Hi all! This month the higher-tier patrons have selected "Jenny plays Nancy Drew Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon" as the winning topic.

But I haven't done a playthrough style video for patreon before and am uncertain what format people will find entertaining, or how if at all it should be edited down. Since all patrons will be watching the video I figured I would open the floor to all your input before I record.

*Please note that if option 3 wins it'll have to be left until Thursday 2/3 at the earliest as my sister offered to help with stream hosting/moderation and that's when she's next free. (Or, if everybody wants to push it later to have it fall on a weekend that is also possible, please indicate in comments)

Imo, edited down is better if the whole stream ends up being 2+ hours. Any shorter than that and it's not worth the time to edit it down.

I think the raw footage would be fun to watch! Lots of people upload full unedited versions of their let’s play streams and it’s really fun, as long as you like watching that creator. Maybe wouldn’t be good as a main channel option, but I think everyone here on the Patreon is a big enough fan that we would be here for that content! :)

I didn't understand how highlights are winning since we love to see you ramble Jenny, but as someone mentioned perhaps options 1 and 3 are splitting the votes. Plenty of let's players don't edit their stuff and i personally prefer that! ☺️

1) I just gasped SO LOUD I'm delighted 2) Gab Smolders does playthroughs of Nancy Drew games on Twitch and then lightly edits them for YouTube, you could take a look at one of those for an idea of what might work!

Also I agree with what someone said above, option 1 and 3 are very similar, so even though 2 appears to be winning at the moment I think most people would prefer to see the entire game rather than just highlights, whichever way you want to do it.

If edited down wins please also put out the raw footage. I have a hard time with edited game playthroughs because they're too engaging for background content but not engaging enough to focus on. Unedited stuff is the perfect kind of chill content for doing the dishes or tidying up.

As far as option 2 is concerned, sometimes people edit down the footage if there is a particular uneventful part of the footage and edit that out. “Highlight” may be a bit subjective. This could mean there may not be a lot of editing depending on what happens regarding your commentary or what happens in game.

I've watched many Nancy Drew livestreams and due to the nature of the game being very puzzle heavy, a LOT of backseat gaming tends to happen, whether you want it to or not. I'd really like to see a video if only for your purest reaction to this iconic game and iconic game series.

As others have said, if you go for the edited version it would be great if you could upload the uncut version as well. I love long let's plays/streams to have on while I'm doing other things and, depending how it's edited, I find highlights less engaging because I want all the context lol. Ultimately though whatever you find easier to do or think you'd enjoy the most is fine by me!

okay I'm definitely being annoying now but last thought - someone mentioned that Nancy games invite a lot of backseat gaming which is very true, so if that would bother you you should just do a recording and save yourself the annoyance

I think since the point of rambles is that they're meant to be less work for Jennie, an unedited version makes most sense. Whether that's a livestream archive or pre-recorded doesn't matter much to me.

For option 2, will we still get to see the whole story, or will it be more of a compilation of your favorite moments? I’d like to follow along with the story, but I’m okay with editing down segments that are boring or long

I really think the Livestream would be SO fun. Especially if your sister would be willing to be the designated chat person to cut down on noise. Like if there's a question that she thinks is good or a comment that was funny, she would read it to you but otherwise you don't see the chat and the inevitable backseat gaming or get bogged down with questions and comments. But that would be a lot of pressure on your sister. The edited version may be a lot of extra work or it may be just cutting out time spent going in a circle because the next thing you need to do wasn't obvious. Since I'm not really sure how much work it would be for you and I don't mind sitting through or manually fast forwarding through long silent parts, I don't really think editing is necessary. So it really comes down to how much audience participation would you be willing to put up with? Also I vote definitely stream on a weekend if at all possible.

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and say that I prefer the edited option (even tho most people voted for it so far) because... 1) I have assignments and exams at university right now and I don't have much time for livestreams and playthroughs- and those things are usually long- and I have a short attention span so yeah. 2) I feel like an edited video might be more useful for people like me who are barely familiar with Nancy Drew. I just think instead of the dead spaces, having like a video that shows what's this game from your POV sounds more entertaining and informal I guess. Plus in my opinion, part of the quality of your videos is your editing with the jumpcuts lol. Anyway, still down for whatever wins

As somebody who watched people do full let’s play of Nancy Drew games in the past, I would be down for an unedited experience. I think this is an overall entertaining game to watch compared to some of the other ones I’ve seen

Omg yes. I've played almost every HeR Nancy Drew game, and I am so excited for this. I voted for a livestream because I think it would be fun, but realistically you should probably do an edited video. The Nancy Drew games are very similar to the Vampire Diaries game (though much better, from the looks of that one) and involve a fair bit of going around in circles, retrying dialogue trees and clicking various things until you find the interaction that unlocks the next puzzle/plot beat.

I voted option 3 but I would also be fine with option 1. I'm guessing a lot of people are in this same boat (just wanting an unedited version) and it's giving the edited version an artificial lead. If option 2 does win I hope you'll still be willing to upload the unedited video.

Everyone’s saying options 1 and 3 are splitting votes and I understand the reason, but my 2 cents is that prerecorded let’s plays and live streams have much different vibes, especially if there is a guest on the stream as well. Id love a combination of 1 and 2 but voted for 1 because whatever gives us maximum Jenny content is always best! Also if just curious, how do Patreon only lives streams even work?

Basically it would have to be hosted on youtube instead of twitch, and then linked like an unlisted video. Although patreon recently did a creator survey that hinted at them adding an ability to stream directly on patreon 👀

How long is the game? I don't mind any option, but a livestream might be difficult for everyone to make it to. Anything sounds good really though, as we could always watch the livestream later and that wouldn't be much different than option 1.

As mentioned above (and commented on by Jenny), the hybrid version makes everyone happy. I don’t think there’s anyone not willing to wait until the weekend (or a little later) if it means the Nicholson sisters together again. I just wanted to add that if there’s an edited highlights version, it could potentially be posted on the main YouTube channel, where it would be great content, but also a stealth ad for Jenny’s Patreon. I know I wouldn’t feel cheated as a Patreon supporter if everyone else occasionally gets a sense of what we get behind the garden wall!

Yeah, I'm personally just not really interested in the full version. (Although I'm not a game person in general, so maybe that's just me.) Her recent rambles on The Christmas Prince 3 and the J.K. Rowling movie were edited, and I thought that format worked pretty well.

At first I voted for just the highlights, but then I saw that this game takes 4.5 hours to beat and really wouldn't want Jenny to have to edit that down. I'm voting for the livestream instead. Ultimately, I choose whatever is easiest and takes least time away from Jenny making her main-channel stuff.

I feel like the same logic can be used to say the people who want a recorded playthrough are also splitting their votes, and 70% of the voters don't want a live stream. I also think its worth noting that since people can see the results and change their vote, the fact that some people are sticking with option 1 even when they see its losing indicates that they dont mind if option 3 is losing to option 2, because otherwise they could just switch their vote to 3.

I looked up the play time and it’s about 5h30’. It sounds like it’d be more fun for everyone if you can livestream it and interact with your sister! It’s a lot of raw footage to edit and I don’t want you to suffer like so. I’d appreciate the archived footage because I’m all the way in Japan and likely won’t be able to catch the whole thing.

I voted for only highlights, so that's what I want - but you know what? Like others have said, #1 and #3 actually win out over highlights if you add them together. I would not mind if you didn't do highlights and you did the full playthrough, since it looks like that is the actual majority. (But as always, do whatever is best for you!)
