Bonus: Galactic Starcruiser Predictions

Comments

Tbone MacKay

watching this today, just a few days after seeing Jenny's full review, is a bit heart-breaking. so few of her hopes and dreams came true, and the reasons why are hard to understand.

Valociraptor

Took the words out of my mouth! Side note: I'm here because I didn't realize there have been regular Patreon videos this whole time, until she personally attacked me at the end of the new Starcruiser video... So I'd been randomly bouncing around the --8 years of accumulated Ramble videos-- trying to decide where I wanted to dip my toe in. Randomly browsed directly to this one almost immediately, and it seemed so apropos.

Atheist Addiction

You were right about the pop star but missed the real star of the show … the pillar.

Jesús G

It’s fine, we got a great 4 hour Jenny video out of it and she got probably her most successful video ever, so it’s all good

AshFerraz

Aw this video makes me sad after watching the star cruiser video a few times😢 you had such high hopes and they really gave you absolutely nothing

jess f

jesus christ this makes me so sad 😭 they really let you down at every single turn and you were so excited 😭😭😭

Lynn!

Having watched the full video, this feels kind of like the moment in a video game where you walk into a place where Something Wrong Has Clearly Happened and spot a notebook by some zany professor detailing the moments before Something Wrong Happened. 10/10, I wish the hotel had more animatronics

PurpleIsDebeste

Coming back after the video's released and it's wild how she correctly predicted that the Atrium would be on a big hydraulic system and the whole room would tilt when the ship was hit by an asteroid! i'd never have guessed they'd do something like that! it was so cool!

Maddy

oh my god

Reese

We're so spoiled!!! Thank you for doing both! 😄

emchovy

Love it!! 💗💗💗💗

Minnie

yesssss thank you!!! 🥰🥰

Nat Currey

seems like the video was flagged as kids content for some reason 🤔

Edgar Allan‘s Hoe

Never watched starwars but I‘m still really happy people got their wish!

Theme Park Review

I honestly cannot wait for your full review of the Starcruiser!

Olivia

THANK YOU JENNY

Jaz Mei Luo

Just got broken up with so I kinda needed 2 new Jenny videos in a row thank you so much

Katie Kraynak

BEST SURPRISE EVER CRYING 😭 thank you queen

Sarah H

manifesting a porg sighting for jenny

Danielle Sherman

Jenny Starcruiser Video Release Day is going to be a holiday in my household, can’t wait!

Jamie

I feel like I would want a Sleep No More level experience and would be disappointed. Thanks for doing 2 this month!!

Sgt Sweetcheeks

The entire channel she's posting her rambles to is flagged for kids because it's the only way to keep people from adding them to public playlists. An inelegant solution but to a real problem 🤷🏻

Andrew Kraut

Re: Tracking the magic bands - A good friend did a bunch of InfoSecurity work on the Magic Bands when they were first introduced. The short version is that Disney didn't want an employee to be able to track any one individual. There's lots of bad press that could come from it, and Disney is generally allergic to that. (Imagine someone tracking their ex through the park.) So there are lots of controls in place preventing individual tracking due to the privacy issues. However, they do use the tracking in a lot of interesting ways to judge crowd levels throughout the park, general movement patterns, and more recently to feed some of the Genie+ stuff. Now, take all of this with a grain of salt, as I'm clearly parroting stuff second hand as I recall it from someone who told me stuff over the course of a few years...

Jenny Nicholson

That's kind of ironic because I did once have a legitimate security issue while staying at disney world, because somebody knowing only that I was there and my first and last name was able to pull up my entire itinerary. They didn't need my booking confirmation number or anything you'd expect them to need Edit to add I don't think they really meant anything by it and nothing bad happened and I didn't want to get them in trouble, but it really unnerved me how much info they casually had access to when they had no need for any of that info for their particular job. Also including which hotel I was staying at which I had not posted anywhere online, and which they casually brought up in conversation lol

Jenny Nicholson

Yeah I'm hoping youtube some day just gives me a checkbox for "disable embedding in playlists" but for now this is the only solution

AK Barratt

Man in retrospect everything in Galaxy's Edge really does scream "budget cuts" doesn't it? Not convinced Galactic Starcruiser is going to be the exception either...

Andrew Kraut

Oh geez! So an employee went looking you up? Oof, yeah. That's a big problem I've worked to solve before. Too many companies assume that once you're an employee the Code of Conduct policy is enough, but if managers don't have the balls to fire people that break it, it's not even worth the paper it's printed on. I used to work for a ride-sharing company and we did lots of work to separate the identity of riders from the ride data itself. I think you need two additional approvals, one from your manager and one from a privacy legal team, to be able to connect the two. We didn't want employees to be able to figure out home/work/whatever addresses of customers or to track them through the city.

Ren ☆

Omg this has been building up for so long I’m so excited for you to go

david morales

A BONUS video? In MY patreon feed? It's more likely than you think.

Chantal

Double video!! Thank you, we really appreciate the effort.

BZZY93

same boat

BZZY93

can't wait!!! hope it goes good

Ben Allred

Not the juiciest of leaks, but I know someone who was going to be a bartender on the cruise. Apparently upper management has been really freaking out and changing a lot of things at the last second (they actually got let go due to last minute downsizing). They used to have a really interesting menu of weird and alien looking cocktails, but that has been scrapped and a lot of the original items have been replaced with more traditional cocktails (they'll probably have star wars-y names though). Also, one of the execs was apparently weirdly intent on adding more gin drinks, seemingly just because they really like gin.

Becca Wolyniec

i can’t figure out what that squishmallow on the desk is and it’s bugging me lmao

RinZombie

Regardless of what they do and do not have there, I hope you have fun and am excited to hear about it!

Penguin Gabe

Lol I appreciate your hopefullness every time you uncover what this trip is going to actually be like, 100 percent guarantee nothing happens in sections not orange

Kenzie Ann

So excited for your full video on the experience!!

Joe Cumbo

And just like that, a fragile peace between Star Wars and Sandra Lee fans was brokered

Bryan Sutton

In regards to #12, I'm very curious to hear how they present in-story emergencies and how they're differentiated from real life ones. Doing safety orientation in an in-story manner does sound fun, but I wonder if that would cause any confusion. If a fire is set, will the alarms go off and all the guest will think "ooh, how fun?"

Laura Elizabeth

So excited to hear your review! I'm really curious about one thing most of the chatter seems to be missing- how the fellow guests can make or break the experience. I've done character improv acting before and there's always some edgy kid or parent who will try to break the magic every second for no reason. Or ask about a character's wig. Or ask what kind of car a character drives 'in real life'. And we all know there's going to be those kids or spouses that were dragged along who unironically ask if the characters know Spock. And if it's anything like an escape room... Well, even if it's nailed down, it won't stop people from trying to break it in pursuit of a clue. The cast members have a lot more to deal with than most people realize. Also: How long until someone goes to the hotel playing a spice dealer?

Jesús G

I hope that the star cruiser thing ends up being better than people are expecting. But all the updates about extra add ons and costs (not to mention all the rumors of severe budget cuts and changes) makes that seem unlikely. I just don’t want the people who splurged on it hoping for it to be a wonderful family experience to end up regretting it or feeling ripped off. I just want to believe that some things in this world can still feel like magic, like a fully immersive role playing vacation 😔

ohgodthepandas

having worked for the company for years on the other coast, all of this sounds plausible

T. Fazekas

I’m following the Kevin Perjurer canon that Batu is just a cruise stop in the Star Wars universe. It’s why it’s full of touristy souvenirs from tel things in-universe. The Halcyon going there is now confirmation

Dani

Most likely in a real emergency, all the immersive sounds and visuals would go away and the "stage lights" would come up like in a theater. So, instead of being in a dark room with a viewport showing stars, you'd be in a fluorescent-lighting-bright room with a blank screen, and the omni-present hum of the engines is gone, and the cast members are suddenly acting like not their characters.

sagaevan

we should all evenly distribute our votes so that jenny makes every video possible

Cynethryth

Thank you for the extra video! The info about the app that eats your battery via bluetooth is wild to me. Just sounds like poor implementation that they will never fix. Hope that whatever the trip is like, you have fun. 😊

Andrew Hill

Really enjoyed both of these txtx - Sandra voters, star wars voters, gj gj

Al

I believe it's from Dragon Quest? It looks like it.

Alexis

Saw a spoiler-free review that said you can talk to guest services if you're not on a story path that you wanted to be and they can sort of subtly switch you over. She said you can do it in character too, and saw someone say something like "my friend was sent on this mission and I wanted to get in on it". Seems like a very good thing to know if you're worried about wasting your thousands of dollars on a rigged card game plot line.

Alexis

lol so true, I love when you see escape rooms where there's a box or something and it's all chipped on the edges and nailed down and you can tell that despite signage, and the pleas of the employees, that people keep prying it off the floor

Luis

Thanks so much for the bonus video and I hope you have a good time on the starcruiser!

Dan Gibbins

Hooray for double ramble! Thank you for spoiling us this one time. There seemed to be a lot of "Here's what I hope they do, but they'll probably do this" in the predictions. Makes me think the ensuing video (which I'm confident will be great and I'm excited for) will have basically the same theme as my Book of Boba Fett review: "There are some many better things this could have been if they could have been bothered to try." Now that I say that the hotel would probably also be much better with more Timothy Olyphant.

Dan Gibbins

Nice to know they have some solution in place for "I don't like the storyline of my $6000 hotel stay" other than "You can always come back and try something else."

ts_babyjane

I SAW ON A VLOG THAT they takwe you too a "dragoonqueest" and after the first day it's an incredible unprecidented dragon quest roleplay/simulation experience but they dont mention starwars ever again.

Georgina Storey

Ordinary Adventures went to the two-day media preview and they show how this works in their first video, if you're curious. I won't say anything else in case you're trying to stay spoiler-free but if you're not, I recommend checking out their video series on Youtube. They're a lovely couple.

Alive_in_tucson

Hey, I’m with the Resistance. Shhhhhh…

Laura Elizabeth

@alexis Yup, the stories I've heard from escape room employees are pretty crazy. It doesn't matter how much they hold your hand, people will find a way to do something crazy. There's going to be that, on top of the sliver of guests who may get *too* much into the roleplaying aspects of things, in addition to a small group of people with particularly high disposable income who booked the trip because it was luxury/exclusive but didn't understand what it really was. (Cue culture shock that they're forced to be participating with random other guests for the entirety of the trip.) I see all the reviews focusing on the building/food/story, but I really think the 'open to anyone who can gather the money' element is getting overlooked. On a regular cruise it's easier to do your own thing, hangout in your room, hide in quiet lounge, spend more time away from the ship... Here, you're almost stuck with whoever's assigned to your schedule. It can be fun, for sure... But it depends on the type of group. And I'm really, really curious about the wide range of people this hotel will attract in coming weeks/months.

PamperYamper

Yay bonus ramble! I am excited to experience this vicariously through you. It seems like the kind of experience where there's so much (finacial) pressure to have a good time..

Jiminy’s Journal

If this isn’t like Ship of Ghouls, what’s the point?

Joel Eblin

Don't worry Jenny, I haven't read and seen any information on the Star Wars hotel, but I am sending over good vibes so that the floor does move!

M

Do you predict that you'll enjoy it? That's the one thing I'm still not sure of

Becca H

It's really interesting to me that Disney has invested so much in a roleplay experience to this scale. Obviously it's impossible to compare them, but I would've thought that something mission/quest-based like Evermore or similar LARPing experiences would stay relatively fringe. I wonder how Starcruiser will inform other large scale roleplaying experiences in the future?

JoeySnowyNoey

I haven’t seen much about this, I’ve seen little clips and stuff but overall idk how this looks to me. Hopefully you’ll be able to film but I’m curious to see what it’s about. I also wonder how dad friendly this experience is, like if you just wanted to sleep all day would you be technically allowed? I know my dad would be annoyed by having this do a bunch of random stuff. Lol

Kate

I feel like I theory I would love to go do an experience like starcruiser but in reality there’d probably be some annoying guest that would be in my group that I would be stuck with. I’m 100% sure that there would be someone in my group that I would absolutely HATE. I feel like it would suck to just be stuck in close quarters with a bunch of random people for your $6000 hotel stay.

David A Behlman

I want to be the side that doesn't win so I can say "I lost the Star Wars" whenever my trip comes up.

Lindsey Keefer

I'm so excited to see how it goes for you! A boiler room escape room scenario sounds like it'd be really fun.

Rushka Unverricht

I'm quite excited to see how this all turns out, hopefully it makes for a good video! However it goes, have a good time on the Starcruiser Jenny!

Tori

I feel like there's only been one tie I've seen and there was another poll

Grethen S.

Can't wait to hear about your experience there!!

AW

Ah when I was a kid, the one time I went to Disneyworld and I dragged my family around all day doing the Kim Possible Epcot game haha. I loved triggering all the little things, it's pretty much the only thing I remember from that trip

David Arroyo

How come your older rambles and patreon videos deleted?

Jenny Nicholson

Updated links to the backlog are in the pinned post on desktop!

Xelias

Is there a good video where you explain what starcruiser is ?

David A Behlman

Artemis Starship inspired me to write out several notes for a long Star Trek-like LARP that relies heavily on that game and I think the existence of this hotel is a good sign for this idea!

David A Behlman

Yeah, you should be able to set a level for your experience - 1 is just the main events and 10 is alarms at 2am to repair a coolant leak.

Becca H

I've never played Artemis but I've heard good things! Sounds like lot of fun.

James Quinn

Try going on a nice, real cruise in the $3,000 range to beautiful sunny places here on good ol Planet Earth! Then do the fake AF Starcruiser thing for whopping $6K! And tell us which one was more worth the money, K?

Amanda Moreira

I think this one gets into interesting details from the perspective of a theme park fan but manages to be straight to the point. But from what I've seen the Galatic Starcruiser is just a live-action role play where you're on a fancy cruise in the star wars universe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Vqn0S0Atu8

Zoë Kay

love this lipstick btw, it’s giving lorde

James Quinn

WHAT. What is the difference between fantasy and reality? WHAT. What is taking a real vacation as opposed to an imaginary one? W_H_A_T. What is a flight or cruise to another country versus an overpriced hotel where you pretend to be in outer space??? What what whaaaaaaat. I don’t know how they did it, but “overpriced” is an understatement! What It’s more like thievery, grand extortion, usury, exploitation of fandom/ franchise, etc. What Disney lost money with their sequel trilogy endeavors. What Some might argue the whole thing was a big elaborate commercial for amusement parks! It’s a perpetual money sinkhole that they think will go on forever. What The new generation of kids don’t want action figures anymore. What Who wants to play with their grandpa’s old Luke &Han toys for the rest of eternity? What Kids want video games and Fortnite & Minecraft stuff. What Lightsaber training doesn’t even make sense unless it’s a spaceship for Jedi students! “What” is something you say to a person you’re verbally/ physically talking to when you can’t hear them, and need to repeat what they said for clarity. What Without saying anything else in text form- “What” as a response makes you a bona fide stupid idiot. What Adding a ‘like’ to the comment of: what- is a bottom feeder move, of a bona fide stupid idiot, kewl guy! What Comment on me again and I’ll tell you what I REALLY think.

Laura Elizabeth

I don't have twitter so I'm posting this here in reaction to the 'I'm filming a pole' video: I wonder if they were going to have a separate dinner theater room / finale stage area planned, with a regular cafeteria for general meals, but had to scrap the ideas early due to budget cuts. So they had to combine the dinner show into the cafeteria and then move the finale awkwardly into the atrium.

Penguin Gabe

Who da fuck let this guy in? Dont we check ID’s anymore people? We cant keep being compromised by clowns

James Quinn

I don’t need to acknowledge someone with a Jar Jar Avatar. Gayyyyyyyyyybe

Jenny Nicholson

Hi guys sorry about that, my blocking button wasn't working on the mobile app. James has been banned

Dylan

Absolutely love the cast member in gift shop who has decided to be Gaya stan. Slay queen.

Steven Clark

Revisiting this, and it's interesting how the actual experience of the hotel was less impressive than imagined on every point. Every single point. Even the low expectations were not met.
