Although logically there are plenty in of ways a vampire could attack your home without crossing the threshold (eg arson) that rarely come up in the Buffyverse.

When Kate shoots the demon guy who’s on fire, she actually saves Angel’s life, as he says later. The guy was heading toward a prone Angel.

I love how Cordelia can point out all these things about random people, but she missed the monster. (She was pointing right near it lol)

Come on, Angel. Go for it. Go for Kate. Instead of being 225 years older than her you're only 210 years older. :P (Seriously though, Angel and Kate do have good chemistry in that scene).

I'm glad you really liked this one. A lot of fans and reactors don't like it much or they just think it's okay. I think, considering that it's only the second episode of the series, and an episodic one at that, that it's pretty good. And yeah, the monster was very cool.

I loved the business card scene at the beginning of the show. Angel and Doyle couldn't figure out the drawing on the card. And when Doyle agreed once Cordy told them it was an angel, she looks disgusted and says "Shut up."

I have to wonder how do people find someone now that phone books have gone out of style? You know if I were in the buffyverse I would not invite Angel into my place, ever. Sure he's good now but for how long? And there's no reason we have to meet in my place anyway we can talk anywhere without taking away my safe space.

I think some people are a bit turned off by the early-00s vibe Angel has, especially the flash cuts, but I think it really works for it. The aesthetic feels more cold and chaotic than the safe warm 90s style of Buffy, but it makes sense for something centered around a character like Angel. And Cordelia's pragmatism, assertiveness, and honest energy is perfect for this sort of show. She was a foil for the scoobies precisely because her personality was so big. It was delightful to watch, but the structure of Buffy limited her growth, and her contributions were rarely framed as essential to the group. But Angel is a place she can actually flourish and not just be defined by the contrast she brings to the dynamic. *She* defines the dynamic in Angel.

I'm not sure, but I think that phone books are still being made, but they're just a lot thinner. I admit that I could be wrong.

They've gone feral. They live in the forest now.

I'd rank this episode in the bottom half, but it's the Buffyverse, so it still has tons of good stuff in it.

I love the music of the montage! It's "Touched" by VAST.

Oh gosh, kinda problematic age difference... To say the least?

Domi E

Yeah exactly! I think it was a strong way to start off for sure!

Domi E

Oh I wouldn't invite any vampires into my place either, only VampWillow....

Domi E

Yup, totally agree. And love this!
