Buffy and Angel’s melodrama last episode was for humor. The show was making fun of them, of itself. If I had to pick an episode for a rewatch reaction, it would be “The Zeppo”, assuming you’d get the joke of half the episode this time. I don’t think Faith went back *just* to get rid of the body. All those emotions you saw on her face were real. She is dealing with the guilt, until she isn’t. Your anticipation of Wes’s arrival now for many, many episodes all paid off in your reaction to when he finally did show up. Looking forward to seeing you react to his very slow change into the “Marlboro Man”.

Whisper_dvm

Wessss!!! Cant wait to see your reaction to him since he’s sooo different than end of Angel Wes

Ron Fehr

You must be extremely happy. I'll watch it as soon as I can.

Steve Quast

Yes. Haven't watched yet, but our Wesley has finally arrived. It must be so interesting seeing what he's like here after witnessing what a badass he becomes in Angel. You can probably tell already that he has quite a character arc. I love this Wes, though. I love nambi pambi, comical Wes, and I love the darker Wes of the later seasons of Angel. For most of us, this was our introduction to the character, but for you, this is kind of like his origin story lol. Anyway, onto the episode....

Ron Fehr

I haven't watched all of the episode yet, but I loved your reaction upon seeing Wes. You had a wide-mouthed grin for quite a while. Also, I loved Faith's response. "New watcher?" "New watcher." "Screw that."

Steve Quast

Yep. Season 2 changed with "Surprise" and "Innocense" (13 and 14) and season 3 changed with this episode and the next (14 and 15).

Steve Quast

God I love the mayor, lol.

Raven Dark

Hee hee! Me too. He's such a delightful, quirky mix of comedy, seriousness, and when he needs to be, menace.

Steve Quast

Okay, I was expecting a reaction, but the look on your face when they finally show Wes is just adorable.

Steve Quast

Wes: "Who are you?" C'mon Wes, don't you recognize your future co-star? That hurts a little....

Steve Quast

Every reactor has the same facial expression when they first see Balthazar lol.

Steve Quast

Gotta say, as someone who has a 2-liter instead of a six pack, I quite like Joyce's "mom logic."

Shaun Houghton

Come back when your 2 Litre has become a Keg.

Shaun Houghton

Balthazar Vs Jabba, might be childish, but wanna see it.

Steve Quast

18 million, 500 thousand, 173 episodes since Darla died (or something like that).

Steve Quast

Haha, I've made the comparison between Balthazar and Jabba before. He's like Jabba with some Jedi powers.

Steve Quast

I agree. We should call Spike back. In fact, he should have never left. I feel personally attacked that he abandoned us.

zerofk

"New watcher?" "New watcher." "Screw that." *walks out* That still makes me laugh every time. Your reaction to Wesley's introduction was great. The way I see it, Faith has felt like the little sister or apprentice to the more experienced Buffy, and she hated it. So she's been looking for a way to feel like Buffy's equal or even teacher. In this episode Buffy was starting to respond to that, copying Faith's behaviour. And Faith, feeling that it was starting to work, turned it up to eleven. This made her feel even more powerful and so she began to spiral. Faith washing her clothes in the sink is a reference to MacBeth: "Out, damned spot!" signifying her remorse and guilt. But she cannot admit to those feelings out loud. Not to Buffy, and not to herself. Instead, she runs from the problem and pretends it doesn't exist - just like she ran from Kakistos in Faith, Hope, and Trick.

I know you preface that you have some spoilers for the end of Angel, but that mug in and of itself is a major spoiler! What do you think of Wes, I remember watching at this point and thought his entire purpose was to make Giles look better by comparison.

UTU49

I like calling him "the Soup Demon". In this viewing I too was thinking about Jabba. Also... I have always wanted to cosplay as Balthazar.

Domi E

I know! It’s why I mentioned the mug in the beginning. Though by now everyone knows I’ve seen Angel so watching my videos is a risk if you haven’t finished it yet. I cropped the mug off during my Youtube version of this ep but I needed my coffee during the extended haha. And ah that’s actually very true. I feel like in some ways he’s better (apparently with research) and some ways worse, so I’m curious to see how these characters are gonna develop!

Domi E

He really is so different than I remembered him!!!

Domi E

I really do love it! Thankfully I don’t remember any specifics about his character arc or anything but I do remember him having a completely different vibe so this is really fun!

Domi E

I had been waiting for so freaking long!!

Domi E

I mean he is one creepy dude!

Domi E

Well I always love hearing that!

Domi E

DARLAAAAAA COME BACK TO MEEEEEEEE

Domi E

Completely agree Steve!

UTU49

This is not the Wes you know, obviously. He is going to change A LOT between now and Season 3 of Angel, obviously.

Domi E

Oh great point! I hadn’t gotten the MacBeth reference.. OOPS!

Domi E

I feel like I don’t really remember S3 Wesley at all so I must say I’m really excited!!

UTU49

I love these explosive episodes, where it's just nonstop shit hitting fans. Tons of shit, many fans. The foursome of Faith, Buffy, Giles, and Wes, is a complex combination of people whose ability to work together is a gigantic question mark. What a frickin mess.

The Suburban Big Man

As someone who has a keg, I could not agree more with you, Shaun.

Justafox305

Your face when you saw Buffy and Faith in the club :-0

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

SO MUCH going on in this episode, I always forget. Loved your reaction to Wes, I've been waiting for that for a looooong time. It is clear that the poor boy couldn't handle Buffy, or Faith, or Giles, never mind all three of them lol I can't remember my initial reaction to Wesley (probably not good lol) but I do rather love this tit of a man now :D Even his suits are too big for him, bless :) And, damn Faith :/ For me Buffy (and Faith tbh) are mirroring Giles' backstory from Dark Age and Band Candy in this episode (even if you don't take Band Candy as literal teenage Giles I'm more talking about his actions in that episode). They are both rebelling against the Council, Buffy runs out of school, they smash up a shop, steal stuff, get held at gun point, Faith even does the sassy stuff to the cops that Giles was doing in Band Candy, and then they promptly assault the police and eventually somebody ends up dead. We know that this was Giles' wake up call, it remains to be seen how Faith will react. I also feel that although Wesley's arrival forces Buffy and Giles in to the We Hate Wesley Club the fact that Buffy went off the rails is partly in response to what Giles did in Helpless. However, her reasons are complicated. I think almost drowning was part of it, this episode is rather like When She Was Bad, also she hates the Council with a passion and Wesley represents them. But I tend to think that had she not lost faith in Giles so recently she perhaps wouldn't have done it because I HOPE she has more respect for him than that.

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

And possibly my favourite exchange is the whole 'a good slayer is a cautious slayer', 'is he evil?', 'not in the strictest sense' scene :D Oh and domi, those happy days when you thought the Mayor had good intentions lol Did you read the list of things he had to do that day? It's worth it :)

CeNedra

Note to self.. do not read comments b4 watching reaction due to reaction spoilers 😁🤣🤣🤣

Steve Quast

UTU49, okay, well now I have an image in my mind of Balthazar going, "Unacceptable! No soup for you!"

Superplin

I’m getting a message that the number of allowed playbacks has been exceeded, so it won’t let me watch. 🥺

Domi E

Hii! Have you tried logging in with your email account? Usually it says that when you’re not logged in. If it still has problems I can try reuploading! Urgh google docs can be annoying sometimes

Superplin

I'm always logged in. I'm getting the same response on all devices... this is the first time this has ever happened to me.

Superplin

You are the best.

Bud Haven

Loved the Faith/Buffy ship scenes.

HuntingSwan

Domi how can you not ship Fuffy!!! :D

FernWithy

I liked how subtle they were that Wes does have skills as a Watcher, even while Buffy and Giles dismiss him (mostly because his presence is a reminder that the Council pulled the test in "Helpless" and really screwed things up for them, rather than because of Wes himself). He's so young and inexperienced, and he's trying so hard to play the part, but he's very scared. And yet, he's also much better read on Sunnydale history than Giles is and is able to produce from memory what would take a five minute montage of research with the others. When you said that Faith was about to make a big mistake, I think all of us were like, "Yeah, Domi... that's pretty much the best prediction ever."

zerofk

Hard, isn't it :-)

UTU49

Oh yeah. If it's been a while since you saw Angel, then I guess your clearest memories of Wes would be from Season 5.

UTU49

What a great blend of pop culture. Now I'm thinking of Giles saying to Balthazar, "Unacceptable? You keep on using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

UTU49

NO DARLA FOR YOU!

UTU49

When I find myself thinking about "reaction spoilers", I laugh at myself. And then I just enjoy the reaction videos, spoiled or not.

Domi E

It hasn't even been that long but my brain just doesn't retain info hahaha

Domi E

YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH CAUSE I'M GETTING MY DARLA

Domi E

So true, but its quite a brilliant messs!!!

Domi E

That's so true RJ! Great comparisons!

Domi E

That's so funny! And URGH, I did. Psycho alert!!

Domi E

Haha. Reaction spoilers really are a funny concept!

Domi E

YUP YUP YUP. Me too!!

Domi E

Why would you think I don't? FUFFY IS KINDA..... Too great!!!

Domi E

Haha, I must say for once I wish I wasn't right!! And yeah exactly, he's clearly got something to bring to the table and I'm excited to find out more!

CeNedra

Oh yeah, I do that too 🤣 it's mainly when a reactor doesn't like an episode I wish I wasn't spoiled, don t know why 🤔

CeNedra

I know and I didn't realise it was a thing until I got spoiled 🤣🤣

Ron Fehr

I wonder if my definition of 'girlfriend' in this instance varies from others. I look at Buffy and Faith as just being female friends, whereas some people use the term differently.

UTU49

:) Well you probably binged it, right? That would decrease how much you remember. I wonder if a person's memory after binging is similar to the memory of a person who saw it much longer ago? Hmm. Intriguing...

UTU49

NO DARLA FOR YOU! (For now.)

Steve Quast

The Princess Bride should be blended with everything. It always makes everything better.

UTU49

Should we start a religion? I'm up for it.

UTU49

CeNedra. It really is more fun to watch someone go through the process of souring on an episode (or being won over), without knowing in advance that it happens. Sooo... reaction spoilers are a real thing... And we are weird. More than one thing can be true at the same time.

Steve Quast

Wewigion....sa-weet wewigion.....that dweam....wittin a dweeeeam!

Jonathan Bruser

Faith has always been a favorite character of mine, and a lot of her character and history is implied rather than outright said explicitly. She seems to be alone, with no family or support system, she mentioned a dead mother in 3x03, and she lives by herself in a very 'Spartan' motel room. Also in 3x03, she was gobbling up food with her hands at dinner at the Summers residence, and I wonder if she' hasn't had the luxury of regular meals for a part of her life. Despite all of that, I don't believe her when she says she doesn't care about having killed a man. She went back to the body, and she didn't immediately make to weight and dump it. She just stared at it, moved to touch it, as if she wasn't sure if she should believe what she just did. The backstory that I am inferring from the little hints we have indicate someone who might have been on her own, maybe not able to trust the authorities to do the right thing by her. She seems more street savvy, maybe because she had to grow up on the streets? I don't know for sure, but her reaction of dumping the body seems in line with that sort of background. That being said, when she lies and says she doesn't care about killing the man (my opinion only), I think she's trying to fool herself more than anyone else so that she doesn't have to feel the guilt that inevitably comes with ending a life. Just my opinion, but for all that Faith is a hot mess, she's generally tried to do the right thing, but people like Gwendolyn Post have taught - through their betrayals - that Faith can only count on herself. I love Faith, and I hate that she's had to suffer so much, even if a lot of that suffering is my imagination of what could have happened before she joined the show. That being said, she's a very complicated character that inspires a lot of mixed feelings. So if you don't feel the same way that I do, Domi, then I would totally understand. I just hope that you can find a sliver of doubt in your heart regarding that 'I don't care' moment. I think Faith deserves better than what I feel she's doing to herself.

Hannah Weber

I never noticed your mug there before!! Love it
