Team Bangel 👍🏽

Forever -- AKA the episode that took "forever" to post....... I kid, I kid. Don't hate me. 😎

Stargazer1682

I love Giles listening to the song he played for Joyce in Band Candy. And Angel being there for Buffy. I will ship Bangel until the end of time.

Ron Fehr

Thanks for coming back to us Domi. Missed you.

Raven Dark

Just watching your intro talk to the reaction now and heard you mention putting on all the songs you like listening to about grief. I thought I'd say this before going on because if I wait until the end, I might forget. I don't know if you've ever heard the song "I Grieve," by Peter Gabriel, but it's one of my favorites. I had a friend pass away years ago, and this song helped me cope. There are two versions of it. Here's the longer one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ3wpjdYMqk Hope it helps. Giant hugs. We are here for you.

Ron Fehr

At times when you have trouble pressing play, I sometimes picture someone holding you down and doing it for you. It takes you a while sometimes, but you are always courageous enough to finally do it. Very admirable.

Ron Fehr

It only seemed fitting that Angel would show up, even if only for a while. This was an important moment in Buffy's life, and even though they couldn't be together, he still cared about her.

Raven Dark

Domi: No more crying. This show can't make me cry, *watches Forever* *Deadpan stare* Yeah, sorry 'bout that. I know this was hard on you, Domi, but you got through it. I'm so proud of you.

Bud Haven

If you're nervous to press the play button just imagine Buffy in her underwear. lol

Hosman

I am forever Team Bangel. Buffy and Angel will always love each other.

Steve Quast

The look on your face after the Buffy intro....we all felt that. I don't normally cry that much in this episode, but your crying made me cry more than usual, so.....thanks for that. 😜

Stargazer1682

So your focus on Giles drinking would suggest that you didn't actually pick up on the context of the scene. He wasn't drinking to cope with Joyce's death. He was listening to the song he played for her to cope with Joyce's death. Yeah, he was drinking too, but that was secondary to what was happening in the scene.

Mathias

Well, you got through it now. The next episode is much "easier" to watch. Maybe it helps to know that the Joyce actress wanted to leave the show after Season 3 (IIRC), and she only stayed on board because Joss told her that he planned to kill her off in Season 5.

Thomas Zajetz

In the seasons 6 and 7 Buffy aired on another network (UPN) than on seasons 1-5 and Angel 1-5 (WB), so crossovers were not permitted by the networks.

Shashank

Easily one of the best reactions to this episode I've seen. Your empathy for all the characters really comes across. Agree that last scene is one of the most meaningful in the show.

Aww sweetie... *big hug* This show really knows how to pull on the heartstrings. I love how adult Tara is, once again. To comfort Dawn she doesn't come up with stories or euphemisms. She says "you make a place for her in your heart" - a beautiful way to provide comfort without misleading or being patronising. And when Dawn says she wants to resurrect Joyce, Tara is firm in saying that would be wrong - unlike Willow who seems more intrigued by the possibility than put off by the idea.

Thomas Zajetz

Giles not only drinks, but he plays "Tales of Brave Ulysses" by Cream, the song he was listening to with Joyce in "Band Candy".

UTU49

I only watch Buffy reactors, because it helps clear out my sinuses. :/

Richard Ashton

Written and directed by Marti Noxon. I hope that's not going to happen again. And I thought W&D by Whedon was bad.

Bud Haven

Another exciting episode of Buffy the (fuck this show) Vampire Slayer. lol Whenever Buffy and Angel are together you can see the love between them. Even in The Yoko Factor when she is mad at him, she says you treat me like I'm just your ex. I think one reason, out of many, that she couldn't commit to Riley was that she knows in her heart that if she could be with Angel she would have dropped him in a minute. The end where it’s Dawn comforting Buffy, telling her it’s ok, is heartbreaking.

Ron Fehr

I can usually hold my own, but seeing someone else crying almost always gets me crying. This episode really brought out the tears, Domi, both yours and mine.

Devon Martin

loved, loved, LOVED your reaction to this ep ❤. Isn't it INSANE how a show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer can trigger such human emotion 🤌🤌...I remember watching this episode on a vcr recording over and over when it first aired, I was only a teen at the time...I'm in my 30s and have experienced grief like this and the show just does an amazing job poetraying this subject and your reaction is 100% on point...you are now heading into the final episodes of season 5, and I promise you they will not disappoint 💙 ❤

Ron Fehr

It seemed like Willow was only saying what she thought Tara would say. How wrong she was. I totally agree with your last comment, zerofk.

One thing that amazes me about Sarah Michelle Gellar is how different her crying scenes can feel depending on the situation. That even in season 5, she can convey a wholly new set of nuances with her crying, because this is a wholly new experience for Buffy. How difficult it is to get the words out. That mix of anger and despair and pleading, its so jarring because you've never really seen her like this. Other times in the series where Sarah cries in away you've never seen before: Nightmares Prophecy Girl Innocence Becoming Pt 2 Helpless Shadow

Loves Bitca

She just asked to take some time off earlier (that was part of why we didn't see too much of her for awhile), to visit with Family in Europe, a rather extended vacation. Joss told her that was fine, they could work around her, but told her she had to come back by season 5 because he was going to kill her.

Ron Fehr

Aside from what Spike told Dawn about why he was helping her, I think that in a way he wanted Joyce back too. Like he told Xander, "I liked the lady. She was the only one out of the lot of you that I could stand."

Bud Haven

Telling Domi there won't be any more crossovers is a spoiler. Please rethink this.

Shashank

also comedic crying in triangle 😂

Stewart Denew

Agreed, with the others there's always some other reason but she was the only one of them he considered a friend and wanted nothing else from her beside a buddy to sit and watch soaps with.

KT

That's another one!

The Value of Life

I was going to mention this exact song. A lot of Peter Gabriel's songs, especially his later work, are so deeply impactful. I had a close friend who committed suicide about 10 years ago. "I Grieve" and even more so "Whole Thing" really helped me work through the grief. Part of the reason for my user name.

Loves Bitca

"She always had a nice cuppa" I get the idea that there were many more times than we saw that Joyce and Spike sat down together and had a cup of coffee or hot cocoa and just chatted.

Ron Fehr

It's a nice thought. I love the idea of Joyce and Spike being friends, especially after the first time they met, at the school.

Jeffrey

It’s my favorite scene in the episode
