The saga continues. I went on Matthew Perpetua's Fluxpod for the latest in our continuing series on Steely Dan, and he has graciously made it available to the Junk Filter patron feed.

This episode covers the new live albums plus discussion of the songs "Aja," "Dirty Work," "Razor Boy," "Night by Night," "Your Gold Teeth II," "Everything You Did," "Time Out of Mind," "The Second Arrangement," and "The Goodbye Look."

We'll be doing Danpilled V in the new year.

Enjoyed this episode. I went to Bard College as an undergrad in the 90s. Two of the more well known alumni of Bard College were Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. One feature of Bard College is that you're required to spend part of your senior year working on a long senior thesis in your major. Another feature of the senior thesis is that it is also publicly available in the Bard College library. Now, some of the senior theses of well-known alumni are not publicly available but withheld in special collections—including Donald Fagen's. I never personally read Donald Fagen's thesis, but it was listed in the card catalog at the time. The topic for his literature major thesis was Hermann Hesse including Siddhartha. This is all to say that Donald Fagen would have been very familiar with Buddhist history and the banyan tree symbology when writing Aja.
