Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

As far as villains/threats go this one gets a meh from me. Probably not one of my favourites. But as often happens in this universe those episodes tend to get paired with some really great character stuff and that's always an interesting time. Plus we really get to lean into Lorne and his abilities and he's just so fun. A genuine scene-stealer. Edit: I absolutely would have believed you, math is evil.

Steve Quast

For having the word "Happy" in the title, this is one of the most depressing episodes in the Buffyverse.

Antonio

I feel like my Portugese has improved somewhat whilst watching Domi's reactions. Although I think it's only swear words I'm picking up so far... :o)

Ron Fehr

The writers must have heard you, Domi. After your little outburst, no more jump scares.

Richard Ashton

Firstly - (Uses Tony Stark voice) - I AM Curmudgeonly Father. Seconly - the book Lorne hides behind... I had it at one time when I was woefully attempting to learn Russian back in the 80s.

Ron Fehr

Angel trying to atone for all his evil deeds. I can't start discussing it with out becoming theological. And I'm sure this isn't the forum for that. So I'll just keep my thoughts to myself.

Richard Ashton

The next episode's title alludes to a line from Rudyard Kipling's poem "Tommy", from Barrack-Room Ballads, in which he calls British foot soldiers "the thin red line" in the Battle of Balaclava, Crimea War (25 October 1854). I wasn't there, I looked it up.

Ron Fehr

If you're ever in the mood for laughs galore, then watch the movie Clue. It is based on the board game of course, which helps a little bit in understanding the movie.

GenU

This is one of my least liked episodes of Angel but I'll gladly watch it again because, hey, it's with Domi.

Khanach

“I just want Angel to be happy!” Yeah, that’d end well 🤣

Stargazer1682

I always forget this episode exists when it comes up in reactions. Or maybe I just try to forget it exists...

Demnevanni

ah yes, it's the episode where we are supposed to feel sorry for the guy who essentially tried to murder-suicide his girlfriend to stop her from leaving him... Srsy, the Angel-Lorne scenes are pretty much the only thing keeping this episode from being an easy "worst-AtS-episode" pick imho...

Ron Fehr

An episode is an episode, people. Just watch it, and if you have nothing good to say, keep it to yourself.

Stargazer1682

It shouldn't be such an issue for me, what with this being a fantasy series and all, but the thing that bugs me is that the basic premise doesn't make sense. Like, what was the guy's plan, really? He sets up the machine to free him and his girlfriend in the middle of having sex, and... then...? Even assuming the field doesn't expand, obviously the machine's not going to keep working indefinitely. Someone's going to come look for one if not both of them if they go missing; the landlord and his electric company are going to have a few things to say when he doesn't pay his bills or rent. And even somehow barring that, inevitably there's probably going to be at least one blackout at some point that's going to knock out his device and they come out of stasis. But then, with the field expanding, the moment it expands to encompass the machine itself, it shouldn't be able to continue expanding; as the flow of power to the machine would effectively be cutoff. Just encompassing the machine should cause it to shutdown or fail.

Ron Fehr

There were obviously things that he didn't consider, almost like it was a crime of passion (probably not the best analogy).

Shaun Houghton

Just a reminder that the smartest people can do some of the dumbest things.

Shaun Houghton

Nothing is above due criticism. We can enjoy something whilst recognising its faults.

Ron Fehr

I realize your point, Shaun. I've just seen some comments lately that were annoying to me. I'm sorry for overreacting.

Bud Haven

Lorne has sung before on the show. If fact my favorite song of his was "Get Here" From 203 ""First Impressions"

Hosman

This was a weird episode for me. I felt like way too much time was spent on Gene Rainy (had to look up what his name was) and his coworkers. The writers tried to make his coworkers funny (especially the girl with the glasses) and it didn't work. She was just annoying with her attempted sarcastic jokes. This episode felt like a back door pilot or something lol. Plus his plan to stop time or whatever, to be in his bubble with his gf forever was just stupid. A million ways that was gonna fail. Totally agree with Stargazer1682 above. Besides, trapping your soon to be ex gf with you in a time bubble or whatever is all kinds of messed up in so many ways. He wanted to take her life away from her. What a total POS that guy is. On the plus side, there are funny moments with Lorne and Cordy looks amazing as usual

Hosman

I was thinking the same thing Stargazer. Just an all around dumb plan.

Steve Quast

Math isn't evil. It's misunderstood.

zerofk

Any reaction with Portugese swearing is a good reaction :-D

As for many others, this episode gets a "meh" from me. However I do love what Lorne says about music being about change. A single note, held too long, is indeed just noise or worse. The change is what makes it music. This, I feel, applies to many things. I think about that quote often.

Ron Fehr

This obviously wasn't the most entertaining episode, but it was necessary, I suppose, to further develop the characters. Like you said, Domi, being on their own helped give Cordy, Wes and Gunn a little more confidence in themselves. And Angel's conversation with Lorne gave us some insight into Angel's frame of mind.
