With regards to Buffy saying “I am the law” in Selfless, she makes it clear that she is referring to the demon realm. She’s always drawn a distinction saying that human society has institutions set up to deal with killing, etc., but when it comes to the supernatural, the Slayer IS that institution. People often connect this to Faith’s earlier stance but they are talking about completely different things.

I have a theory... Every year she's the Slayer, every fight she has, Buffy gets a little stronger. This would explain her first Turok Han fight, then this one where she kicked its arse. Soon she could take two at a time. so let's hope this was the only one in the meanwhile.

So excited for this new chapter for you! I’m about to venture into my own study/full time work journey so can relate. We’re all here to support you so any delays are completely understandable. ❤️

Regarding Faith. She's still in prison for a long while. She could only turn up with a dozen police cars on her tail.

Lime Pie

A more simple explanation is that Buffy was too tired in the last episode.

Richard Ashton

I was adding up over the previous seven years, not just seven days but you may be right - she could be just cream crackered.

Regarding your notes on "Selfless"... I think Anya held her own against Buffy because Buffy was holding back. Buffy knew that swords through the chest can't kill a vengeance demon because she sees Halfrek survive a sword in the chest in season 6. Anya even acknowledges this when she says "You know better than that Buffy. It takes more than that to kill a vengeance demon". Anya is trying to get Buffy to kill her because she can't live with what she has done. Anya walking away from Xander at the end is not supposed to be her send off. It's supposed to be Anya starting her journey to define herself, by herself. The whole episode is about how Anya doesn't know who she really is because she has always depended on others to define her. When Xander left her at the alter, she fell back to what she knew. But now that she broke her ties with D'Hoffryn, she has to find her own way.

Faith is a little preoccupied right now with being all locked up and stuff, remember when she turned her self over to the police? So don’t think she’s paying a visit to the Hellmouth any time soon.

Shaun Houghton

Are you suggesting that being in prison is an obstacle? Makes sense.

Shaun Houghton

So being in the "big house" full of girls is impeding on her joining the smaller house full of girls.

Ron Fehr

My guess for Anya granting such a drastic wish is that she was feeling the heat from D'Hoffryn and the lower beings, something that Halfrek had spoken to her about (poor Halfrek, by the way). Anya was just overcompensating for her lackluster performance as of late.

Ron Fehr

Andrew's 'license to kill' comment was in reference to a James Bond movie of the same name. He then mentioned Timothy Dalton, who played James Bond in said movie. The Broccolis were the producers of the franchise.

Ron Fehr

I love how Buffy defeated the Turok-han. Decapitation is a surefire way to kill a vampire. Also want to say that Vi (Felicia Day) was my favorite potential Slayer, and I don't normally pick favorites.

I won't argue that Kennedy, while too good to be true, could be presumed as evil. However, she can't be the First, like fake Eve was. She is corporeal. She was given a crossbow and arrows, which she couldn't have grabbed, had she not been in solid form.

Ron Fehr

At least in the "big house," she has more room to move around.

Ron Fehr

The final shot of her coming out front under the leaves' shadows was symbolizing her coming out of the darkness into the light, so to speak.

We had one day of -35°C weather Gere a couple of weeks ago.

I have a couple of thoughts. Could Buffy just have said that she had to kill Anya in order to test Xander's love for the vengeance demon? Was she holding back during the fight in hopes that she might find a different solution to the problem? Had she actually killed Anya, would she have lost Xander's friendship?

Raven Dark

I agree that Buffy might have done better against the Turak Han this time, as others said, because she gets stronger as the series goes on, or because she was just really tired and worn down the last time, but I also wonder if it's simply that she's fought one of them before. I can buy that someone as well trained as Buffy, who is endowed with the "skill and strength to fight vampires" could fight an opponent once, learn from that encounter and become aware of its super speed and strength enough to be better at it the next time. Besides, I don't think this time was exactly easy. She just did a little better than the last time. Loving your reactions to season 7 so far, Domi. I really like this episode, and your reaction to it didn't disappoint. Onto the final stretch of the series!

Ron Fehr

I agree. Buffy seems to need a few encounters to figure out her opponent. Also, in this case, her first two encounters with the Turok-han took her somewhat by surprise.

Ron Fehr

I think that the main thing Buffy was teaching the potential Slayers was that the fight was not going to be easy, and they needed to be prepared for that.

Personally I have both divided feelings of admiration and cringe over the Spike on the cross speech. Mostly because it's annoying with all of the metaphors and vague references being not quite describing what he's wanting to say. But as much as I'm not a Buffy/Angel person, I really loved her "I loved him more than anything in the world" speech. SMG really sold that scene. I am not sure if Willow ever learned about the attempted rape. We know she saw Buffy cover a bruise quickly. We also know that Xander and Dawn canonically know (thanks, Xander). I've always assumed that Buffy would mention it to Willow at some point after they reestablished their trust zone. But it may not be something that she ever wanted to bring up. But AFAIK we whitewash over it like we whitewash over Willow's mind rape of Tara. Keep in mind that the scene where Xander relayed Willow's message of "kick his ass" was actually Xander being a dick and relaying his own message. Willow actually told him to tell her that they're trying to restore his soul. Hence her saying "I never said that" in this episode (7x05?). Xander lying without consequence is a big moment in reflecting on his character. LOL at you remembering Andrew's name out of all the trio. Whichever microphone stand you buy make sure it has the isolation rubber bands to prevent bumping from being transmitted into the mic mechanically. God, speaking of cringe, Eve's fake southern accent is the worst. Even worse than Boreanaz' Irish accent. Vonnegut is pronounced pretty much how you think it would be.

Michael

Your problem with Andrew is starting to get annoying, he didn’t have anything to do with Tara’s death Warren was the one who flung his arms around when shooting causing the bullet to hit Tara exploding her heart and making the blood splatter on Willow’s face

JOSE HOSANA CARVALHO DA FONSECA

Andrew being an accomplice to an atttempted gang rape and in the murder of the victim is not tobe forgotten. They should just kill him.

As is typical within BtVs, the books mentioned (as well as music played and class lessons) all tie into the episode plot in some way. Slaughterhouse 5 is certainly about war, but it also focuses on a character who can time travel, seeing the present, past and future. He can see it, but cannot effect any change- much like Cassie, who can see the future but cannot do anything to change it.
