Hey everybody! Here is our ramble for the month of july!

Thank you all for another month of support, and I hope I'll see you all in august.

Also, as I mention in the video I now have a twitch account! There's no set schedule for it yet, but I'm looking forward to trying that out more.

Things I think are true (but aren't true)

Comments

Legend of Retro

Your experience watching the Fear Factory stuff sounds like what I have "vasovagal syncopee" which is a mix of vomiting, fainting and seizures all in once due to witnessing extreme suffering. Also as a child my parents told me if you ate water melon seeds the plant would grow out of your ears, I literally believed this till my late teens. :/

Yamon

Wow, came to relax before bed, but I'm just traumatized xD

kalyn avery

The sandwich book is called “Sam’s Sandwich” by David Pelham. In case someone wants some light reading.

Robert Romero Jr

If jenny ever needs a friend to just go to another country just for theme parks all day every day that’s me. I am that friend.

Tayen

Iago was your favorite character??? My very dear friend, Will Finn, created Iago. He also did Cogsworth. He’s on IG under @WilltheFinn.

Frankie Gallagher

Hearing Jenny's headcanon about the afterlife is fascinating

The Latter Day Autist

I had the exact same misinformation about bugs burrowing into fruits and was afraid of eating them, but it began with the idea of worms in apples. I blame the hungry caterpillar. As a kid, I had that condition that causes dogs to guard their food when they're eating. Food anxiety, I think. It's because my brother would pretend like he was going to spit it me or in my food.

The Latter Day Autist

The thing about reading the safety brochure rings true. Thinking about eventualities and how you should react to them is, like, a way to preprogram your subconscious mind or something. What Kahneman would call System One.

CPK Grownup

That sandwich book would’ve scarred me for life

Hachiware

At Tokyo Joypolis there is a signed photograph of Tobey Maguire (2002) on the top floor at shin height (so you need to squat to look properly) and he has a bewildered look, caught off-guard by the photographer. To me, this is his peak.

Daniel Stephan

I had that Sam’s Sandwich book as a kid too. Terrifying.

Bill Lehecka

I caught a minute or two of your first Twitch stream. You’ll be pwning n00bz in no time. Is that how the kids say it? #ImOld

Shred Cadmium

I feel sure if you did meet Tobey Maguire that would be catalysis for his redemption arc

Josh Liam

I just wanna say I checked out the Twitch stream, and while I've never played Roblox before now I definitely will.

Austin

You’re thinking of Aaron Sorkin’s film Molly’s Game. Molly Bloom was running a high-stakes poker game in the back room of a night club, and yes, Tobey Maguire was one of the initial participants. It’s believed that he was the jerk, but he also brought in several A-listers to the game (DiCaprio, etc.), so it could’ve very well been a different male actor. However, the general consensus is that it was the Tobes. And oddly enough, Michael Cera played the A-lister jerk in the film (only really referred to as the A-List actor involved). Michael Cera. Of all people, the man who radiates the energy of looking like he’s wearing a pair of well-tailored khaki pants without physically wearing khaki pants.

Matt Reynolds

In regard to return of Jafar, I think kids tend to like follow up stories more than the original or at least appreciate them as more then shameless cash grabs. There's something exciting about getting to see more of those characters you loved. Hell I grew up with and still maintain the first season of the ewoks cartoon and the first ewoks movie are good. I mean I know they're not but I like them. The second season and second movie though are just bad.

Callie Koch

Trying to watch this while falling asleep was the worst decision re: all the eating spiders talk

Andrew Zimmer

I'm about half way through and I just wanted to say that this ramble is hilarious. Maybe you should consider doing a version of this as a public video

Ren ☆

My twitch confusion caused my to uh “friend” you? So disregard that lmao

mollu

heya, i'm a new patron, just wanted to let you know that your first ramble video (dec 2017) is exclusive to the $5 tier and above

Daniel Staniforth

I misread the title at first and I thought you were going to make up fake Jenny facts to trick Wikipedia

PogieJoe

The Return of Maguire

PogieJoe

I wonder why that is. Maybe because the characters are already established? They don't have to wait around through much boring exposition. Their faves are basically ready for another adventure.

Matt Reynolds

I think in part it's very much because they're established. I think kids also have a tendency to view these not just as fictional characters but as their friends. It's why for kids who grew up with the original transformers cartoon show, the 80s animated movie was so scaring, you're literally seeing these characters who are like friends to you being slaughtered. It's also though why no matter how many scooby doo cartoons they make using almost the same formula kids will love it, it's new adventures with their friends.

Ford Prefect

I also fell into the moon goo.

Luis

Loved this ramble so many funny stories! And Jenny is cool 😎 My weird childhood fear was being told that if I swallow the seeds from fruits a tree would start growing out of my stomach. I think my parents didn't want me to accidentally choke on a seed but it scared me enough to not want to eat certain fruits.

Magical Girl Mel

Haha. I would totally travel to just go to theme parks. My family was potentially going to spend some time in Detroit since my mom had a conference to go to and my only thought was to figure out how close to cedar point that was.

asapaints

this was a much more insect-based ramble than I was expecting, but I’m not complaining

Edwin Moses Jackson

I had no idea the Boysenberry was manufactured. Interesting. Also, wait... You own a horse?! I liked War Horse too. But it isn't like something I feel I have to watch again. You are very cool, Jenny! I don't think I saw Return of Jafar, but I did see and like King of Thieves. The lighting looks cool.

Brier

I’m excited for future Twitch streams!

Mimi

idk if this is helpful at all but when I knock my glasses off my bedside table and can't see well enough to find them, I've started using my phone camera to zoom in and find them. Of course, this only works if you know where your phone is/sleep with it right beside you (which yes I know you're not supposed to do), but it was a little bit revolutionary for me so I thought I'd share.

Daniel OConnell

when I was a kid I would have to carefully cut out certain parts of deli corn beef fat because if it got in my mouth I would always think it was a fly wing and throw up.

Dee Crosier

Most adorable ramble yet! (And that’s a very high bar to clear, imho) I can totally relate to the bleary-eyed glasses-hunting, as I’m also very near-sighted and always seem to pick a different random place to put them down in my room, rather than choosing a consistent spot where I know they’ll be… on the other hand, every time I lose them I’m reminded of Velma from “Scooby Doo”, and she was/is the coolest, so… there’s that, at least…! And, yes, I for one would be interested in a video about BronyCon, and your history with it… tho I don’t really know anything about Bronies or the convention itself, outside of what I’ve gleaned from your previous vids… I just love the word “anypony”, and humbly request that you use it as often as possible... :)

AllieCat

There was also a notorious DC mayor named Marion Barry. He was caught doing drugs with sex workers and put in jail. Then he got re-elected.

Matt Keil

Last Christmas after all the presents were opened at my sister's house, she decided to make everyone eggs and waffles for breakfast. She served everyone eggs and then a stack of waffles for everyone to take from. I ate my eggs first, everyone else dug into the waffles. When it came time to eat my waffle, I noticed it was oddly burned around the edges, looked closer, and realized that the "burned" parts were dozens of tiny beetles that had been in the waffle iron she had forgotten to clean off before using. The moral is, if you always eat your eggs first, you'll be the only one who doesn't eat bug waffles on Christmas.

Jerry Nicholson

As the video continues, the woman on screen explains why she would never take the suggestion Andrew had just made.

RichterCa

They filmed Wonder Boys in my hometown, and I was one of a few students from my school who go to visit a location shoot. Michael Douglas was very nice, and listened to my teacher ramble for a minute, and we got his autograph. Tobey Maguire just rudely stormed past us to his trailer. A week later I heard on the radio that he had recently been ranked one of the worst celebs for giving autographs.

Jellykoe

All the eating bugs talk made me queasy. I remember seeing the movie “Mousehunt” in theaters and there’s a part where one of the characters bites into something and there’s half a roach wriggling so that really got to me. Also, I’ve never been to BronyCon but I have also gone to one of the MLP fairs and it was delightful. I hope to go back when it’s held closer to home.

F W Pancakes

Save the Lion King for when Cats comes out! There's cross-over potential

James Murphy

When I was a teenager someone told me the hoverboards from Back to the Future were real and I believed that for years. I can only hope I'm less gullible now but maybe I'll never know.

Savanna Gaines

I was so gullible as a kid. I once walked in on my dad watching Predator, and I think one of the characters had the three red dots(the gun) on them and then died. My dad came up to me with his three fingers and playfully put them on my forehead saying "if three red dots are ya, you're dead!!" For years I just thought if I had a triangle of red dots appear on me I was gonna get sick and die

Patrick Lee

now your fear that Avatar: Valley of Moara grub gummy makes way more sense (I mean it already made sense, but now... more I guess)

Megan Smart

I feel your pain. I love theme parks but my husband gets motion sickness so he can't do a ton of rides and he's not the biggest theme park fan anyways. > . >

Devin M

Spiders in certain grapes is a thing. And the reason you hear about it a lot is because the most common spider found in grapes is the black widow, which is obviously dangerous. I’ve found spiders in grapes and raspberries.

Sordahon

jeez so much spider talk in this one, it’s really got me on edge

ts_babyjane

heroin is marion's economy

Holly Ann

I also came here to be like "you have a horse?!?!"

Holly Ann

.... is that the horse Olly borrowed?

Avia Lewis

At all costs, do not let Jenny see this

Ben

The spider talk reminded me to reccomend 'Children of Time'. It's a sci-fi book and there's lots of spider perspective narrating.

Steve Ray

OMG what a great video! 😁 The tip on [not setting up punch lines for Death] was pure brilliance, and something we should all be vigilant of.

Neil Dutton

Giant Porg is resigned to a life of turmoil.

Jordan Wyn

Hi Jenny, I live in Tokyo and will totally go with you to 100% theme parks if you visit.

Dundough Breadbox

I need a time machine for going back and unmissing things. Unmissing: not a word, until time machines.

Dundough Breadbox

Maybe some show runner will pick up your Grim Reaper series.

Luis

I really do like the lighting in this video. The Toy Story 4 vid had shadows everytime Jenny moved her hands which didn't detract from yet another great video, but were noticable. Also I'm never eating egg salad sandwiches again :/

Steve Ray

Elevator pitch: "Pushing Daisies meets Curb Your Enthusiasm"...?

Jack

Horses definitely understand birthdays

Dundough Breadbox

Tell me about this "Pushing Daisies", we have seven more floors...

Alex

My friend just last month found a spider in her grape bag :( However it's summer so your mom was still wrong

Miri

<3!! Omg please come to Japan we will give u 3 weeks of our time for theme parks and food! LOL. For real though I haven't been to a lot of theme parks but disney sea is rad and its next sega joypolis too... I also know some REALLY awful theme parks which can be quite an adventure. (petition to get jenny to come to japan......) Anyway thanks for the vid, you are cool!!!!

Miri

Side Note we also still have a big MLP con in Japan wink wonk

T

the lighting is gooood!

Alex the Naysayer

I just want to say the twitch streams are probably one of my favorite content pieces you release

Dave

I love these rambles, they're so good and instantly gets me in a great mood. Jenny is the ultimate antidepressant :)

Steve Ray

Well, Pushing Daisies was about seeing your ex at your job every day...but your job is "The Angel Of Death." So a bittersweet rom-com with supernatural elements,..Death still loves her, but she'll die forever if they even hold hands. Quirky and sweet! Like we thought Tim Burton was when we were in junior high! Air it Friday nights, when all the lonely people are sitting at home, wistfully.

Steve Ray

The moon goo is warm and relaxing, like a trip to the day spa.

5in100ents

I forgot what the topic was during the grape spider part of the ramble and thought the topic was "Things Jenny's Scared of". Needless to say, the next couple spots on the list made me very confused.

Alive_in_tucson

Does anyone know if you can sub to progamerjenny on Twitch yet?

Eric MacMillan

You can follow her but not subscribe yet.

Shaun Cheah

According to a tweet the other day, Twitch rejected her for partnership so it might be a while before subscriptions happen.

Alexandra Dimit

Sam’s Sandwich!!!! The best book. Also a huge fan of the sequel: Sam’s Snack which featured beach critters.

Benjamin Stone

I fucking hate spiders so now grapes are upsetting too thank you Jenny I appreciate you very much

Benjamin Stone

“I loved spiders as a kid”: horrifying, terrible, would make me regret this patreon subscription except your content is just good enough to overcome my spider revulsion

bug

iM so sad you didnt go to the mlp fair, it was my first time going and it was incredible! (im kidding abt actually being sad tho lmao i totally understand your reasoning for not going) did you hear abt the new pony convention for next year? its in texas (and the mlp fair is happening again next year which is cool bc it wasnt confirmed for a while)

Monica McFadden

I feel you on the MLP Fair being too far away. Recently I heard about a "Pony Friends Forever" fair that is going to be in San Antonio next June (still with that "toy collector" vibe . . . They are having custom G1 style ponies made for it and they're really cute.) I also feel like bugs have feelings. I mean when you think about it fear is a great evolutionary tool to keep you alive, even if you're a bug.

pickleslikely

Why did I have to come back and read the comments from a month ago why god why

Hannah S.

That movie you’ve mentioned is called “Molly’s Game” which is about the underground semi-illegal poker games run by Molly Bloom. I liked it so much that I went and read the book on which it is based. It was a good book too (though I like the movie more because of Jessica Chastain). But oh boy, Tobey is a BAD bad guy in both the movie and the original book. And especially in the book, he is bad in such a realistic way (greedy, selfish, paranoid, sexist) that I’m 90% sure that the author, Molly Bloom herself, is not lying.

Michael DeBellis

What we call fear is a product of certain parts of the brain like the amygdala and certain neurotransmitters. So it’s likely other mammals and vertebrates have fear because their brains aren’t all that different from ours but probably not insects. Insects mostly have a small set of stereotypical behaviors (run away, fight, mate) that are triggered by the environment. It’s why moths can inadvertently kill them selves by flying into a flame, they are programmed by evolution to fly toward a light source, which worked well before pesky humans took over the planet. And I know that’s way more nerdy than anyone cares about, can’t help it, I love rambling on about anything scientific.

Michael DeBellis

New patron, just binged through all your rambles, now watching them again. Just had to say that Sandwich book and the spider book sound awful. It’s kind of amazing How weird some of the things written for kids are.

ThoondarKat

I thought I was the only one who liked Tobey Maguire as 2002 Spider-Man

Libby

we have had wildly different praying mantis experiences. we have giant invasive ones from (i think) china and they are so horrifying. they eat birds! little birds!

Tori

Reading the airplane pamphlets is important! As a transportation safety nerd, it's incredibly important that you know where your lifejacket is, as it can be different for the same model of plane in the same fleet! It's absolutely wild! One of the NTSB board members mentioned that.

Loot & Lute

This comment is forever months late BUT! I went to school where the marionberry was invented - it's a semi-big deal in Oregon. The school is actually in Benton county but bentonberry probably didn't sound very good. The university's mascot is the beaver - and beaverberry sounds even worse. But Oregon's capitol city is in Marion county so- there you go.

Podkayne of Fourth Dimensional Mars

I'm super nearsighted too, and I saw online years ago a list of useful things to do with your phone's camera, and one of them is look for your glasses. You can look at the screen as close as you need to and the screen will show you a clear picture of the floor/shelf/etc.
