Oh no! Here we go. /HUGS!!! RIP Tara. Always and forever my favorite <3

Keenan White

Domi, the Buffy community is here for you whenever you need us, just remember that at the end of the day it’s just a TV show, and sometimes TV Dramas like these like to yank at our heart strings.

Girl4Music

Well damn. I didn’t expect this so soon. I hope you’re okay Domi. We’re all here for you. We’ve all been there.

Shaun Stacy

The biggest mistake in Buffy history killing her off. Atrocious. Not gonna lie, I wanted to stop watching as well after this season. Honestly, I only tuned in to season 7 just to see how everything would wrap up. This is where the greatness of the series died for me.

Girl4Music

The plural title is ‘Villains’ because it’s Willow and Warren. It’s exploring the theme of vengeance and deliberating on the question are you a villain if you kill a villain? We want Willow to kill Warren. But just because we want it doesn’t make it moral.

CeNedra

That reaction hit just as hard as the last one 😔 I hope you're doing okay 🏳️‍⚧️

Girl4Music

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a reactor cry as much as Domi does over Willow and Tara.

Ray D

The weirdest thing about this situation is that in real life, Amber Benson (Tara) was dating Adam Busch (Warren) at the time.

Captain Hammer

I kind of feel like Willow losing Tara was the real price from the universe for bringing back Buffy. A loved one for a loved one. And Warren wouldn't have been there if Buffy wouldn't have.

Henrik Holst

This isn't really bury your gays though since it wasn't done due to Tara being gay, before Seth Green decided to leave in S4 the plan was that he should be killed here. The goal was to set of Willow to the path that she is on now regardless of who she dated, not to show that gay couples never stay forever.

Khanach

The great thing for me about Tara and Willow in this show, is that they were just another normal, cute couple, no big fuss about it. And of course, just like all the other couples in the Buffyverse, they’re fucking doomed 😔 This is one of my favourite arcs of the show, but it’s still so hard to watch (I guess I could say the same about the whole season 6). Anyway, big hugs. Sharing the pain is supposed to make it better, right?

Henrik Holst

Exactly. I'm a bit bothered by the discussion that Xander, Buffy and Dawn have on that the human system is not perfect and Warren might not get what he deserves. I mean he is wanted for one attempted murder and one actual murder / felony-murder with witnesses at the scene so there is no doubt that he would be found guilty with at least life in prison and high chance of death penalty. No doubt.

Captain Hammer

I agree. And considering Joss threatened to quit the show if the studio wouldn't let Willow be gay, I doubt he was just trying to kill the gay characters for the sake of it.

Monique van Herpt

In a show about supernatural stuff, "natural tragedies" almost feel like a betrayal of some kind. As viewers we are prepared for almost anything; any kind of monster, any kind of demon - except for the kind that we are a little too familiar with ourselves. I remember watching this episode on TV when I was a 13 year old girl who was very much in denial about liking girls. Willow and Tara were the first queer couple I'd ever come across in a tv show/movie, and no matter how hard I tried to pretend that this part of me didn't exist - those two brought me some kind of peace in the background of that constant, daily struggle. Those two will forever hold a special place in my heart ♥ But no matter how shocked and utterly devastated I was when Tara died, I also remember how the whole thing felt almost "natural" to me in a way? As if the whole of season 6 had already been preparing me for this moment, without me even noticing it. Season 6 is pretty much all about 'life' being the Big Fucker. Depression, addiction, anxiety and stress, self-destruction, self-sabotage, (sexual) aggression, toxic/frustrated masculinity - it's all there. We viewers are just so focussed on whatever 'Big Supernatural Bad' gets thrown at us next, that we easily miss season 6's true "evil" - one that has been showing its face very clearly in every single episode: Life, and being human. No matter how much I hated what happened to Tara, for some reason it always felt somwhat fitting to me when you look at the season and its very obvious theme as a whole. Her death was grossly random, senseless, unnecessary and unfair - just like real life.

x_Rhi_x

I respectfully disagree that this is Bury Your Gays trope. Tara wasn't just brought into the show to kill her off. She was in it for 3 seasons. And it's not like only gay relationships end badly in this show. All of them do. Buffy staked Angel at the end of s2. Xander jilted Anya, which wasnt a death but still ruined their relationship. Spike did....that...to buffy...so while I agree of course that they shouldn't have killed Tara, i believe she had far more value as a character than just a storyline to kill off a gay character

PetraPlata

Unfortunately, they would need the murder weapon to fully accuse Warren even if there was witnesses. As for Tara, I don’t know how the justice system works if Warren “accidentally” k*lled Tara. The target wasn’t Tara. Just a messed up situation 😔

PetraPlata

I KNOW you are not blaming Buffy for warren’s actions. I KNOW. WARREN SHOULD HAVE LEFT BUFFY ALONE IN THE FIRST PLACE. she didn’t do shit to Warren. Just stop

Captain Hammer

Wow chill out. I'm not blaming Buffy. I'm saying if she was still dead the entire series of events would have been different in her absence. That's not blame. That's a fact.

Dee Aitch

Thank god you're not a crier. I can't imagine having to go into a vanilla job after being devastated by a 20 year old show. Yeah, Andrew is constantly making statements that lead you to believe he's gay, but we don't know that he is or if it's just horribly convincing coincidences. I think that's the joke, making him gay by all appearances but really never going there. It probably started before you noticed all of the things he's said. It's pretty funny to me, but that's from a previous generation, I hope it's still funny today. I thought that the background was a CGI thing on a greenscreen. Your new place looks really frickin' awesome! I don't think Tara dying was because she was gay, but because she was the SO of Willow and needed to be the trigger for Dark Willow. If Seth had never left the show, I feel like he'd be the sacrifice. But that's one person's opinion. Dark Willow was like hinted at in like ... season 4? Thank you for sharing your emotions with us. I really appreciate it.

Terri

Lol PetraPlata...what? That's not what they were saying. They were saying the universe realigned when Buffy was brought back and a series of events played out that wouldn't have happened if she was dead still. It's a rotten coincidence...or maybe...even the universe putting some bad luck out to them for going against the laws of nature. It's true...if Buffy wasn't there...Warren would have no reason to be in that yard in the first place. No one is saying it's Buffy's fault for that though. Just a really bad set of events. In other words..."Just stop."

Terri

Agreed. I don't think this is the bury your gays trope at all. Tara wasn't some background character. She had a whole story arc. And what romance does Joss ever let succeed? I can't think of one hardly...at least not a MAIN one in any of his shows and I've seen them all. In fact, in Joss's world...if anything this is a compliment to how important their love was. He only killed the ones that are important/MAIN loves in his shows.

Captain Hammer

Your wording was more eloquent than mine. Thank you

Terri

Dark Willow has been hinted at since the beginning. From the magic completely taking her over at the end of season 2 when she brought back Angelus. It totally controlled her. Then vampire-Willow was pretty dark and liked to torture. It's all there in moments throughout the show. Willow definitely has the POTENTIAL for a dark side. It's like the nature/nurture argument. How much does our environment play a role? Because Willow COULD be a villain easily. Yeah, Seth leaving changed the plot and they decided to add in Tara in his place. I very much think Oz would have died there if he hadn't pulled out of the show. I don't feel like this was a "bury your gays" moment. I think Joss just can't every let a great romance happen. Yeah, I always loved Andrew and his little comments. Then again, I'm from another generation too. I watched this live back in the day, so that tells you something.

Girl4Music

Okay, see. I’ve heard this perspective before. There’s a reason why I don’t agree with it though although I wish I did because it makes much more sense to have Tara’s death be a price for Willow’s selfish actions and choices with her abuse of magic. It makes much more sense to have Willow lose Tara as a punishment for abusing her. But the way they go about it - the way it is executed - doesn’t make the message clear that abusers deserve to be punished. It instead makes it seem like recovering addicts and lesbians deserve to be. If Tara had died when and where she originally should have been - much earlier in the season - this likely would have been the case. And therefore her death would be respectful and purposeful to her own arc with taking back her power and not just Willow’s arc with going full dark mode. Yes, Willow still would have done that, but the reason why Tara died would have been as the price, the cost, for Willow being reckless and careless with dark magic. And therefore would be thematically and narratively appropriate. I.e, Tara’s death would be the exchange for Buffy’s restored life by Willow’s personal hand. An ironic twist. Doing it the way they actually did it does not come across that way at all. It comes across as a massive insult to people genuinely in recovery from addiction, to people of the LGBTQ community and to Tara - the character - herself because it’s just a fucking accident. A stray bullet. Surely the Universal karma could come up with something much cleverer than that. So I disagree. I wish I didn’t. But I do. I don’t have a problem with Tara’s death. I have a problem with TARA’s death. I have a problem with how it is done. How it’s disrespectful to Tara. I think Tara dying is appropriate and the right endgame for her. But not like this. Doing it like this doesn’t make her a victim of consequence. It just makes her an accidental death. She deserved more.

Girl4Music

It doesn’t matter. This is still how it feels and how it comes across. It doesn’t matter what his intention was. Killing off a gay character accidentally and unbeknownst to them after they’ve spent the whole episode making love with another gay character recovering from addiction - reaffirming their love for one another - is massively insulting and disrespectful whether it’s intended to be or not. The execution is all wrong. The fact Whedon and Co didn’t catch this proves that they didn’t really care. It was irrelevant to them who it would affect in devastating and life-shattering ways. I’m not saying Joss didn’t care about his gay characters. He clearly did. I’m saying he didn’t care about a gay audience who saw themselves in Willow and Tara because there was next to nothing else in lesbian representation at the time of the airing of this show. He didn’t account for how it would make people feel. That’s on him.

Girl4Music

Groundbreaking representation… Until it wasn’t. It’s a toss up between what’s more famous about it. That they were allowed to be a canon lesbian couple. OR That half of that lesbian couple was cruelly killed off. You could say they were the start of a legacy of both acceptance of LGBT on TV and the pain/anger/grief of losing it. My emotions do a complete 180 every time. And I’ll never get over it. Fuck Joss Whedon. But it says a lot that one of the 3 main and most popular romantic relationships in the show is Tillow.

Girl4Music

That’s one way to look at it I suppose. It still massively sucks of course and is still a major insult to a beloved queer character.

Girl4Music

Then they should have killed her off in a much more respectful way. Showing that she did have value and that her arc mattered instead of completely undermine it by removing her agency entirely from it.

Ron Fehr

You made the right choice in not procrastinating about this episode. You would just have had to wonder and worry for a longer period of time. Better to find out and not have that bothering you.

Girl4Music

Willow has always had a vengeful and power hungry nature as well as a very repressed sadistic side of which her “soulless” self had no inhibitions hiding. I always say that whole ‘Doppelgängland’ episode wasn’t necessarily showcasing how different ensouled and human Willow VS soulless and vampire Willow is but rather showcasing the two different sides to Willow. What she is for now and what she could be depending on eternal influences and extenuating circumstances. Nature VS Nurture - as you said. Willow is all about control. This is showcased to be control of others here in Season 6. But for the most part - it’s self-control. For me, Willow clearly had an anxiety disorder. OCD, specifically. Lifelike Dark Willow is a great little arc for her character but really, Dark Willow has always been there, bubbling underneath the surface - waiting for a chance to emerge. Of course the loss of a lover would be what caused that to happen. I don’t think it’s the wrong thing to do. I just think the way they go about it is wrong. Tara dying point blank would have triggered Dark Willow. Why do it like this?

Terri

But just because it makes people feel a certain way...doesn't matter. It is SUPPOSED to make you feel. That's Joss's whole thing. But also you essentially point out that because they are gay representation that Joss should write them differently. Why? Gay representation deserves the same treatment that Joss would give any straight couple...which is a blindly good romance with all the feels...only to end in tragedy. It makes no sense to give them separate treatment just because they are gay. That seems patronizing. I am actually SO GLAD Buffy aired untouched from a lot of what we see happening to TV now. For example, the unwritten rules that say a gay couple must get an HEA, but a straight couple doesn't have to. Buffy and old shows similar to that were able to write whatever they wanted without pushback from social media. That's why we got such a great show. Today they sterilize everything and it ends up having a ton of representation...and no heart. You feel nothing when you watch it. That's why all the reactors watch the old shows with cult followings. They made people feel so much that they have withstood the test of time. I'm betting in 20 years that not many shows airing today will be able to say the same. Anyway, I'm all for gay representation and I ADORE Tara/Willow. However, I am NOT for giving them different treatment than any straight couple would get on the show. To me, that seems like yet another form of discrimination. Then again, I'm old school so... Just thank goodness Buffy was made 20 years ago and not today. It would never be able to tell such engaging, heartfelt stories.

Girl4Music

I have a feeling she’ll binge watch the rest of the season and then make a decision as to whether she wants to carry on or not. Because I got to be honest. I would have stopped at Season 6 myself if a certain Season 7 character storyline didn’t come into play from the events of Season 6.

Ron Fehr

Tara was definitely the anchor for Willow in regards to how she should treat magic. And once Tara was gone, there was nothing to hold Willow back.

Claire Eyles

I knew way ahead of time that Domi has asked for zero warnings on episodes she's currently watching, but seeing her so devastated and crying like that is the exact reason why I have started offering trigger warnings to reactors. So far only two have said yes they would like trigger warnings for specific things, the rest have said no so in that case obviously I don't say anything. Trigger warnings are not the same as flat out spoilers, and I really wish people would understand the difference. A spoiler would be, "Okay so in ep 19 Spike is going to attempt to rape Buffy, and Warren is going to shoot Buffy and Tara, just after Buffy and Xander makeup after they have a fight, oh by the way Tara dies". A trigger warning, for me at least, is more like, "Please be aware the upcoming episode contains scenes of attempted sexual assault, gun violence, and a character death', or 'Please be aware the next episode contains depictions of self harm', or 'The next episode contains a scene depicting domestic violence', etc. No details, no specific plot points, and definitely no saying anything unless the reactor has specifically asked to be given a heads up for certain things.

Girl4Music

Yep. An anchor for her anxiety as well. Which if you think about it - it’s the same thing since Willow uses magic as a crutch for her anxieties. Her magic always being tied to her emotions. This is no different. She’s blindingly angry now. So her magic is going to be very dark and strong.

Girl4Music

That sounds like a good idea. I like talking about the show so much that I often don’t even realize when I’m giving spoilers or not because I don’t know how far that reactor is. Especially when it’s just on YouTube. So I tend to just put “may contain spoilers” and hope for the best.

Ron Fehr

I can only guess that the reason most reactors have said no to trigger warnings is because even something like that can make their reactions less genuine. While they would definitely be beneficial to their mental health, I'm assuming most reactors want to deal with their emotions on there own. In the case of Joyce's storyline in season five, I don't know if Domi would have required a trigger warning. She still felt uneasy about her mortality even after the success of the operation. I remember the scene at the end of I Was Made to Love You, when Buffy entered her home, only to find Joyce's body on the couch. Domi was visibly upset, but not really surprised. Lastly, I just want to say that while it was painful to watch Domi have to go through it, I don't recall seeing a more genuine reaction, or seen anyone that sad.

Ron Fehr

I think it's only appropriate that Domi was wearing that shirt during this reaction, since it looks like we may not see Tara again.

Ron Fehr

I suppose Osiris meant a natural death because many people have died via gunshot, usually war related, whereas Buffy's was mystical, as he said. Normally when we think of a 'natural' death, we think of some kind of illness, so death by gunshot doesn't seem natural.

Ron Fehr

The one bright side that I can see concerning Tara's death is that at least they made up.

Henrik Holst

Plenty of people get convicted without the murder weapon, it is not needed when there are other forms of evidence as in this case with a direct witness. And since this is California it doesn't matter if he intended to kill or harm Tara at all, that is why I wrote felony-murder in my first post, that is a special kind of law that exists in California where you are responsible for every death that happens when you commit a felony. So Warren committing attempted murder to Buffy means that he has committed felony-murder on Tara and the punishment is equal to if it had been deliberate murder (there are instances of people being sent away for life as felony-murder when the police shot their accomplice when e.g two people broke into a car).

Henrik Holst

I think it does matter in what we label it as. I get that you don't like what happened and I see your points but that doesn't still make it bury your gays to me, it could be something else though (I just don't know what).

Henrik Holst

Supposedly there are some interview out there where Seth says that when he decided to leave Joss tried to convince him to stay by revealing that he had it planned that Oz would be killed to launch Dark Willow so for what it's worth there does seem to be some evidence that this was going to happen to Willows SO regardless of their sex or gender.

Girl4Music

I’ve seen a more genuine reaction but not in the “crying” way. It was more a shrieking and then parental intervention. 🤣

Girl4Music

I wish I could get my hands on that Season 4 initial manifesto. I swear to god, had it been so that neither Green nor Crouse had left the show, I’m pretty certain that would have been my most favourite season of the entire show. And I say that as someone that absolutely adores Season 5.

Girl4Music

Least it wasn’t a white shirt with red on it. That would have been a little too on the nose.

Girl4Music

Not that kind of gunshot anyway. I swear you’d have to call it some Macro-scale quantum phenomena to justify how that fucking bullet could even hit Tara, let alone go right through her, killing her.

Girl4Music

I think that’s what makes it worse actually. This is why it’s referred to as “Bury your Gays”. It’s usually a gay death right after a gay action has taken place. It could have been a marriage proposal or even just a romantic stroll on a beach and it would still be referred to as ‘Bury your Gays’ if one of the couple just suddenly died. Some even refer to it as that even when the gay character dies at all.

Girl4Music

Back in the day, teens and young people were still casually throwing around the slur, "you’re gay" as an insult. 90's People didn't really get that Tara and Willow were a proud couple and here to stay. One thing I respect from this show is that they treat Tara and Willow just like any other human sitcom couple. They deal with unique problems but it isn't with some sort of gloved hands or as throwaway jokes. Theirs is a real relationship, neither on a perfect pedestal nor as a gay trope. I have to say that’s what I really love about them too. That they’re not without their own relationship conflicts and flaws just because they’re the gay couple. It’s more realistic that way. They feel real because of all the shit that goes down between them. I know most Buffy fans wanted the writers to avoid all the toxicity because of them being one of the first LGBTQ representations on mainstream TV. But I think it honestly just does them a disservice if they’re not willing to take the bad with the good. I saw this one article talking about how despite Willow and Tara being a beautiful legacy that they were still a toxic couple and that that wasn’t fair given they were one of the first depictions of lesbianism on mainstream TV. And while I completely understand that… I disagree. I think it’s better representation that they showed their relationship to be toxic sometimes too. That they showed times when they were healthy and unhealthy. Because like I said - that’s realistic. That’s a real romantic/sexual relationship whether same-sex or not. And that shouldn’t be avoided or changed just because they were one of the first representations of a same-sex relationship on mainstream TV. People needed to know that same-sex couplings were just like opposite-sex couplings. That they would have problems, conflicts and toxicity in them sometimes too. It was better that Willow and Tara weren’t without that because that would have been fake and insulting. As for the way Tara died. Again - it’s not that she died that’s the problem for me. In fact that would have been only appropriate given the nature of the show and that - as you said - Whedon likes his tragic endings for the couples be it straight or gay… it’s just the way they decided to kill Tara off that is the problem for me given I feel that it undermines her own character arc in the purpose to be the trigger for Willow’s arc. But I feel that regardless of how or when or why Tara died - Dark Willow would emerge anyway. That was just a given. It’s mainly the fact that they had it happen right after they reunited as a couple and that it was just an accidental stray bullet in the back. Because Tara’s arc was about taking back her power and respect for her agency, killing her off that way majorly insults her. She deserved better or more. Her death should have happened in respect and purpose to her own arc. Not just Willows. That’s just how I feel. Maybe I am being irrational. But I don’t think it’s without reason to feel this way given - as you said - Tara was an important character. She is the groups anchor and I just feel the way they decided to remove that anchor was all wrong if only for the maximum drama. But that’s TV art/entertainment I guess.

Terri

I mean, speak for yourself about the 90's. I was a teen in the 90's. Yes, people were using "you're gay." Yes, it was insensitive and I'm glad that has changed. However, to be fair to people in the 90's...99% of them didn't actually connect "gay" to mean homosexual people in that sense. To most of us it was..."you're not cool." Of course I see how that can then be insulting to actual gay people, which is why it is good it has stopped. However, again...most of us didn't connect it with gay people in our minds when people said it. It was the opposite of "you're cool." Teens weren't really that introspective back then to think how saying such a thing could hurt gay people. But it wasn't that people back then were deliberately homosexual bashing. That wasn't at all what the majority of people were doing. To characterize it as such is simply...wrong. Also, completely disagree that people in the 90's didn't see Tara/Willow as a real couple here to stay. Again, I was a teen back then. Everyone I knew and people on the message boards (that yes...I was on) LOVED them. Of course you had some that preferred Tara/Oz. There was very much a Bangel/Spuffy like debate but with Tara/Willow and Tara/Oz even back then. Some people DID have some Tara hate due to her replacing Oz. Then again, some people hate Spike for replacing Angel. But I do remember there was a lot of Tara love too...even back then. I mean, without it...do you think her death would have had as big of an impact?! The fact that people loved her is WHY it hits so hard in the series. And your second paragraph is EXACTLY what I was trying to say. All the complexity about them makes them feel more real. It gives the relationship heart and makes us FEEL something for them. That was one of the brilliant things this show did for gay representation. It made a relationship that felt real to everyone...gay and straight. People could identify with it. Still today it is one of my favorite LGBTQ romances...and I've seen a lot! Mostly because I'd argue that they don't make the romances today feel realistic because they don't give them any complications to overcome. They try to treat gay relationships today very different than straight romances, which I feel does a disservice to them. Again, that's why Tara/Willow are still my number one couple! I'd agree with you somewhat on her death undermining Tara's character arc. That's very true. Then again...Joss did that a few times in the Buffyverse. The rape with Spike is the same imo. Sometimes Joss makes bad calls in order to push the plot forward in a certain way. Then again, I guess I can let it go in my head because I consider that sometimes...things like that just happen IRL. Tara was taken away cruelly and without mercy on a completely otherwise normal day. That's what makes it so tragic. I still remember the first time I watched 6x19 live. I remember being so hurt and angry and in complete disbelief. Funny how Joss makes these characters feel so real and beloved that we feel such visceral emotions!!

Girl4Music

Fair enough. I just wish I could feel something other than anger every time I see that scene or have any kind of mention to Tara’s death. I can’t. And therefore, to me, it’s not something I can let go of. And okay - that’s the point. Doesn’t really say anything new or profound other than “shit happens”. And for Tara - she deserved better. I’ll leave it at that.

Terri

Completely agree and I feel the same basically. It still upsets me every single time.

Monique van Herpt

It absolutely massively sucked! It's one of those deaths I will never really get over.

Monique van Herpt

As much as I hated her death, I also don't believe this one can be considered part of the (way too long) "Bury Your Gays" list. But I can also see why others look at it that way. I believe there was a lot more meaning behind her death, *especially* because of the super random and extremely unfair way she got ripped away from us. Those kind of deaths are the most shocking and ugly, because they are too honest and real - and we don't see them coming. And again, as much as I hate to say it; it does fit with the theme of the season (facing life's hardships while dealing with your own demons). Willow immediately turning to Osiris to ask him to undo what happened, and us viewers believing that it will be ok because it's Willow and she knows her shit. But this one is irreversible and painfully final - because it's part of real life. I feel like the Scoobies sometimes kinda forgot about that, being used to all these supernatural loopholes.

Henrik Holst

Well regarding the "I mean, speak for yourself about the 90's. I was a teen in the 90's. Yes, people were using "you're gay." Yes, it was insensitive and I'm glad that has changed. However, to be fair to people in the 90's...99% of them didn't actually connect "gay" to mean homosexual people in that sense. " That was the experience for far more people than only Girl4Music, ofc it probably was different from school to school and region/country to region/country but where I went to school and where I lived it was used exclusively to refer to actual gay people and there where no confusion what so ever, there where even vivid debates among friends on exactly how they would assault any male person trying to ever make a move on them.

Ava Sinclair

I definitely get where you're coming from; this was so heartbreaking to watch and it did make me wish we didn't have to see Domi so blindsided and hurt. :( but I do think it's up to the reactor to decide if they want trigger warnings. Some things are going to hurt, regardless. I know for me personally, I can't have trigger warnings like that because that's enough information for me to figure out a lot of plot points, and I hate spoiling myself.

Claire Eyles

I completely agree with what your saying, which is why I always ask first and if the reactor says no, that's the end of the conversation.

Rio de Tanana

I am completely baffled by people who think crying is bad. We have tear ducts for reasons, people.

Henrik Holst

She spoke for close to 2h, could you be more specific? Still doesn't make this bury your gays, that has a specific definition.

madfem

but do you know mods already do that ??

Zoé Turcotte

Girl Dark Willow is the best willow of course willow herself is the best but Dark willow is everything warren deserve it he deserves to died me in the entire final episodes of the season 6 I was in dark Willow side because Buffy and the others are useless for that

Mr MidLife

Episode 5x19: Tara gets her sanity drained by Glory. Willow goes darkside on Glory and we all go "Hell Yeah! That was cool." Whedon takes notes. How do you push Willow into becoming the Season 6 big bad? Make her work harder than she ever has to regain her self-control and Tara's trust, only to have it all go away in a stupid, pointless act of violence. Watching the episodes back, you can see Willow's recovery being tested and her love for Tara is what gave her the strength to stay clean. It's horrible, it's senseless and it's the single strongest argument I've ever seen on an American Drama for Gun Control.

Riddle

Everybody always mentions the Bury Your Gays trope, but I think in Buffy it always just felt to me much more like a Joss Whedon trope. He makes people happy so we feel their loss more. He did it with Jenny and Giles, you said he did it for Joyce, and I can think of others too. In some ways for me it always just felt that he does it for impact and I can't pretend it doesn't work. I feel my heart break every single time.

Nicamon

I'm so sorry you had to suffer so much during this episode, but I'm SO GLAD to FINALLY see someone NOT smiling and laughing at Dark Willow and incoraging her constantly. It's not something to be glad or proud of! Dark Willow is a symptom of Willow SUFFERING and I don't like to see my Willow suffering!X-((( 💔 I hate Dark Willow!
