Ramble: Jenny @ College

Comments

The Doom Merchant

I have to wait to watch this bc the gf is around and I'm forcing her to become a patron if she wants to witness 👀

Shaun Cheah

Is it just me or did Patreon remove the Community tab? Anyway, hyped for the ramble but just wanted to mention that first.

Chris Dearing

Middle of the way through, starting to sound like I'm being trolled. Medieval tapestries? Catacombs? 😂

sarahserif

the blood typing story has big Twilight energy

Eric MacMillan

The answer to this months video ending question is: no...you don't usually end with a question.

Josh Liam

Any day with a Jenny video is a good day.

Luis

Those were some great stories! Wish I had done more things like that during my time at college. Also I really do hope Star Wars Celebration happens for you it would make a great vid!

Anonymous

Yay! My first official ramble!

Shaun Cheah

Haunted catacombs? Robed midnight woodland gatherings around dilapidated religious iconography? Spontaneous trips to various spooky locations? So Jenny's just a horror movie protagonist whose time hasn't come yet, right?

Lawrence Whiteside

Writing school is a lot of critique and deadlines, which can lead to block. Robert McKee is all you need to read, IMO.

The Doom Merchant

I have a bachelor's in English with a Writing Emphasis I got in 2015, and no, I haven't used it for anything professional. I never even picked up my degree, it's just still sitting in a file cabinet somewhere on campus. I just needed a 4yr degree in SOMETHING, as do we all, and I figured I may as well get it in something I enjoyed. I'm sure my fic readers appreciate the Absolutely Zero Impact it had on my writing.

superb lobster

Jenny, is there a chance we will ever get to read a published Jenny novel or story? I think it would be the first and only book written by a youtuber that I'd ever buy.

Lucia Parks

Wow colleges in America sound so much fun!! Here in Europe they're just classes and exams :/ then again, they're so much cheaper here

Blue Corn

Catacombs? We've been dealing with Tethered Jenny since college apparently.

TalysAlankil

Pretty sure i've said that in another ramble but i SO want to see a descendants video

Sarah Unan

I'm still holding out for a Kissing Booth video

Tobasco da Gama

Catacombs? Archery? Rock climbing? I think you missed your calling as a professional Tomb Raider.

Dundough Breadbox

Makes me wonder if you have written for NaNoWriMo or whether your projects scale similarly, FiW and other scripted work.

Lindsey N.

You could definitely get a regular 5-day pass for Celebration! People sell them all the time in the facebook Celebration group. So disappointed if you can't go! :(

Timothy Morrise

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD Descendants needs a video, I'm pretty sure there's enough meat there

MilesKaySolomon

Graduate school is tough but rewarding. You learn a lot more about your chosen field in graduate courses than in your undergraduate ones.

Hi, I'm kinda late to the Patreon party, but I'm loving the rambles I've watched so far (and “Twilight: The Musical” too!). Sorry this comment is so long (and, yes, rambling), but your question kinda struck a nerve… I graduated with a creative writing and literature-based degree back in the late 90s, and no I haven't really “used” it yet. For some reason I was insane/naive enough to think there was some sort of career ladder for writers... like, I'd get my degree and then apply to the BBC, and hey-presto I’d have a hit sitcom on TV! That is very much not how it works. Luckily, this was back in the mythical days when students here in the UK were actually *given* free grant money to study, rather than having to pay tuition fees themselves, so I certainly didn’t lose anything by going (and really enjoyed the experience, both on and off campus)… but I don’t think I really learned anything about writing that couldn’t be gained from repeated practice and “how to” books either. A college friend of mine went into teaching English, but I just ended up stuck in dead-end manual jobs, because writing’s basically all I want to do (even if nobody ever reads my work), and I can’t dredge up any enthusiasm for any other “career”. I wish I could have predicted how many new avenues for expression the internet was going to open up, and prepared accordingly… all those years I wasted typing/posting scripts into an uncaring void, when I could have been honing my prose to self-publish novels, or my doodling to make webcomics! Ack! Anyhoo, for what it's worth, you're one of my favourite presenters/critics across any medium, so it's crazy to me that convention/exhibition organisers aren’t chasing you to attend their events! Haven’t they seen the “My Little Pony Movie Premiere” video!? That was frickin’ adorable!

Patrick Lee

Im actually considering going to a school that sounds like this (university of portland) so this was a nice ramble to hear. Thank, Jenny!

Trust me, the descendants films have A LOT to dissect. Easily a 45-1hr video honestly. I would love to see you do a video on it in a purple wig

Anonymous

been having a bad week and the notification for this video made my day!! thank you!

Luis

Making an activities list is such a simple yet brilliant idea! I'm going to get started on one right away to consult when my friends and I are bored. Thanks for the great suggestion!

Creative Writing BFA here. Basically, the best part of any writing degree is the workshop experience. Feedback is priceless, especially when it's from people who care about the craft as much as you do. It can enrich your writing a lot; but, it's not necessary to write in general, like you said. Do what feels right, man.

Meredith Sutton

I also went to a small Catholic school that we compared to Hogwarts!

Shred Cadmium

Yep, gone for me too - I know Patreon has plans to shake things up a bit with new “features” and so forth (‘cos 💵) so maybe it’s linked to that

Em

lol your dissection story reminded me of my biological psych class (i was also a psych major, im actually just about to finish school!), we had to dissect a sheep brain and a cow eye. my lab partner was like you and really squeamish so i did all the dissecting while she filled out the worksheet.

Eric

I'm leaving everything in the comments

dwayneotron

how about some Boba Fettucini?

1000thghost

This is best part of my day.

Jonathan Baldie

Thanks Jenny, good work! I noticed you seem to have really recovered well too.

Steve Ray

I hope Star Wars Land will have some kind of themed drink kiosk, like "Boba Fett's Boba Shack," where you can "Hunt Down All 8 Flavors" and get an official bounty hunter's badge.

Devin Beliveau

I graduated with a degree in writing and communication 10 years ago and I haven’t used it once. I’m now a software developer 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hannah Q.

Did anyone else watch the movie Us (by Jordan Peele)? Because I’m not so sure if this Jenny is the real Jenny or her doppelganger. The construction of her school, with the underground tunnels and facilities that are “twin of the school”, and even urban legends about students getting lost down there and going mad...This is the exact setting of Us. And “Jenny” just said she had been down there before.

Neil Dutton

So a haunted college has samples of your blood and a map of your brain? The catacombs are definitely filled with Jenny clones, that we are only safe from because they are all terrible at archery.

Lejla

But if theres ever any rock obstacles or climbing sequences you're screwed

Anonymous

I think it's very on brand that you lead the charge into the catacombs, then lead the charge TF outta there.

Anonymous

If you had grown up Catholic, then you would have heard all of the stories over and over again over the years, in church and Catholic school classes. If not, you would probably have a lot of catch-up reading to do for a course like that. The teacher might have thought that non-Catholics took the course just to coast, and wouldn't be prepared for the extra workload. It probably wasn't a personal thing.

Josh Liller

Hopefully you at least learned to be an effective communicator? That's an uncommon skill.

Steve Ray

If the Jenny we see in these videos is the bestial doppleganger version, imagine how friendly and considerate the original must have been.

James Murphy

I also have a Bachelors in Psychology I’ve never used. After graduating I sort of wandered into my first job and worked on my skills from there.

Whiskerbuns

I really hope a Dumbo video is on that list too

Julia Collins

I haven't seen Descendants but I feel obliged to comment on behalf of a friend who LOVES them but also says they're TERRIBLE to say yes, you should do that. My friend enthusiastically says you should do that.

August Dunphy

I'm getting my degree in Psychology and also English!

Annie

Okay but the catacombs sound a lot like the movie US

simrell

i like when you tell stories about your life! we both went to a private catholic school despite not being catholic, so i feel you. mine was probably much bigger tho (DePaul in Chicago). luckily our required religious course could be ANY religious course, not just catholic themed. there was also a cult right off campus that had rumors of students getting abducted. our creepy statue was called "giant hands man" or "baby crusher hands" because his hands were like 1/3rd the size of his overall body lol.

Anonymous

is this not available anymore?

Tori

I watched this and I'm confused because like who has time for fun things when you've got homework and projects and studying
