Yes. They're just picky.

Ron Fehr

I like watching both because I like hearing Domi's comments, and not just for the individual episodes. If people want to support her, they should watch both.

Domi E

angel really is great!! and aw thank you ron but don’t worry about it, it’s totally normal that buffy normally has more watchers!

I remember how you vaguely remember parts of seasons 3-5, so I didn’t know if you knew about Wes getting shot. This made my jaw drop when I first saw it

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Mostly I'm just going for the lols but I honestly do think Angel stands just fine on it's own and dare I even say is every bit as good as Buffy. Having said that I get that other folks aren't as into it as I am. Watch whatever makes you happy, man.

Yay Anne is back. Since Blood Money we know she's been running a shelter and now we actually see her interact with the kids. And then we see her fighting zombies. She has come such a long way since Lie to Me. And she knows Gunn, that's cool. On another note: I know it's Angel's show and all but I kind of wish the others had solved this problem on their own, without Angel doing it behind the scenes (so to speak). It would have strengthened two current themes: Angel's darkness and the others being able to take care of themselves. As it is I feel those themes were somewhat diluted.

Kimberly Bellow

Hey, I just noticed you labeled this 1-14 instead of 2-14 😉

Domi E

OMG!! Thanks honey. Just changed it haha.

The Thin Red Line was a military action by the Sutherland Highlanders red-coated 93rd (Highland) Regiment at the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854, during the Crimean War. In this incident, the 93rd, aided by a small force of Royal Marines and some Turkish infantrymen, led by Sir Colin Campbell, routed a Russian cavalry charge.

I've never really felt Gunn to be out of character here (except for stopping the ambulance at the shelter, putting everyone at risk - dumb move my guy). He's quite proud, and doesn't like depending on others for help. We've also seen him to be very strict and confrontational with his crew, this felt kinda similar. That being said, I think he believed them and just felt pushing was the best way to be certain. As for Angel, he clearly feels bad and perhaps questions his choice, but he doesn't want the team to A) stand in his way B) get hurt. So he pushes them away. He probably tells himself it's only to protect them, but in reality it's more the fact that it's easier to do what he feels he needs to without his friends echoing his own conscience back at him. With them gone, it's easier to push that conscience down.

She wasn't in the credits because she had no lines.

Ron Fehr

It just irks me sometimes Domi.

Ron Fehr

Yes, it's a shame. It would have been nice to have at least a line or two.

Stargazer1682

Gunn does know these kids at the shelter, at least many of them, or at least their reputation and that's the point. He says it himself, Anne is trusting and gives them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps a little too easily. She's not necessarily a pushover, but Gunn knows that if it were in any of their best interest , they could very well be feeding Anne a line of bull about being harassed by cops to an unusual degree, for whatever reason. Maybe because one or more of them were hiding out from law enforcement for some other reason and didn't want Anne to say anything. Gunn may have been leaning towards believing them, but he's been in an authority position with people like this, which makes him distinctly qualified to know that they may not be necessarily telling the authority figure at the shelter the full truth.

The title “the thin dead line” is a play on the phrase “the thin blue line.” The thin blue line refers to the police (the police are “the blue” because they often wear blue uniforms) and they are known as that because they are that line that protects society from violence. The irony this episode shows is that sometimes they are the source of the violence.

Count me in as one of the ones that watches Angel as well. I love all things Buffyverse.

Ron Fehr

I find myself more like Anne, in that I would probably be wanting to believe the kids. I might be a little suspicious like Gunn, but I wouldn't openly say anything, at least not the way he phrased it.

Paul Komoroski

People don't watch the Angel reactions?!

Stargazer1682

I don't see how Gunn's interaction with his old crew is all that out of character. For one thing, more than anything, it's intended purpose is to show that he's fallen out of touch with them (and the circumstances they've been facing) while he's been busy with Angel Investigations. He's been so preoccupied, he had no idea this stuff with the cops was going down, when people he had worked with had. This is part of the animosity; they feel like he's abandoned them and he takes offense at that, but I don't understand your saying that he's putting people at risk reacting this way or by telling them "don't do me any favors". None of them knew what was actually going on, they had no idea at that time that the problem was supernatural. I think it's also high unlikely that Gunn expected to resolve the issue in a single night. So far as he knew, these were just everyday cops abusing their authority. His plan was to get hard evidence of this and go through some sort of channels, which was going to take time. He was hoping to help people long term, but wasn't throwing on his bat-suit and swooping off to stop the Joker and telling the Justice League to stay home. if anything, if his old crew legitimately had issues with him, that would potentially pose a problem to the larger plan if they started getting into a fight while out on the street; and arguably telling someone not to be on a street where there was a known threat is sound advice. It admittedly makes it riskier for him, since if he goes alone and things get out of hand Gunn could have been badly hurt or killed, but he's still putting his own life in harms way regardless and his old buddies joining him is just a question of whether or not they're risking their lives too. But short of them running into someone who was being proactively threatened, they weren't going on patrol, where their objective is protect people or immediately stop threats. And they pretty much demonstrated they couldn't have if they tried, given what happened to Wesley.

Ron Fehr

I recall Shan from AfterShowReacts saying that she was not a zombie fan. I'm fairly certain that this was probably one of her least favorite episodes.

Steve Quast

I love both shows. The Buffyverse is just amazing. If I had to choose I would give Buffy a slight edge over Angel, but they're both damn good.

Ron Fehr

Jackson was the one person that the police would have been justified in apprehending. Aside from that, it would have been nice if they understood the situation better. A man was shot, and they police should give a darn that he survives, especially since he did nothing to warrant getting shot. Also, they were attacking a homeless shelter. Have some feelings, guys! The people have nowhere else to go. Like Wes getting shot, the shelter poses no threat, and neither do most of the people inside. They're trying to change their ways.

Kimberly Bellow

No worries! I thought I had my seasons crossed for a minute lol.

Veronika

Yay, I had finally caught up with your current reactions and I can't believe that it's already a year since you've seen IWRY! Time flies...regarding this episode, I really love this one and appreciate it for how it tried to portray the issues, which are sadly still present. As a non-American, I can not judge this episode based on its accuracy because this is not something that happens on a regular basis where I live. But from what I know of the problem and from what I heard from other reactors, I think the writers did a pretty good job.

Cathy Gillies

Another Angel fan here. I would never miss one of your Angel reactions.

Ron Fehr

I recall her watching the pilot episode, but I didn't realize that she watched more of it.

Anitusar

Finally catching up and I am also proud of you for not being crazy. That is an achievement :)
