I like hearing your predictions, and I've seen other reactors do the same thing. Some of your predictions do come true, but they just sometimes take a while. I work today, so I'll have to watch your reaction later. But I'm sure that I'll enjoy it.

Giles told Buffy he would tell the council about glory looking for a key, because knowing what glory’s motives are could be helpful. But also said he wouldn’t let them know it was dawn

Ron Fehr

Well Domi. Your prediction was spot on. You knew that she would find out eventually. And of course she found out in the worst possible way. I suppose that in this case seeing your prediction come true was not a pleasant thing to watch. Although I don't see how it could have turned out much differently. Now matter how, it wasn't going to be pleasant.

I also only just realized that the title was (like many others) a double meaning. The blood ties not only being Dawn and Buffy, but Glory and Ben being revealed.

That's pretty cool that one of the clients of your job acted in the Buffyverse. Poor Dawn. This was definitely not the right way to find out. There is of course an adoption metaphor at play here. The scene with her holding the knife after cutting herself is heart breaking. The story line of fake memories comes up quite often in fiction. Obviously it's never happened to me, but the way I see it is that your feelings are what they are. Buffy and Joyce love Dawn, and regardless of the memories being fake, that feeling is now real. Also, props for Xander going after Glory with a crow bar.

I always thought and still think that yes that's the reason. Just the part about spelling out the exact identity was dumb. He could have easily documented and still been vague about that part. He could have mentioned the key without saying who or what it is. Just as he mentioned the key to the Watchers council but left out who/what it was.

Another amazing episode. Great acting by Sarah, Clare, and James. But especially Michelle, she was superb. The scene when Dawn cuts herself while still holding the knife gets me every time.

You may have missed Ben's references to "his sister". Ben was there with Dawn before Glory showed up... but I can't remember when he left... or why he left. Anyway, I love the information dump in this episode.

Ron Fehr

Thanks for revealing that. I hadn't thought of that.

It's a defining scene in her portrayal of the character. I know some people don't like her before this, but I looked at both the character and Michelle differently after that scene.

Ron Fehr

I love that Glory didn't recognize Dawn as the Key even when Dawn was right in front of her.

It is a function of the watcher to create a diary that explains what's going on and to include as many details about the slayer, her enemies, and her battles. Just go back to when Buffy gets staked in the stomach. She was sitting there with Giles reading through old watchers diaries and complaining they hadn't put enough details into them. In fact, when you really watch the sections of the episodes where they are researching books, most of the books they read from are written by people like the watchers chronicling everything they learn. They do it because they know one simple fact. The next battle may be there last. If they lose, someone will come to take up the fight and the better informed they are, the better. Keep in mind how vital research has helped the team through these years.

It kind of makes sense though, with that previous episode with the snake being. Part of the info they learned in this episode is that only beings with 2nd sight and such can see the key in its true form. So, when Glory created that snake beast to go find the key, it also betrayed the fact that Glory doesn't have second sight. So, while bwunf a god, we can see she does have limits.

When Domi asked why Dawn went to the hospital, I realized it was because she knew that any people in the psychiatric ward would probably have some answers for her.

One scene that has bugged me for a while has been just after Dawn cuts herself, and Giles offers to stay and help. Buffy tells him to leave, because it's an issue the family has to deal with. I never cared for this sort of snub of Giles because he's been her pseudo father for years and is pretty much as close as family can get. Heck, we just had the episode Family where Buffy declares each of them to be her family. As I've watched it though, I've come to see why they did it. It wasn't to snub Giles or imply he isn't family, but it was to show just how Buffy views Dawn now. Later in the episode, Buffy tells Dawn that she's a Summer's girl because she has Summer's blood. This scene between her and Giles though shows beforehand that those weren't just words she was feeding Dawn, but her genuine belief. Dawn is, in her mind, her blood sister, as close to her as her mother. Even closer to her than Giles, which says a lot.

I see what you did there....I guess it helps if we all get on board the amnesia train ;o)

Lorne, The Hulk, Kermit and now Dawn. It's not easy being green.

Ron Fehr

I don't know if I was the only one that noticed it, but when Glory spoke about the last time she saw it, she she referred to it as a ' shiny green shimmer'. And Dawn was wearing a green shirt at the time. Coincidence or intentional?

I'm absolutely aware of all that. Useless to post it as it ABSOLUTELY does NOTHING to counter what I posted. Post more useless information.

Writing notes is part of the scientific process. If he were to be unable to continue or even die then his successor will have a better starting point. That's why there are the watchers' diaries.

AND AGAIN!!!!! That doesn't mean that SPECIFICALLY identifying the thing they want secret as being Dawn, isn't not smart. If you believe that then you also have to believe that he should have told the Watchers council that Dawn is the key. And IF he thinks the knowledge is definitely safe because he hid it, and it couldn't possibly be found by the enemy, then it would also have to be thought that no one could find it to carry on. It could have easily just been referred to as the key, rather than pointing out it's Buffy's sister, which they want to keep secret.

Loves Bitca

I only just realized how not so smart it was for Giles to even write that stuff down, clearly outlining that the Key is Buffy's sister. He should be smart enough to protect information (that he's clear he wanted protected from everyone including the Scoobies and the Watchers at the time) even when you consider it unlikely they will find the information. Forget Dawn and Spike, there's always the chance no matter how slim, that writing something like that down could allow Glory to find out. He and Buffy knew who the key was, why bother writing it down when you DON'T want to share the information with anyone. For his own thought process of working out the information he still could have left out spelling out the exact idenitity as he himself would still know when he's going over his notes.

UTU49

"Am-nee-sia". That sounds really familiar. I'm sure I've seen that word before somewhere. I can't remember what it means, though.

Loves Bitca

So then it would have been smart for him to tell the Watchers council that Dawn i s the key.

Ron Fehr

The only reason that I can think of as to why he would be so specific is for future watchers to read, should that become necessary. Even then, future watchers wouldn't really need to be given quite that much information. I can't see how knowing the key's identity would helpful.
