Great comments. Similar to things I thought. I am straight, so I couldn’t be sure I got it. And, as Willow says later about her coming out, “That's when I knew. And it wasn't women, it was woman. Just one.”

Angel showing up was not random. At the end of Sanctuary, Wes asks Angel if he wants to go after Buffy. Angel says yes. Just as Buffy showing up in Angel was not random. She knew Faith was there. Actually, it was kind of her duty (plus she was concerned for Angel). When Angel says that he doesn’t like Riley, it isn’t meant as anything beyond letting Buffy know that he still cares enough about her to be jealous. I think the two of them conveyed that perfectly in their acting. That’s why Buffy responds “thank you”. Riley is not so much “not trusting Buffy” or, at least, that is not his natural, first response. He thought Angel had gone bad, not knowing what to compare it to, and he had just found out what triggered Angel – “sex with Buffy”. I don’t think there is any bad boyfriending going on here. Personally, I’m a huge Riley fan. Many people don’t like him because they find him too “boring”. Or that he doesn’t have chemistry with Buffy. He does and you’ve been good at noticing it. He isn’t “boring”, but the contrast between him and Spike and Angel is an important part of Buffy’s coming to terms with her romantic life.

Oh, the Watching of the Forriley, a rite of passage celebrated by reactors all around the world since the Old Times (that'd be 4-5 years ago lol)! Cheers!

HuntingSwan

1h 42 mins!!!! Domi this why I adore you with all my heart! <3

HuntingSwan

OH GURL, you ain't crazy! There are whole academic papers related to the symbolism of Buffy's hairdos!

Steve Quast

You're right about the writers. That's exactly what they're doing. To be fair, if I were them, I'd be doing the same thing. 😜

Steve Quast

Jenny Calendar at 3:30! Huzzah!

Steve Quast

It's okay that you forgot about Riley. I think that's normal lol. Xander and Riley do have an interesting friendship. Xander is normally very antagonistic towards anyone who has a potential romantic connection to Buffy. But Xander is with Anya now. So there's that.

Steve Quast

16:38 Jenny strikes again!

Okay, crazy hair theory. Interesting. I guess if Domi ever gets curly hair she might've switched bodies with her sister. Spike is so good at pushing just the right buttons. And he's even better at making it sound natural; for example while talking to Giles it feels like he's just there about the files while at the same time he's manipulating Giles into doubting his relationship with Buffy. And he does that in each of the conversations with the scoobies. Genius, really. Both Riley and Angel piss me off in this episode. I'm not their biggest fan as is, and here it just feels like they went all-out macho alpha male guy. Blah.

Just gonna drop this here: ASH has a brother named Murray who had a hit song in the 80s (one hit wonder) called "One Night in Bangkok". Video available on you tube if anyone is interested in it.

Fascinating predictions for the next upcoming episodes. No spoilers, but the many ways in which you are completely wrong are really interesting.

And surprise! More Bangel feels! Another special gift from Joss to you! I gotta say, for a human Riley did a pretty good job fighting against Angel.....at first. So on the previous Angel episode, Buffy makes an appearance and doesn't exactly display her best side. Now on Buffy, Angel shows up and he acts like a jerk. I guess they need to stay on their own shows for the time being lol. Spike is truly good at stirring up strife out of the evilness of his heart. But, as you said in your reaction, those feelings and circumstances were already there. They had been building all season. Spike just took advantage of it. Even though he can no longer hurt them physically, it still gives him some satisfaction hurt them in other ways. Your comments about Riley at the end were very interesting, for reasons which you know now, having seen the season finale at this point. All in all, not the greatest episode, but it's alright. Season 4 is a mixed bag and not my favorite season and, in my opinion, we're already passed the best episodes. Still, Giles singing and Giles being drunk are two more highlights worth mentioning in closing. Even when Buffy is bad or somewhat mediocre, it's still partially good.

So, in what I assume may be an unpopular opinion, I feel Buffy has given Riley reasons to doubt/distrust her. Buffy is, to spin it in the best way, guarded when it comes to Riley, specifically when it comes to her past with Angel. When Buffy just got back from LA, Riley tries to talk about Angel with her, but she evades the conversation. When Faith woke up, Buffy explained who Faith was, but completely omitted Angel. When she felt like it was appropriate to talk about Angel, she omits how the curse was triggered, leaving Riley to find out from Xander. Buffy repeatedly lies by omission, and then she and watchers are surprised that Riley doesn't completely trust her. Communication is so important to a functioning relationship, and I do feel these issues started with a lack of it from Buffy.

Here's a weird thought that is totally unrelated to this episode. It suddenly struck me that you remind me of Drew Barrymore. It's so strong, that I'm surprised it took me so long to realize it consciously. Some of your facial features and mannerisms remind me of Drew Barrymore. Sooo... crazy ep, right? Wall-to-wall angst.

UTU49

This ep certainly shows Angel and Riley acting like jackasses. I think it's just because they're people. People suck. When we're at our worst, we suck.

CeNedra

I get just as excited about Domi's predictions as I do about her reactions 😍

CeNedra

Back again.. 4 mins in.. Never heard of the Beatles Domi? 😂😂😂

Bud Haven

She just doesn't know their lore. 😂

Bud Haven

Nobody rocks a gaping head wound like the Buff. lol

I was definitely surprised by Riley's appearance at the very end, but I don't remember thinking about betrayal. It just didn't look like an option to me, after seeing how vehemently he was trying to defend Buffy when he thought Angel had gone bad again.

KT

I feel like the way Willow came out to Xander and Giles is something you'd see in a show in 2021 more than 2000. It's just a part of the conversation. Xander makes a comment about it but it's not momentous or dwelled upon, it's presented as fact. I think queer media is a little too saturated with coming out stories as the central focus, especially back then. Which, don't get me wrong, I love a good coming out story, but for a long time there wasn't much diversity in the way they were presented. It gives uninformed audiences (including young queer people) the impression that coming out has to be a big sit-down heart-to-heart, and a lot of the agency has to be given to the person being told, as they have the power to accept or reject them. Having it be a throw away line that Xander and Giles just have to process on their own provides an alternative model to coming out that can be better for some people irl. I also kind of appreciate that not a lot of space was given to what the men specifically think about Willows sexuality, even if what they think is positive overall. Its kind of amazing that the male gaze did not enter that argument once.

Antonio

I'm sure she'd like Helter Skelter.

KT

It's also interesting and kinda lovely that in both scenes, coming out has been framed in terms of Tara, not sexuality. "It's complicated... because of Tara." "You can't handle Tara being my girlfriend." Rather than "You can't handle me being [insert queer label here]." She doesn't have to have it all figured out, she just knows she loves Tara and so that's what she presents to her friends.

Ron Fehr

I saw Shan's video when she first posted ForRiley. I think I told her, like I'm telling you now, that I never got that impression. If there was any attraction, I think it was on Forrest's part, because I never saw or her Riley say anything hurtful about him. To me, Riley just looked at him as a friend.

Domi E

awwww 🥺❤️i love you!

Domi E

this really makes me so relieved haha

Domi E

sir there is no need to count, this will be embarrassing for me

Domi E

haha happy to be entertaining with the foolery 🤡🤡

Domi E

that actually does make a lot of sense! i hadn’t thought about it that way because we know the truth but from an outside perspective she really just has been lying a lot

Domi E

omg i’m flattered? hahaha

Domi E

aww ❤️❤️❤️😭

Domi E

wow KT you bring amazing points!!! i had totally never thought about this and i think you’re so right. that really is wonderful. i think i’m growing to appreciate that storyline/moment even more now ❤️

Antonio

I don't know how you managed to miss DB's name in the credits, but congrats if you did! There are versions out there where anyone's name who is potentially spoilery is blurred out, so I'm not sure if it's worth considering for future episodes.

Domi E

I haven’t read the credits ever since the very beginning of S2. As of right now I’ve been dragging it out of my screen (I push it all the way down until it’s off screen) so I don’t accidentally see it. I have thought about the blurry versions I’m just not sure how reliable they are/where to find them

Antonio

Oh that's actually a good idea - your reaction to seeing Angel was all the better for not knowing he was going to be in it!

Loves Bitca

Good deal. The credits can be a bit spoilery at times. I've seen reactors that cover them with their hands, and some that are just very good at focusing on the scenes and not even see them, but I can not be that focused like that.
