Nooooo I have at least 6 hours b4 I finish work 😟

It seems to me that the title could refer to Riley's loss of innocence. He thought that the Initiative was doing good works, but is now having his doubts. He is no longer the wholesome Iowa boy that he once was.

"We don't do denials in this house." :-D A big problem I have with this episode is that it feels like a non sequitur after how the last one ended. After seeing Buffy on the monitors Riley stormed out, ignoring direct orders. And now he's suddenly Mr. Initiative again? I know part of that is grief and withdrawal, but it started before that. It feels off to me. On the other hand I do like the scene with Adam and the kid. The kid's lack of fear is great. And although subtle, I think this scene gives a lot of background information about Adam. Almost all his lines are questions, and only when the kid points out his skewer does he smile, as if he found an answer.

Forrest jumped to a quick conclusion when he accused Buffy of stabbing professor Walsh. Yes, it looked like she had been staked. But remember in season 3. The mayor was told specifically that the item that stabbed the deputy mayor consisted of wood splinters. Forrest should have thought of that before opening his mouth.

Your confusion about what is on Riley's hand in the end is understandable, because it is very easy to miss. Buffy has put her bandana headband thingy over his hand to stop him from scratching it when they were in Xander's basement so that was the thing he was "holding onto" ;) this episode's purpose was sort of just to dump information about Adam. I never liked the episodes which only focused on the Initiative. But Tillow + the Scoobies and Domi always save the day and make me enjoy even the episodes that are not so enjoyable.

The transformation from pure joy that "Tara and Willow are on screen" to confusion and disbelieve. Love it - I guess now you have to watch Tara+Willow even more intensively :)

"Goodbye Iowa" is kind of a metaphor indicating the loss of Riley's innocence. Good ol Iowa boy, knew good vs. evil, everything is black and white. And, well you pretty much covered it, that he's wrecked, with the whole Walsh thing and not knowing which side he's supposed to be on, is he the bad guy, or with the bad guys. He thought he was doing things the right way and now thinks he may be wrong. Goodbye Iowa, he's not that guy now.

The reason Prof. Walsh was killed off is that the actress, Lindsey Crouse, wanted to leave for another acting opportunity. She was originally supposed to be the "Big Bad".

I can’t help but chuckle when you keep referring to this “tape” thing that Adam says has all of Walsh’s plans. It’s actually not a tape, it’s a floppy disk. Or as the young ones call it, the “save” icon 💾 .

Personally, I’m not much of a fan of Riley or the initiative. So for me this part of the season (last episode and this one) are some of my least favorite episodes. I just cant muster enough energy to care about Riley’s pain and issues.

Finally home from work.. can watch now 😀💞

The bandana Riley held looked like a Minnie Mouse head scarf when Buffy was wearing it. Cute.

Ron Fehr

My thoughts exactly.

Forrest's attitude towards Buffy sure changed from the first time he saw her. He was sitting with Riley and Graham having some lunch. When Riley asked if Forrest would go out with her he said "hell, yeah", or something like that.

That scene always confused me, mainly because Adam didn't eject the other disk before inserting the new one, grrrrr.

Ariel17

Maybe he ejects it from somewhere else……?🤷🏻‍♂️😬

I get what you mean about him changing from last episode to this one. I choose to believe it's something to do with your first line. In the moment, finding out that Walsh tried to kill Buffy, he took off. As time went by though, and the adrenaline lowered and he could think things over, I think denial started to set in and he started doubting Walsh could betray him like that. True, he gets unstable with the withdrawal, and I think that confuses the situation. I think the source of his denial was explained by Adam towards the end. He talks about how Walsh had focused on Riley and conditioned him, purposely using psychological and pharmacological means to alter Riley's behavior. So, we can imagine that part of that conditioning would be reinforce his loyalty to Walsh. She had Adam believing she was his mother. I think this was done intentionally as a method of control. A child's bond with their mother is very strong usually, and they are very loyal to her. Adam is incredibly strong, so I think she hoped that a psychological bond to her would allow her to maintain control over Adam. I think if she didn't leave the show so soon in the season it would have held for longer too. In any event, i choose to believe that her conditioning of Riley is why he was so set in denial of Walsh's and the Initiatives wrong doings by the time he reached Gile's place.

My first time watching the show, I kind of liked Forest. This jealousy stint he's been pulling lately really turned me off his character. It just seemed so extreme. I always felt that they had his character being in the closet and having a crush on Riley. Still, trying to blame her for murder with minimal evidence seems like too far of a reach for jealousy to make, unless the person was really unstable. I've never gotten an unstable vibe from Forest though. I kind of wonder if the writers kind of flubbed this for him with Walsh's early departure from the show. Who knows how many changes they had to make and this over reaction may have just been the bit of character development that fell through the cracks.

I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of this episode either and not just because Tara, our perfect little angel has shown a bit of something bad either. Still, I think one of the major elements of this episode was to deprogram Riley as well as showcase Adam. To deprogram someone, they say you have to break down their worldview. Destroy all the things they know to be true, and then rebuild them. Well, Riley has had everything in his life smashed to bits. As Buffy said, he was lost and alone. Except, ah ha, he wasn't. The scarf was, in my mind at least, to signify that he had Buffy. She was the one thing in the world he could still hold on to, and the scarf was the symbol for that. At least, that's how I viewed it.

Shan from After Show Reacts had a really hilarious take on it. She knew it was a floppy disk, because after this episode, he was forever known to her as Floppy Disk Dude (Can't remember fully, may have been guy instead of dude). She refused to call him Adam after. It was. a funny gag through the show after that.

Eeeeeeek! Our perfect, shy, cute, innocent Tara! Neither perfect nor so innocent now after this episode. What oh what could be the reason why she sabotaged that spell? Poor Domi, your face fell so hard when it finally clicked what Tara did. Still, my first time watching through, I didn't let it get me down. Nobody got hurt, right? It was fun. So many crazy things happened this episode. Still lots more fun to come too.

Ron Fehr

I remember that Jordan. Floppy Disk Dude. Haha

Good example of foreshadowing; the soldiers being on drugs was hinted all the way near the start of the season, where Spike tells Harmony to eat one & she refuses because "he tastes funny" & that vampires can taste things in the blood has been a point elsewhere multiple times - and even in the previous episode there was the bit with him "taking his vitamins". My take on the Tara/Willow as witches (keeping it to what's been revealed so far) is that Tara has been practicing a lot longer so while she may not have as much raw power, she has a lot more experience & understanding, while Willow is still new to things & has been stated (by Tara) to have a lot of power, but she's still seeing it far more as just a way of doing cool stuff without necessarily realising what she might be getting herself into.

UTU49

It's really fun to watch you experience the twists and turns of a season. Love your love for Tara.
