I just finished watching what I'm sure was one of your favorite parts of the episode. Riley just punched out 'he who shall not be named'. It was so satisfying, wasn't it?

Steve Quast

Domi: Tara's the only character left I'm looking forward to. I can't think of any others. Also Domi: Is that GUNN???

Richard Ashton

"My little mentholated pack of smokes" - never tried that one with a girl. You reckon it would work?

Ron Fehr

Steve Quant No, it isn't. His name is mentioned a couple of times during the episode.

Ron Fehr

I love the scene with Willow and Spike in the dorm room. The discussion about Spike not being able to bite is obviously supposed to make viewers think of erectile dysfunction.

Veronika

I'm at the very beginning of the reaction but I'm already so hyped! You have TS's Reputation t-shirt! 😍 so awesome!

Steve Quast

Buffy: I'm going to kill Spike tonight! Spike: *just smirks and points to his name in the credits*

Zak

Spike and Willow in this are absolutely amazing together, just like Lovers Walk, great pairing. Although saying that pair Spike with literally anyone and I'd say that, but this pairing is special.

Antonio

Poor Willow crossing off Harmony and now Spike on her S4 Vampire Bites bingo card.

UTU49

oh, this episode. yeah, some stuff happens in this one.

UTU49

I have a bad headache, so I'm really happy that one of my favorite reactors uploaded a big episode today. ttyl, guys!

Anitusar

Oh, new searching game. Do we find Tara in this episode? No, hmmm, maybe the next one. Much more fun than searching for the big bad. ;) And why is noone mentioning the most dangerous and epic fight scene ever done. The stunt doubles for Harmony and Xander really defined action on a whole new level ...

zerofk

So, pretty unsurprising episode amirite? Almost predictable even. I like the part after the psych class. Professor Walsh's "you feel your exception is exceptional - it is, to you" is very true. It's not nice, but it's true. People always feel they are entitled to more special treatment than the rest of the world. But also Buffy's retort "for someone who teaches human behaviour, you might try showing some" is wonderful.

Jordan Haddow

I can kind of get the Gunn misidentification. The windows behind them were fairly bright, which usually shadows the characters, plus, lets face it, the film shows use does a terrible job with showing black characters well (or sometimes at all. I remember being quite mad at Elementary as some fo the black characters disappeared to the point that they were just an outline.) I think she picked up on it pretty fast once the angle changed and they got in closer so his face was lit considerably better.

Jordan Haddow

I'm not even sure many of the younger women today would understand what the mentholated even means. Plus no. Just no. Might as well say a girl is as cute as a quart of oil.

Molly Willis

Still the most impressive plot reveal I've ever seen on TV - it's amazing how they dangled Riley in front of us for so many episodes and there are hints/foreshadowing moments along the way and I've NEVER seen anyone guess before the elevator scene.

Bri

Look, I like seeing Parker get punched in the face as much as the next person. But, I want to say a big 'ew, gross' to the background misogyny of this episode. The disgusting way Parker talks about Buffy isn't objectionable to Riley in itself (Forrest apparently says worse shit than this, ugh) - he must have felt uncomfortable/pissed off because he has special feelings for Buffy. Ewwwwww! Are we honestly supposed to think that shit is sweet? This is an unrhetorical question. Are we genuinely supposed to ship in this moment? Also, as someone who used to be a TA, it would have been extremely frowned upon to date a student, much less a freshman. At 23 I was 5 years older than my students, which isn't nothing when the younger person is 18, plus - he literally marks her papers. Nope, not great.

Jordan Haddow

i don't know. His violent mood swings from murderously violent to sobbing pathetic puppy seem to play well off her. Somehow, violence against Willow is just so jarring that we almost fall out of our seats, yet somehow she always manages to get him to spill his innermost turmoils and she just can't help but be sympathetic despite the danger she's in. They have a special pairing for sure.

Jordan Haddow

Great reaction. Oz may be gone, but Spike is not only back, but headlining. Oh, and his shenanigans start off with a bang. Tell me, did you break out in a sweat when the scene where he jumped and bit Willow cut to black. Obviously, with that slow pan in the hallway to show us that nobody was coming to her rescue, they were also giving him enough time to drain her dry. Even when they cut back to them, she was laying there on the bed still as a dead body, kind of like they wanted us to think. Jerks. Not Willow I say. She still has to meet up with Tara. Plus, Willow. Just no. Plus all the twists. Riley, Riley, Riley. What are we going to do with that boy? Got to love them debriefing after Buffy handed them their asses. It was huge. Uh, have you seen Buffy. She is many things, but huge is not one of them, lol. Anyways, looking forward to the next. I won't say anything about what's to come other than I personally really like season 4.

Steven

No, J. August Richards (who's a bit taller) does look a bit like Leonard Roberts; similar physiques but mainly I think because they can both rock a shaved head.

CeNedra

Yeah that was Forrest, you'll love him.. big fan favourite 😶🤔🤣

Mark Sahba

This reaction exemplifies why I love your reactions! I've seen Buffy many many times so it is so much fun to see you react to the twists and turns.

Lee Wilcock

Have you seen 4x10 aka 'Hush' yet Domi ?

Melissa Murphy

I loved finding out that Spike was in the intro the first time I watched because, honestly, having him on only once or twice a season was not enough for me lol!

Keenan White

I just loved your reaction when you realized that Riley was one of the Creepers, as you call them.

GenU

Now I'm intrigued as to how you found out about Tara. And how MUCH you found out about her.

Ron Fehr

At least your guess about the episode title was fairly accurate. Now you can put a name to those 'creeps'.

Ron Fehr

With the smoke and the flare gun going off, I don't know if Riley actually recognized Buffy. It made things seem kind of hazy, and objects could not be seen clearly. In fact, there was a shot of Buffy where the camera was really out of focus. I think that was done to emphasize my point. And remember at the debriefing, they said that whoever the guy was, he was big. One of them at least didn't realize that it was Buffy.

Ron Fehr

Remember though. Riley is a student as well, not a full-fledged professor. Yes, there's an age difference, but maybe not as big as you think.

Hosman

I feel bad for Giles. He went from having 2 paychecks (The Watchers Council and the Sunnydale School District) to having none. Hopefully he has some cash saved up lol.

Stewart Denew

Cool you're looking forward to Tara... no spoilers, but i'm confident you'll like her, everyone loves Tara :) Giles & Xander... they're clearly missing hanging out with the rest of the group & it's funny to see them bonding over it. Aww poor Spike and his failure... clear impotence metaphor & gotta be hurting, especially with his self image. Love how Willow's protective of Buffy & willing to help Riley have a chance, even while dealing with her own issues - and hey, more than anything else Riley looking out for Willow including with the music like that is probably one of the best ways to make a good impression on Buffy that he could have had. Harmony is an underappreciated gem of a character & that fight scene, with the full slow-mo serious treatment is a classic. Clear Batman inspiration with the lift as the entry into the hidden base & your face at the reveal... :)

Vicky N

So far the seventh episode of each season we had a big reveal. Season 1 “Angel”, season 2 “Lie to me”, season 3 “Revelations” and this season is not different. Will see if they continue. Love this episode and how it pokes fun at traditional gender roles withe the added typical Buffy subversion of expectations. We have 3 instances of traditional male behavior that are made fun of. The college frat boys with Riley and his pals and their overtly exaggerated sexualized conversation about girls. And in their alternate version as Initiative being humiliated by the Slayer. Xander and Giles discussing their ability to use firearms only to have Giles inquiring about type of juice and Xander hilariously humiliating epic fight with Harmony. And of course Spike and his erectile dysfunction. Speaking of which, did you notice that when he was with Harmony after escaping the Initiative, he kept playing with phallic shaped weaponry.

Richard Ashton

Damn. Not only does my car not use oil but oil doesn't come in quarts around here anyway. Best I can do is '4 Litres of Castrol Magnatec 5W30 Oil', but I have a feeling that won't work too well.

Bri

Like I say, when I was a TA, I was 23 (pretty much the youngest you can be unless you Dougie). I also wasn't a professor, I was a PhD student. I get what you're saying, but there's still a definite power imbalance.

Domi E

Lol yup 🤡🤡Domi is a FOOL. Bahaha. But I think other than Gunn (who I had forgotten about… I’m not gonna lie), I think that’s all the people I know in the Buffyverse?

Domi E

Aw yay!! And I loove Taylor 🥰I’ve worn my rep shirts in a few vids!

Domi E

Hahah good point. But… well, what I’m learning is that credits don’t mean SHIT they can still take you out of the show😭

Domi E

Great points! They’re such great characters and it’s so interesting to see them together!!

Domi E

HAHA. Vampire Bites Bingo Card I’M DEAD!!

Domi E

aww❤️❤️feel better!!

Steve Quast

Just giving you a bad time Domi, haha. But I think you know that. Well, there's Gunn, and of course you're still waiting for Darla. There's one or two others, at least on the Angel side of things, but I won't say anything about them.

Steve Quast

True story. Looks like Spike is just going to have to prove himself in other ways.

UTU49

Well there's that song that goes, "Buffalo Gal, won't you come out tonight, won't you come out tonight, won't you come out tonight?" If you are attracted to a woman, don't compare them to large mammals. It doesn't go all that well. This has been my experience.

UTU49

I love the explosive plot developments in this episode. So much happens in multiple subplots. How many subplots and/or great pairings can I come up with? 1. Spike's escape and discovery that he has been neutered (or whatever) by "The Initiative". 2. Riley realizes he likes Buffy, like the dumbass he is. Of course you like Buffy, you idiot. Who wouldn't? 3. The full revelation of the Initiative's existence, and the revelation that Riley and Walsh are part of it. 4. Spike/Harmony 5. Giles/Xander 6. Xander/Harmony 7. Spike/Willow 8. This episode has Forrest and Graham, who we have not seen before. 9. Buffy/Walsh. 10. I almost forgot: Willow/Riley, which is actually one of the biggest aspects of this episode. 11. And finally, it appears that we have a new ship about to launch. There's got to be a couple of big things from this episode that I missed, because I wrote this pretty quickly without stopping and thinking very much.

UTU49

I like Season 4 a lot too. To me, the difference between Buffy seasons is just whether they have 4 awesome episodes or 8 awesome episodes. All seasons -- including my least favorite seasons -- are well worth watching.

Jordan Haddow

Absolutely. I'm in full agreement.

Domi E

OMGGG DARLAAAA DRUUU MY VAMPIRE BABIES COME BACK TO ME

Domi E

Sooo excited to see it!!!

Domi E

Hahah. They deserve a raise after that!! And LOL love this game, even though I have a feeling it’s gonna leave me frustrated for a while.. WHERE ARE YOU TARA COME TO ME!!!

Domi E

Great points, they’re great quotes. Both so true!

Domi E

I can’t wait to rewatch and notice the hints and foreshadowing cause brooo I was so shocked!!

Domi E

Totally feel your point Bri! I agree!

Domi E

So excited to keep watching!! So many freaking questions!!

Domi E

Very true! Can’t believe I fell for it for a sec, Domi the fool!

Domi E

Aww thank you so much!!

Domi E

Not yet :( It’s the next one I have to watch but I’m on a break right now so it will still be a few weeks til I can watch it?

Domi E

Right, Melissa? I can’t wait to see him more!!

Domi E

Thank you Keenan!!! Can’t wait to see them keep creeping!

Domi E

I’ve known about her and Willow for years. Only the sense of knowing they’re a couple, I’ve heard people mention them in their list of favorite couples and stuff. I know absolutely nothing else other than the fact that they date, and I once saw in an article that mentioned they were one of the first long lasting lesbian relationships on TV or something. That’s all I know.

Domi E

Yup, oh man it’s gonna get intenseee!!

Domi E

I’m so excited to meet her, Stewart!! I love her already haha. And really good point, Riley and Willow really bonded in a very sweet way and I love it!

Domi E

Omg Vicky, didn’t notice that!! Gonna have to pay attention in my rewatch! Absolutely great points!

Molly Willis

There's a teeny tiny one in this episode you can only catch on rewatches: when Giles is drawing the commando men Buffy says "that's your man" and Giles responds "your man, actually", which can be read as a reference to her current flirtationship with Riley!

Domi E

Damn, there really is SO much happening this episode!! They do it so freaking well!!

Domi E

Omg!!!! Totally hadn’t caught that!

Ron Fehr

In the beginning of season 1, Joss had thought of putting Eric Balfour (Xander's friend Jessie) in the credits, and removed after episode 2. As you can see, this didn't happen.

UTU49

They seem to frequently fit 84 minutes worth of story into 42 minutes. Not just 2 or 3 times a season... but LOTS of times. I love Buffy... and Buffy reactions. The only thing that will stop me from watching Buffy reactions is my own death.

Ron Fehr

I've seen all the episodes, so I'm not telling when you'll meet Tara.

UTU49

It's like a race. Domi is waiting (im)patiently to see if or when Tara, Darla, and Drusilla will show up. Who will you see first? Will any of them show up this season? Will any of them show up next season? Nobody knows (except for ALL of us who know the series well).

Domi E

I WANNNA KNOOOOWWWWWWW ARGHHHHHHHH

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

Yeah, got to agree. I did at one point date a 21 year old senior from a different department, so I guess I think THAT'S OK (:/) but not if you're marking their papers >:(

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

I'm thinking he must have. If I got paid two whole pay cheques for three years I'd be doing pretty well :D

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

Oh the reveal :D And the best slo-mo fight in buffyverse history🤣 And Xander's mum offering Xander and Giles fruit punch 🥰 Willow's a good friend, heart broken but helping Riley out (while threatening him with a shovel lol) This is the first time I realised that when the lights went out in the dorm all the doors locked. That's why Willow couldn't get out and you hear somebody yell 'it's not funny, let me out!' That's some power they've got! Giles and Xander are very funny together. But Giles definitely told him off a few times in the high school years. Getting Buffy turned in to a rat comes to mind lol And yes, Giles really has changed since 1x01 lol and it's amazing how well people can draw in the buffyverse. Angel, now Giles, do you think pre Angelus they used to sketch together 😂 (even Cordelia sketched that fish monster pretty well in Go Fish lol)

Marty

Totally agree! I also don’t like when Riley sees buffy on the campus and try to get her to her dorm, and when she asks him to leave her alone he doesn’t respect her space and also try to force her physically by grabbing her, and then when buffy asks if women can’t take care of themselves he says yes. He’s a quote on quote “nice guy” and I really don’t see how people find him sweet and good for buffy, just because he isn’t a murderer it doesn’t make him a good guy. And as you said, people like him because he punches Parker, the biggest asshole, but first I don’t condone violence outside of the supernatural, since both Riley and Parker are humans, him punching him is only a macho thing, and if he wanted to stand up for buffy he could have just defended her with words; second, he only did it because apparently he likes buffy, and not because what he said was awful. So yeh, now we’re supposed to be “good Riley thank you, he’s a good guy”, but no.

Marty

I cheered so much when I saw spike in the credits for the first time!!! It was like finally everything is ok in the world, like it’s supposed to be😂 he literally has so much chemistry with every cast member, you could pair him with anyone and you would have a great scene. I loved him with dru and angel, and I love him with harmony. And his scenes with willow are always hilarious, she always ends up comforting him after he tries to kill her😂😂 and his mood swings are something else, he’s so dumb I love him. As for Riley, I’ve always been kind of indifferent to him, but The more I rewatch the show the more I don’t like him, him punching Parker doesn’t make him a good guy, it was just an exhibition of machismo, and only because he apparently likes buffy and not because what he said was gross. I personally don’t condone violence outside the supernatural and since both Riley and Parker are humans, I really didn’t like that display of testosterone, if he wanted to stand up for buffy I would have appreciated more if he had done that by simply telling him that, plus he’s an assistant professor so that was also harassment and clearly unprofessional and he should have been fired for touching one of the students, even if it was the worst human being like Parker.
