Buffy The Vampire Slayer 3x22 - Graduation Day (Part 2) .mp4

Anya wasn’t at graduation because, as she told Xander, “The only thing any sane person can do is run”. They had two scenes in part one establishing that Anya was out of there. As you qualify your one complaint against the episode by saying that you thought it was great but… I will qualify this disagreement, which is not a complaint. As I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your reactions, I especially enjoyed these, part one and two of Graduation Day. But, in answer to the underwhelming battle with the Mayor, someone said about “Prophecy Girl”, when the Master dies, “Was that it?” and that it was too easy. And I’m thinking, Buffy died and all those people died in the rec room and everything else that happened in the episode, in the season…. What else is needed? I feel that even more strongly about this ending to season three. The whole saving Angel thing was part of the battle against the Mayor (that’s why Faith poisoned him, to divert Buffy). Faith’s and Buffy’s incredible fight scene: Faith is put in a coma. Buffy is put in the hospital. These are part of the battle against the Ascension. The high school is blown up – Larry and Harmony and Snyder and another unknown person or three die. Even the fact that Willow and Oz get together (because Oz panics). Anya flees. Angel leaves. There are many more things that can be said along this line. So I can only assume that it’s about either the pyrotechnics or the time spent on the battle. On the former, all I can say is that it isn’t an action movie (thank God – it is a much richer narrative). On the latter: if too much time had been spent on the battle, it would have interfered with the goose bumps we get when the whole class (set up so wonderfully in “The Prom”) joins in the battle, and the revelation of Buffy’s secret plan and Buffy’s taunting the Mayor with Faith’s blood, etc. The episode(s) were expertly distilled for dramatic impact. You said that there was more emphasis on the plan than the fighting. Exactly. That was good storytelling. Finally, the point was, as Oz says at the end, “Guys. Take a moment to deal with this. We survived… not the battle. High school.” The episode was about graduation.

All I get is an error - can't open it. But I can download it so Yay!

Domi E

Aw damn it, it was working earlier idk what happened. Sorry! I’m on it. I’ll change the link as soon as I fix it!

Richard Ashton

Downloaded all 3 Gb of it. Watching in PowerDVD. Very happy.

Ron Fehr

The same thing happened here, so I'm downloading it too.

Steven

Think too many are downloading so Drive Quota exceeded. I'll try later or tomorrow.

Justafox305

It’s not letting me view it

Domi E

I’m trying to fix it, sorry! It seems to only be working if you download it. New link should be up shortly, it just needs to finish processing!

Domi E

Woops, sorry! Trying to have it fixed ASAP!!

Domi E

Yay. I’m so glad!!

Steve Quast

Yeah. Angel needs to to a better job of explaining himself.

Steve Quast

The Mayor: *lays out plan about how he needs the vamps to trap a bunch of high school kids so he can feed on them when he turns into a demon* Also the Mayor: Oh and boys....let's watch the swearing.

Raven Dark

Hee! I love the mayor so much.

Steve Quast

"Congratulations to the class of 1999. You all proved more or less adequate." The single nicest thing Snider has ever said.

Steve Quast

Well that's two out of two principals eaten....

Richard Ashton

I understand that the good folk of Torrance (where Buffy was filmed) were less than amused at the enormous explosion in the small hours. They banned them from coming back.

Steve Quast

Sometimes that happens when a file is first uploaded. I just downloaded the file.

Steve Quast

One of the best villains of the show, to be sure.

Steve Quast

I love this season finale. Love the epic battle at the end. I'd say it's better than the season 1 finale, but the season 2 finale is still the best in my opinion, at least of those we've seen so far.

Justafox305

I ran out of room on my laptop to download. I’m going to finish watching this movie I have saved on there, then delete it and then download domis reaction

zerofk

I'll probably get a lot of comments about this but... I really don't like the Bangel stuff in this. Sheesh guys you're broken up, so break up already. Then again I never like the Bangel stuff, so what else is new I guess. And Domi, are you finally convinced the mayor actually cares about Faith?

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

Excellent reaction :D I agree that, for me, this finale doesn't have the impact that Becoming 2 had but I still love it, particularly the students revealing their weapons which gave me goosebumps moments before you said the same :) I can hardly watch the Angel drinks Buffy scene (I took my earphones out) because of the slurping noises :((( I mean, it's SUPPOSED to be like they're having sex and all I can think is ewwwwwwwww!! I'm not really surprised the others are hard on him because he doesn't explain AT ALL. I mean, I think that's probably the right thing to do tbh, otherwise he's kinda throwing Buffy under the bus. Because, tbh, it was foolhardy, she didn't know if she'd survive and they needed her a lot more than they needed Angel. I'm not sure that Giles would have been particularly pleased it was her plan either so maybe best to let him think it was Angel's, they don't exactly have the best relationship anyway :/ Same with Xander but it did shock Willow :( I think it's kinda poetic that Giles gets to blow up the school but I feel it's rather sad. There are so many memories there (some bad, sure, but some wonderful :'( ), same for all of them really. I do love the fact he found her diploma <3 I love that you'd given up hope that Faith could help and then she does!! It IS ambiguous but I've always read it that way. And yes, you can absolutely ship them :D The Mayor saying that there are people who should be here but aren't :'((((((((((((((( you KNOW who I'm thinking about, right ;) (I mean, I KNOW the mayor was talking about Faith but...) There are so many parallels between Giles and the Mayor and I realised another one watching this. Imagine this scenario the other way around, somebody has put Buffy in a probably deadly coma and then the enemy taunts him about it. Imagine!!!!!!!!!! He'd not turn into a demon, he'd turn into Ripper lol And Wesley and Cordelia - that has to be the most awkward kiss in the history of kisses lolol RIP Mayor, you were so great And poor Buffy - Angel...why?!?!?! Don't do the cool guy walk away :(((((((

Ron Fehr

One thing that amused me was how Snyder was afraid of the mayor in human form, but told him off after he became a demon.

UTU49

Hooray! It's Domi's graduation day!

UTU49

I have 348 Gb free. I'm doin' it.

Tim Pierce

Willow : "He's delirious, he thinks I'm Buffy." Oz: "You too, huh?" That joke seems to go over everyone's head. I can imagine Angel caressing Oz's face.

Domi E

I’m so sorry! I always check to make sure it’s processed and it was all good but for some reason it un-processed. New link should work though!!

Domi E

Well remind me to never apply for a position there 😝

Domi E

OMG NO WAY LOL. Also whaaaat they filmed in Torrance really?!

Domi E

It really was great!!

Domi E

LOL! That’s their whole relationship, they’re always broken up/on a break anyways 🤪It’s what makes them special. And yup,,, finally so!

Domi E

Yup yup yup. Agreed!

Domi E

Yay!! Should I invite my fam?

Domi E

HAHA this is too great. I honestly hadn’t realized it 😂😂😂😂

Justafox305

No problem. About to watch right now. :)

Richard Ashton

This is from IMDB, which you shouldn't look at as there are spoilers galore. According to Marti Noxon in a DVD commentary, the explosion scene was filmed at 5 a.m. in Torrance, California, where the outdoor scenes had been filmed for the previous three years. The explosion was so huge it woke up many of the residents, broke windows and set off car alarms. As a result, the town refused to allow Buffy to film there again.

Veronika

I totally understand your feeling of relief that no main character died compared to season 2 finale, but we actually got 2 main character's "deaths"...Angel and Cordelia are leaving for Angel so technically they did not die but we still lost 2 main characters. Maybe that is why killing Oz like you predicted would be too much and they could not afford to lose anyone else...anyway amazing reaction as always! I can not wait for the premiere of Angel and season 4 of Buffy! <3 PS: I really hope we will see you react to season 3-5 of Angel because I would love to see your reaction to it with your new knowledge of all the backstories you now know from seeing Buffy and it is really a different experience when you will be watching both shows simultaneously.

Stewart Denew

A great finale - not just of the season but also the first phase, since that's high school out of the way too. Am i the first in this comment section to use the phrase "going out with a bang"? :) Mayor Wilkins as a villain was fantastically multidimensional & theres a lot of parallels with David Xanatos from Gargoyles, in that while he has his main plan & won't let anything get in the way of it, he also has no reason not to be a perfectly pleasant & charming individual who genuinely cares about people otherwise - and that care for Faith & sheer fury at what happened to her is strong enough to make him very nearly throw away a century of preparation & what ultimately defeats him. Apparantly Snyder getting eaten at the end was a specific request of Armin Shimerman just for the funnies & a similar thing applied for Wesley getting knocked out in the first few seconds of the big fight. Cordy taking out a vampire as smoothly as any Buffy had managed was very cool as well as a likely shout-out to the fact Charisma had also initially auditioned to play as Buffy.

UTU49

Haha. The new link worked immediately... and about 7 seconds later, the download finished.

UTU49

I want to see it! D: It would be an entertainingly unfamiliar thing to see.

Jonathan Bruser

Two things I want to say: first of all, you are far from alone in shipping Buffy and Faith. They are among the most popular ships in a wide realm of Buffy fanfiction, and I do love the idea of the two of them being a couple! Second, I find it interesting how the Mayor reacts to two very difficult things (from his perspective), and his reactions show how he prioritizes things... Mayor sees Faith put into a coma by Buffy: "I'm going to bring pain to you and your whore, Angel. Yes, you've made me mad enough to swear by hurting my Faith!" Mayor sees the explosives around him, signaling his imminent death: "Well, gosh!" Unlike the Master, Angelus, or even Spike and Drusilla, the Mayor was capable of actual love, not just obsession like Spike had for Dru (in my opinion). He was a very human character, and I'm sure as heck gonna miss him. ~_^

UTU49

Notes on watching Buffy 3x22, with Her Domi-ness. Shipping Buffy/Faith is extremely common in the Buffy fandom. When it comes to Buffy seasons (and finales in particular), it’s just like what Forrest Gump says about chocolates. “You never know what you’re gonna get.” Season 2 is a heart-breaking down ending. Season 3 is a sunny giant battle (not literally). Star Wars Spoilers for people who have seen Buffy (and vice versa)... in rot13. Gur svefg 3 frnfbaf cnenyyry gur bevtvany Fgne Jnef gevybtl. Frnfba 1 vagebqhprf gur punenpgref ohg qbrf abg npuvrir n ybg zber guna gung. Fvzvyne gb gur bevtvany Fgne Jnef 1977 (NXN “N Arj Ubcr”). I guess I rank Season 3 a little higher, because it’s so funny and action-packed and consistent. Season 2, on the other hand, packs a much bigger emotional wallop. Season 2 and 3 are among the Buffy seasons that I can watch over and over again. Fun fun fun fun fun! About 3x22 not being as emotionally impactful as 2x22. I just realized that, for me, the emotional high points of Season 3 are Eps 20 and 21. As for deaths, we didn’t lose anyone super important, nor in a heart-breaking fashion. We did lose The Mayor and Snyder. We also may have lost Larry, Harmony, and Faith. To sum up my view on Season 3. The core of Season 3 for me is Faith and the Mayor and their relationship. I love the moment when The Mayor really yells, “FIND THEM!” and then repeats to himself quietly, “She’ll be alright. She’ll be alright. She’ll be alright.”. At this point everyone realizes how much he cares about Faith. Because of that scene, when you rewatch Season 3, the Mayor’s interaction with Faith might come across as more sincere. Faith and the Mayor are both among my all-time favorite villains. After Season 2, the villains once again get to have multidimensional relationships. (Edited to express possibilities rather than certainties.) Also a note about Buffy 4 and Angel 1. Some members of the fandom feel that both seasons have their ups and downs, so it’s possible that there will be a couple more episodes that you find under-whelming than there were in Buffy 3. IMO, all the episodes in B4/A1 are well worth watching, because even when the main plot of an episode isn’t as good as usual, there’s always something else really cool or interesting to keep you entertained and engaged with the characters. You are now about half a season behind Alley. I think you can catch up to her and pass her. I believe in you. ;)

UTU49

I love the line: "This is a time of celebration, so sit still, and be quiet."

UTU49

What have we learned from Buffy thus far? Principals are delicious. Too soon?

madfem

there are so many things to point out in this ep damn but honestly i'm lazy and some of them are spoilers ofc. i guess i'll just talk about one of my favorite details : when Angel brings Buffy to the hospital, the doctor asks him "have you two been doing drugs?" and Angel answers "she's clean" because HE is actually not; he just drank human blood. i think i already pointed out the alcoholic metaphor going on with Angel back in Amends. the impulse to drink is always there...

Claire Eyles

The thing with Faith and the Mayor, which I personally love from a character and storytelling point of view, is that just as Faith represents Buffy's shadow self, the relationship between Faith and the Mayor represents the shadow self of Buffy and Giles relationship. It's an inversion, of sorts, of Giles role as a father figure to Buffy. Angel drinking from Buffy as well was supposed to be a sexual metaphor, complete with orgasmic imagery, so her moaning and grabbing onto things wasn't meant to be Buffy in pain. There's a rather long tradition in modern Vampire stories, starting from the 19th century, of a Vampires bite being a stand in metaphor for penetration of another kind.

Bri

Snyder's lines in this ep are amazing.

Bri

Oh my god. I always bawl my eyes out after the gang walks away and it pans down to the yearbook ' the future is ours' ..... Every fucking time. It hits really different when you're 40 now and you watched this when you're 20 and the hopefulness of it is literally heartbreaking.

Chas Summers

Congrats on finishing an overrated and mediocre season of this show. It opens and finishes strong but the rest is all forgettable. Too many characters. Too much Bangel. Too many choices made just to set up the spinoff. Onwards to bigger and better seasons.

Domi E

He will be missed!!!

Domi E

Hahahaha the poor guy!!!

One very interesting thing (to me at least) about Buffy is how fans rank the various seasons. With most shows the pattern is usually pretty clear. Initially even great shows take a few seasons to find their stride. They then build momentum and quality for a while and finally the writing starts to slip a little in the later seasons. Usually this seems to happen when the original vision plays out and they start scrambling for stories. *cough*Game of Thrones*cough*. Generally the shows fans are pretty much agreed about this and it's a rare show that escapes this pattern. With Buffy its a little different. Once the show hits its stride in season 02 it doesn't look back and it's a testament to the quality of its writing, acting, directing and overall vision. Only with a show this consistently good do the fans have the luxury of debating which of the seasons is the best and there is no clear ranking among fans with each season having its proponents and detractors. This just shows how great each season really is. In fairness a part of this may be because when the show was canceled the story clearly was not over. When you read seasons 08-12 in comic form you realize that the show was actually only at about the half way mark when it concluded. Seasons 01-12 in my opinion, when taken as a whole have a clear narrative arc and, alongside Angel tell a complete story with a pretty satisfying conclusion. In this context season 03 marks the end of act 01, the high school years. Without spoiling anything I think of seasons 04-07 as act 02, the college years. To be fair the series finale is pretty satisfying but it's clear even in the moment that there are still a couple more acts to go.

palisade

Yesterday was a pretty great day for reactions. You dropped your reaction to the the season 03 finale and Liam dropped his reaction to the season 06 finale. Add in a couple more reactions from others I follow and I'm overwhelmed with Buffy reaction goodness. 😁😁😁😁

palisade

R. I. P. Larry 😢 (and Snyder).

William Hult

To begin with I want to say how much I love watching your reactions. Buffy isn't the best show I've watched but it's my favorite, and it's the one that has meant the most to me as a person. To be able to share that love for this show, even with a complete stranger, makes me incredibly happy, and I always look forward to hearing your thoughts on an episode. The fact that the mayors weakness is his relationship with Faith has always been very interesting to me. Faith doesn't go to the mayor until the end of episode 15, which would indicate that the mayor would have been without weakness for the majority of the season. Furthermore it would mean that Buffy wouldn't have been able to defeat him if it weren't for Faith turning evil. I've also always found it fascinating that the mayors weakness, his relationship with others, is Buffy's strength. Throughout the show we have seen that Buffy relies on her friends to support her, in this episode she arms her entire class to fight evil. The fact that she connects with others makes her more powerful. Even in "helpless" where she is at her weakest, it's her need to save her mom that gives her the strength to defeat the vampire. To then have the big bad's weakness be that he had a connection with someone else is just incredibly interesting. I have always wondered if there is some meaning in that or if it's just a coincidence that the writers didn't think of. Of course it's also possible that I'm just over analyzing things...

Domi E

Omg this is hilarious. These poor people!!

Domi E

Thank you Veronika!! That is actually an absolutely great point and it totally makes sense now as to why they didn’t go for an actual death! Great insight!! Thank you!

Domi E

Great points! The mayor being such a pleasant “person” was for sure something that made him very interesting!

Domi E

Great points Jonathan!!!

Domi E

Great comments! I’m def curious to rewatch S3 and see how I read their relationship now. Also hope you don’t mind but I kinda skipped past the Star Wars comments because I haven’t seen it yet but I’m planning to so I don’t want spoilers!

Domi E

PS: The first line made me giggle so thanks for that 😂

Steve Quast

A principal with a bug up his butt the size of an emu must surely be considered a delicacy among newly ascended demon snakes.

Steve Quast

Yes, Snyder, you will be missed. As a principal you proved more or less adequate.

Domi E

oh damn that’s a really great point!!!

UTU49

I need to remember that I shouldn't assume everyone has seen Star Wars. It's a really big story that you will probably enjoy a lot of.

UTU49

A certain type of Star Wars fan will demand that you watch the first 6 films (2 separate trilogies) in a mixed up order. In my opinion this is a needless complication. Those fans need to let new watcher's watch one trilogy at a time. If you (or anyone else) is watching Star Wars or The MCU for the first time, you need someone you trust to help you avoid people needlessly complicating the situation. For one thing, they cause debates that are likely to be spoilery. I'll re-edit my original post to remove spoilery stuff for Star Wars.

UTU49

Okay I put anything that could be spoilery for Star Wars... in rot13... so the entire comment is entirely safe for Her Domi-ness to read. BTW... "Her Domi-ness" is just what I wrote in my notes for myself, but then I thought it would be fun to include it in my post.

Steve Quast

Yeah, I don't know why some people want newcomers to watch the first 2 Star Wars trilogy in a weird order. The two most natural sequences are order of release (my preference) or just going from 1 to 6.

FernWithy

While the final battle lacked, for me, the same emotional punch as Becoming 2, the scenes of Angel feeding on Buffy and the shared dream with Faith elevate it. Especially the latter--what a great dramatization of integrating your shadow self: "I can't use all of this"/"Just take what you need."

Jordan Haddow

Great reaction. I love season 3 so much and the finale has so many surprises. I love your face when the Mayor ascends. Priceless. Also, finally, you get to witness one of the most horrifying scenes in all the episodes up till now. WES AND CORDY's nightmare makeout-a-thon. Ack! Lastly, don't feel so bad because this season was so awesome and now it's over. Each season from now on is great. Not equally, but in different ways. You by no means have past the best this show has to offer. Looking forward to seeing your s4 and Angel reactions.

UTU49

Steve Q. They're like flat-earthers. Believing something out of the ordinary makes them feel special. I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

litafanforlife

Season 3, followed very closely by season 2 is my favourite season of the show. I've loved re-watching the show along with you and seeing your reactions. Faith is one of my favourite characters even though I also hate her at times (she only comes in after Buffy and Angel and sometimes I'd say she ties with them for favourite), but I am not mad at Buffy at all for what she did. Faith made too many bad choices, so she ended up where she ended up. With that being said, I always hoped that somewhere down the road that Faith would be okay and we could see her again. There's so much complexity and emotion between Buffy/Faith but it was truly one of my favourite dynamics. Buffy/Angel is without a doubt my favourite couple from the Buffy-verse, so it was heartbreaking to see the goodbye. I don't know how the majority of viewers feel, but to me the Buffy/Angel blood drinking scene was one of the best scenes from the show. There was so much emotion leading into it. Also, the part of the scene where they're on the floor and Buffy is squishing the water pitcher or whatever it was wasn't really about pain, but rather a sense of pleasure. I felt so bad for Angel when he was berated at the hospital. I wish he would have explained what actually happened because he definitely wasn't a bad guy in the situation. Angel was ready to die, he had no intention of feeding on Buffy. Buffy essentially forced him into drinking her blood, not being able to just let him die knowing that she could save him. Buffy and Angel have taken me on an emotional rollercoaster ride and I don't regret a minute of loving them lol. Willow and Oz are wonderful, so it's nice that they make it out of this season together. I was just so happy that all the main characters made it out alive, some in better conditions that others, but at least alive. RIP to Larry and the hilarious but absolutely horrible Snyder. And kudos to Cordy for staking that vampire. Enjoy the new seasons Domi :)

Domi E

My stubborn self tried to read it in rot13, idk what that is but I def could not read it. So good job :P

Domi E

Great points Claire!

Domi E

<3 It was heartwarming in so many ways!

Domi E

Hahah thank you Chas! I love that different people have different favorite seasons, makes me so excited to continue!!

Domi E

Yup still so much to come and I can't freaking waiiittt!!!

Domi E

Oh that's awesome!! Perfect timing!!!!

Domi E

That's an absolutely incredible point!! I love the duality of this. And thank you so much that's very sweet of you to say :)

Domi E

Yup yup yup. True!!

Domi E

Super excited to keep watching!! Thanks Jordan!!

Domi E

Thank you so much!! And yep I have to say the end of Buffy and Angel really is so sad :( They're freaking great

UTU49

Do-Ray-Mi, yer sew funnee. I did the same thing actually -- I tried to read it in rot13. I actually wrote that and I still had a very difficult time deciphering just a couple of words. I basically was just able to guess a couple of words based on the length of the words and a couple of repeated letters. Are you not aware of "rot13" as an encoding method? It's one of the easiest encoding methods to use because you use the same process for ENcoding and DEcoding. Also there's a handy dandy website which translates rot13 for you. It's handy. I think the reactor communities would benefit from using rot13 more often.

UTU49

The Mayor is such an enormous weirdo.

Steve Quast

The Mayor is my spirit weirdo.

UTU49

Great comment, William. These characters are so complex and specific that we can find all kinds of interesting parallels everywhere. I think Buffy is a show that is emotionally nourishing... and it is one of the few shows that is. "Of course it's also possible that I'm just over analyzing things... " Over analyzing things is fun!

Loves Bitca

"Wakey Wakey?" In their shared Slayer mind, Faith told Buffy to take what she needs. As in Slayer power. There wasn't enough to revive or empower both of them. Faith let Buffy take the power she needed to get up and back up to strength. Leaving Faith in her coma.
