Finding Family 10 – Update #1 (Patreon)

Hello everyone!

I'm happy to finally share the first update of Finding Family Chapter 10!

Thank you so much for your patience and continued support during the break!

Chapter 9 ended with an unexpected turn at the homecoming ceremony. Chapter 10 picks up from there, following Charr and the family as they face what comes next.

This is a particularly important chapter for Charr, and I've spent a lot of time preparing the story and working out the details. I hope you'll enjoy seeing how everything unfolds!

As previously announced, Chapter 10 will be released in 16 parts, with new updates on the second Saturday of each month. The next update is scheduled for November 14.

A Note About Adult Content

Starting with Chapter 10, adult scenes in the English edition will use the same mosaic censorship as the Japanese edition.

I'll also be gradually updating older works in the Patreon Shop and archives to follow the same standards.

I've decided to make this change so I can continue creating and sharing Finding Family with peace of mind.

A quick note about the mosaics:

I've received a few questions about whether uncensored versions will be available on other platforms.

The main reason for this change isn't Patreon itself. Since I'm based in Japan, I also need to consider Japanese legal restrictions on explicit content. So switching to another platform wouldn't really solve the issue.

I plan to use mosaics in my explicit artwork from now on, and I don't have any plans to offer uncensored versions elsewhere.

I know this is disappointing, and honestly, it's frustrating for me too. It wasn't an easy decision, but I hope you can understand. Thank you for your continued support!

Notice: Older posts are removed after about three months. Update #10 and #11 are next in line for deletion in the coming weeks, so please save any files you'd like to keep.

Will there be non-mosaic versions available? Kinda bummer to have a read and see ‘smudges’ to your wonderful art and storytelling — one of the reasons why I stuck for years to a Patreon subscription with you. Gumroad perhaps where the chapters are available without the smudgy mosaics?

Thank you so much for supporting my work all these years! I completely understand your disappointment. Honestly, this wasn't an easy decision for me either. I've decided to make this change as a precaution so I can continue publishing my comics with greater peace of mind. Unfortunately, Gumroad isn't an option for my adult content, and I'm currently selling my comics only through the Patreon Shop. Since I'm based in Japan, I have to consider the legal risks of publishing uncensored adult content here. So unfortunately, switching to OnlyFans or another platform wouldn't solve the problem, and the versions in my Patreon Shop will have mosaics too. And yes, Chapter 10 will be released in 16 monthly parts, so it'll take a while to finish! 😅 I really appreciate your patience and your efforts to find another option. How long do we have to purchase and download the uncensored versions in the Patreon store before they are replaced with the new censored versions?

'Finding Family' is probably the only stable thing in my life right now (I'm not exaggerating 😭). You're the only creator I'm subscribed to on Patreon, and whenever I see a notification from my favorite artist pop up on my phone, it instantly makes my entire day. 🥹 Maririn, I think your readers will eventually understand the changes you've decided to implement, not because you wanted to, but because you HAD to in order to keep creating, make people happy on this and other platforms, and essentially make a living out of it. It all sounds more than reasonable to me. I've looked into the issue a bit, and apparently, Article 175 of Japan's Penal Code restricts the distribution and public display of material legally classified as "obscene," including certain digital content. It's such a shame that these legal restrictions can complicate things for artists trying to share their work. 😭 The only solution I can see is making both of you SUPER successful so you and Alex can move to the States and you can post NSFW content without any restrictions (I'm joking, of course... but who knows? 👀). I'm genuinely invested in this comic series. I really want to see Elias and Coal mature together and discover how their relationship develops, along with the journeys of all the other characters. I love them all so much! And honestly, I think those of us who've been enjoying your work for so long will stick around until the very end, regardless of these changes. Thanks for following my work for so long! I understand your frustration, and I feel it too. I actually think things used to be more permissive in some ways, and restrictions on adult content seem to be getting tighter worldwide, not just in Japan. On the other hand, I think Japan also has some creative freedoms that aren't always found in Western countries. Personally, I'm not really the type to fight against society's rules. I'd rather find ways to keep creating within the society I live in. It can be frustrating, but I still love what I do and want to keep doing it! Thanks for caring and sharing your thoughts!

I haven't set a specific deadline. I'll be replacing the older versions gradually as I work through them, so there's no fixed schedule. If there are any uncensored versions you'd like to keep, I'd recommend downloading them while they're still available. Thanks for understanding!

I'm sorry, but being unable to see your art uncensored is hugely disappointing. While I understand it seems to be out of your control, it's a huge step backward. Mosaic censoring is just an objectively worse experience imho.

I absolutely understand your reasons and support your decision. I only find it sad that you are practically forced to such measures due to the strict laws, which till this day I don't understand the logic behind it. We see exactly what happens there, so why do they ask porn creators to hide that one detail. In more hardcore cases everything else is allowed as well, what does it matter if we see the genitals clearly? I know your works are going to be awesome either way, pixelated or not. I just wish you could express your talents freely and hope one day the government of Japan comes to the conclusion that when something is adult content, the cesoring of genitals is meaningless since it's up to the adults to decide if they want to watch said content or not. I completely understand how you feel. I don't usually talk about it much, but believe me, as the artist, I probably hate having to censor my own work even more than you might imagine. I pour so much time and effort into drawing the very details I now have to cover up. So yes, it's incredibly frustrating for me too. But I've decided to take this precaution to reduce the legal risks and protect the place I've built to share my work. It's not because I'm okay with censorship, but because I want to keep creating. The standards for mosaic censorship seem to have gotten stricter over the years, so I need to make sure the shapes underneath aren't clearly recognizable anymore. I almost forgot you were from Japan, I don't quite understand the censorship, I've seen adult works where they only use a few lines in the genitals? Is that not a viable option here?

I used to use black bars in my older black-and-white comics, but for full-color artwork, I actually think mosaics look less distracting. Neither option is ideal, of course haha

Just had a thought! Instead of mosaic, why not black censor bars? I've seen a number of Japanese artists use for years, which I think might be the best was to get around censors, and we'll still be able to see the good stuff 😏😏😏

Thanks for the suggestion! 😆I actually used black censor bars in my older black-and-white comics! But Japanese platforms like DLsite recommend mosaics for full-color works, since the outlines need to be properly obscured. And with my art style, I personally think mosaics look much better than having thick black bars all over the artwork. Of course, I'd rather not use either haha
