New video is up! A topic that I felt very strongly about but which nobody asked for my hot take on.

Kylo Ren is a never nude. That is one of the most brilliant things I have ever heard. Thank you Jenny.

This video answered the question of whether Kylo and Leia wear socks under their boots and I gotta say, I could've expected Kylo would be the kind of grandfather-worshipping freak to go for the blister-inducing, sweat-soaked hell that is the sockless boot experience, but I expected better from his mom. She is a princess, dangit.

hate to be a bother but when i signed up i didn't realize the name i signed up with would immediately be used as my username. can you, in the future, list me as "m wilk" and not "marissa wilk"? thanks!

Nick Ulanowski

Can you please change my name from “Nicholas Ulanowski” to “Nick Ulanowski”? Thank you! 🙃

Blue Corn

Nice Big reference.

Young_Scott

Hop in my car, problem! Let me give you a lift!

Blue Corn

This was really good and you are spot on about the "this kid I know loves them" defense. My daughter has them and likes playing with them (mostly, they go to school together), but she did not express any interest in them dolls until I started giving them to her. I have never seen her use the "squeeze their legs" action for anything. We don't have Kylo, but after seeing this video, I kind of want one to dress up as a farmer.

I used to sew clothes for my dolls with my mom as a kid and the sculpted, twitching mess these dolls turned out to be made me shudder even as an adult. You're right, they had a poor grasp on how little girls play, which makes you wonder who the fk was the shotcaller on this project? The Kylo fashion upgrade was a good choice and he needs to be displayed.

I'm waiting for a line of Star Wars-themed pony dolls: "Horses of Destiny."

Brianna Ogas

The game my friend and I played with our Barbies as a kid was called "Statue". We had the 'ugly' barbie as the statue and all the barbies and kens would be on a camping trip at a cabin and they'd make fun of statue. In the middle of the night while all the barbies and kens were sleeping, the 'ugly' statue barbie would come to life and kill them. We had extra barbie parts for dismembering. But dang, they all had some cool outfits on! That being said, Forces of Destiny was a fun idea that was executed poorly. I bought them, because I would have loved them as a kid and I'm stoked to buy merch with Leia/Rey/Padme/etc, but yea, Hasbro really missed the mark with these. I like your idea also, because I think way too often about how they all would interact in the same universe as pre-teens.

I appreciate this video because I am the aunt that buys stuff for her nieces and nephew that I would have loved as a kid but I know deep down that they won't appreciate. I kept the Wonder Woman and Batgirl monster high wanna be dolls I got for them a couple of years ago.

The BabaDuck

Jenny, do you have any thoughts on the Lammily doll?

Sean Kelly

I loved that too! Seems like a topic for next month, thoughts on the old Arrested Development vs the new seasons.

I was a baby theater kid and made all my barbies act out Shakespeare plays from a “Shakespeare for kids” book that made things easier to understand but didn’t sugarcoat things. My mom didn’t like it when I made Ophelia (the pregnant Midge doll) drown herself in the sink.

Jenny Nicholson

She's hideous and her creator is a creepy spiteful man who hates Barbie because she won't go out with him

Jenny Nicholson

I'm guilty of this in that I always want to get kids those imaginext castles and batcaves. When I was a kid I was ecstatic whenever a playset had a trapdoor. I got a lot of mileage out of trapdoor-related drama. Imaginext NEVER misses an opportunity for a trapdoor

I'm 8 years late on this one, but this is one of my favorites from Jenny. Her suggestions of creating a variety of unique characters and using the webisodes to introduce them (i.e. rather than tell half-baked stories) reminded me of Valve's marketing for the video game Team Fortress 2. That game has 9 unique playable classes, and Valve released a "Meet the {class}" video for each one, highlighting their personality and the role they play in-game. Those videos are universally beloved by the players and (I believe) contributed significantly to both the game's sense of community and financial success. It was a little bit sad to think that the executives in charge of toy designs were likely just phoning it in and creating toys that don't really engage a child's creativity.
