From what I gather with Willow’s complete breakdown at the end there is that she doesn’t feel guilty for killing Warren, she just feels guilty for kissing Kennedy. And she’s, for some strange reason, correlating the two separate events together because she can’t or doesn’t want to let go of Tara to move into a new relationship with Kennedy. It’s like she thinks that her kissing Kennedy and allowing herself to feel like she can enjoy it is the same thing as her feeling like she’s the one that shot Tara. Not Warren. If this is what is intended by the writers for her characterisation this episode all I’ve got to say is what an insanely twisted and tormented mind this girl has. It’s actually frightening to be quite honest. If her complex trauma is that bad that she’s connecting an act of sexual intimacy and an act of murder together… I don’t even have the words to explain how disturbing that is to me. That’s some serious psychological trauma going on with her. And if it’s kissing Kennedy that caused this chaos in her to begin with, why the hell is the solution to ending it for Kennedy to kiss her again? Wouldn’t that just make it even worse? 🤷‍♀️

In tears right there with you (and I've seen this episode more than a dozen times). I'm noy gay, not a girl and over 70, so why does it affect me so much?

Girl4Music

Amy - once a rat, always a rat.

Girl4Music

Because it’s an experience anyone can have and therefore makes you resonate with it with your own experiences - however different they may be. Like ‘The Body’.

In the end Amy turned out to be just like her mother.

My impression is that when she realized she enjoyed and let herself kiss Kennedy, it signified she's moved on from Tara, and she feels like it's too soon. By moving on, she accepted her death and let herself feel feelings for someone else that she thinks should still be only for Tara. That's why she said, "I let her be dead." To me, kissing Kennedy broke the spell because the exchange between them was enough to make her realize she can have feelings for two people. That having feelings for Kennedy doesn't mean Tara is no longer in her heart. I hope that makes sense.

Girl4Music

It would if it meant she didn’t have to kiss her for the spell to start and end. Perhaps it’s a “full circle” type of thing. But for me. It didn’t make sense. I feel like there needed to be a scene where they addressed that this is what happened. They didn’t sit with the conclusion enough. Rushed narrative.

Just keep your Faith.

Yes, what Amy did was definitely not nice, but she did not make Willow turn into Warren. I see in a small way as also being Willow's fault. She's not always as nice as people make her out to be. No matter what the circumstances, she killed someone, and nobody has that right.

Ron Fehr

I wonder, if Tara was still alive, and Kennedy showed up, if Willow would need to make a choice. Personally, I wouldn't want anyone else for Willow other than Tara.

In Willow's defense, she did not turn Amy into a rat--Amy did that to herself. Willow just kind of...failed to turn her back. For three years. ...Yeah, I get why Amy's upset with her. :D Still, I do think Amy owed Willow an apology after what she did last time we saw her (deliberately dosing Willow with magic while she was trying to "get clean", also implied at the time to be an attempt by her to "get revenge" on Willow).

Ron Fehr

This episode took a little longer than usual to film. In all the Willow/Warren scenes, both Alyson Hannigan and Adam Busch had to do the lines. In the editing process, it was decided which version was appropriate for each circumstance.

Girl4Music

Willow’s subconscious picked the form of her punishment - so she’s punishing herself, not Amy. She doesn’t feel guilty for killing Warren, (or at least not to the level that she should for cold-blooded murder) she feels guilty for kissing Kennedy because to her it meant that she was letting go of Tara to enjoy a kiss with another woman since her. But moving on from a past relationship doesn’t necessarily mean letting go of them. At least not in the sense of just leaving them behind or, as she put it - “let her be dead”. It just means that you’re still alive and you deserve to move on and live a life that you enjoy - that makes you feel happy - or feel anything again. Willow is totally numb and completely paralyzed in the past as anyone would be when dealing with grief and haven’t processed the loss yet. It’s normal to feel that way after a death or separation from a loved one. What isn’t is the fact Willow is conflating an act of sexual intimacy with another woman with an act of murdering a man - just because the same person and past relationship is tied to both events in her head - is very disturbing. It’s trauma that really needs to be better addressed. The woman needs therapy - hex put on her or not - because if this is the kind of destructive behaviour she results to every time she feels insecurity or weakness in herself then she’s too dangerous to be allowed to have any freedom or free will. She needs professional help. End of. Amy might not be going about it in the best way - choosing vengeance rather than communicating her feelings and concerns (which Willow would absolutely do too), but she has one hell of a point. And instead of the narrative acknowledging and exploring that point, it vilifies her by doing an “oopsie, guess I’m just the bad guy after all because I’m no better than Willow - who attempted to end the world because her pretty little witch girlfriend accidentally died.” It’s weak writing for a show that usually handles moral greyness very well. I was disappointed to say the least. I was disappointed with a lot of things in Season 7. It’s easily the worst.

A lot of the fans dislike Kennedy, but I like her. And I think she's exactly what Willow needed: someone who is a tad too pushy, and who pushes her to confront her guilt about Tara.

KiwiJello

Edit: Realized it could have been slightly spoilery and don't want that, so I'll just say Kennedy is ok by me :)

Ron Fehr

I still prefer Tara, but I agree with you. While I didn't care for Kennedy most of the time, she has her positive traits.

Ron Fehr

My problem for a long time was her aggressive attitude. I got over it. Another probable reason was that I like some other potential Slayers more.

Ron Fehr

One argument that I read, defending Giles a corporeal, was that he had to gather the potential Slayers. He would have had to travel to different places, probably by plane. Plus, in the last episode, he went to get another one.

Ron Fehr

Aquamarine underoos. Would have been interesting to hear about that.

Ron Fehr

I don't like tea either.

Khanach

Yeah, the Giles gaslighting worked with me, because I was sus from the beggining. Nobody hugging him when he got back was weird, and him always getting somebody else fetching things for him, especially books he wouldn't touch. It felt very deliberate

KiwiJello

Damnit Domi, I wasn't going to cry over Tara and then you cried, now I'm cryin'... doh. This show though.

Ron Fehr

Yep. It was deliberate. Anthony Stewart Head commented on how difficult it was to not interact with anything. I'm glad Domi stuck to her guns, and wasn't gaslit.

Ron Fehr

Nobody is truly dead if they are still in our thoughts.

Ron Fehr

In the case of Buffy and Faith, I think Faith may have shown some gay or bi leanings, but Buffy was just looking for friendship with her.
