hi friends,

it’s that time again… and you know the drill!!

please leave your season 5 questions in the comments below, and i’ll be answering them in my s5 q&a vid (which is a patreon exclusive!!).

i don’t know when i’m recording this (maybe this weekend?), so i’d recommend sending in your questions sooner rather than later. i’ll only record/read the comments after i watch the finale though, so don’t worry about 5x22 spoilers.

i will make a separate post for angel s2 questions sometime soon :)

You spent the first half of the season waiting for the story to "turn" or reveal which of the various plots and themes raised the show was eventually going to head down (ie Dawn, Glory, Ben, Joyce's sickness, Spike's feelings for Buffy, theme of family, etc). When do think you realized the show was actually going in all of these directions at the same time from the very beginning and they are all integral parts of the season? In season 1-3, we had the library. But season 4 kind of lacked a "scooby base". What do you think of the Magic Box as a new set for this season, and the effect it's had on Giles & Anya? Were you surprised that the university setting was mostly sidelined after just one season?

1) You commented "definitely enjoying all this pain", with regards to S5. (On your 5x05 reaction on youtube). I'm curious to what extent you actually mean that, if at all? To me, a show's ability to evoke emotions is what sets it apart - what makes it art instead of mere entertainment. I think the pain of this season is a part of what makes the show stay relevant today. A part of the reason I keep rewatching it even after twenty years. That said, I understand not everyone are like me. So... 2) Obviously there's two more seasons to go. But where we currently stand, do you think you will want to rewatch Buffy at some point in the future? Or do you think all the things you like about the show will be overshadowed by memories of the trauma depicted?

Are you surprised that we haven't seen or heard about any of Buffy's grandparents, especially in light of Joyce's storyline this season?

Prior to her breakdown, do you think Buffy was so obsessed with beating Glory that she didn't even consider just keeping her too preoccupied to perform the ritual in time? Or do you think it only occurred to her after Willow brought her back? Here's a thought. Perhaps Buffy should thank Anya for changing Olaf into a troll. Otherwise she wouldn't have had his hammer to use against Glory.

Wouldn’t you say Giles’ home was the “Scooby base” for Season 4? A lot of their meeting up, plan making and researching happened there. Although I think the intention was to not have an “official” place due to the whole theme and situation of loss of connection and falling apart between the core four.

That’s it! I mean really, what is the point of watching anything if you don’t interact deeply with it? And as such learn many strong and substantial things from it? It’s when it hits hardest when IT. HITS. HARDEST. If you’re not here for that, what exactly do you get out of watching it besides just… watching it? Where’s the substance? It’s such an empty experience to just look with your eyeballs and not SEE anything from it, listen with your eardrums and not HEAR anything in it, and to touch with your heart and not FEEL anything hit it. You’re numb to your experience in just sitting there watching but not taking the sensory information in. Fair enough if it doesn’t have that information in it. If it truly is bad or boring writing, acting, directing or producing. But if you’re calling it bad or boring based on the fact you don’t like it’s emotional ups and downs… then that’s a ‘you’ problem, my friend because you’re not receiving what is being sent. There’s some sort of intrusion or obstacle blocking you from getting out of it exactly what it deliverers. I could not just interact with a piece of art/entertainment be it in the format of visual, audial or written and just experience it as one over the other. I’m too much of an open space to not be filled with both. And I feel sorry for the people that are so closed off that no matter what they come to interact with, they feel numb to it and they remain as empty as ever. The whole point to being alive and conscious is to share and feed into each other our energy, information and love. Art/entertainment is everything.

Okay, kind of a silly question, but it happens to me every single time: Can you actually believe Riley was a main cast member for half this season?

What's your favorite monster of the week from this season? Dracula (1), Toth (3), Tara's wicked family (6), Glory's giant snake (8), the Queller demon (9), Olaf the Troll (11), April the robot and Warren (14), the Knights of Bizantium (20). I didn't include episodes where the primary antagonist/conflict is the big bad, a currently or previously recurring character or group, or a concept. That's why Harmony, Drusilla, Riley, and the Council weren't included.

This is not really a question more like a interesting fact. The First Five Seasons of Buffy aired on The WB. The Season Finale The Gift was not only the 100th episode of buffy but also the original series finale. Might also help explain the intro to the gift.
