Great episode and start to one of my favorite arcs in the series.

Loves Bitca

Wesley has grown so much, and become a great and confident leader. One brief conversation with his father and he doubts and second guesses himself and loses confidence.

Brendan O'Connor

Parents seem to know exactly what to say/do to make a person their most insecure, whether they realize it or not.

Loves Bitca

Definitely. And there's similar to a self fulfilling prophecy thing there too. His father calls him a failure (not in so many words, but questions him in such a way that does) which makes him fall into those habits that he had otherwise put behind him.

You keep mentioning some guy named Fred, who's that?

Ron Fehr

Yes, that's Fred. That's FRED! THAT'S FRED!! I never saw your expression change so fast. And the smile on your face was priceless.

Regarding why Gunn would choose to go with Angel Investigations over his old gang... well... Angel Investigations *is* paying him, it's his job. That probably held a lot of weight in his decision making.

"Belonging" refers to many of our characters. Of course there is Lorne who talks about not belonging when he grew up, and preferring L.A. Cordy questions if she actually belongs in the acting business. Gunn feels pulled in two directions, between his old crew and Angel inc. Wesley questions if he belongs in the leadership role after being put down by his father. Even Angel seemed to long for the simple black and white of Lorne's world (which is interesting since S2 is very much about exploring Angels grey area).

Ron Fehr

So wherever Cordy went, there are two suns. If it would have been in a desert, I would have guessed Tattooine from Star Wars. Lol

Honestly i feel like the fact that you have watched the show before but don't remember a lot of it will make for super interesting reactions, and different ones than other reactors, which is exciting ngl. And it already showed in this after episode talk, because the fact that you kind of know the big picture of the next episodes allowed you to focus on the character stuff more, which was delightful !! So yayyy for kinda-spoiled Domi reactions lol !!!!

Ron Fehr

A word of advice, Domi. I've seen a few reactors who watch things, usually movies, that they have seen before, and their reactions are still entertaining. Of the reactors that I've seen rewatching something, it's always been a long time since originally watching it. So I'm quite certain that, should you decide to watch Angel through to the end, your Angel reactions will still be enjoyable to watch. And your comments would still be interesting to hear.

Ron Fehr

In case you don't post next weekend, an early Happy Birthday Domi.

Kelly Walker

I think it would be fun to watch you go through them with the right context now. It’ll actually be a pretty unique perspective.

Thom Purdy

I definitely want to see you react to the rest of Angel! You'll get even more out of the ones you remember. There is so much in every episode, that many of those of us watching you react have seen these many times, and want to enjoy your reactions! You are a joy!

Ron Fehr

Also, now you'll find out how some of us feel, those of us who have to be careful not to spoil anything. We, now you included Domi, have to be cautious of first-time viewers who don't know future details.

Interesting side note, because I was curious about Angel complaining about the $19 appetizer - which still seems a little pricey (to me), but doesn't seem too out of whack for dining out now; especially in a fancy, seemingly upscale restaurant in LA. Adjusted for inflation, $19 in 2001 would be almost $32 today. Just for the one appetizer.

Stargazer1682

It must be so exciting to learn the host's name, after all this time! 🤣 🤣 Good thing no one spoiled it for you. 😏

I will for sure continue to watch your Angel reactions even though you’ve seen the episodes before. You will have so much more context going forward and there are more crossovers. Also, after the rough time you had with the end of Buffy this ending arc for Angel is a lot of fun IMO. It’s just what the doctor ordered

Stargazer1682

I've always found it funny that Landok can read the book to open the portal, which presumably used letters from the English alphabet with our contemporary pronunciations. But it just goes with the conceit that someone can come from an entirely different dimension *speaks* English...

Stargazer1682

No, 100% continue the watch order. I mean, I hate the Slay Alive order on principal, but you should definite continue watching Buffy and Angel together. I was in the same boat, where I didn't become a regular Buffyvserse viewer until late season 5 early season 4 of Buffy; and that was back when there was no streaming, I didn't get my first DVD player until almost a year later (won it at my class' senior night party...) and for some reason syndication seemed to skip season 1 and season 4 was too recent, that it was ages before I saw anything besides season 2, 3 or 5; much less everything in the right order. Basically, don't lose the momentum now; especially **IF OR HOW** anything may still tie back in with Buffy; stuff you don't know or you don't remember you've forgotten....

Stargazer1682

With Wes, don't forget that he's already had his adjustment period and *has* proven himself as a leader; which is why the group put him in that role. We've seen that, not just in "Guise will be Guise," but he also had a bit of a Sherlock Holmes-esque moment solving a big mystery case (even though we didn't get to see the case unfold). His hesitancy and indecision were entirely born out of the conversation he had with his father; which shook his confidence. That was completely the point. He called his dad up, in England, to wish him a happy birthday; and is legitimately excited to tell him the news about being put in charge, thinking he'd get his father's approval, only to be completely deflated and reminded of all his past failure. And we've gotten a sense from "I've Got Your Under My Skin," just how bad a relationship he has with his dad and where a lot of his insecurities come from.

Stargazer1682

Regarding the portal - the watch order isn't remotely the same as the original airing order. This episode aired the same night as Buffy season 5 "Tough Love," which is when Tara and Willow had their fight. This didn't even slightly line up with the Buffy finale. It's one of the major reasons I don't like the Slay Alive watch order.

Stargazer1682

Do you know where the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is from...?

Ron Fehr

Are you asking because you don't know, or are you just wondering if Domi knows? I'm guessing that it's the latter.

Stargazer1682

This would not be the page I'd seek answers to existential questions... ...No offense Domi.... 😏

The queen, the legend, Amy *freaking* Acker is finally here! You have no idea how much joy I have felt from your reaction when Fred popped up on the screen. I have to emphasize how much I need to see you react to the rest of Angel...I've been looking forward to it ever since I found your channel and I need it more than life. It is of course completely up to you and I will be here no matter your choice but I just had to say it.
