You get all excited then realise it's Gingerbread 🤣 I'm sure Domi will make it great 😍 Edit: watching you do the intro.. already worth it 😂😂

GenU

Domi, given the fact that you're a number of episodes ahead of your posts, you must be closing in on the final 5 or so episodes of Season 3. There will come a time soon when you will want to start thinking about how you want to handle Buffy and Angel reactions going forward. Ordinarily, I would recommend a watch order guide but alternating Buffy and Angel episodes might fit you better if you intend to do one Buffy and one Angel episode a week as you mentioned as a possibility before. If so, I recommend you start with the Buffy episode (4x01, 5x01) before the Angel episode. This would maintain any crossover integrity. However, it is entirely up to you. You may want to do something completely different. We're here to help if you need us.

Dave Ford

Some people will get upset about what happens to Buffy and Willow in this, others probably feel bad about Amy. Some will probably feel really bad about the children for at least the first half of the episode. Me? The books - all of Giles books! Burnt then soaked. Pity the poor books!

CeNedra

Yup.. agreed 🤣

CeNedra

They have added a slayalive guide for reactors now, it's on the same thread as the original guide. I am with you though, I prefer the watch order Buffy 4.01 followed by Angel 1.01 etc.. that was good when I watched 20 years ago and, in my opinion, more interesting to watch 🤷‍♀️

Christine

That doesn’t always work because Angel started airing before Buffy at one point and the shows took breaks and premiered at different times after summer and winter breaks. If not using an actual guide, it’s best to at least watch by original air date to avoid messing up any crossovers.

GenU

Actually, if you examine the SlayAlive watch order guide, you will see that alternating Buffy and Angel 1 for 1 preserves crossover integrity, as long as you start with the Buffy episode.

That bit kills me :( And yes, I always assumed those were his books they were burning. How many unique books are gone. It upsets me :'( I mean, other things do too ;)

It's definitely fortunate that you are able to watch each episode in its entirety. I wonder how you would have reacted if you had to stop watching immediately after seeing Willow, Amy and Michael performing their spell. How would you have felt about them if you had to wait a long time for an explanation.

UTU49

Domi, honestly, I don't think you should listen to us. Each one of us has our own preference for watch order. Most people want EITHER alternating between the two OR the Slayalive Guide. I think you should ask Shan, or Liam, or Alex (Torchwood Boy) what their experience was like with their order. You could ask Alley, but she's early in Angel Season 1, so she has far less experience with combining Buffy and Angel than the others. For what it's worth, my observation is that reactors and their viewers find the Slayalive guide a satisfying way of watching the shows. A large percentage of people who don't want the Slayalive guide, are people who only watch one of the series and don't want to have to wait for the series they watch. Don't google it. Don't listen to us. Listen to other reactors. So that's my 5 cents.

UTU49

TLDR. Other reactors are the people who will best be able to tell you the advantages and disadvantages of different watch orders.

Wake up in a coma?!.....

In the UK, Gingerbread is the name of single parent support groups which are set up locally across the country. They've been going for at least 30 years. I only knew because of my job as they're relatively low profile.

"It's not like you can hurt me more than you already have" oh domi, domi, domi :D Not today though ;) Probably lol And I know you've seen the next one so well done on predicting the Joyce kidnap only one episode too soon :) Speaking of which, did you notice the weird camera angle in the library, it's a Giles POV when he's on the stairs and it's a super steep angel down to Buffy. Now, this was not my observation BUT, somebody pointed out that it is maybe foreshadowing the next episode. It's their relative positions with respect to classic Watcher and Slayer roles. However, at the end of the next episode Giles is on his knees looking UP at Buffy. Not my theory but I thought it was neat :) Also, remember when you said 'I preferred when it was Jenny' in Amends, that really reminded me of Cordy's line 'I liked the two little ones better than the one big one' :D On to THIS episode. I really like it. I think ideally and more realistically it would take longer for the parents to go psycho but the demon's influence is really working it's magic here so I'll go with it. There are some great team ups - Cordy and Giles, Oz and Xander kinda making amends a bit. Amy is back...and now she's a rat lol I also just really like episodes that show the dangers of mob mentality and how susceptible people are to doing awful things in certain circumstances. That message never gets old, sadly. I also like that we get to meet Willow's mum and kind of realise why she's no in need of validation and acts the good girl. Poor Willow :( I also really liked the bit where Willow said at least Buffy's mum is interested in her extra curricular activities and Amy reacts with a sad smile, nice detail. I also like the little bits about Giles' criminal past this season. Many reactors think that Halloween and Dark Age don't seem to go together but that's because they address different aspects of Ripper, one is the demon druggy side (Dark Age) and the other is the one that is violent (Halloween) which goes with the delinquent side. So far this season he has hot wired a car, committed a robbery, beaten up a cop and picked a lock (I love Cordy's line btw). Ripper sure knew how to live. I loved your observation about Buffy comforting her mother in her arms as she cried and how the roles were reversed. And then it reminded me that she's done the same for Giles, and given the next episode....ok, maybe I lied about the not hurting you part. But I didn't mention WHY he was crying so maybe I got away with it ;)

A lot of people seem to dislike this episode. I agree it's not one of the best but I don't think it's bad either. The fact that it dares to go to the topic of dead children is good. And the idea of Hansel and Gretel being the bad guys is very cool. The witch hunt idea is also good (granted, not very original) but I agree that its execution is a bit shaky. One of the things I don't like is that suddenly Willow seems to be constantly talking about her mother, only because she shows up later in the episode. And bringing it up in front of Amy, whose mother actually tried to take over her life... That could've been handled more subtly. But yeah, overall I like this episode.

Justafox305

I like this episode. it seems like most people are not fans of it.

UTU49

This is a somewhat unpopular episode, but probably only because there are so many strong episodes. I think there's tons of interesting stuff in this episode. Giles and Cordy are awesome together. I want a spinoff that's just Giles and Cordy trying to solve mysteries, where Cordy is Giles assistant and they both hate the arrangement. I like that idea so much that I'm day dreaming about writing some fan fiction. Rat Amy for President!

CeNedra

Most of them started reacting before the new slayalive guide was written, I think only the latest have used the reactors version of it which is a lot more 'watcher' friendly. Keeps the integrity of the crossovers etc but doesn't use more than 2/3 episodes of one show, splits them up more. I'm pretty sure that's the one Alley is using 🤔

CeNedra

I think when it aired in the UK we didn't have those issues, it was always Friday night 8pm Buffy 9pm Angel.. nostalgia 😍

Phoenix Dawn

I really like this episode. Also, having been a pre-teen who enjoyed Buffy, DnD, and goth/occulty things in the 90s and experienced the Satanic panic, this episode is kind of special.

GenU

The Adventures of Bunny Summers!

UTU49

Hey, does everyone know how the name "Buffy Summers" originated? Joss just called her "Suffers Bummers" in his original script because he felt that was a good description of her. He then needed to come up with an actual name, so he just moved some letters around and created the name "Buffy Summers". Fun "fact".

Domi E

Aw no I’m sorry hahaha. Hope you somewhat enjoy it anyways!!!

Domi E

I’ll def look into it!! Thanks guys!!!

Domi E

Aw man, that really is a bummer!!

Domi E

Oh my god I would have died!

Domi E

Oh I didn’t know that! That’s so interesting!

Domi E

Great points RJ! And thank you!!

Domi E

Yeah that’s true haha. They set it up a bit too late!

Domi E

Oh my god I love this idea way too much!! And Rat Amy has my vote!

Domi E

I really liked it too!!

Ron Fehr

Would you consider it a spoiler if I mentioned someone from the Buffy movie in a text? I have a small piece of trivia that I am tempted to mention.

CeNedra

Haha it's not your fault, I'm just not the biggest fan of season 3 😏 I'm in the minority though 🤣 I usually am! There are 4 or 5 really great episodes, 2 of which are in my top ten but I could leave the rest 😐 sorry 😁😘

Steve Quast

This episode made my smoke alarm go off.

Steve Quast

The opening vamp looks so butt-hurt when Joyce is rooting for Buffy to kill it.

Steve Quast

Buffy: Whle you're at it can you find a loophole for that slayers don't kill people rule? Me: And if you find that loophole, do you mind giving me a ring? There's a few people that I.....well, never mind. Not important...

Steve Quast

Drinking game: Take a drink every time Domi says WHAT?!?

Steve Quast

I remember the male witch (Michael) as Pinski from "Salute Your Shorts."

Steve Quast

I could watch a whole episode of Giles getting angry in Watchers' chatrooms lol.

Stewart Denew

"It's not like they can hurt me any more than they have" good thing the series is already made, you *know* the writers would be "challenge accepted!"

Domi E

I plan on watching the Buffy movie soon, so maybe after I watch it?? :)

Domi E

haha. so much foreshadowing for what’s to come too!!!

Jordan Haddow

Loved your reaction, especially the part when we saw the witches casting the protection spell for Buffy. You got so shocked when you saw Amy there, then I think you may have had a ministroke after seeing Willow there. Good times.

Domi E

Thank you hahaha. I really did!

Antonio

@CeNedra And Scrubs at 10pm! Good times...(although I think it was Thursdays when these three were on back-to-back-to-back)

Ryan Wilson

Domi doesn't have to ask anyone. All she has to do is google, "how do I watch Buffy and Angel together?" and it will give her a watch pattern.

UTU49

I hope you noticed the quotes around the word "fact". ;)

Ariel17

I enjoy this episode mostly for the hilarious one-liners, like: 1) Buffy: My mom thinks it’s fruitless. Nooo fruit for Buffy. 2) Cordy: I swear, one day you’re gonna wake up in a coma. Giles: Wake up in a— oh never mind. **Btw, I find this to be kinda foreshadowy and bittersweet if you’ve watched Angel season 5....** 3) Buffy: Did I get it? DID I GET IT?! 4) Willow: it’s a doodle. I do doodle. You too. You do doodle too. **I freaking love Alysons delivery of these tongue twistery lines**
