Despite what the thumbnail might look like this time... I am not a rockstar.

But also... Absolutely no comments about this episode. None. JUST FEELS. Bangel reunion again when? Cause I already miss them.

What breaks me about the last Bangel conversation is that Angel REMEMBERS the events of "I Will Remember You" so fuck you twice, Buffy, for how you spoke to him!!>^<#

When they were called “the Council’s elite”, you didn’t think they looked the part. In “Who Are You?”, over in Buffy, you seemed to think that, if they were from the council, they ought to be stuffy, tv-trope British types. Here you seemed to think they should be cooler-looking, movie-trope types (maybe James Bond villains). But, in reality, they’re thugs and their look is probably more realistic than most such assassins and wet-work specialists. I loved that you noticed Faith’s slight smile at the end. I’ve seen this episode maybe 15 times but never noticed it before. I agree with you that these two episodes of Faith, in Angel, are as good as all the best Buffyverse episodes. As much as I like the series, Angel, there is only one more episode that is up there with the best in BtVS (“A Hole in the World”). This isn’t a slam on this series but a tribute to BtVS. Very few episodes of *anything* are up there with the best of Buffy.

Steve Quast

Such an amazing episode, as was the last one. The exchange between Angel and Wesley in the beginning is so good because you can see both sides and you can't help but sympathize with Wesley.

AlyAdmirer

The reaction to Buffy and Angel punching each other NEEDS to be the YouTube thumbnail... :-)

Ron Fehr

I gotta say that I think Buffy was in the wrong when she would not allow Faith to apologize. While she has the choice whether or not to forgive her, Faith should at least have the opportunity to say that she was sorry. In my upbringing, people who are truly sorry for what they've done have the right to apologize. The person who was offended can either accept it or not, but should allow the offender a chance to reform.

HuntingSwan

What an episode! So jam packed with characters, yet it all comes together really well. I feel so bad for Faith and I wish she and Buffy could have had more time together to understand each other and be best friends/true loves as the universe demands it to be!

Steve Quast

So how many lawsuits are we up to now against the writers for their evil heart-breaking scenarios?

zerofk

Such accurate predictions again :-D I love how serious this episode is, and Wesley in particular. We've seen hard topics in the Buffyverse before, but they're often softened with jokes. This is the first time I can remember where a topic is allowed to be this serious for nearly the whole episode. Yes there are a few jokes, but overall it's much less lighthearted than we're used to.

Veronika

It was very hard not to mention anything last episode because you were so adamant that Bangel reunion is just not happening and I did not dare to ruin that! The timing could not be more perfect with the IWRY nostalgia. Your reaction to seeing SMG was so heartbreaking. The writers so deserve to get their a*ses sued... but I freaking love this episode! So many great character developing moments from Faith and Wesley, we get more scenes with our lawyer bad guys, Bangel and Fuffy reunion and last but not least, Kate! Sadly we did not get much Cordelia this episode but since there was already so much going on I understand why she wasn't involved. I just wish we would've seen Buffy and Cordelia interact a little. Oh well...regardless, such a brilliant episode and your reaction to it was even better and more heartbreaking than I could've imagined. btw. you totally are a rockstar! The thumbnail is on point <3

It's always interesting watching your reactions because they are so good! Although, we come at it from much different perspectives. I'm not at all a Bangel fan and in the argument between Buffy and Angel, I absolutely saw it from Buffy's perspective. Buffy did so much to try and be Faith's friend during Season 3. To then be betrayed so many times. But even after Faith woke up from the coma, Buffy's first instinct was to try and think about how Faith could be rehabilitated. However, Faith immediately turns around and holds her mom hostage and sleeps with Riley in order to inflict maximum pain on Buffy. That was so much more painful to Buffy than any battle she's been in - as she said, no one had ever made her a victim before. So, of course she's stunned to see Angel with Faith when it immediately reminds her how Faith slept with Riley. It's a nice tie in to what Angel said prior to Buffy's entrance, that just because you say sorry, that doesn't mean the scales automatically balance out all the evil actions that took place before. Faith murdered multiple people and tortured and assaulted others, which is why Buffy said she needs jail. In the end, ironically, it was Faith that understood that Buffy was absolutely right - turning herself in was the only way to truly begin the redemption process.

I'm setting the over/under on the length of the post-episode discussion at the same length as the episode itself 😏

Loves Bitca

There's something sweet about watching Domi try to flirt with Cordellia through the screen.

UTU49

About your lack of accurate predictions. Give yourself some credit. The Buffyverse is nearly impossible to predict. Trying to predict the Buffyverse is like trying to put a leash on the ocean.

Molly Willis

I've seen this episode so many times and I noticed something new this time. I wonder if there's any meaning to the clips that were shown while Faith was watching TV? It's always been hinted that Faith came from an abusive background and the clips are, in order: a man hitting his (wife? presumably) > Superman (becoming the Slayer) > Faith's arrest warrant on TV.

Loves Bitca

It's somewhat a minor moment, but I do really love how Wes expresses that he trusts Angel so completely. And it comes across so real that he is more than just working for Angel, but is in this because he does so fully trust and believe in Angel. And it's a nice turn since on Buffy he was very much supporting the Watchers council 100%, and against Angel and only begrudgingly accepted him because he had a soul. Until his final Buffy episode at least.

Loves Bitca

I think at this point Wesley wouldn't go back to the council, but he didn't realize it until this point. There was a time when that was all he wanted. And he only now, being offered the chance realizes that he's right where he should be.

UTU49

Among other amazing things in this episode... there are NINE important guest stars in this episode. NINE!!! !!! !!! Faith, Buffy, Kate, the 3 lawyers, and the 3 operatives from the Watchers' Council. Five of those guest stars also appeared in the Buffy 2-parter with Faith. The Buffyverse is wild. The characters and their circumstances regularly go through substantive changes.

@budhaven sure I will remove if it bothers you...but i wasn't "predicting" what domi has seen. She literally says on her twitter and youtube that she's watched the s4 finale and wanted questions for her wrap up video.... But anyways, will delete

Milan W.

For the record Rupert "Ripper" Giles is a badass! 😤 The librarian tweed is just a costume to hide the former demon summoning guitar playing juvenile delinquent. The only true nerd watcher we've seen is Wes. Also, yes her name is pronounced E-lye-zuh.

Vicky N

Buffy gave every opportunity to Faith in the past only to have it backfire on her. There’s only so much even Buffy can endure and it’s understandable, in my opinion, that she would react that way.

Vicky N

Perfectly said.

Vicky N

Definitely deliberate.

Ron Fehr

I agree with your last statement Vicky. My only point is that Faith had every right to apologize, since she was truly sorry. After seeing what Faith did at the end of the episode, perhaps eventually their friendship (if that's the right word to use) will start to mend.

Jordan Haddow

Superb reaction to a superb episode. It's such a painful one, but I absolutely loved it the first time I watched it. Honestly, I was so angry when they had Faith go bad in season 3. It seemed like such a raw deal for her. Her life was absolute garbage before she became the slayer, it was the one really good thing she had in life. Then Buffy and her just kept missing connecting on any great level through poor timing (stupid writers). Then, she even loses that by turning dark. So, when this episode comes along and she finally gets back on track, I was so happy. I mean she's in prison, which isn't great, but like you pointed out, that smile is everything. She's managed to, maybe not find peace, but a path to peace. Too bad they had to write Buffy as being so confrontational. I kind of get it, but it always felt out of character for Buffy to me. Anyways, I'm so glad you loved it.

zerofk

I go back and forth about Buffy's attitude in this episode. On the one hand she has every right to be angry, and the way she walked in on Angel and Faith hugging has to be hard. On the other I agree with you that it feels very sudden and somewhat out of character. This Year's Girl ended with a very pensive look on Buffy's face - hurt, yes, but also apparently thinking about Faith's words and what that would mean for Faith.

Jordan Haddow

Exactly. Also, she came across as way too petty in my books. Especially her interaction with Angel at the end. She went for the jugular specifically to hurt him. Especially saying how she trusts and knows Riley even though she's only known him for a short time and implying that she doesn't know or trustw Angel. Talk about a low blow. I get that she's mad at Faith over Riley and yes, her walking in on them hugging was insane, but I just mostly think they totally wrote it wrong. I would expect her to be angry and torn, but not petty. Even Wes really. I believe that he should go from supporting Faith's recover to wanting retribution for torturing him, but the way they set it up, it kind of came across as being flip floppy. Not to say I could write it better, but it just came across as clunky and not well formed. Still, overall such a great episode.

Rey

Buffy being petty isn’t really out of character. We have seen her negative side with “When She Was Bad”, when she became too competitive with Cordelia for prom queen in season 2. She can be mean if she is pushed to a state of anger. As for Wesley being flip floppy, I don’t think he is. He had the right to be fuming after what Faith did to him. It’s very human to let anger fester and influence your behavior and way of thinking, even if temporarily.

Domi E

I actually totally see both of your sides! So much nuance to this show!

Domi E

Probably anywhere from 5 to 500,000!

Domi E

That’s such a great point!! They really went down a serious route and yet it worked so well!!

Domi E

Aw thank you V! Yes I have to say Buffy/Cordy scenes would have been soooo great but hey, I’ll take what I can get haha

Domi E

Oh I totally see what you mean, you’re so right!! Buffy has given her a million chances to redeem herself and Faith just keeps hurting her, it makes sense at a certain point she’s just need to stop trying to get through to her!

Domi E

This comment made me laugh out loud 😂

Domi E

Omg! That really is crazy!!

Steve Quast

Glad we have that narrowed down.

Jordan Haddow

True, but those examples come with a lot of setup doe how such behaviour is outside Buffy's character. In 2x1, she was suffering PTSD and was acting self destructively because of the trauma of dying. In 3x5, Buffy is still dealing with the emotional fallout of killing Angel and losing practically everything in her life, (her mom kicking her out, expelled from school, her leaving her friends because she put them in danger). She may have reunited with everyone, but it's still awkward, and now, somehow Angel is back, she's lying about it, and that threatens to tear her relationships apart all over again. On top of that, she now faces the, at this point in the show, probable need to kill Angel again. Then Cordwkia is the straw that broke the camel's back by not telling Buffy about the class pictures, which just adds to her feeling of still being alienated from her normal life by bring thr slayer. Then we have this episode. True, a while back Faith slept with Riley, but still, at the end the episode she had witnessed Faith's attempt to kill herself and how disturbed she was. The look on Buffy's face wasn't anger but more pity. Then she walks in and sees Angel hugging Faith. Yes, I believe that could make Biffy angry, but I don't think it would elicit the same level of self destructive ar exasperated emotions that 2x1 and 3x5 had setup for them. As for Wes, I know he had the motivations for flipping around. I don't argue that. Also, I don't think they could have done much to make it better. I think it boils down to feeling clunky because they had so little time allotted to him. I'm glad they didn't because the other parts of the show would have suffered for it.

Henrik Holst

Buffy was far to hurt to even contemplate hearing an apology from Faith. You don't fuck some ones life over the way Faith did and then just "oh I'm sorry", so her attempt at an apology came way way to early. All IMHO of course.

Henrik Holst

I think that you are on to something, that where not some random clips that they showed there. The first one is from The Lost Weekend about an alcoholic writer and not so far fetched to believe that there where some alcoholic abuser in Faiths life.

Ron Fehr

The apology would probably have been too early, but I believe that Faith was truly sorry. It wouldn't have been just words to her. My point is just that she would have truly meant them. She had even expressed her guilt about it to Angel.

R J Walker (FumblesMcStupid)

A lot of people criticise Xander in Revelations, but didn't he basically walk in on Buffy kissing somebody who had done people terrible harm and he didn't know if it was good or bad Angel. I'm no Xander apologist, but it seems very similar. I know they're not exact parallels but they're close. Buffy reacted more like Xander typically does and less like her normal, forgiving self. I quite like it tbh, because nobody is perfect and she was shocked when she walked in and saw them. To quote Xander "Yeah. Seeing you kissing him, after everything that happened… leaned me toward the postal."

litafanforlife

Faith has done some horrible stuff to Buffy and Buffy has every reason to be resentful of her but I still wish she reacted differently. As rough as that last scene with Buffy and Angel was and I hate that Buffy rubbed Riley in Angel's face, that's still coming from love from Buffy. She tried to hurt him because she still loves him and he's been trying to look out for Faith. These two people still love each other and that brutal scene enforced that to me... Now my Bangel loves aside, I was just so proud of Faith! I love her character and it was really something to see her turn herself in. She made her decision to do better.
