To be fair, Cordelia is the ultimate interpretation of anything.

Steve Quast

Speaking of Cordelia, I'd just like to point out that she called my name in this episode.

In all honesty I can only watch the first 5 of this episode, maybe the end credits too 😂😍🤣

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Probably one of my least favourite episodes in both series and I'm sure at least some portion of the fanbase would agree with me on that. The very definition of MotW, t's just kinda an episode that, well, exists. Just blah. And I feel like it could have been so good too. But we get that iconic opening scene so really how mad can we be 😆 Well played, writers, well played. And of course I'm still gonna watch the reaction.

So I did like the previous episode of Angel even though it's not popular among fans, but with this episode I definitely agree with the criticism it gets. It's simply not the best and it's one of my two least favorite episodes of the season (the other one being episode 4, the one with the doctor who "falls to pieces.") That being said, it does have its moments. The party and character moments at the beginning were fun (Wesley being a dork, Angel dancing, Angel talking to Dennis, etc.). My favorite part is when Angel improvises talking about the painting at the gallery. The rest is just very average at best.

Steve Quast

On the positive side, it's all uphill from here.

"Angel's not the most tech savvy. He should be friends with Jenny." He killed that idea back in season 2 of Buffy.

Unsubtle FGM metaphor, a real shame it had to be relegated to a monster of the week kind of episode. Love the continuity with Dennis still being present & his connection with Angel as another guy who's really not at home in that kind of party situation. The dancing being the imagine spot was a good call, lets us enjoy the moment of siliness without impacting the plot :)

A lot of people dislike this episode, but I rather like it. And I agree with Jhiera ("She") choosing her own people over two humans she doesn't even know. She's a leader and she makes choices to protect those she leads. She just doesn't have the luxury of the titular character to always have things work out for their group.

I always enjoy this one more than I remember. It gets a bad rep because of the heavy handed metaphor, but it's still enjoyable.

Perhaps at the time, the producers hadn't decided what they would do about Jhira, so they left the story open-ended. I suspect this is nothing new for many tv series. Some characters are interesting enough to merit future stories, so the possibility of returning requires sometimes leaving the viewers wondering.

About the curse explanation, Angel writers often use superficial shortcuts when it comes to what happened on BTVS. That’s why they keep implying that Angel could lose his soul simply by having sex. And in this case they completely gloss over the fact that Angel had a soul for almost 100 years before he decided to redeem his past after observing Buffy becoming the Slayer.

Ron Fehr

Another part of Angel's curse was that he would remember every single person that he killed.

yup...this episode is not great, but it has its moments...I'm so glad someone has warned you about the post-credit scenes because I was really worried you would miss it and that would be a shame :D

Nicholas J Hoover

Glad someone else agrees. I think the metaphor being heavy handed is fine. I actually wonder if the people that have a problem with it are basically indulging in apologetics.

My favorite part of the episode is Angel hiring Wes. Now he's part of the team. He's just so ridiculously happy about it too. Also, regarding getting more of Angel's history, I liked the little speech he gave about the painting. I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but he knew so much about it because he was there when it was painted. He talks about how the guy in the painting made a poem some say references an actual vampire. Obviously it does, Angel. He kind of verifies it by saying that the guy was actually taller and much more drunk than he appears in the painting. Super funny little bit and also a little bit more info on Angel's past. Oh, also, I loved hearing that your are rewatching the Buffy series already. Awesome. It just gets better when watched again. No matter how much we focus, we miss so many little details they built into the show. Rewatches allow us to uncover them and really see the layers.
