Yes, although it is not mentioned in the main comic, I think John often takes care of the children. Maybe we will see more of John after this chapter.

Totally, but if that's so then he may be hiding it from his girlfriend and everyone else cause he can't accept himself or something. That said, it might build into his development as a character which we only had scratched the surface.
