I thought it was interesting that you said that it would be harder to forgive Spike for what he did because he was less evil. Angelus had no humanity in him. As The Judge said in Surprise. Spike still had a connection to his human self. The connection that allowed him to love Buffy should have stopped him from assaulting her.

In your character rankings, I thought you might use "Tucker's brother' instead of 'Andrew'. But hey, you remembered his name this time. Also, it looked for a while like Clem was going to rank higher on the list. Then came the stretch where he was always among your two choices, and you were only able to pick him once. It's not a criticism, just an observation.

Not necessarily when there’s human ensouled characters that still commit assault. You could say his connection to his human self is what caused him to assault her.

I wouldn’t recommend you watch them until after you complete the show but Faith Victoria on YouTube has 2 excellent Willow/Faith parallel character study videos that show just how similar their dark arcs really are. But yes, those two characters definitely should get together and talk.

I'm almost certain that Gone was the episode where Buffy said to someone that she realized that she didn't want to die, although I'm not 100% certain. And that was the reason I thought it might have been the catalyst that got her over her season-long depression. I hope I answered your question. And your reason for your answer got me thinking that you might be right.

I don't think William would have ever assaulted anybody. And Spike wasn't ensouled when he did. It was the demon that came out and broke though any restraints love or connections had on him.

I understand what you're saying about Giles and him having no real reason to leave 'in universe', but I actually think it makes sense when this season is all about making mistakes. It's totally on brand for the theme of the season. He saw Buffy struggling, and instead of doing the right thing, he kind of hid away from it cuz it was probably too much for him to handle. Just like every other character did when confronted with a big struggle this season.
