You just been SWERVED. Omg that line. "Second best." Gives me chills. When you rewatch the episode, and I think you did take notice of this, you can see Angel drop the act for a split second after the mayor's hand heals.

Steven

Love this episode. David really sold the faux reversion to Angelus and back.

Faith is a character that you cannot (and *should* not) fully form your opinion on until after you've seen everything. Because IMHO hers is one of the best character arcs that television has ever managed. :-)

Ron Fehr

I loved your reaction when you realized that Buffy and Angel were 'playing' Faith. You were hoping that was the case, and your look was priceless when you saw saw that your hunch was right.

Ron Fehr

Hearing some of your comments recently, I wonder if it even occurred to you that a Slayer could use her powers for evil. True, they are given superhuman strength, but without proper guidance, who knows what could happen.

I do love this episode. It hurts to watch Buffy suffer, and it hurts to watch Faith go down a bad path, but we've finally gotten everybody on the same page for the inevitable climax. The Mayor has an Evil Plan, and Faith is his right-hand woman. Something I find interesting and very strange is the relationship between Faith and the Mayor. At the start, he practically threatens to kill her if she can't get the job done. And yet, for whatever reason, when she does fail in the end, he figures, 'No big deal,' and he goes out of his way to reassure her to make her feel like she matters and that she's worth something. And let's not overlook that she was living out of a crappy motel room before the Mayor upgraded her. You could argue that she's a bought woman, both with a better apartment and through emotional manipulation, but as you said, if the good guys treat her like crap, and the bad guy treats her really well, then from her POV, it makes sense to side with the guy who has her back. Also, who doesn't love miniature golf, right? One last point that fuels my shipper heart. When Buffy is confiding in Willow that she saw Angel kissing Faith, or rather vice versa, Buffy tries to reassure herself that it could never happen. However, if I was feeling insecure about Angel kissing someone else, I would say, "Angel would never do that." But that's not what Buffy says. She says, "FAITH would never do that." You did say that Faith and Buffy both need therapy, Domi. I'm thinking couples' therapy. What do you say to that? (Also, the Take That Kiss on the forehead just as Faith flees... It was originally scripted to be on the lips.) Thank you as always for sharing your reactions. Looking forward to more!

"I introduced him to his wife " 🤪🤪🤪

Actually, Buffy said "Psych", not Sike. As in "Psych-out" or "Psyche-out". It's a slang derivative of Psychology. They were putting one over on Faith.

The thing with Angel's "moment of true happiness" is interesting - in Innocence in season 2 Jenny's uncle explained; “Angel was meant to suffer. Not to live as human. One moment of true happiness, of contentment, one moment where the soul that we restored no longer plagues his thoughts, and that soul is taken from him." The curse doesnt mention sex at all & that it happened after Angel & Buffy had sex is far more about the emotional connection they had than the sex itself, but the only in-universe people who knew the actual details of the curse were killed by Angelus so anyone with any knowledge of the situation, including Angel & Buffy themselves, just assume that sex is the thing that'll make Angel lose his soul again. Although Faith killed the deputy mayor, that was a heat-of-the-moment genuine accident, while in this one she outright commited murder for the first time, which shook her up - sure, he was a demon & yeah he was pretty shifty, but he wasn't at all hostile & was basically just a guy... combine that with the other guy that knew Giles & owed him a favour (it's entirely possible that he was capable of removing Angel's soul, but was at least somewhat aware of the circumstances & gave his acquaintance a heads-up) & it's really adding to the worldbuilding that not all demons & supernatural things are inherently hostile, which sets up potential things for later including in Angel's spin-off series. Love the mayor as a villain :) The miniature golf line was apparantly an improv on the Harry Groener's part & the reaction was actually Eliza Dushku's entirely honest bemusal & amusement in response.

zerofk

Hi Tara! (did I hear that name correctly? Edit: sorry, Sarah! Blame my bad ears.) I'd love Veronica Mars reactions. Harry Groener is doing such a great job as the mayor. He's so positive and nice, but evil. Aww man I thought we had cool Angelus back but it was just boring Angel pretending to be cool. Humbug. Interesting tidbit, when Xander tells the gang about Angelus he says "Angel's back." Not "Angelus is back." To him, there is no difference between the two.

I remember when I first watched this episode when it aired, we had no idea what was coming and this felt so real. There were rumors Angel was getting his own show, but nothing confirmed (tv was different back then). So that twist was just wild. I'm looking forward to see what you think as things play out.

UTU49

"(tv was different back then)" Partly because the whole world was different back then. That was the very early days of this newfangled "information superhighway" dingus that's all the rage with the kids these days. I find it easy to forget that people in their 20's never knew a time when you couldn't just look up anything you wanted any time you wanted on the internet.

HuntingSwan

Great reaction! It's okay if you hate Faith, I think the audience is supposed to, even though I never did. I feel like I aspire to be like Buffy but I identify more with Faith.

UTU49

Domi, here are some things to watch for while you're editing. I'll make this vague for you, so that you can discover some of the details yourself. Just watch for any signs that any of the characters know more than they at first appeared to know. The most obvious example is that Buffy knew that Angel had not really lost his soul again. This episode is great on rewatch, because there are details you can catch, that you could not have seen during your first watch. Similarly, on rewatch, you might feel that Angel didn't actually play Angelus perfectly. It was easily good enough to fool Faith and the audience, but on rewatch I feel that I can see signs that he had NOT really lost his soul. 3x16 and 3x17 is a dynamite combination. 3x16 is a contained, hilarious examination of Willow's character... and in 3x17 everything goes to hell. I always enjoy these explosive episodes, where it can be said that "after this, things will never be the same." A note on the word "earshot". As English is not your first language, the word "earshot" might not be familiar to you. It means "range of hearing". For example: "You better not say anything negative about the boss' son within earshot of the boss." It's totally fun to watch you be stunned by some of these episodes.

UTU49

I intended my post below to be a reply to you, but I accidentally didn't post it as a reply to you.

madfem

Posting this on Lesbian Visibility Day was certainly a good choice ;) sending love your way <3

Raven Dark

I heard "Sarah," but maybe I'm wrong.

Domi E

Oh damn, I gotta go and pay attention to that!!

Domi E

100%!! He did too good!

Domi E

I’m really excited!!

Domi E

I do love being right!! Haha

Domi E

I 100% would have never thought of that if it weren’t for this storyline with Faith!

Domi E

NOOO WAY THAT IT WAS MEANT TO BE ON THE LIPS!!! I can’t believe it!! But omg totally gotta send them to couples therapy hahahaha

Domi E

That was too great!!

Domi E

Oh very interesting I never thought of it that way! And omg love that the mini golf is improv!!

Domi E

Yup it’s Sarah!! But you’re not the only one who got it mixed up, so woops that’s on me for pronouncing it so badly. And ohhhh Xander....

Domi E

It really was an incredible twist!!!

Domi E

Thank you!! And honestly I can be pissed at her but I don’t think I’d ever be able to hate her.

Domi E

Oooh, thank you!! Earshot makes more sense now, I think I’ve heard that before! And ahhh now you’re making me so curious to rewatch!

Domi E

The universe knows Buffy and Faith are meant to be 😁Sending love to you too!!

Steve Quast

Hi enemies! Welcome back! Today we are going to be watching Friends! Wait....I got that wrong, didn't I?

Steve Quast

"Something bad is going to happen." *Faith shows up* Remarkable. Simply remarkable.

Steve Quast

That twist gets them every time. I love this episode, in part, because it's great seeing Angelus again, even though it's not really him. We get to see David go back and forth between his good and evil roles in one episode and it's glorious. At the same time, if they'd had Angel lose his soul again for real, it would have been too repitive, so I'm glad they didn't go that route.

Steve Quast

The fact that you haven't seen all of Angel means you don't really know whether Cordy and Wesley had a thing. Guess you'll have to wait and see.

Ron Fehr

I heard Sarah.

Ron Fehr

I wouldn't have known that English is not your first language, Domi. I don't detect any kind of accent. I do recall you saying that you were of Ukeranian(?) heritage, but I had no idea that was your first language.

UTU49

I didn't notice her accent until she mentioned something about languages. I think she mentioned that her first language was Portuguese, and then suddenly I could hear a mild accent.

CeNedra

And the main reason I dislike a lot of season 3 😭🤣 That and the 15ish episodes that are all exactly the same 🙄 weirdly those all have Faith in them too 🤣

CeNedra

Now don't I feel old 👵

UTU49

CeNedra. I hear ya. Before the internet, knowledge was actually a valuable commodity. A friend might have asked me, "Dude, what's the name of that actor from Terminator 2?" and it would be helpful for me to be able to answer. Now anyone anywhere can look up anything. It's an incredible convenience, but I also think it warps the world a little bit. ("Also how many times do I have to tell you young whippersnappers to stay the hell off my lawn?!")

Domi E

From Brazil actually :)

Domi E

Nope, pretty sure you got that right!

There are so many great things in this episode, like somebody said, it's good on rewatch, like the way Giles says ' be careful' when Buffy leaves. After you've seen it you realise that he knows she's off to pull the trick on Faith, which is seriously dangerous. :/ How exactly they found out is a bit of a mystery, which slightly bugs me. Yes, maybe Angel becomes suspicious of Faith but that doesn't mean he knows the plan to lose his soul. Yes, Buffy notices that Faith knew where the light switch was in that poor demon's apartment, but again, no clue as to the plan. THEN the Giles says to the dark demon guy that he is grateful he came to him, which suggests that after the mayor asked him to take Angel's soul he immediately went to Giles. Which is odd when you think about it UNLESS he's a lot more aware of what happened the last year than a superficial kinda friendship with Giles. Do the sort of OK demons keep tabs on the Slayer(s) out of interest. Did this one keep tabs on Giles wanting to pay back his debt. Basically, HOW does dark demon guy know Angel has anything to do with the slayer and Giles. I basically have no clue but it's interesting to speculate. I remember the first time watching I had a very similar reaction 'No! We are NOT going there again!!!!!!!!' Such a relief!

Loves Bitca

The demon/shaman guy knows Giles and owes him a favor. He knows Giles as a white hat that operates in Sunnydale. The mayor wanting him to do something, a spell like this is obviously some big deal. Even if he doesn't know about Angel and his connection to Giles. But honestly the one and only vampire with a soul is a pretty big deal, so he probably knows of him, and general knowledge of his activities, like working with the Slayer and Giles. Even if he doesn't, a spell on a plan from the Mayor, a power player on the side of evil, wants to take away the soul of Angel, known to be a good guy in sunnydale, and the big vampire with a soul fighting for good. Makes sense he'd think that's something that concerns someone he knows who is a pretty big player in the white hat crowd in Sunnydale.
