Rewatching this episode is so interesting because you realize this is what Angel envisions to be perfectly happy: his friends happy and working together, getting closure with Wesley (him apologizing, which he never did for taking Connor), Connor fighting by his side, and being able to express and act on his love for Cordelia and for her to reciprocate that.

Lime Pie

To add on, he also needs an Indiana Jones adventure and to say a cheesy one liner when he defeats the big bad. Plus, he mentioned Buffy at the end there as well.

This is totally unrelated to the episode, but this thought just hit me. I wonder what Connor's life would have been like had he not gone to Qortoth. Would he have already had superpowers growing up? Would he have been able to control them? What adjustments would the gang have needed to make? One thing's for sure. It wouldn't have been a normal childhood.

Angel: "Wood. Why did it have to be wood?" Indiana Jones: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"

Kirsten Stewart

Such a great episode with a fantastic ending. I have to say that I never understood people’s utter hatred for Connor. I get he can be annoying and whiny at times, or a lot, but where’s the empathy for the fact his entire existence has been fighting for survival, betrayal and being used as a pawn? When we can forgive Faith and cheer her on during her arc when she has done worse things, how do we not show this kid a bit of understanding and cut him some slack? He has literally had no healthy role models, or normal relationships with other humans - just a bit of empathy is perhaps warranted here, just saying.

That was a great demonstration of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing. Well done. As for that "goodbye feeling", that's all you, I have no idea where that is coming from.

A fascinating looking into angels current psyche and what his perfect day / perfect happiness looks for him at this very moment.

Derek Garrard

I completely agree with you. It's a major fault of the writing that Connor was never given the proper sympathetic look over he needed to be a solid member of the team. All they let Vincent do is scowl and complain about Angel, when he's capable of far more than that.

This episode is a masterpiece in how to do a bait and switch twist. It's so earned. There are some twists (even in this show) and that are so asinine and well planted that they call into question everything you saw in a bad way. This episode and this twist calls everything you into question in the best way. Also, the idea of the Shaman simulating perfect happiness for Angel by giving him the perfect day to induce the soul leaving is so cool and sooooo perfect and was set up for us literally 6 seasons of TV ago.
