THE BITCH IS BACK!!!!!!

About my July schedule: For the month of July I will be posting 1 Buffyverse reaction a week (every Monday) instead of my usual 2. I won't have access to my computer so I'm using this as a way to take a small break and focus on moving to LA and working on my writing (my poor movie feels very neglected). I'm hoping that by August I'll be able to go back to twice a week, but I'll keep you all posted when I know for sure :)

You're right, the title is Room With A View, but there is a reason it's written as "Rm wa Vu." It's based on old newspaper ads, in which people paid for ads per letter, so things were written in shortened form like that to save money. In ads in which those offering apartments had one that had a window that looked out on a nice view, those letters were code for Room with a View. It's not explained directly in the episode because at the time this came out, newspapers were still the only way to do such ads, which means it was common knowledge, and at the time, anyone of age who had ever lived on their own would have known what it meant.

I bet you loved this episode. Lots of Cordy. About your videos- I'll miss two per week, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck with your writing.

Nica Marie

So, according to the commentary track, he's named Phantom Dennis in reference to the recently released Star Wars prequel: The Phantom Menace. Get it? Don't feel bad if you didn't. No one else did either which is why it's explained on the commentary track.

I love this episode. It's so dark, and I love the reveal flashback scene after Dennis inspired by Cordy standing up to his Mother jumps into Cordy so that she can release him and reveal his Mothers sin. As I said the revelation flashback is chilling, and amazing, and it's disappointing, that some networks vandalized the episode, by removing it leaving a big plot point unexplained.

Lee Wilcock

Also I would like to say. That Dennis s Mother might have been a psychotic maniac, but her brick work and plastering on that wall was really good quality. Just goes to say everyone has good qualities. lol :D

Foamy

One of my favorite Espenson scripts. Economical writing.

Ron Fehr

I loved your wide-eyed look when one landlord was telling Cordelia that he had the only other key to the apartment. Cordy knew right then that she was desperate enough to ask Doyle for help.

Lee Wilcock

Same idea as text abbreviations. Texts are often charged per letter just like those old newspaper adverts, and we have come up with a whole lot of abbreviations which are often even used in everyday speech.

Raven Dark

That's true. Interesting way to look at that.

Ron Fehr

Cordy called the ghost in her house Phantom Dennis as a nod to the Star Wars movie Phantom Menace, which had arrived in movie theaters months earlier.

Just to let you know - there's still a bit of a synchronization problem (the video is approximately 200ms behind the audio)

I think this is the best episode of Angel so far. The woman immuring her own son is delightfully dark. Plus we not only get a lot of Cordelia but also more insight into Doyle - and the promise of more to come. That's quite a surreptitious way to tell us your birthday :-D And I agree there was definitely a look from Kate.

Stewart Denew

Cordelia just deciding she's moving in & Angel not able to do anything about it is great & "do you have mousse? ...of course you do" just tickles me.

FernWithy

Reason: Real estate ads were in print mostly at the time (especially non-corporate, private deals), and people paid by the letter, so there were a lot of well-known abbreviations that everyone would know at the time. Doing it that way would basically say "This is dealing with the small-scale real estate market." ETA: I checked around on Angel's last name. No, it's not mentioned anywhere. There are fan theories based on later events that I won't mention, but no... he's such a rock star that he manages to sign leases without a surname.

Mark Sahba

Also, the aberrations came out of need. Newspapers charged per letter per day for the each ad.

Raven Dark

Yeah, that's what I was saying.

Ron Fehr

I wanted to check the scene with Kate to find out when your birthday is, but I didn't have time. Well, whenever it is, Happy Birthday. Lol

Steve Quast

Your face when the ghost peeks from behind the wall. LOL

Steve Quast

I love this episode. I had a feeling you would love it, too, being so Cordy-centric and all. I enjoy the Doyle storyline as well and how it crosses paths with Cordelia's dilemma at the end. Makes for quite an intense scene. And yep, it's the same ghost that's mentioned later on in the series. By the time you came into the show, the main characters were mostly centered in the hotel.

Steve Quast

If it's like Cordelia's ghost, definitely go with the Casper. You don't want any demons like Kathy trying to suck out your soul every night.

Samiah

I love this episode cuz it’s so Cordy centric but I really have a tough time watching Angel be so verbally abusive to Cordy. When they are in the apartment and stuff is flying and she’s crying and frozen with crippling fear. He has the audacity to say to her “you can be the biggest pain I’ve ever seen.” Dude….she’s already feeling like a piece of shit. I get this was maybe intended to piss her off or something and awaken the “bitch” but just really doesn’t sit well with me. Anyways, great reaction as usual! We will miss your two a week postings but also really wanna support your writing and self care time! Good luck with all the moving stuff and such! If it comes down to a choice between Kathy and a ghost, I’d say pick ghost. Lol

"Angel Investigations: We hope you're helpless."

UTU49

I can't say "Rabid monkey with/a Vulnerable uvula" is my favorite episode... but it's still pretty good.

Bri

I had two thoughts watching this time. One, while I certainly don't want Cordy to feel worthless, I really am glad she's getting to grips with how terribly she's treated people in the past. I was really annoyed when she wanted to talk to Willow about the ethics of boyfriend stealing, but had never seemed interested in apologising to Willow about her bullying of Willow over the years. I'm glad she's beginning to address it now. That's definitely part of becoming a better human, so I'm pleased that Cordy is starting that journey in earnest here. Two, I love how Angel prods Doyle in this episode. Doyle, Cordy and Angel are on this journey towards becoming better people together, and Angel acknowledging that to Doyle, and making sure Doyle knows that some self-revelation is needed for that process to be meaningful, is very beautiful.

Domi E

Thanks for letting me know guys! Makes a lot more sense how haha

Domi E

Ooooh nice! Never seen Star Wars but hey, it's on my list!

Domi E

Oh damn I can't believe they would take that away! It explains everything!

Domi E

Awesome! Love the reference!

Domi E

Please know that I am screaming as I read this.. Though I'm sure it will arrive 200ms late anyways. I've tried everything I know to fix the audio, I don't know what keeps happening... I'll look into it again, sorry!

Domi E

Haha, I love this show!!

Domi E

Damnnnnn Mr Angel Sir, that's very iconic of him.

Domi E

Haha. It's October 18th so it's far away! But thanks :D

Domi E

Should have seen that one coming!!

Domi E

Yeah that's what I sort of remember!

Domi E

Okay another vote for ghost, noted! And thank you Samiah ;)

Domi E

Best freaking line LOL!

Domi E

That really is a good point. I know I can be a bit of a Cordy apologist but I'm glad she's changing for the better <3

Thom Purdy

Kate Lockley. I love the Cordy "I'm a Bitch" moment!

Ron Fehr

I was just wondering about something. Since you won't really have access to your computer in July, does that mean that you won't be able to respond to our comments? Because that's always a treat to see.

Lee Wilcock

Patreon has a phone app. She could use that.

Jordan Haddow

The bitch is back. Love that moment. Let's face it, Cordy doesn't do well as the frail damsel in distress. I do like how they are breathing some depth into her character though. In Buffy, she had no time in an episode for real intraspection. Now she does. Plus, after being beat down since her families fall, she's really getting some solid ground to stand on. The job was a good start, but cockroaches in the home is definitely in the before column of building a stable life. It may not be the world's greatest episode, but we got some real Cordy growth along with Doyle, she has a great place, and we all have ghost Dennis now.

Domi E

Yes don’t worry, I’ll have my phone to answer :)

Domi E

Great points, I love it and I LOVE CORDY!!

KT

The bits with Cordelia at Angel's basement apartment are some of my favorites in the episode. Angel and Cordelia being high maintenance at each other is the best, it's our first real look at the similarities in their personalities. Angel doesn't express it a lot, but he obviously has an appreciation for material items. He likes to live in large beautiful spaces with lots of art everywhere. He's more lavish than practical, and I think he would at least secretly somewhat agree with Cordelia's sentiment that living in a nice space makes him feel better about himself.

KT

And I'm sorry but Angel marching into the room in a long silk robe that he hasn't bothered to close cracks me up every time. And listening to classical music in the shower! Love our boy.

Domi E

Haha it really is the best!! So many little details, gotta love it!

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

I am SO far behind!!!! Your face when the ghost face came out of the wall. Man, I've missed your faces :D I knew you'd like this one - so much Cordy! And I just love her insistence that she won't give up her beautiful apartment just because it's haunted by a freaking terrifying old ghost lady! So, did you pretend you were Cordy on your apartment hunt? ;)
