This episode is disturbing in the most fun of ways, and I freaking love it.

The episode of Buffy saying "I can't have that vampire.....I'll try this one."

Steve Quast

You actually made it ten minutes before mentioning Jenny. Is this a new record?

Steve Quast

In all seriousness, though. I like the double-entendre of the title for this episode. Willow is blue (sad) throughout the episode, but it's also about the faux wedding that almost happens between Buffy and Spike as a result of Willow's said blueness.

Ron Fehr

I have to disagree with Riley about driving. A vehicle is meant to take you places. If you're just driving, you're wasting money. It's not practical.

madfem

loving the "manifesting Tara" going on in this one :p

FernWithy

The other thing with Anya here is that we sort of start to see one of her strengths, is that she knows a lot about the demon world, just from a thousand years of being part of it.

UTU49

YAY! Buffy + Domi = (^_^)

Using a sibling's clothing is quite foreign to me. Also, I think that shirt actually says "2YACILIOH 3VO.I I". This episode is a bit too comedic for me but not too bad luckily. And watching you react to it makes it a lot more fun. I'm glad you enjoyed it :-) I like that they brought back the same demon from Doppelgangland - he's in one scene at the start of that episode and now he gets a bit more background, having made Anya into a demon.

Can't say I agree. When I was in my teens, my friend and I used to drive for hours listening to tunes. We would talk and just chill. My home life wasn't great at the time. My friend had saved up for a sporty car and loved nothing more than to go out and hug the corners. I understand what you mean, but if you can't hang out at home, everywhere you hang out is going to charge you for the privilege. The car had comfy seats, privacy, and great sound. Not practical, but fun..

So begins Spuffy. I think the episode threw everybody their first time through. I mean, you barely survive that last Angel episode, then this one starts with Willows heart shattering. You're just thinking to yourself both shows are sinking you into the dumps of depression, then suddenly Buffy is making out with Spike. It's so hilarious and unexpected. We all know what Willow says will come true by that point, but our brains refuse to make that jump until we actually see it. Shan from After Show Reacts is a notorious Spuffy fan and her though on this episode was, "It gave me something I never knew I wanted until now." I have to admit, my first time watching it through, I wasn't really hoping they would get together. Still it was funny. Also, personally, I found them a more interesting couple than her and Riley. I always found Buffy to be too kick ass, and frankly dark, for the clean cut guys. My opinion at least. It sounds like you have an idea what's happening next episode. I won't say anything other than I can't wait to see your reaction of it. This episode was a great reaction as usual.

Ron Fehr

Good points, Jordan. Under your circumstances at the time, I can understand your view.

As someone who was never into Bangel (cue Domi's shocked face!) even while watching the show 20 years ago when it originally aired, it was very interesting to see the Buffy and Spike dynamic in this episode. Even before the spell Buffy was provocatively teasing Spike to bite her in the bathroom and then saying how she's "dying for a good slay". Lots of tension there. And despite it being a spell, JM and SMG certainly have great chemistry together in this episode. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Jordan Haddow

Ah yes, I forgot that point. I can't remember if this episode was the first time it showed that she was made a demon, not that she was born a demon. Definitely filling in more of her character details.

Denni Caid

This episode just makes me happy. So many quotable lines, especially the reactions to Spike and Buffy: "How? What? How? " "Three excellent questions." "Can I be blind too?"

Jordan Haddow

Yes. One of the many things I love about Anya is how she was just a minor element of a small filler episode (which I loved). Then they kept having her back. And then she comes in just at the right moment with that key knowledge like here and back at the end of season 3. They sure can flesh out the most interesting details in characters in this show.

Darrell Palmer

Glad you're excited to see Hush. I'm excited as well and wish we didn't have to wait 3 weeks to see it.

Zak

i recently said i aint a bangel fan.....I really like spike and Buffy together, I'd ship that from this episode alone. on the episode, its one I have seen the most, it is imo fantastic comedy with a decent plot

Ryan Powers

By that logic almost every hobby in existence is just as bad. Most involve some sort of monetary or time outlay with little to no practical purpose. Heck paying for and watching reaction videos certainly counts.

Raven Dark

"I think there's gonna be some wedding stuff going on..." Holy crap. One of Domi's predictions were right. Is the world going to end? "It's not like Buffy is going to get married..." Never mind. Love this reaction, Domi. You're so awesome.

Ron Fehr

I'm not opposed to it completely, Ryan. I was just raised to think mostly about practicalities. Of course there has to be a balance. Not everything should be taken too seriously.

indaeo

SMG and James have amazing chemistry.

GenU

Sucks to be Amy. One minute she's human, the next, she's a rat.

Loves Bitca

"The one with..." Be interesting to rename all the Buffy episodes with FRIENDS like titles.

Ron Fehr

I hope that you don't take offense, but when Riley said that he was a lesbian, it reminded me of a couple of guys that I knew in college. As a joke, which is not that funny, they would say that they were lesbians in men's bodies.

Whisper_dvm

“What’s wrong with Buffy?!” “Such a good question…” 😆😆

Domi E

Hahaha, who is gonna tell her THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS!! and omg hadn’t noticed the double meaning of the title, i love that! thanks for sharing!!

Domi E

Very much so. Y’all should be proud!

Domi E

I do know people who love driving just for the sake of driving, though I’m sure it’s not for everyone.

Domi E

BRO i am ✨feeling it✨she’s coming soon!!!! they are dropping those hints and i am CATCHING THEM

Domi E

great points! i love that! anya’s the best i can’t wait to see more and more of her!

Domi E

Oooh really interesting points, hadnt caught those details!

Domi E

And thank you, Zero! ❤️❤️❤️

Domi E

Thanks Jordan!! I’m def so curious about Spuffy!

Domi E

[Domi slapping you] HOW DARE YOU NOT SHIP BANGEEEELLL????? 😋Yes they had so much chemistry this episode, super curious to see what happens to be honest!

Domi E

Too great 😂😂😂😂

Domi E

For sure, can’t wait to watch it! 🤞🏼

Domi E

it really was hilarious and super intriguing! also, so many of you guys apparently don’t like bangel and i’m shocked!!! especially considering you know…. the last episode

Domi E

RAVEN!!!! don’t call me out like this come on, you know i’m trying my best 😂😂jk jk! thank you so so much!!

Domi E

I MISS YOU AMYYYYY COME BACK TO USSSSSS

Domi E

i actually thought about doing that hahehehe but then i stuck to only this episode….. for now ;)

Jordan Haddow

I think the Angel high wears off after rewatches as you see the futility as it's going. On a first watch through, there is this hope we all had that they would find some way to stay together. It's just not possible to replicate that hope on rewatches. Finding all the stuff you missed the first time through totally makes rewatching without a major bangle crush worth while.

Domi E

Good point!! I’m curious to see how my opinions will change as I continue through the show, cause right now.. Damn Bangel really got me

Jordan Haddow

To be fair, I think that was a fairly common joke amongst male youth back in the day. A bunch of guys snickering to themselves like a pack of Beavis and Buttheads. Not sure if Domi would get that reference, if you don't it's an easy google search.

Jordan Haddow

I thought I would just add an interesting little detail that they've maintained about Spikes character in this episode. His insight. Of everybody, he's the only one who clearly saw just how fragile Willow really was. The obvious element of this show was Willow's messing up by trying to go for the quick fix. The less obvious point that Spike exposed was that the team was also at fault by ignoring Willow's pain. It's usually the common thing for the best friend to get icecream and movies and make a night of giving special attention to their broken hearted friend. Willow even specifically asked Buffy for that exact thing. They dropped the Willow ball, so they kind of deserved what they got.

UTU49

We've talked about you waiting for Tara, Darla, and Drusilla... but I forgot that you are also waiting to see if Faith will return.

UTU49

In the first 9 episodes of Season 4, there are a lot of funny episodes. I love that they had Elizabeth Anne Allen (Amy) come back for a 2-second naked cameo. What would the conversation have been like when her agent told her about the appearance? "Ummm... hi, Elizabeth. I have good news and bad news. The Buffy show has asked you back, but... ummm. They want you to come on for 2 seconds." "2 seconds?!" "Yes... and... ummm... they want you to be naked." "What?... Is this a prank? Cuz as a prank, this is mediocre... at BEST." :/

Raven Dark

Exactly. And as much as I adore this episode, that one part in Giles' apartment where everyone says their tired of Willow's "poor me mood swings" always makes me feel lowkey disgusted with the rest of the Scoobies. Buffy's "well, we're all tired of it" almost seems so cruel that it's out of character.

Ron Fehr

Having seen the episode before, I knew that Spike's proposal was coming up. And once Willow said "Fine, why doesn't she just marry him?", I was just waiting for your reaction. It couldn't have been better. You knew what was going to happen, but you sill needed to see it. After that, the Buffy/Spike scenes had you laughing. Loved it.

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

OMG I love this episode. It' so dumb but also it's so sad and so funny. Sorry, it's late, my analysis is just kjhhgfdghjkljhgfhjk :D What I got this is that you would like: Tara...her name rings a bell, I just can't place her Faith...she's very sleepy, let her nap! Giles to be happy...he deserves the world and I couldn't agree more 🥰 Oz back...so the throuple thing is on again? What you DON'T want Giles/Joyce, Giles/lady from episode 1, jeez, fussy much? 😆 Buffy and Spike kissing Buffy and Riley kissing Sad Willow (join the club) Sad Buffy (ditto) Sad Giles (so much agreement) PS. I love Anya 😍and that mug!

Stewart Denew

Giles is rapidly running out of shits to give and it just never gets old. SMG & JM have always had such fantastic chemistry & it's great to see another angle of that - loved up Spike & Buffy are oddly adorable & I love the way they still don't let up with the bickering. Spike showing off just how insightful he can be when he actually uses his brain instead of just fighting - his position as an outsider to the group but still connected to them really helps with that. Played for laughs that D'Hoffryn wants willing employees to become vengeance demons & is perfectly willing to say "oh, okay, no worries" if they say no - it's surprising how that seems to go completely over the head of most people what that says about Anya's backstory - she says herself that he made her an offer well over a thousand years before. Regarding things being set up for later... that's one of the great things about rewatching, you can see a lot of the little hints they drop, some of them very subtle indeed.

UTU49

"... seems so cruel that it's out of character." It's definitely out of character. She's under a spell. That has always been my interpretation, but maybe that's me giving the writers too much leeway.
