I took so long to wade through the stuff that I thought this was gonna be really short when I cut it down but it's actually extremely long, so I've added chapters for convenience

One thing I noticed while editing is that when covering the Television panel I was continually mystified over whether something was a series, even as nearly all of them turn out to be a series. I don't really have an explanation for that. But also in my defense Television sometimes seems to include Disney Channel Original Movies or even Disney+ movies?

You broke my little French heart saying you don't want to come to France 😢 but I get it, customer service wise French people are awful (especially compared to the USA where the "client is always right" mentality is very present). I wish you will come one day and see how beautiful my country is (even though we can be rude sometimes haha) Also you should look up the Puy du fou theme park, it's very unique!

Emmaline Kim

I took my once in a lifetime theme park trip as a kid to universal instead of disney bc wizarding world of harry potter opened. I was obsessed with that universe as a kid. My dad took me and my cousins (we were all 12-13 years old) and we had the best time ever. I think the new universal park is going to encourage a lot of kids to do the same as we did. Why would you go to disney when you could go to the new harry potter park instead??

Cool Sausage

chyna anne mcclain isn`t as big as other disney stars i presume because of her incessant evangelical ramblings on social media, going so far as to turn down acting roles to focus on "god`s work". shame because she is really talented, and obviously theres nothing wrong with being religious, but not when you`re putting people down because of it.

Jonathan Chan

that sketch we saw with that man from football lol

Alex Paul

The IP obsession at Disney really gets me because of the extremely slow moving pace of theme parks. A movie comes out and Disney waits to see if it’s a hit, then they formulate theme park plans that won’t get announced until 1-2 years after the movie’s release and won’t even be open for 2 or 3 more years after that when the bulk of their audience has probably moved on. They can’t even move quickly on small things: Turning Red came out over a year ago and Panda Mei JUST got a costumed character So they either need to be more proactive in planning to capitalize on a captive audience (though it would require some pretty heavy cross-company planning between animation and parks) or go back to developing more general genre-type lands. As Jenny said, adventure land has successfully been able to pick up IP as it went along because Disney could plug in their adventure movie franchises, so maybe they should approach lands as a sketch that they can paint over when the right thing comes along. (Or they can stock them with original properties that will then become so beloved they’ll spawn their own movie franchises)

Merrill O'Shaughnessy

I know this is such a late comment, but I was surprised you didn’t bring up the longer term ramifications of Disney’s recent changes. Not only are they going to get a fall-off in a couple of years from those cyclical guests, imo in 10-15 years they’re going to see an even bigger decline. For so many families, the reason they go to Disney is nostalgia or tradition, so if Disney isn’t magical for kids right now, what do you think is going to happen when those kids start families of their own? Kids may not pay the up-charges, but they stand in the long lines when their parents opt not to pay for fast passes and they know a lame ride when they see it. Most importantly, kids are super perceptive of their parents’ frustrations and anger especially in a close-quarters family vacation setting. Currently, Disney is being supported by a generation of Disney adults who love the parks based on their experiences there 20+ years ago, but now, even if they turn things around in a couple of years, they’ll have lost years and years of future families.

Laslus

it's been almost 2 years, but i want to say: my family did those "on in a lifetime" to disney back in 2009. We are brazilian, so everything is extra expensive, we saved a bunch and my parents debated if it was worth it for literal years. We went to the cheapest hotel, ate the cheapest meals, didn't rent a car, so to go outside the park's grounds we took a normal town bus.... it was perfect. no kidding one of our favorite trips as a family. so much my parents decided it was worth doing again! and we saved a bit more this time around, because we wanted the merch and the better food - we knew it was expensive but we had SUCH a great experience in the first time around we decided it was worth saving more money the 2nd time around. we havent gone back since 2012, and a few years ago my mom and I talk about doing that trip again, even as 2 adults we would enjoy it lot! ..... then i checked the disney side of the internet. to see the new things and to check for tips. we knew NOTHING about disney parks when we went when i was a kid, so I though "oh, this time i'm a huge nerd who can speak English, lets see tips from people who know the park a lot" I read absolutely NOTHING that motivated my trip plans. We decided to take a trip somewhere else and honestly nothing ever since mas made me change my mind. You're right! those changes affect deeply how people see the park. ofc i know i'm not Disneyland's primary demographic, being an adult living in brazil, but if i was them i would be very worried about how their image is changing.

ddddan

This is such a good point! Especially as non-Disney people hear more about the downgrades, that’s going to be the public perception at one point.

WDW History

It's been two years and I just watched this video for the first time and holy sh*T was Jenny 100% correct on everything she said in this video!! Is she a prophet?!! I was really amazed at how accurate she was even only two years later. Worth my money every month.

Moose

Jenny! You must be so thrilled to hear the Tangled ride in Disneyland Paris is indeed a generic teacup ride with lanterns 🤭

NaoBaby

Yay! Thank you Jenny!

Katie Kraynak

so excited!! perfect pick me up during midterms :)

Henri

All Hail the Formatting Error!

BZZY93

Katherine Allen

So glad to see this!! I’ve been seeing all this confusing D23 news and thinking hm, should I try to figure this out myself or just hope that Jenny is going to make a video explaining it all? Thankfully the decision was made for me 😅

poppys daddi

i’m gonna listen to 2 hours of you talking about things i don’t care that much about and i’m gonna enjoy every second of it

JupiterBee

The best thing about D23 is the Jenny Nicholson content made from it

Ryan Kerr

LOL I def thought that elf was hot too 🤣

Rika

“that sketch we saw with that man from football” HAHAHAHA JENNY🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Jenny Nicholson

Fwiw it turns out I don't care so much about them either

Jenny Nicholson

I almost called him Tom Brady but I think he namedropped Tom Brady & thus probably isn't him

Rika

Honestly brilliant deduction!

Matt Penn

I love your spider's hat, Jenny!

MrKirbs

I still refer to the show as MOON KNIGHT?! whenever possible

Tiffany Moton

jeeeez jennys out here just hating on every single thing

Steve Ray

If American-Born Chinese features The Monkey King, it will be totally worth watching.

Pacm3ns

I am truely and utterly devastated, that we did not get a one and a half hour video essay on the workings of patreon polls and the annoyance formating issues may present, when working with them.

Bethany

it feels worth mentioning that under wraps 2 is actually a sequel to a reboot

Bryan Sutton

I hope you do this for every D23, and each time I hope there's a moment of devastation when you realize something you're interested in is a series. Not that I want to see you be disappointed in something, it's just funny and a staple at this point.

Charlie

Omg I wrote a spec script for a Lifetime movie almost beat for beat like your hypothetical Santa Clause sequel. Just w/o Tim Allen. This is extremely validating.

Calvin Maragnano

Wow, maybe the best ramble yet? It didn't occur to me when it was on the poll that a D23 ramble would naturally include the state of the parks.

Luc Gendrot

I truly don't give a rip about the disney parks, but wow is it satisfying to listen to someone who knows a lot about the industry opine on its seemingly dismal future

Totesnotasheep

I really think you're right about the parks goodwill being ground up. My friend was talking about us going and I just kept thinking about genie+ and how fast passes are gone. Having to pay extra to make sure you go on the big rides in a park that's costs an equivalent to a Hawaii trip just feels really scummy.

Jenny Nicholson

Are you sure they didn't produce your script, 4 or 5 times across multiple years

Erin Walker

best jenny vibes are "aaah i don't know, that's not really interesting to me" and i cannot explain it any better than that im sorry lmfao

Mimosa

This was quite interesting! Disney Sea here in Tokyo always has a lot going on, and I was quite happy to hear a shoutout to Duffy. Him and his friend group are HUGE and INESCAPABLE. They reign supreme over all merch. Gelatoni is also really popular (the green Italian cat) -I’d say second most popular?

Sophie Weston

Yess so hyped for this, the og is one of my go to's!

Evan Samanas

Willow does look fun. I might have to watch the 80’s movie for context anyways, boring or not

Smallpotato

Currently putting all my Disney hopes in the Figment basket right now. 🤞🤞 But really hope they can reverse some of these cheapening tactics and bring back the magic. I hear that it’s been rough for imagineers too…

Magical Girl Mel

I just keep looking at the things that Tokyo Disney has done like the Beauty and the Beast ride they made and wishing those would be able to come over here...

Magical Girl Mel

Additionally, I get what you mean about everything needing to be a land. At this point, I feel like they're trying to shove and tack more and more lands onto each of the Florida Parks, when it feels like they have enough going on conceptually that they might as well just build another whole ass park. But they're never going to fo that because tha's a big up front cost and they only want to make single rides at a time.

FauxRetro

I’m totally cool with a villains land if we get the beastly kingdom dragon ride and just make it Maleficent instead. I really just want beastly kingdom but I’ll take what I can get. Which is technically still nothing.

Eric MacMillan

I feel like the State of the Park rant at the end should be made publicly available to everyone, its so good and on point.

David A Behlman

The Mickey ride in Toontown sounds great! My opinion of the ride has improved slightly now that I've seen more of it, but that fact it was shoehorned into a replica of a famous movie theater whilst removing animatronics really grinds me. Anyway, yes, still hoping for the best with Tiana's.

Megan Smart

Please do Barbie or Beanie Babies for your next big video! I'd love to see both of those topics. The Barbie preview is great. I'm excited for the Evermore video to drop. I have family members who went a while ago and said it was disappointing. I think they'll enjoy your video.

Dan Gibbins

If Electric Mayhem are anyone's favourite Muppets, that's fine, enjoy them, but there's something weird about how, more than any other Muppet in Muppet history, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem are very specifically locked in time to the early-to-mid 70s. They were designed in the days of disco and funk, the final days of hippies, and never moved past them, and so I can't exactly blame Jenny for not loving Muppets locked in time to nearly two decades before she was born. I mean I'm gonna watch it but I'm an eternal sucker for Muppets. Also I, too, have ridden the Spider-Man ride exactly once and don't anticipate doing so again, and recall thinking "Oh wow, Jenny Nicholson must not have liked this one," for basically every reason she mentioned. Not a great ride. My wrists got tired.

Dan Gibbins

I also thought he was Tom Brady, but he said "Brady" was someone else, and man now I don't even know. "Man from football" was also all I had.

Trystan

I'm still not sure if Jenny actually loves Avatar or if it's ironic memery that got way out of control.

SweetAlissum

I guess I'm weird because my husband and I love The Electric Mayhem pretty much because they're so weird and 70s.

Dan Gibbins

Hey it's a little niche but if it works for you, good for you, they're a fun band.

Diana.H.

French person here: please do your research before going to the Futuroscope. It's pretty bad. I've been twice and it's vast and empty and loud (the rides are loud) and everything is screen-based. I think for a time the "best ride in the world" was supposed to be there but I have no idea who picked that ride. It wasn't all that great. Just an intense 4D theater experience. If you come to France do the "Parc Asterix", as it's at least highly themed and completely French. :)

SweetAlissum

I'm so glad to hear you rant against the current state of Disney Parks just so I feel less alone about it. I also tire of everyone's response being, well Disney will make their money anyway! I truly think they're finding the wall, even with big fans. I'm a massive Disney parks fan and they're squeezing out people like me who used to be able to justify the value out of staying at the lower tier WDW hotels and still have a great experience. Now my husband and I have no reason to stay on property. You can get a way better off property hotel experience for less money, so who are those lower and mid-tier resorts going to be for? If you have money to burn and the current nickel & diming doesn't impact your family, you're not at the All Stars. For the same price, you can get short term rentals with more space, or even 'good neighbor' hotels. We went for 3 years in a row for Halloween when we could afford it, and haven't been back since 2019. I'm a cosplayer and also pretty Halloween obsessed, so the Not-So-Scary event is huge for me. While we do both miss our annual October trip, we can't justify it right now. Honestly unless we jump up a bracket in income, we might not be back for a while. I also live in California, but not local to the parks, and my last trip to Disneyland involved using Disney giftcards from my Bridal shower. Now we don't know when we'll be back because the cost was so intense. Those single day prices are insane. I wish there was any sort of discount for multiple days or California residents besides the 3 day pass that has so many rules around it to make it never worth my time. Personally, I've been hyping up your Evermore video to friends for ages! I've been greatly looking forward to it since last year. I apologize I've repeated this but back in 2019 when I was planning a 2020 bachelorette party (we did get married this year at last), Evermore was a contender. One of my bridesmaids suggested it since we're all the right demo for it (cosplayers, D&D players). It sounded ideal on paper but the more I looked into it, the more I feel we dodged a bullet not being able to justify the expense of going to Utah for that trip. (We did the SoCal RenFaire instead and it was great.)

BROGGGGGY

why does Tom Brady look like a bad alias for Ted Bundy 👀 also i think its one of those Manning boys, probably the papa johns one

AW

There's an Asterix and Obelix-themed park?? :0 The only Asterix comic I've read was the Berlinerisch translation of one of them so I always mistakenly think of them as German haha, but it's of course a great if slightly unexpected theme for a French park! (-:

Diana.H.

Asterix is a French character (written and created by a Belgium man) and the village Asterix lives in is in France. It's the last village to resist roman invation. So yea, makes sense that the park's here! It's near Paris so it can be done at the same time as Disneyland Paris and it's more "for adults" as in the rides are less child friendly than those of Disney. There's a Halloween season and a Christmas season. It's a pretty fun parc that's a lot more in line with what Jenny usually seems to enjoy.

Shaun Cheah

Rewatch the Avatarland video from 2018 and discover that both options can be true.

Jordan

Really enjoyed this video. I haven't been to Disney since I was a child, but seeing all the things about it recently really makes me appreciate that I went during the 'heyday' of the parks. (Also, I've been really enjoying Andor - it feels so fresh and original compared to the other recent StarWars things)

TalysAlankil

In case you weren't told yet, they also had Ariana DeBose (who plays the lead in Wish) on stage to sing one of the songs from the movie! I don't think there was an official video of it but there are plenty of bootlegs floating around. This one's pretty okay quality https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ilpr83StHNI

Xena Achilleos

I did my dcp at hollywood studios when they shut down great movie ride, when I tell you the ride was falling apart. it regularly caught fire, and it was super expensive to run with the jungle cruise narrators. the ride needed alot of TLC but they just never gave it- they would put international DCP students with thick accents into this script heavy ride and have them perform!

Hannes

I wasn't a fan of the recent star wars shows at all so Andor has been a breath of fresh air. I am not sold on Cassian as the protagonist, but at least it means the show can't drag on forever.

Sarah Kirby

Having only visited Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong, I feel like you might enjoy Paris more than you expect because there are a lot of walk-through exhibits/areas that are highly themed and feel like you are exploring a land, perhaps in a similar way to the old EPCOT? It has been quite a few years since I have been though so maybe it has degraded. Also, Mystic Manor is genuinely incredible - my favourite ride ever!

Lily Sage

I’m a new Cast Member and I work at a water park, one of the only places that’s still kind of untouched by Disney continuing to monetize EVERY interaction- when I pick up in theme parks guests seem much more upset, frustrated, tired, etc. I 100% agree with what you said about a big storm coming for Disney. Chapek is looking at the short term dollar signs and not the long term impact on the brands reputation, quality of service, and guest return.

Freddy Ray

Doogie Howser was dumb as hell and as cringey as you might imagine when the concept is "a fish out of water workplace comedy, except the fish out of water is a literal child". He's a surgeon who has to ask his dad to borrow the car to take his girlfriend on dates!

Caroline

I felt so seen when you called out Toronto dressed as NYC or Canadian small towns where Hallmark Christmas movies are filmed as an American town. I've seen the sets of both and have become an expert at pointing out when a movie is filmed in Toronto or outside Ottawa. Always looks slightly off

Jess

I 100% feel you about marvel movies! My friends are still really into them but I just kinda... Can't. I'm exhausted by the Disney style in general? It's like, weirdly generic and not flawed enough to be interesting.

Jenny Nicholson

Never fear it's a rant I've done many times irl lol and is mostly regurgitated at the end of the my Star Wars Hotel script

Jenny Nicholson

Yeah imo the most offensive thing about it at Hollywood Studios is that they removed an E ticket in the park with the fewest notable rides, and tons of empty space from older abandoned attractions

Jenny Nicholson

My interest in Futuroscope is mainly in the knockoff star wars hotel!

Steve Ray

I think Dr. Teeth &; the Electric Mayhem are based on Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, which have some remarkable videos on YouTube.

Trahbox

Having done both Efteling and Disney this year I've come to the conclusion that, if you live in Europe and pay for Disney over Efteling you just flat out hate money and fun.

run_away

Bruh I have seasonal depression so bad right now and seeing a jenny video lit up my morning, thank you for this

Markus D

Agreed. I have enjoyed some Marvel movies, but mostly pre-Disney ones and I just... haven't had much interest in them. I really liked Encanto and Turning Red (if you count Pixar movies in this) but other than that I totally get what you're saying about Disney feeling generic. Like, I can't remember any other Disney movies from the last few years off the top of my head besides those two.

Julia Rooney

the Bernard the elf reaction was really raw and emotional

Caitlin O'Malley

Just curious.. what happened to some of the other videos that were gonna be coming up? Barbie, Beanie Babies, Galactic Starcruiser,

Jelmer

(Andor is actually good!) But yes, Star Wars on Disney+ is getting a little tiresome and stale.

Kelly Heft

"that man from football" made me smile

Markus D

I'm with you on the Percy Jackson thing. I'm happy for fans of the series but even though I've always been into Greek mythology, it felt kind of "jock" and was the YA fantasy book series that my younger brother read. I'm in the age group that would've read Harry Potter, but because I was into creepy goth stuff and thought that the HP characters and narrator were weirdly mean (after having read the first and part of the second book) I was into Skulduggery Pleasant when I was a bit older and that series came out.

Lindsey Keefer

Wait the Chip and Dale treehouse is gone?? :(

Drew Hitchcock

When I went a few weeks ago, not only was Der Teddybar still closed, but there was not even a plush Figment in the Figment gift shop. I feel like there is something interesting going on with the homogenization of their merch, but I haven't quite put it all together.

Bullseye

That's like half of Jenny's videos for me.

Bullseye

I only recognized him because I've seen him in commercials.

Markus D

I don't think that The Santa Clause aged super well, or maybe it's like an okay kids movie but not all that entertaining as an adult. All I can say for sure is that the best thing to come out of it is the song that Danny Gonzalez made based on the premise. I also remember the Jack Frost one being extremely pointless and disjointed, but I always assumed that that was just because I only saw it once, in school around Christmas, the year it came out on DVD.

Bullseye

I watched the movie a few months ago for this exact reason. Nostalgic for me even though I had never seen it before, because the intro has the standard 80s fantasy font and 80s fantasy noises.

B Hair

I love the longer videos :) Makes the time at work pass so much faster. Thanks Jenny!

ts_babyjane

lol just want to say, i went to disney when i was 4 but then got to go in november 2019 and thank god ! i had a friend who worked there so for free we did all the dumb stuff without lines that i love, rode a few bigger rides but mostly soaked up the attention to detail i didn’t know that Disney had. so im glad i at least got to see it once before it completely fell off. :)

Beef Stu

I got into the Disney park scene about a year ago, and I’m going to Disneyland (California) for the first in a month. Hearing Jenny talk about how the parks are going down hill and it’s not worth getting an annual pass is sad. Im still going to go and have an amazing time. But the idea of missing “the good ol’ days” and never being able to experience what that was is something i know I’ll over think

Cat McDevitt

Since you haven’t read them fun fact in the books Percy Jackson is a basically a horse girl I don’t know if it’ll make it into the show but in a lot of the books he talks to his horse best friend through some psychic godly connection when on adventures (the connection is only for horses and sea animals)

LL

I'm forever hopeful that Sofia the First will one day be the topic of a ramble video, but I don't think it's old enough to achieve the nostalgia power needed to win votes. The world is not yet ready for lore deep dives of Sofia the First. I'm also super curious to know if you ever checked out the Elena of Avalor Spin off?

Alex Andra

Jenny will there be captions available for this video? :)

Luis

ngl I wasn't expecting much from this topic but wow Jenny knocked it out of the park as usual :D These announcements though do make me want to cancel my Disney+. Perhaps after Willow airs lol.

Kyle Williams

I agree with you on the state of the Disney parks. I live near LA and last went to Disneyland in June of 2021 right after they reopened. The parks were at 1/4 capacity and yet more crowded than I'd ever seen before. I swore I wouldn't go back until Fastpass was working again. But then they made the new version such a nickle and dime nightmare that I have no enthusiasm for it. As for Orlando, the next time I go I will almost certainly center it around Universal and at most spend one day at Epcot, just like you were suggesting people do. And if I do Epcot it will only be if they have enough up and running to make it comparable to how it used to be.

Seemly Tablespoon

I recently started getting really interested in theme park history, design, animatronics, etc. I'm also currently pregnant with my first kid, which naturally makes me think about taking them to a theme park for that "one big lifetime trip." I have 0 interest in visiting the domestic US parks given all the challenges. Instead I'm eying the Tokyo parks or Efteling. Yeah, international travel is expensive, but it just seems so much more worth it to me.

XX Y

love the video

Jan Theodore

wait sorry, just wanna clarify this: ANDOR is actually good. Like, good good. Not just good for Star Wars. It's a highlight of every week, for me

Marisa Leon

I would definitely recommend the percy jackson books. They were a little after my time growing up, but I recently read them all including the spin-offs and I had a great time. I do agree with you about the state of the parks right now, things do not seem great. WDW's future seems especially bleak considering that they have taken 5+ years to build one ride that isn't even open yet. Even when I was a CM at WDW in the last years of Iger's reign it felt like the parks were losing focus. (Looking at you, rivers of light, RIP)

Tori

Ohhhh about the rant about the Disney. I wanted to go to WDW on my own, but I'm so disappointed with everything it doesn't feel ethical.

Jaz Mei Luo

For a second I really thought you said FOUR people will click on the Evermore video, not "for people" 😂

Will Donahue

anyone else catch harper's iconic marker dress from wizards of waverly place at 52:40?

Mary Dedrick

“The town where Lifetime shoots all their movies.” It’s called Fort Langley and it’s in British Columbia!

Jenny Nicholson

Both of those things were true when I went a full year ago too. :( At the time people were saying maybe a supply chain thing but it's def a staffing thing This also ties into why they still have reservations, even though they raised the capacity back up to pre-pandemic levels - if they know how many guests are coming ahead of time, they can understaff all the way down to the wire. Many locations are operating with half the staff they did pre-pandemic which is also why employees are a bit crankier

Jenny Nicholson

Optimistically, by the time your child is a 5 or 6 (a great age for a first disney trip) they might have a new ceo and be in a new era of discounts, free dining plans, free fastpass to try to get people to come back But yes I would definitely recommend Efteling. The fairytale forest alone is like a 6 hour endeavor to see everything (we split it between two days) and a lot of good rides that allow young kids

TV_Walkman

I'm still baffled by the continuing popularity of the series. Props to Riordan I guess. I'd have thought the target audience of the books at the time grew up like me and don't care anymore

Erin Nye

As someone who has never been a big fan of Epocot (although I've never been when I could drink) Maelstrom was my favorite ride in the park, and one of my favorite of all the parks. It was what got me into Norse mythology because I loved the trolls so much!

Billy Campelo

I fully agree with everything in the state of the parks rant. I’m a passholder and I’ve honestly already noticed that the parks have been less crowded. To me it seemed like after the initial wave of people who came for the 50th passed. I’ve gone to Hollywood studios on three different Saturdays over the last few months and only waited between 40-50 minutes for rise of the resistance each time. The lack of amenities is really bad too. They still don’t even have the parking lot trams back up and running at all of the parks. It makes it really unpleasant having to walk through a giant unshaded parking lot in the Florida sun. The park reservation system is the other thing everyone is also frustrated with. It used to be nice being able to just go whenever and not having to try and book that day ahead of time.

Quinn

I was planning my first-ever disney trip this year, but I got so overwhelmed by all of the overcrowding and added fees that I just decided not to go. It sucks because I really was looking forward to it, but I know I'd be too stressed out about staying under budget with all these hidden expenses at every turn. Also, if you're taking suggestions for projects after the Evermore video, I'm dying to see the rest of that Barbie vid you posted a preview of last year

Sarah Jesness

Rapunzel really does have the worst dress. (in the movie. She had better outfits in the series) It looks like a generic princess costume from Wal-Mart.

Gussie Ruck

i will say, as someone who has been to disney twice (only once where i was old enough to remember) i have no interest in going again unless the main focus of the trip is universal with all of the bad things i’ve been hearing. even when we were at disney 6ish years ago i remember liking the days we spent at universal more, but that might have been bc i was really into harry potter at the time lol

Matt Grippi

Jenny confidently saying that The Marvels is a documentary made me laugh out loud

Frita Gee

i only went to disney once when i was 4 and the one thing i remember is being taken to that stitch show where he slobbers on you and FREAKING out

David A Behlman

100% and said E ticket really added to the park's identity - which still works fine for IP mash-ups - just so many layers to why this choice feels way off! I think the exasperated comment starting at 1:28:22 really sums up the frustration we're all feeling.

David A Behlman

That land is clearly better than the movie. More movies might mean more park stuff though!

David A Behlman

She referenced having a lot on the back burner, I figure those are there. Simmering to perfection!

Rachel

As someone who has a family member that makes movie trailers, I don't find your appreciation for them weird. The amount of work that goes into a finished trailer is pretty insane, and all those music choices and cuts have been looked over and tweaked like 20 times. I think they are an under appreciated art.

Shaun Cheah

Speaking as a guy, I like it *because* it's the worst dress. Compared to all the rest it's plain and kinda tacky and exactly what you'd expect someone who has never left home in her life to imagine what a pretty dress would look like. It reflects her character; there's something naive and immature but also joyful and fun about it. I'd wager it's a probably still a big hit among dads of little girls, too, because it's just so purple-pink that it screams "girly princess dress for girls" at them from every toy aisle in every store across the globe.

Shaun Cheah

I really enjoy trailers; I'd pay movie ticket prices for a screening that's essentially a 90-minute experience of just an anthology of fantastic trailers for movies I'll probably never see.

mollie

jenny i’m sorry you’re wrong. percy jackson is for the gays, not the jocks

Thread Bomb

Jenny mentioning the Santa Clause sequels reminds me that Mr Sunday Movies did videos on all the movies (to date), and was very funny about the broken logic and appalling implications of the series.

lyrium

i like this take! it looks like something a little girl would draw if asked to draw a princess

Rob K

Andor is really good. Really. I hope one day you're ready to go back to the Galaxy, coz there's cool shit going on there now...

Jaz Mei Luo

I corroborate this statement 🌈

Xavier Fauver

I love a good trailer, especially for a movie I'm looking forward to. When I go to theaters I get excited to see trailers on a big screen, makes me feel like a kind of lame person but I still think they're cool.

Xavier Fauver

By the way you can move by one frame on a YouTube video by using the ,. buttons, you don't have to keep going back and trying to pause on one part

Sarah Jesness

Yeah, Disney's decisions with the theme parks will probably hurt them in the long run. This is a mistake that so many companies make: they have a product with a great reputation for being high quality. It's so good that it sells on name alone. The company decides that since the name is so valuable, they don't need quality any more. This works out in the short term, but eventually the product loses its reputation for quality and stops selling. As you point out, this is especially a problem for something like Disney, where for many families, they only make one or a few trips. People who do that are expecting a REALLY great experience, and if Disney can no longer promise that, they're not gonna do it.

Madeleine

The evermore video is something special. I’ve rewatched both previews you posted, and a week ago I found myself just idly searching YouTube, thinking about my new special interest, evermore. I don’t care about theme parks, but your storytelling really does something in my brain. Like, it’s now just something I care about. Can’t wait for whenever it comes out! 💓

Sabrie Colbert

The mythology gays. I guffawed at jocks 😭

Marissa Collins

I think Jenny is dead on about the shifting center of gravity in Florida. When I paid for my own Disney trip for the first time in 2009 or 2010, I didn't even consider going to Universal; I spent all my time in the various Disney parks. When the first Potter land opened, and I went to Florida for the first time with my husband in late 2011, we did one day at Universal and the rest of our days at Disney. Now we're finally ready to take our kids (who'll be 10 and 6, and who both love Harry Potter) to Florida, and we're doing two days at Universal and one at Disney (Hollywood Studios). I can't stomach doing Disney without the old FastPass system. It no longer feels like you can have a good day at the Disney parks with a little bit of ingenuity and a dash of waking up early; you have to personally like Chapek's pockets in order to have anything like an acceptable experience. And I just won't play that game.

Joe Bloe

"Too boring" is not a comment I think I've ever heard about Willow. Too trite, too camp, too cheesy, too inconsistent, too illogical... never too boring. Huh.

Matt Penn

I'm really excited for the Evermore video! I'm not super into theme parks, but the whole concept of Evermore is really interesting to me. I'll be really interested to hear Jenny's take on the park since she is a theme park expert.

Matt Penn

Idea for a future video: a mockumentary/mock vlog where Jenny pretends to travel to Jurassic Park and critique it. Seriously, she could make an absolutely hilarious video with that topic.

Matthew Clark

Bob Chapek makes Michael Eisner look like Walt Disney.

Celienm

Useless comment incoming.Regarding the spiderman ride. I'm planning to go to DLP with a few friends, most of whom are Marvel fans. They are definitely going to want to do the spiderman ride, which I also want to do. Probably once. I'm disabled with a condition that messes up my entire body. Yay for wheelchair accessible rides, but my arms are messed up lmao So I'm just stressing out that I can only motion one spider down before being in pain and just having to sit on the ride watching my friends have fun. I really wish they had an accessible way of shooting the webs, with a regular blaster or a joystick/tablet or something. So not only is the ride apparently boring for people who can actually use their arms, but it's not actually rideable for those who can't do the arm motions, which I feel is something they should've taken into account lol From what I hear it's just all around bad designing.

Jillian

Is the idea of a Barbie movie video dead?

Thread Bomb

'Tom Brady' sounds like a news reader.

Thread Bomb

I thought Willow was enjoyable whimsy, apart from the two comic relief characters, who made me want to puncture my eardrums.

Thread Bomb

I would call them the < and > buttons.

Thread Bomb

It's sad to hear Jenny talk about rides she's hopeful for, when they will probably all turn out to be screen rides.

Austin P. Smith

American Born Chinese is based on a graphic novel that my coworker has been teaching in her English class. I randomly know certain plotpoints and scenes because students will be doing their ELA homework in my class. It looks like a very good story!

Dash

Your impassioned and righteous tirade at the end says different

MW

Totally agree re: being tired of Marvel movies

MW

So am going to Orlando in January for a (i think specifically Epcot) work conference with 2 coworkers and one really wants to go to Disney for a day and the other Universal - for HP, which I am now "ugh" on, so I was leaning towards Disney but honestly now I'm like...maybe I do go to Universal?

Nos4ay2

It was a weight off my shoulders when I decided that I was off the Marvel Train. I'd been thinking about stopping after endgame but that sunk cost factor got me to watch Wandavision that I sorta liked until the last episode where it brutally murdered any goodwill left in me.

Gnome Choomsky

So you liked Avatar... Did you listen to the episode of Chapo Trap House where they reviewed it? It contains the mind-blowing Matt Christman line, "[P]eople [were] talking about how they were depressed because they couldn't go to Pandora, but what they were really depressed about is the fact that they f***ing live on Pandora and they destroyed it!" 🤯🤯🤯

Olly Browning

There's something about the way Jenny says "I'm not going to watch that." which is so earnest yet devastatingly funny at the same time

Em Lauren

I wasn't that interested in visiting paris disneyland but went because i was in the area, the main park is definitely worth it, haunted mansion and space mountain in particular blew my expectations out of the water, the tiny castle is the one disappointing part but i think the dragon animatronic almost makes up for it. a lot was still closed due to covid/construction, but i had a good day.

Sparrowlucero

were there different preview clips for avatar 2? I saw avatar in imax and the clip they played at the end was just one of the kids hanging out with a friendly whale, no other characters

Jenny Nicholson

Oh we got a different one. It was 3 I assume Sully/Neytiri kids, they were swimming with two aquatic navi with tails. The water na'vi spoke sign language and were making fun of them being bad at swimming. Only 2 of the Sully kids surfaced and the other one which I assume is Sigourney swam after something looking inquisitive

Sparrowlucero

huh! I wonder how many clips there are. My friend and I were really enamored with the one we saw, it gave the impression that at least part of the story would be something like how to train your dragon with a sentient alien whale

Luis

I got the whale clip as well and it looked amazing!!

Andrew Hill

It should have been you, Jenny University, idk, the crowd hard against it but ask the Sandra Lee person its, it's a dream it is not impossible

Jackson

Share disney plus with 5 people and password has stayed the same the entire time, might just be lucky idk the other variables that could affect it

Daniel (cat whisperer)

I actually just went to Animal Kingdom and Epcot and I really felt like “what am I doing here?” None of the employees seemed to wanna be there and most of the rides were so screen-heavy and unimpressive.

berry beinfeld

recently went to universal florida for HHN with a group of theme park heads and all of them - including a couple who literally got married there - said that disney is just not worth the price anymore. which is sad because I have never been and I guess I just won’t now unless something drastically changes

JFCo

I’ve been a Disney nerd for about 40 years. We had APs at both Disneyland and WDW when I was a kid. My first job was as a cast member at WDW. I’m glad I rarely went to the parks after about 2000. I do not have any desire to go to any domestic park and at this rate, the only international park I want to make a point of visiting is Tokyo. We did go to Disneyland Paris in 2002 when it was basically as it was upon opening. I actively tell people not to go after hearing so much from family and friends and my limited experiences from 2010-2017. In fact, just yesterday I was talking to my dad about my opinions and he was floored because it’s so out of character for me. In my adult life, I’ve had much better times at Universal than Disney. I do agree with my 76 year old Dad’s gripe - Universal needs more family rides, or slower rides for older people. He wants to take his grandkids but ends up sitting around most of the time because he just can’t do the thrills he used to.

Lauren Damon

Your explanation of the hostile way Disney treats guests now deserves to be broadcast on every screen bob chapek's eyes even glance at

Sarahodo

I agree, I'm also planning to close the book on watching Marvel properties. I already cancelled Disney+. I'm just so done at this point.

NildroHain

Me too! Always wanted to go to Disney and have been saving up; I suppose I’m in that ‘once in a lifetime huge blow out’ demographic. And I just don’t wanna go anymore.

Eric Houge

There's a lot of salty energy in this video, which I like. I started to fall off the MCU around Civil War because I started to see how utterly inconsequential the storytelling was. Nothing could really have meaning anymore because they were just stalling for time until they got to Infinity War/Endgame. When all your movies are tied together like episodes of a TV show, and every one NEEDS to make a billion dollars at the box office just to break even, you really can't take any risks that would alienate a significant portion of the fanbase, which leads to boring fan service and antiseptic, unchallenging narratives. It's just soap opera storytelling, where nothing has any lasting impact.

Clairm

Honestly I'm really pleased to hear this salty take because I'm NOT a theme park person (I hate noise) but I recently got rabbithole-style obsessed with some famous Disney World channels, and it was hard to square the circle: I know there are plenty of obsessive theme park nerds out there, but most of the people I know who love Disney love it BECAUSE they don't seek out the most difficult option for having fun. They like Starbucks and Target and cruise ship vacations where your meals are planned for you. This is valid to be clear: people are allowed to have fun without studying and creating a strategy and timetables like it's the Napoleonic wars. Meanwhile it seems like it would genuinely be less complicated and less expensive to haul your whole family on a bus tour of several obscure foreign countries than to persuade the current Disney reservation system to let you have the privilege of paying $200 for dinner. DFB keeps sharing stories of families stranded in their expensive resorts who can't even get into the parks because they missed a step in the registration system and it got booked out before they could fix it. Going to a theme park should not be a test you can fail because you didn't study hard enough.

KL

Hard disagree on the castle, I love the little up-on-the-mountain effect at PDL - but you and I have the same viewpoint otherwise! PDL is a good inexpensive one-day side trip as part of a larger stay in Paris, not as a destination in itself. It's a nice little non-crowded park, I went in December 2018 and it was fun experiencing all the holiday Disney theming without the usual holiday Disney crowds. Edit: Same with Hong Kong, actually - great side trip as part of a Hong Kong visit, not worth it as a destination for itself. But like PDL it's a really easily-accessible-by-subway park without a lot of crowds (though IIRC unlike PDL it's actually not cheap). I was there during Halloween theming one October in the late 2010s and there were almost no lines, I was able to do Mystic Manor back to back 3 times without a wait.

Leo Heitmann

Ok but StarWars Andor is the best StarWars Series so far and looks like Rogue One, the Movie, but with better writing

JoeBee

You hit the nail on the head with the general assessment of the parks experience nowadays. I used to go every year pre-pandemic and I haven't been since. The nickel and diming coupled with the lazy screen-dependent new rides just doesn't make it worth any sort of effort to go to. Disney in general is at such a bad state right now and you can tell by just how terrible D23 and its announcements were. It's gonna be very interesting watching all the bad decisions take their toll in the next few years.

pinksunsets

very random info but the pink fox (from the duffy and friends lineup) is linabell! and i think she's a new shanghai mascot, she's huge in china - they jokingly call her a top female celebrity on chinese social media because of how popular she is. it's all very cute the park gives her seasonal outfits to wear too.

Susan Held

After 14 years together, my partner has developed a really good sense of whether I will like any given Marvel movie, so now I can just watch the ones that he says I'll enjoy (e.g. Love & Thunder) and ignore the ones he says I'll hate (e.g. Doctor Strange). A+ recommend this arrangement.

Susan Held

Also I'm done with Star Wars: Sad Boy Backstories.

Devin M

Wouldn’t the Efteling video be what you focus on next? I’m so excited for it! I also just went recently.

Indy Dang

I'm a person who's very critical of the star wars tv universe and I didn't like any of the shows that were out, but Andor is really intriguing so far. You mentioned that you liked when star wars is about the "normies" in the universe and Andor is about exactly that, it's very grounded and feels so different than the series that follow the heroes or chosen ones!

James Flemming

Last Night in Soho - I thought the trailer was awesome but I can't watch horror so I don't think I'll ever watch the movie.

Andrew Wantula

As someone who has also completely given up on Marvel, I will say that Werewolf by Night is actually really fun and feels completely separate from the MCU with zero returning characters (that's not Jessica Jones, it's just a similar looking actress). Perfect spooky Halloween vibes.

Laura

The current state of Walt Disney World is such a bummer to me. I use to get so excited about new stuff, but most of the new significant changes have been let-downs. I've liked a few new rides, but overall quality has been on the decline.

Narcissa Deville

Villainsland I'd be down with. I just don't know if they'd actually do it

Narcissa Deville

the thing is Disney has more money than god I don't blame anyone who is over it because of how much they wanna charge everyone when they don't have to do things the way they do.

Narcissa Deville

I think we all know why Disney is making an Electric Mayhem Muppet show and not any others. After they canned the Kermit voice actor chosen by Jim's son they've basically made him a background character because the new one sounds so off. Kermit was barely a blip on the Muppets Haunted Mansion film on Disney+ like that's telling. I say they should give Miss PIggy her own actual talkshow though.

Moira Laidlaw

I will say, when I was living in Japan, I went to Universal Studios Japan instead of Tokyo Disney, because I didn’t see that much cool stuff to do in comparison. If I could have done both I would have, but I went to USJ over Disney. And it was so good. I spent 3 days there. And Nintendo Land is so cool. It was so much fun. If/when it comes to Florida, it’s gonna be a huge draw I think. And Disney just isn’t doing anything that cool and exciting these days. They’re not putting in the money and effort to make me want to go to the parks as much. I still wanna go to DisneyLand. But like, I wouldn’t fly all the way to Florida (from BC) to go to DisneyWorld, you know? And I love Disney and theme parks.

Jill Morris

The attractions that Shanghai Disney has are so jaw droppingly awesome that it makes up for their numbers. The Zootopia thing isn't a new announcement though, there were walls up for it in 2019. I guess it hasn't had a chance to open with all their covid lockdowns. :(

Brian Tatosky

You're spot on for Disney and D23. (I'm still never going to get over the Avatar love :) )

MK

Too bad you missed DisneySea! But Tokyo Disneyland is pretty small, not much there for people who have been to the US parks.

M

I love your vids(obviously since I’m here)but as a huge pjo fan hearing you say “Percy Jackson is like Harry Potter for jocks” is so funny, 100% of the other pjo fans I knew as a kid also loved Harry Potter and hated sports lol. I get that the summer camp setting is less cool than a magic castle school, I agree about that. Still though, Harry Potter is absolutely a jock, just sayin

Thread Bomb

Why would you hate Dr Strange? I liked it more than most MCU movies because it had a different feel, being less a superhero movie and more of a dark fantasy with vaguely Harry Potter vibes.

Thread Bomb

It wasn't really horror, more a dark thriller. Not among Wright's best.

Thread Bomb

Disney parks lost a lot of money due to covid.

Skylin.

It triggers me that you think PJO is for jocks when no jocks are reading books that are really just for nerds who like Greek myths

Goblin Toboggan

Yeah for real, percy jackson being for jocks is as "sporty" as someone wanting to learn how to use a bow bc they love Legolas

Lily Hibiscus

I thought I was alone in my strange Bernard Elf attraction

Evan Samanas

I've watched it now and agree with both of you (and Jenny...it was way too long for what it was). Now I'm nervous about how heavily the comic relief characters will be featured in the series..the actors are reprising their roles and were featured in the trailer. They got so much screen time in the movie and were never funny I'm genuinely curious if they were well-received by movie-goers in the '80s

Samantha Gray

The last bit reminded me of a video I’ve seen breaking down the history of fastpass and it’s evolution into genie+. I’d love a whole video on your take of the parks right now. We went in October 2020 and November 2021, and I have to say the 2020 experience was pretty good. There were obviously a lot of things closed from Covid, but it was such a relaxed time with no fastpass system in place. Every day was a great day. But going last year was so stressful. It really does make me not want to go as much. I was the genie+ coordinator for my group, and it was so confusing and annoying to wake up, try to get what we wanted, and pay the extra amounts. It really felt like we were getting nickel and dimed. But our one day at universal was great. It was a bigger up front cost for a park hopper, but we did 99% of what we wanted in one day and were done by dinner. I think Disney will be very surprised at the number of people who will choose Universal in the future.

Al Hunt

A little YouTube tip for you: Once paused, you can press '.' or ',' to move forward and backwards a frame at a time. You're welcome ;-) It's great for analysing videos like this.

Daniel Olszewski

I wish I could anthropomorphize the Frozen ride and tell it to go Back, back over the falls

Amanda Valleroy

I want a Halloweentown prequel with Billie Lourde as young Aggie

An E ticket with SO MANY incredible animatronics! I will seriously never forgive them for this! Years later I’m still heartbroken over it.

orion

late to this video but im a florida native and have always been more of a universal fan (my whole family likes rollercoasters and theyre just better there) but my sisters and i really loved maelstrom when we DID go to epcot …. i have pretty vivid memories from when i was really little of lingering after we got off the ride just to take in the set design and ambiance and it was really sad to see that go ,, genuinely one of the coolest experiences i can ever remember having in a theme park

Miranda Kanowsky

Ok I haven't watched Andor but my boyfriend who hates all the limited Star Wars series and Rogue One gave it a chance and said it was really good

Woody Sims

I deleted my previous comment because I got so impassioned by the park stuff when I got to it. Disneyland Paris as a package definitely is pretty weak, but as a park (at least when I went 7 years ago) it was really cool. Phantom Manor is my favorite rendition of HM (I was sad but understanding when they took out the decaying corpse animatronic at the end), and there are a ton of little walking paths and alcoves where old-school Imagineering shines through. Highlights were the animatronic dragon under the icon castle and the Nautilus which has a giant squid animatronic encounter that I only recently learned was not CG and nearly had a heart attack thinking about. We went on Christmas Day of 2015 and still got to do everything we wanted to. It's connected to public transit from Paris and is definitely worth the trip if you're in the area.

Tash

I’m not sure if anyone will see this.., but does anyone know what she’s referring to when she’s talking about the stop motion Duffy movie and she says “it feels like Disney ripping off ___” (around 1:25:40) ripping off what??? I wanna know! So I can watch charming stop motion

Sav

“Rilakkuma”! 😁

srahhh

Rilakkuma! :)

Tash

Omg thank you!
