Ramble: Top 10 Defunct Rides

Comments

AstroEden

I have no complaints at ALL when your videos are long!!!

Reese

OML you aren't kidding. Thank you giving us such good content! 💜

David A Behlman

This is gonna be so good! I can’t believe I can’t stay up to watch it! 🙆🏻‍♀️

Sgt Sweetcheeks

I was literally just checking to see if this had been posted and I had missed the notification I'm so excited to watch

Cecile

i love long videos!!! if anything the only problem is i feel bad that it took you so long to edit a ramble! so excited for this topic

Alexandria Ritz

Babe wake up new Jenny content just dropped

DLKWolf

Hoooly. Well worth the wait. Thanks for another video 🙂 Do need something to watch while doing late night work.

Giulia Villa

I'm so excited for this! Two hours!

Toeduser

oh we’re eating good tonight!!!

Papa Q. Bear

I'm excited for this, but I'm afraid rambles are becoming too much work - they're supposed to be off the cuff and lightly edited. Jenny, push back on topics if you need to!

Luis

omg a two hour ramble 👀 forget getting sleep for work I'm watching this now!

Eric MacMillan

New record for longest (non Nancey Drew playthrough) ramble ever! Thanks Jenny, happy to let you cook if it results in such epic rambles!

Faith Paul

the fairy hat in the background 😍😍😍

Lucy J

needed this tonight :’)

Monica Carmichael

Seeing that Looney Toons river ride footage really took me back! That was my favourite ride at Movieworld on the Gold Coast. I was devastated when they closed it. They also had an amazing gremlins ride there that I loved!

Robbie Agnew

This is like heaven on earth.

Apollo Seven

I've been on the Hollywood Movie ride at Phantasialand. The boats were not single file, basically the same as Pirates of the Caribbean. And yes it was very weird and off-putting haha. I only went on it once because it was very long and kind of boring really. Lots of dead space. That figure at the loading area wad indeed a very bad Alfred Hitchcock animatronic.

Apollo Seven

Hmm... I don't think so but it might just be repressed trauma.

Leo

I was on Hollywood Tour around 2016ish. We were 4 college students and 2 younger siblings (I think 4 and 6 years old) and it actually worked pretty well for everybody. We went right back and did it again. I think the boat was relatively large, so you didn't feel like you really needed to worry.

Clara Margot

rip Space Mountain from the Earth to the Moon always in our hearts. The exterior of the ride and Discoveryland in general still have the steampunk theming though which is fun

Joshua Maust

I love the part where Jenny talks about how "coaster bros" aren't impressing anybody with their overly technical "lingo", and then 50 minutes later goes on an "Um, *actually*, -these- figures were not 'animatronics' BY DEFINITION...." tangent.

Adam Russell

Your critique about new Disney dark rides being barren and focusing on one set piece at a time is spot on and reminds me of how I feel about Universal Halloween Horror Nights compared to Knotts Scary Farm. HHN is technically impressive but there’s so many barren dark hallways in between each set piece. With Knotts, there’s less animatronics and technology but they capture the vibe so well and the entire maze is always covered in detail. You feel so much more enveloped in the world they created and tbh I wish Disney and universal hhn would focus on that instead of spending all of the budget on like 5 cool animatronics.

Kai Nahas

getting hit in the head w/ jargon is not the same as willingly listen to someone thoroughly discuss their special interests js

Kai Nahas

some ppl might think it's funny Jenny said "I'm just going to be interrupting the whole time" when it was only a wordless ridethrough - but to me I see her clearly acknowledging and responding to the story. The song the ride itself is singing.

Art By Howie

Is Hollywood Tour meant to be like Plato’s Allegory of the Cave? Probably not that deep but that’s the only thing my brain could use to justify it being in a cave

octopus for good

Yeah. Asked vs unasked is crucial here. We literally paid to hear this. Also, there's a difference between just, obscuring a conversation with a normie behind jargon they don't know, and telling someone actual information about your interests. If I rode a roller coaster and a hobbyist wanted to tell me about how that sound I liked was because the coaster was made mostly of wood or something, I'd be much more interested in that sort of thing than say, observing they called a loop an industry term to bait me into asking about it.

Hartleinrolle

As both a train and a coaster enthusiast (and theme parks, of course) I‘d like to add that trying to avoid the use of lingo, oftentimes has the opposite effect and one starts to sound condescending. In any case, from my personal experience, this is just what happens if someone‘s passionate about a certain topic and rarely if ever a means to sound like an expert.

Petie

Really needed this today. Thank you!

Jack

Filipino pronunciation of caballeros 💛💙❤️

S G Matthews

I’m in the first five minutes and I can’t help wondering how many dates Jenny’s been on where the other person was like “okay, she loves theme parks… so I’m gonna take her on all the coasters and impress her with my coaster knowledge” 😂

Emmaline Kim

I'm excited for this one! I'm just imagining Jenny getting picked up by a time traveller a la doctor who and he's like "where do you want to go first? Ancient Rome? watch the first space shuttle take off?" and Jenny is just like, "actually I have a list" and just pulls out a list of discontinued theme park rides much to his confusion

Marissa Marchant

Just sitting here watching the Hollywood Tour in mute horror.

Meg Fig

“I always say never take a Time Machine where you can go on a plane.” -Jenny Nicholson Solid advice!

Joshua Crim

Your Maelstrom story was soul crushing as it’s one of my favorite defunct attractions. I feel like the sudden closure used to be the way they did things, which was always jarring because your favorite thing could just be gone the next time you go. Or it could be like the mid 90s where rides like 20,000 Leagues and Horizons sat there with a false hope sign saying “temporarily closed” and every visit I thought maybe next time until they just disappeared.

emchovy

We all need to increase our Patreon pledges so Jenny can acquire a time machine and vlog going on these rides. This is achievable.

Val Stanton

Yes indeed “poor Epcot” 😂 I would throw in the third version of Spaceship Earth when there was scenes on the descending track and a big future city model as the finale. I love defunct Epcot

Jack Avalon

Oh no this video is so long…what a shame…we’re eating good today bois

Betsy

"I always say never take a time machine where you can go on a plane." Sage advice. 😉

Mirandahh

This was delicious, 10/10

AnnaBanana

Not super related, but I was so inspired by Jenny’s Efteling haul video that I just booked a trip there myself for this June! If there are any Efteling veterans here I would really appreciate any general tips or advice. Very excited.

SoSo_Tsundere

Gosh, I had long forgotten my trip to DW back in the late 90s as a little kid, thanks for bringing back those memories. at the time I definitely thought Epcot was the best park. The Horizons ride was amazing, I think I made my mom take me on it every day, there was some ride with a dragon named Figment that gave off NeverEnding Stories kind of 80s vibes, and I loved the Maelstrom (I just knew it as the Norway Ride) because it was cold in the summer and had no line, the gift shop had these rad little troll dolls (still at my mom's house) and the restaurant had cold fish (I was a weird kid brought up by German immigrants to think creamed herring was a good lunch option).

Markus D

I would recommend that you never watch the movie "E.T." if you want to continue having good memories of that character because it's agonizingly boring and a little scary. Also, I know this might be an unpopular opinion with Jenny, but Universal really just should've kept the Jaws ride, and I don't know why they didn't, especially since the E.T. ride feels like something that they ostensibly SHOULD get rid of/re-theme.

Teresa C

My memory of Kongfrontation is that the set *was* pretty impressive and detailed, but I'm not sure how much of that is the result of fuzzy childhood memories. I know they used it for a Horror Nights haunt at least once where you got to walk along the city streets below the ride car system, and that was really neat

Tama Hero

My memory lies to me about the Submarine Voyage ride as well. I distinctly remember being able to see the Prince Eric statue that Ariel has in her nerd cave in The Little Mermaid. But no documentation of the ride suggests that that was ever the case. This would have been probably in the late 90s when I rode it, but there's footage from this time period and it's not there. Maybe my parents were joking around and said they could see it and I thought it was real?

Markus D

For some reason, when I think about it: Real sharks in the water? Not scary, they're just animals. Dilapidated and grimy fake sharks ? Terrifying.

Meg Fig

I am realizing how lucky I am to have experienced a lot of this list. all the Disney/universal stuff in Florida I’ve been on. Kong was a great ride and when he roared at you his breath smelled like bananas. World of motion and maelstrom were boring. I was a cast member at living with the land 1999-2001 so I went through all three imagination ride versions. Horizons was amazing and deserves all the nostalgia feels it gets. Set your Time Machine for at least 1989 so you can see Buzzy. This was such a great video. Thank you for the time you give to us

Isabel Ringo

wait king triton’s carousel is gone????? 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Victoria

I never even went on the original submarine ride (I didn't go to Disneyland until 2002) but the Finding Nemo version was such a disappointment I think I was there shortly after it opened and the lines for it were so long and it was NOT WORTH IT

Brian Balster

the was a nice ramble.. Too bad it was So Short.

Brian Balster

and, Jenny Warned us that she was 'getting on her soapbox'.. And repeatedly mentioned that it didn't matter

Brian Balster

possible new ramble topic! Jenny's Terrible Dates!!

Will Donahue

"Never take a time machine where you could go on a plane" My mother used to say the same thing when I was young

Gillder

I remember going on the original submarine Voyage, and we just happened to go on one of the rare days where they had live mermaid actors, and it completely blew my 5 year old mind. Nemo version is a snooze.

Dan Gibbins

When I went to Disneyland for the first time when I was six, my absolute favourite was the Submarine Adventure, to the point where when we lost my brother I felt that this shouldn't impede me from going on the ride and seeing the sea serpent again. When I went in 2018, it was the first ride I wanted to go on with my niece, because I had done ZERO research and had no idea what became of it. It was our least favourite. The desolate remains of a treasured memory populated by screen effects summing up Finding Nemo. Bleak, bleak experience. Oh and eight-year-old me was pretty sure Kitchen Cabaret rocked. I still have my plush reggae broccoli.

Dan Gibbins

Aragog is a stylish fellow.

Dan Gibbins

Look the 10th or 11th Doctor would absolutely have been down for visiting 80s Epcot to see Kitchen Cabaret. Okay, there's a slight chance that the Maelstrom animatronics would have come alive and gone on a rampage, there are pros and cons to Tardis travel.

Skylin.

>Where would I go if i had a time machine? 80'S EPCOT 80'S EPCOT 80'S EPCOT!!!

Jenny Nicholson

Unfortunately Dr Who is exactly the kind of coaster bro I was talking about

Bethy!!

I have an irrational fear of trolls, which started as a kid, so Maelstrom was one of the most terrifying rides I have ever been on in my life. It was an impressive ride, but too many trolls that were out to kill you.

Gary

As someone who spent a lot of time surfing the east coast of Australia....They may be "Just animals" but having a 4m great white swim up and look at you is as scary as scary gets. They have the dead eyes of a psychopath. That was the last day I ventured into the ocean and I swore never to go back in.

run_away

Jenny's is definitely the most 'value added' Patreon for low tier backers, so it's an easy recommendation to make when people on social media ask about Patreon accounts to sub to or when people ask when/where Jenny's next video is. There's maybe one other I sub to who have a lot of energy directed toward their lower tier backers, but none that have, what, 30(?) exclusive videos. In a way, I think of Jenny as a Patreon creator who uses YT to promote her Patreon. Not in a negative way at all. As YTs censorship stuff gets crazier I think it'll get more common and Jenny's channel can serve as a template for creators looking to shift that way. Honestly, it reminds me of the pre-youtube days. Most popular creators had paysites, YouTube wasn't really considered a valid place to post videos and create income. Might be going that way again.

Sarah G

I had a horrible last few days so waking up to a 2 hour theme park video nearly put tears in my eyes. Thank you Jenny.

Dan Gibbins

Sad but true. He would need to pepper in coaster facts.

Moira Laidlaw

Definitely go to USJ and ride Jaws there, Jenny! The actors are giving it their all every time (tho I don’t speak Japanese so I didn’t understand what they were saying). I rode it every day that I was there (3) and they have the Spider-Man 3D dark ride that’s also at Orland and I rode that one like 20 times. And the flying dinosaur. I rode that one a lot too 😂

Markus D

I mean, I was thinking more in terms of sharks of the size of those in the ride and in a sort of pool rather than the ocean. It would also be less uncomfortable than that ride because if sharks are in the water, they wouldn't be able to keep it all grimy (but hey, they also wouldn't be able to run a ride through it, so I'm talking very hypothetically). I'm not afraid of great whites because of their eyes, but them being much bigger and more mobile in the water is definitely frightening.

Zeeeee

Yayyyy! Thank you for posting this. I have started cleaning airbnbs on the side and your ramble vids are the only way I get through them.

LKB

I loved the original Submarine Voyage and was SO disappointed by the replacement. I feel like Jenny- it’s better than an empty lake or it getting filled in, but it’s still a really bad ride.

Markus D

HOW do they make a Finding Nemo ride, based on a movie about fish, and then make BARELY ANY FISH MODELS!? That's crazy. They've made a beautiful reef set-up but then it's like they just abandoned the project! Coral reefs are amazing to look at because you can see so many species of animals interacting and existing in the same dense space, and the Disney park designers couldn't even make random schools of fish to swim around?

Markus D

I don't think that "Atlantis" is a good movie, but it's one of those things that I kind of like because it had great potential. Like, the technology is all cool, and I really like a lot of the quirky characters having watched it again as an adult (except the French mole guy, who was a bit too goofy), but it doesn't all come together into a satisfying story. It DEFINITELY would've made a cool ride regardless of being based on a mediocre movie because the underwater journey bit IS the cool part of the movie. I cannot confidently say that "Avatar: Way of the Water" is a better movie than "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" (actually, it might be worse just because it's way longer and boring) but as something that is more likely to get adapted to a ride, it's a good choice--As long as they make it more of an "experience" than something where the riders have to follow a story. I consider "Treasure Planet" PROPERLY underrated because it DOES come together in a way that works, both emotionally and as a plot, even though it's got some flaws like a lot of the humour not really hitting.

Jay Taylor

Two hours of new Jenny? It is a blessed day. ❤️

Drew Hitchcock

I am a defender of the Frozen ride, mostly due the the dearth of rides for animatronic-likers, but I also agree with your criticisms of it. Other than the troll scene, Maelstrom was mostly static elements and sound effects. Frozen has high-tech animatronics, a (much) better queue, etc, but Maelstrom sticks in my memory because it was atmospheric and mysterious in a way that the new ride isn't. Recent Disney attraction design struggles to create something as powerful as Odin yelling at you about Norway. It's weird that they have completely given up on the idea that they could make something as singular as Pirates of the Caribbean or The Haunted Mansion again.

Lee

Soooo stoked for this one omg

Hannah Vaughn

It makes me sad that you, of all people, never got to ride Maelstrom. 😣 I think it may have been the first ride I ever rode at Epcot. It was whimsical and one of my favorites. Have you been able to watch the “Spirit of Norway” show from the end of the ride? I ask because a lot of the ride-throughs on YouTube don’t include it, I think they must have stopped showing it at some point because it was too dated. The editing at the beginning is so jarring, but in an amusing way I think you would enjoy, and then it is just a delightful film for the rest of the runtime. 😊 https://youtu.be/ctKmFZ2sNlE

Ted Koutz

On the subject of the late 90's rainforest/Nature Company popularity: that was our Christmas pageant theme in like 6th grade. It was called Merry Christmas Mother Earth and since it was a public school any mention of religion was not ok, but there was dancing and upbeat music and I think Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses for some reason, there might have been a rapping portion, my memories of this are pretty hazy tho

Marius Kennedy

looked up the incident list for Mission: Space on wikipedia out of curiosity, someone did pass out on the green track. This ride seems incredibly hostile in general...

erin 🤸‍♂️

ok i never get scared but hollywood tours gave me the ick so bad, even in video form

Kate Shannon

Kongfrontation RULED! It didn't close, there was a park fire that burned it down!

Evan Chappelear

I totally agree on the Atlantis movie. That idea of the movie is much better than the actual movie.

Kyle Williams

It takes a lot to make me motion sick, and no theme park ride has ever made me feel sick to my stomach EXCEPT Mission Space. I did the orange ride the first time and nearly threw up. Because my wife wanted to try it again the next day I went again but on the green. It was better but I still didn't feel great after.

Bag of Tricks

We all know that you only mentioned seeing Buzzy as an afterthought at the end because you have him locked in your basement.

Alice

Great video! I joined after watching your chat with CJ the X and hearing about all the rambles you post here. I'm not a big theme park person, but I'm glad I got to see the Horizons ride when I visited EPCOT in 1990.

Janine

She's so right - it's exactly how I felt on Star Wars - Rise of the Resistance. There were a lot of really impressive, immersive parts, but there were also a a lot of parts where you're in a car going down a blank Empire hallway or just looking up at holographic Stormtroopers (when some of the Stormtroopers are real? it's very odd). I think if they filled it in it would be better.

Grace

The first time I ever went to Disney they had the weird Iago/Zazu tiki room overlay. It freaked me and my sister out. Especially since according to whatever guidebook my parents had everyone had just been expecting singing birds 😐

Jacob Crowe

I'm glad Jenny remembered HER BOY

Jack Hancock

The coaster heads are called Thoosies now. But coming from that community yeah you're spot on about them.

Luis

Such a beautiful ramble but also kinda sad knowing we'll never get to experience these attractions firsthand 😔 At least they live on in people's memories and there are pictures and videos and great people like Jenny to help us remember them!

Torie Berke

Literally was just vibing here waiting for Jenny to talk about Horizons.

Rachel Cook

I would definitely use a Time Machine to ride Horizons one more time. And I am absolutely tickled that you’ve also read Mesa Verde Times. But you left out that the fridge in the kitchen scene with the dad and his son had a dildo in it!

Bryan Sutton

"I always say never take a time machine where you can go on a plane." I appreciate the pause to allow us to reflect on that piece of wisdom.

David A Behlman

Right, and one you get used to calling a favorite element by it's specific name it's way easier than having to describe it every time. (Though like the subtleties with a zero-g roll vs a zero-g stall can make you sound a mite crazy.)

Allessandra

I’m not gonna lie I thought you were just making up kingdom of the lounge lizards. Would not have believed you without the pictures. That is the #1 ride I would visit with a time machine

Steph K

I think a problem with coasterheads is that it really is a very male dominated community, and men who are nerdy about things love to be like that and try to "impress" you. I'm not a dude and feel very outnumbered in that space. Sometimes they try to start explaining things to me even before realizing I know all the terms they're talking about already. I try not to and I really hope I'm never that annoying coaster person for somebody else tho lol.

David A Behlman

100% Last fall Spielberg movies were back in theaters a bit, in 3D. Saw Jaws and E.T.. E.T. was enjoyable but awkward and silly. Jaws is a mastapiece.

David A Behlman

I went last fall to DL and I consider the Subs a must ride. Even though the screens at the end weren't even working -how embarrassing. But I'm just enchanted by the ride system. Jenny's views on modern Epcot expresses what I get from the Nemo Subs. I pretend, when I can, that it's the old version...

Markus D

I don't even find E.T. enjoyable, but I also always thought that the alien himself was gross-looking and kind of creepy when I guess a lot of people think he's cute? I still stand by my claim that the movie is crazy boring though. It's about 2 hours but feels like 3 for me. While my dislike of Jaws is definitely coloured by how it hurt the public perception of sharks for way too long because humans are stupid, I also just... don't like it all that well. I'll call Psycho a horror masterpiece, even if it's a bit dated— I still feel tension watching it— but I don't particularly like any characters in Jaws and the shark effects REALLY don't hold up. Jaws is one of those older movies where you hear that people were scared and just sit there in disbelief, like with King Kong.

tofu nugget

2 hr Jenny video? Eating well today

David A Behlman

You don't seem hypocritical at all to me. The differences in those rides are quite apparent. Actual space vs implied space is an easy battle. I have to mention that my #1 is certainly Kingdom of the Dinosaurs. Generic? Maybe, for me it's straight up iconic! I grew up going to Disneyland about once a year with Knott's and Universal, happening less - and only one trip to Magic Mountain. Anyway, I recall often being so stoked to see the dinosaurs at Disney, then always disappointed. I had remembered being surrounded by dinosaurs and I needed my fix. Where was it? I convinced myself the Disneyland Railroad scene must have been what my young mind was fixated on...until finally just this past year, Poseidon Entertainment delved into Knott's at length. Upon seeing the footage of KoD I was blown away with ancient validation! My dinosaurs! and ngl, that scientist totally was #goals for me.

David A Behlman

My biggest problem is ET is how hokey it is. Mostly the scene when ET's at home watching TV and him watching TV is having a direct impact on Eliot's day at school. Just madness. Whereas Jaws just works. Unlikable characters in thrillers are common, and Brody's lack of confidence or relative spinelessness early on is at least justified by his newness to the role of sheriff and apprehension about water. Wait... you don't like the crazy over the top sailor man?! Or nerdy science guy who somehow lives?

Alex Andra

Yes thank you as a person who loves Atlantis it’s not that good of a movie and is adequately rated. People need to normalize being okay with their personal opinion not matching the objective quality.

Markus D

I just find Brody boring, and I never liked the trope of the "crazy sailor man", at least not when portrayed as a hero. Hell, I think he makes the movie come off as pretty "hokey". I had to look up the "nerdy science guy" because while I remembered that there were three guys at the end of the movie, I had basically no recollection of what Richard Dreyfuss' character did. It's a movie that's all put together properly, but I just don't find it very interesting or thrilling. I'll watch Jaws if other people want to, but I never think to myself "I want to watch Jaws."

Who Are These People

I got the feels. I'm not a theme park aficionado like Jenny, but I wistfully imagine going to the opera back when it was cool; men in tuxedos, women in satin floor-length dresses and feathered hairpieces, Bjorling, Tebaldi, Corelli, Nilsson, Pavarotti, Callas drawing crowds of fans like rock stars...Why do we all live with these unrequitable longings?

emast

i’m also obsessed w horizons and am too young to have gone on it, and when you described mission space that replaced it i had a vivid memory of my family’s trip to disney where our entire bit that whole trip was how bad that ride was. down to the barf bags in the ride and everything. makes it sting that much more that i could have experienced horizons instead if they never replaced it with that god awful ride😭😭😭

TalysAlankil

as a european person let me tell you : space mountain from the earth to the moon was SO much cooler than the star wars re-theme and i'm still mad about it. it's not even because i have an issue with star wars, but the re-theming feels half-assed, most of the queue is bare or is just still part of the old queue, it feels completely disjointed, and in the ride itself it's just some screens where it used to be physical sets

Brianna Bartlett

If the Kong ride is the one where you're on like a subway car at one point and the ground caves in on you and such - that ride was SO cool and unique. My family references it in any theme park discussion lol I was so bummed when it changed to like the Mummy or something

Jesse Walker-McGraw

I get home it would feel silly to use a time machine to go to a theme park ride, but in a way it's sort of like seeing a destroyed piece of art? I mean, obviously there are better places to go if you have a time machine, but these rides are so unique, detailed, and creative, it makes sense to me to want to see them

leo

This video just unearthed a memory I have suppressed for like ten years because I fucking went on the Hollywood Tour ride!! I have a debilitating phobia of sharks and I remember sitting in that fucking boat shaking like a leaf not knowing if opening my eyes could possibly be worse than what I was imagining everybody else was seeing. My family just would not tell me what was going on and I thought they were being mean, but having watched this it was actually very kind of them not to tell me we were actively being attacked by rotting sharks lol

Shred Cadmium

Sorry to pile on a little! However it's not that lingo or jargon is itself an issue, but how you present it and the effect that has on others Jenny says that using technical lingo without explaining it is exclusionary. Then later when using technical lingo she *does* explain it, which is inclusionary So there isn't any inconsistency - the hypothetical coaster bro and Jenny on 'animatronics' are taking exact opposite approaches to this sort of stuff 👍

Shaun Cheah

When it was first mentioned that she was going to visit Efteling at some point, I rushed to make plans to go (I'd experienced it once with family friends way back when I was a kid, and now one of the girls who was with us is a mother with kids who are closer to our age back then than we are now... That sentence turned into a mess, but, *time*, man. It sure does pass.) as soon as possible so I could compare the video with my own experience there, but then some point around the Star Wars Hotel video, I made the decision to go *after* the Efteling video is released, so I can seek out the stuff in the video instead of noticing places I'd recognized as I watched the video.

Shaun Cheah

Oh man, Figment is huge in this community. You'll do well here if you're already staring off with big respect for Figment.

Shaun Cheah

I'd buy it. Gaslighting your children is a time-honoured American pastime. Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, a Prince Eric statue... it all fits.

Shaun Cheah

I'd go further; heading back to 280,000,000 BCE and not leaving until I get to drape a tuxedo off an actual Dimetrodon.

Skylin.

Legitimately there is nothing i want to do more in a time machine than go nack to the 80's and visit epcot. OG journey into imagination, horizons, dreamfinder meet n greet, kitchen kabaret. I dont want to see dinosaurs, i don't want to visit my grandmother, and i dont know if i could murder someone. So EPCOT!!!

Shred Cadmium

Aye - I think it used to be true that they were kinda quick-fire vids, but maybe things have changed. YouTube has certainly changed. The Patreon has changed beyond all recognition! - the hope used to be enough funds for a stuffed crust pizza, iirc? 🍕 Rather more successful now 😁 So when folks say things like this I do appreciate the sentiment - and it is a very nice sentiment, so I am sorry if I'm stepping on it! ☹️ However I feel like the sentiment doesn't give Jenny enough credit for building such a successful Patreon, independently making very good decisions over many years about how things should work, and being very obviously in total charge of what she's comfortable with and not comfortable with. I'm not a Pardner (although howdy 🤠) but all the evidence suggests that Jenny does push back whenever she needs to 👍

Natalie

I love both of yalls comments!

Eric Cheung

I knew Buzzy would get mentioned.

Jenny Nicholson

Yeah Rise of the Resistance is another good example, a lot of big Spaceship rooms with absolutely nothing in them but 1 impressive looking Kylo Ren animatronic. Some of the less elaborate moving parts (the cannons that used to blast forwars so the cars had to maneuver around them) have even been shut off since opening to save maintenance costs

RadCatCreations

I remember as a kid going to the park the first time the Tiki Room Under New Management opened and I was so confused. I was like this is not the peaceful fun bird show I am familiar with. I didn't like it, but I am grateful for the few years I went and got to experience it.

RadCatCreations

Also lost my mind when you read my comment about the Hollywood Tour ride lol That ride terrifies me

Lily Hibiscus

Hollywood Adventure sparked an idea: a ride that's DELIBERATELY made to look like an abandoned theme park ride. Like the wait area has pictures of "the ride" when it was new, with nice animatronics and painted scene backgrounds and lights. A fake narrator explaining the rich history of this ride and how it was innovative for its time and beloved by guests. But the ride itself is full of decaying animatronics whose vocal tracks and movements are warped, lights flicker randomly and one "explodes," set pieces almost fall on you, the painted backgrounds are molding, the music goes backwards in a couple places, maybe even something like an animatronic from the first room shows up in other rooms where it doesnt fit in at all and isn't acknowledged at all (and you have to look really hard for it, its in a corner or on the ceiling or something). It would be so unsettling and surreal.

Casper Sturm

I love roller coasters but I feel like as just a theme park fan, coaster fans often take over any space that isn't disney specifically. like i find it really difficult to find theme park content on like, busch gardens, cedar fair parks, or six flags that doesn't center on coasters alone

T. Fazekas

“We have roller coasters at home.” Real dark ride mom energy there. Coaster Bros Unite!

Mallory Brems

Did veggie tales rip off kitchen cabaret?

Michelle M.

Your Maelstrom rant made me so nostalgic. I live in the south, and as a child we went to WDW a lot. My favorite park even when I was young was Epcot, and I ADORED Maelstrom. My whole family did - we have Scandinavian heritage and loved that sort of thing. We rode it every single time we visited. We were devastated when they removed it for Frozen…I still haven’t ridden that ride mostly out of spite.

Devin M

What’s sad is that I think I may have gone on Horizons in 1998, but I can’t tell if my vague memories are real or if I’ve just seen video. We started going to Florida every year in 1998 and we definitely went to Epcot. I was 12 or 13, I should remember 😭

Lise

Around 1:36:15 you talk about some panflute music that sounds like it belongs in 90s educational programming. I think you’re thinking of the Eyewitness series. That intro music slaps so hard

Petie

I think I posted the day you posted about really need this which I did. I finally got to finish today. That was fantastic and the reason why we're all up in your patreon. It took me forever to figure out you had a patreon though. If you had posted some shorter vids on your main channel that somehow let folks that only know you from youtube's algorithm know that this is here, you might get even more traffic? idk. I'm not famous or awesome the same way you are. PS I hope abandoned animatronic vids comes back as a topic.

Mister CPU

I would go to 1976 for The World of Sid and Marty Krofft to ride the pinball ride.

Jenny Nicholson

WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT idk if the ride itself had much going on but I'd definitely bump something off the list to see the World

Brian Tatosky

Went to EPCOT in 85 *and* saw the space shuttle launch. Part of me thinks my life peaked that trip.

Luis

Wow EIGHTEEN THOUSAND patrons that is very cool 😎 I'm so proud to part of this community 🤠

Jaz Mei Luo

Jenny saying she goes to EPCOT to imagine visiting a version of it that was cool reminded me of when she said she was watching the honeymoon montage scene in Fifty Shades Freed and imagining herself being someone who would enjoy the montage

Eric MacMillan

I fact checked what score you gave Ice Age in your Non-Disney Animated movies ratings ramble. You gave it a B, based solely on having recently watched the same Youtube video about Ice Age Adventure that you played here, and even showed us a bunch of the same clips lmao. I appreciate that a movie can have its rating increased by having a defunct tie-in ride that someone made a ride through video for and posted it on Youtube.

Eric Houge

Whenever I see a cursor in somebody's screen recorded video, I always put MY cursor over it, because my cursor is bigger and covers it completely, which is satisfying.

Ridge

I could see a group like Meow Wolf doing something really cool with that concept

Totesnotasheep

I really appreciate when you go into further detail about all the rides, like the ride systems and how certain effects are achieved. It's not something I would think about but it's so interesting when you explain it and then I'm like "oh I should think about that more." When I went to Disney after your avatar video I really went out of my way to enjoy the more unique things there and the ambiance of the whole park, which really made me appreciate it all so much more. Have you been to/are you interested in Busch Gardens? I feel like they have a big emphasis on shows and scenery, so it's a pleasant place to be. The one in Williamsburg has a cool castle ride and I think a show about being small and you're put in a box, but it's been a while since I've been.

Amy Shine

As an autistic person, that part about rollercoasters bros feels like a personal attack. 😂 I'm just kidding. Im not into roller coasters. I'm not into trains. But what you described reminded me of my tendency to info dump.. I'm learning to balance that.

Lilium

Thanks for creating this yummy content for us Jenny!

Alice Scarpa

A couple of years ago Europa Park rethemed its dinosaur dark ride Universum der Energie into Madame Freudenreich Curiosités by adding cute costumes, baking scenes and expansive lore (including a children's book). People on Google Maps reviews are still split on if this was a terrible waste or a brilliant move. I have only experienced the current version, and I can't imagine how it could be better without the knitted costumes

JAKE

the hollywood tour had to be built by the Phantom of the Opera it's got his sad basement bro aesthetic including threat of constant trauma to the head and/or neck

Chelsea Counsell

As someone who really doesn't know much about theme park rides, I super enjoyed this. Great round up. <3

Kara Kaspar

That was a really bad marlin impression lol no offense 😂

O

I love how much Jenny loves animatronics despite how scared she is of them

O

Carosel of Progress is a perfect ride. Absolutely no notes. Nothing needs to be fixed, you must simply learn to love the awkward dialogue and excellent score.

Shaun Cheah

It is often the things we love which hurt us most.

Cynethryth

I loved Maelstrom! What I remember the most is that the vibe was really eerie in the coolest possible way. Despite being a short ride, the tableaus were really cool to look at and the drop was surprisingly fun. There was hardly ever a line despite being full, so we'd go on it like 3 times before leaving the Norway pavilion. I was so mad when I found out they replaced it with a Frozen ride, because as fun as Frozen is, Maelstrom was timeless and really unique at WDW. I am floored that I have never heard of Horizons. My family absolutely visited Epcot a few times while it was still open, and I don't think we ever went on it! Bit upset now, tbh. Thanks for sharing!

How To Be A. Looney

Did you actually read my suggestions? I agree the first 3 scenes are perfect, it's the terrible updates to scene 4 that need fixing. And the score is great, but I miss the other song, and wish for both songs to be part of the score. And wouldn't you like to see the animatronic Walt I suggest for the much-needed new after-show?

Rae Leo

i’ve only been to disneyland twice. the first time i went in 2005 the finding nemo ride was still being built. as a kid i remembered thinking that ride sounded soooo cool and i really wanted to go on it. i went for the second and last time in 2014 and i’m glad a didn’t waste any time of my senior trip on it. never even crossed our minds to go on it.

Captain Langosta AKA The Yellow Dart AKA Kyle

Universal Studios should make a Horizons-style ride depicting a utopian future where Disney parks again make immersive, high-detail animatronic rides about cool themes.

EB

My family already knew I couldn't do the full Mission Space because of a congenital heart defect so we did the green version; it just ended up giving my sister a claustrophobic panic attack

DLKWolf

Isn't it more that she's scared of unused and abandoned animatronics? Kind of like our aversion to a dead corpse.

Kristen Cocciante

It is hilarious that there r ppl that think they’re cool cuz they kno all the names of the parts of the coaster, like just admit u like to ride the thing that go fast and spin around, me too, there’s no shame in that

Nick Oswalt

I’m somewhere in the middle- I like the names of some of the elements on a coaster (they’re fun!!) and having language for which elements give which sensations (airtime, positive/negative G’s, etc) but like at the same time it feels so unbelievably gatekeepy and grosses me out. Like I LOVE riding all kinds of coasters and through that special interest have learned some coaster bro lingo, but in practice I’ll get off a ride and say “woo go fast, I like drop” and leave it at that lol. Apparently coaster bros call themselves “thoozies” which is short for enthusiasts. Major gatekeepers lol

JFCo

The best thing about Horizons you didn’t mention was the smell! They pumped in lovely orange scent into your favorite scenes on the farm. After a couple years, the entire building had a faint smell of oranges as soon as you walked in. As a cast member, I jumped at the chance to pick up a shift at horizons. All I did was greeter and grouper, but it really was a dumb dream. My hair smelled of oranges after my shift. I can promise you that when I was walking down the exit ramp as a guest, I appreciated it as much as you would have. I am immensely grateful that I was lucky enough to visit EPCOT in the time period you would take the Time Machine to. It really was glorious. I was surprised you didn’t have the original Imagination on your list.

Jaz Mei Luo

what she lacks in fish voices she makes up for in pony voices

OzPawz

every time i think i know shit about theme parks jenny starts talking about the weirdest attractions I've never seen

Moonie Bonzo

The Knott's dino ride is such a staple of my childhood. For Christmas they used to give public employees 2-4 free tickets (depended on the year) and discounted tickets for their families, and both my parents do types of social work so we went every year almost for free. My brother was obsessed with the dinosaurs and the ride attendants would usually let us just stay on for like 30 minutes at a time. I always do that scientist "YoU'rE GoInG bAcK iN TyYYmE" voice but no one ever knows what I'm doing.

Torie Gatti

Petition to have Jenny react to more “scary”theme park rides or abandoned animatronics 🥹 those submachanophobia are some of my favorite too 🤣

JoeySnowyNoey

I went on that Kong ride as a kid and while I barley remember it, I remember it being huge as fuck! Lol that being said I was a little kid and barley remembered it. At the end they had a huge Kong you could take pictures with which was pretty cool. I have a picture of my mom and I with him.

Matthew Clark

Horizons is a ride I remember fondly from the few times I got to go on it as a little kid. I do remember my uncle was an electrician at the time and go to work on the ride when they were first building it. I feel lucky I got to see some of these great Epcot rides before they were removed, even if I was so young that I only barely remember them.

yeehaw

i audibly gasped at the Totsy unicorn in the background!!

funkypenguin3000

my favorite roller coaster as a kid was a themed roller coaster! It was like a green dragon (but like, a whimsical dragon) at this theme park in wales...i was scared of roller coasters, but went on that one because the dragon looked so friendly

Katie Pearce

Alice from The Mickey Mouse Revue was moved to the Disneyland Alice ride for a while actually. She was taken out in the 2014 refurb. You can see her in some old ride through videos to the right of the track at the beginning of the Golden Afternoon scene. The CM that told me so said she was terrified of her when she would walk the track because she was completely out of place and uncanny in the environment

Julian Greer

loved this video jenny! thank you for continuing to make them! i definitely appreciate the longer ones and i guess a lot of others do too. they’re so relaxing and engaging at the same time.

Haley Kean

he's blowing in the tuba with his horn

Kira Fauli

With the maelstrom Norwegian ride I really think Jenny would like “Eventyrskottet I Hunderfossen Familiepark”. The name is the YouTube for the ride. And the whole park. Really gives me Jenny vibes💚🤎

Adrienne R

Jenny came for blood in those first four minutes

Rice G.

Surprised you didn't put the old version of Journey in to Imagination on the list! That and the french Space Mountain would be my top picks. Also re: atlantis...yeah i agree its overrated lol (or not underrated), but i actually thought the characters were one of the movies strong points, and I like it a lot better than Treasure Planet, the other "underrated" post renaissance disney movie that you can make people mad by saying you thought it was mid lmao. Anyway great vid as always, theme park content is always my fav 👍

MW

Was there another video where Jenny talked about hating the frozen ride? couuldn't tell if i was having deja vu or not. but i definitely stayed up way to late watching this, and i was really sold on the OG submarine ride

WhatAlsaid!

I actually have a pretty neat idea on how they could incorperate Avatar: The Way of Water into Disneyland, in addition to your idea of retheming the terrible Finding Nemo ride. So spoilers for the sequel, but they bring back Miles Quaritch AKA the evil general from the first movie, but this time, he's a clone of himself as an Avatar, and he's also a lot more sassy and sarcastic here than he was in the first one, and I guess because of that, he's starting to develop a growing fanbase on Tumblr and TikTok, Think Loki after the first Avengers movie. Because of this, my pitch would be for Disney to build a Quaritch animatronic, similar to the one they have in Pandora at Disneyworld, and have it propped up on a stage and synced to a person in another room doing dialogue interactions with the guests, similar to turtle talk with Crush at Epcot. But instead of just talking with the guest, he actively insults you via witty takedowns based on your appearence, kinda like how they do at Karen's Diner. It wouldn't be too harsh, but it would be a lot punchier than what you're used to from Disneyland. It would be a pretty fun way to lean into this guy's growing fanbase, and also hype up Avatar 3, which, spoiler alert, he will ALSO be in, because this guy is basically unkillable now. The only way to make sure people don't forget the Avatar franchise AGAIN is by ACTUALLY interacting with fans, which the first one did kind of a terrible job at.

Eric MacMillan

In the "Best Animatronics" ramble she talks about liking some of the animatronics on the ride but also talked a bunch about not liking the ride overall for many of the same reasons she mentions here.

Markus D

Ah, I think that Treasure Planet is better than Atlantis overall because it has a more cohesive plot with a better emotional core (though I'm not going to be offended by people who think differently), but I totally agree that the characters of the expedition team were a strong point of the movie. Like, I didn't have a proper appreciation for them as a kid, but it's cool that they were all from different cultural backgrounds and were implied to have been given this opportunity in a time where, particularly the women and POC, would have usually been left out of the sciences or exploration like this. They really were a cast that deserved a better movie, and it feels kind of weird, all things considered, to go back to it and be excited for Vinny and Dr. Sweet and Ramirez instead of... y'know, the Atlantis part. I've actually thought that, among all the absolutely garbage Disney live-action remakes, Atlantis is one that might ACTUALLY benefit from that treatment--Provided they get a better writer than usual. And I do really like the unique animation style, but it's more far-fetched to believe that current Disney would invest in that, unfortunately.

Markus D

I thought it was super weird that her cursor was almost the same COLOUR as mine so I mistook it for mine a few times.

Markus D

If it's any consolation (and, I did catch that you were kidding) as an autistic person myself, it felt more like she was calling out people who throw out big words to try to impress you with their esoteric knowledge and not people who will be fully explaining their interest.

Noelle

The dwarves in mine train were from the OG Snow White Florida ride

clarkinator

As someone who was at Phantasialand in 2019, that spider has always stuck into my memory as disgusting and way too scary for what that ride is trying to be

Gnome Choomsky

Do you remember in jurassic park where the guy said "auto-erotic" instead of "animatronic"? I feel like that'll always stick with me for some reason 🤔

AKL

I always thought that your opinion of Tiki room was heavily biased because of your time as a cast member, but this just reminded me that the only time I ever rode it was when it was "under new management!" I feel like Randy Moore's wife!

SkittleE

My crying, wailing, and gnashing of teeth as Jenny (and everybody else) rags on one of my favorite rides at Disney World, Mission: Space. Did you know it's actually so realistic that NASA used to train astronauts on it? Maybe the little part of me that wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid is what makes me like it, although actually now that I think about it the ride is the reason I wanted to be an astronaut in the first place, so never mind.

Alison Cheung

I don't even like Ice Age, still have never watched it just because of disinterest, but that ride looks adorable and super charming. It immediately flashed me back to visiting a local natural history museum, but the diorama scenes are coming to animatronic life and you get to be inside the diorama too. I think it was also really neat seeing those 2000s-era 3D animated characters translated into real life, with the same cartoon proportions but realistic fur and physicality, kind of like how they would maybe look if that movie somehow got remade with current Pixar animation quality. Would have loved to give them some nice pats on their rustwater-free fur

ParadoxPortals

Glad to see someone who feels the same way. Horizons was incredible, yes, and M:S can't compare, but boy is it a fun ride. And with the recent update to Green and Orange Teams, it's almost like two different ride experiences! Fantastic!

orion

not even a theme park fan but i grew up in florida and maelstrom was my childhood favorite disney ride + my siblings and i would linger as long as we could after getting off the carts just so we could keep looking around …. very sad day for me when they closed it </333

SkittleE

I love the updates! And since the line can get so short my brother and I have a tendency to go on it again and again and again and again until we make ourselves sick

Zach Theberge

I worked at Six Flags Magic Mountain for a season, so I can understand the vibe of destroying abandoned areas of a badly-run SoCal theme park.

Samantha Ansley

So happy to watch these (long) videos - they’re great! Thanks for giving the people what they want!

Avatar

I can't stop wondering what the smell of that Hollywood ride would be, and I will never know.

Mack

I haven't been to California Adventure in many years and this video is how I found out the King Triton's carousel closed. I'm so upset.

Emma Tindall

It’s kind of odd that in that mickey mouse revue highlight reel they KEPT song of the south but cut alice??

Kari

Just got home from Disney World and appropriately appreciated Sonny Eclipse and Orange Bird thanks to you! 🍊

Langston McKee

Great job Jenny, loved the video! Keep it up!

Allison Otting

I think that one was the simulation of the “big one” California earthquake, but it was a really neat ride! I remember the water flooded into the station too. The Kong ride was around at the same time, and you kind of glided through the city until Kong grabs your cable car and swings it around

Markus D

I mean, can you really be so hard on people for being hard on it when it so consistently makes people sick?

Markus D

When you were talking about Kingdom of the Dinosaurs and how if it were still around kids would be filming TikToks of them "slapping the triceratops or whatever" I had to take a moment to stop laughing because of that image.

Jaackaryy

Oh my godddd!!!! I’m from australia and I went on that Looney Tunes River Ride as a kid and I loved it!!! legit went on it like 4 times on one day when I went too movie world lol

Lindsey

That Hollywood Adventure ride is genuinely one of the creepiest rides I’ve ever seen… no roller coaster could ever

Susan Held

I saw Finding Dory in my 30s with a theater full of small children, and throughout the Pixar short and then the intro scenes with baby Dory one toddler just kept yelling "WHERE'S DORY? WHERE'S DORY?" so that's how I imagine Jenny on the first section of the Finding Nemo ride.

Ariel Ash

I am so curious if Jenny has any favorite theme park vloggers! I’m almost positive she has watched some as theme parks are her passion but to my knowledge she has never named any in her videos. I personally love Magic Journeys, Fresh Baked and the Tim Tracker!

Michael Castleberry

Thank you for describing exactly why newer Disney rides underwhelm me. I was do excited for the Na'vi River Journey or whatever it's called, then got on and it was like 7 minutes, had a couple projections, then a SUPER DETAILED shaman at the end.

Tim De Frog

Does anyone have a link to that Horizons Kelp Harvester eBay auction? Even if it is gone I need to know how much it sold for.

Mia Omdal

My dad hates theme parks, Disney World, and most rides because he has severe motion sickness, however he LOVED Malestrom when I was younger. He went on it 9 times in one day once. He loved it. I thought it was the best ride in Epcot because my dad was so excited about it for so long. We would get to Epcot and run STRAIGHT to Malestrom. I really didn’t realize how unpopular this ride was until I was much older. Thanks for reminding me of that, Jenny!

Ian Ramsay

Not sure if someone else has brought this up, but the only reason i can think of to set the Hollywood Tour ride in a cave would be in reference to how film prints are commonly stored in old salt mines to help prolong their life. The air in those mines is naturally cool/dry, which is ideal for storing negatives. It's a stretch for sure...but maybe?

Hazel Singh

Not theme park vloggers, but she has collabed with Defunctland and mentioned friends at Podcast the Ride!

Iverson 🐊

This was a great first video to watch after pledging 🤠

Bibs McTavish

Can confirm you got a roller coaster bro on patreon

Libby

Maelstrom being taken out for the frozen ride is a perfect example of like “remember what they took from you” it was one of my favorite rides in Disney and was my fave in Epcot. I was so upset when they switched it out.

Lynae Zebest

I am so squicked out that they would have divers in that water... the water was/is heavily contaminated with heavy metals, lead, mercury, etc because the same water circulates throughout basically the whole park & all the gas-powered motors were running in the water etc. I know this cuz my dad was part of the team who cleaned the waterways ~1989... after Disney had been just paying the daily EPA violation fees for years. They wore full body protection for this work. To the best of his knowledge there hasn't been another cleaning since then, though it's possible.

Lynae Zebest

Lol, I just noticed that they actually had to stop having the live mermaids in the lagoon because the water was making them sick... and that was in the early 70s...

Dylan

This video made me realize that I might be a closeted coaster bro. (I mean I do not use like the nerd terms to describe a track, other than air time but that seems pretty self explanatory way to describe when your butt is out of your seat. But hearing that 'all coasters are pretty much the same' hit me and made me react in a way I was not expecting.)

Maddy

i think about king tritons carousel all the time!!! its so special and nostalgic to me and i miss those airbrushed colorful sea creatures so much :,( i want to own one in my home

Chris Tierney

Wait so was my old teddy ruxpin doll technically an audioanimatronic?? (I'm sorry if this observation has already been made, there are 220 previous comments and I simply cannot)

Marisa Leon

i also miss the carousel. It was so beautiful, definitely one of my favorite carousels I miss it so much but no one remembers it :'( I am also so, so sorry you never got to experience maelstrom. That was such a fun ride and I went on it when I was young enough that the trolls still scared me a little bit. Definitely peak time to ride it. I also agree with you about frozen, the blank hallway annoys me so much. They took away a ride with such character just to have THAT. I feel like they also did this with the navi river journey. They blew their budget on the shaman and the rest of the ride is pretty barren. every time i went on it some of the projections just were not working and now it's at a point where the shaman breaks down so much that i don't think there's a single thing in there that works 100% of the time.

Rachel Paige

Omg I have experienced the “Under New Management” version of the Tiki Room! Completely forgot about it until you mentioned it.

Shannon Lumpkin

The milk carton in Kitchen Kabaret was reused in Food Rocks! He sings an updated version of The Police's "Every Breath You Take" called "Every Bite You Take" and it's about dairy foods. I was a kid when Food Rocks was there so i love it lol.

Bethy!!

Kong was AMAZING! It scared the crud out of me as a kid, but was actually a really good ride when I got older.

Starlit Rain

Im from near Phantasialand and have ridden Hollywood tour many times and it scared me so much when i was a kid lmao. They also used to have a 1001 night (?) themed ride where you drove into a dragon's mouth and a silvermine one in what used to be the wild west land/area of the park. i wish i could talk to jenny directly about the park's history and older rides cuz im not sure how much you find on the english internet about it.

Garrett Gilchrist

I went to Epcot once, and Maelstrom was such a wonderful highlight in an area of the park that didn't have a lot of rides like that. I'll always be salty that they got rid of it!

Lily Smith

i remember specifically learning that the snow white dancing in the cottage at the end of the seven dwarfs mine train was reused/repurposed from an older attraction. that was in 2014 when we had a disney tour guide who took us on the train a few times and obviously told us lore and stuff. i don't distinctly remember Him Saying That Fact, nor do i remember the attraction of origin--only so many options though--but i'm not sure where else i would've gotten that idea at the time

Scott Reyes

Super late to the party, but those "random" mice from Mickey Mouse Revue are Monty Citymouse and Abner Countrymouse from the 1936 animated short film "The Country Cousin"

Scott Reyes

Yeah me neither tbh, just checked wikipedia haha. Also those perfume bottles in the background of the video are Re-ment My Little Fairy Polly Pocket style sets right? You're so lucky to get them, they're pricey on ebay now.

Scott Reyes

*Re-ment My Little Fairy Cosme

Julie Gilles

I'm from Germany and went on the Hollywood Tour numerous times, especially on one occasion with my sister. She was like 10 years old and she was SCARED TO DEATH. In my recollection, the ride wasn't that scary, but after rewatching it with you I have to apologize to my sister for making fun of her. This looks so scary, I can't believe I enjoyed it at that time.

Maus

I’ll never forgive Movie World Gold Coast for not only removing the Looney Tunes River Ride but replacing it with a children’s driving track around an empty mock-up of the park. Technically adults can ride it but the cars are so small you have to sit on boot of the car with you legs in the seat area and kinda hunch over the steering wheel. As far as I know, they didn’t even reuse any of the animatronics in it, it’s just facades with a couple of plastic statues. I’m at least glad to hear that the German park hasn’t completely abandoned it 🥲

Patrick Clough

Honestly yeah, I definitely find myself being a coaster bro now but I think that's down to adoring theme parks and not finding any content that wasn't just about the rollercoasters. I didn't even like coasters as a kid but was still obsessed. I wish there were more content specifically on things like weird six flags/cedar fair dark rides or theming. It's all just "top 10 rollercoasters in the cedar flags chain" gets super old fast

maxie24

But you’re not expecting people to be impressed by using those esoteric words and such. That’s the difference.

Kate Mazur

aw i also miss submarine voyage ;-;

dayy_dreamz

i'm very similar in that i think roller coasters are fun and i'd try them out, but what I truly love is a ride that's well themed! my favorite roller coasters at my local park are the ones that are highly themed, rather than JUST a roller coaster. theming and learning about a ride's lore just makes them so much better i wish smaller parks utilized it more (but i understand since its so expensive). also i've never heard of horizons at epcot before, i've slowly been getting into learning about theme parks these past couple of years but i guess i still have much to learn about! the ride looks so detailed and fun, i wish i had been able to ride it!

Agnes H

Omg, finally subscribed and this is the first video I watched. I think about Hollywood tour quite often. When I rode it at like thirteen it still had “The birds” scene and it was maybe the scariest thing I had ever seen especially the jerky murderous birds tearing at that bad blonde wig. Riding it felt like making a vague scary memory in real time. But as a morbid kid I did love it a lot and it cemented my fascination and love of dark rides.

Larry Hastings

One thing Nemo Submarine Adventure did that frustrated Jenny was the weird line from the captain saying we can "actually hear the fish talk". Why is that there?! It's a callback to the original Submarine Voyage narration. The captain told us this new sonar hydrophone technology means we can "actually hear the fish talk", and then we hear some weird (fake?) fish noises.

Hazel Davis

These are my favorite videos you do. Just love them! Old Epcot really was something. I think you're right to want to go back and see it. Maybe you can even buy one of those lightup plastic visors we all had! I try not to get too 'old lady yells at cloud' about how Epcot has changed but sometimes it's good to get it out a wee bit.

Wendy R

Just joined as a Patron so late comment but this video is gold! I’m Gen X and was a Cast Member for a long time so I saw many of the WDW choices either as a Guest as a kid or from working there so some comments: World of Motion was actually great as a ride, so many animatronics and immersion all around you but if you watch video of it now it aged really poorly. Bits or scenes that were “funny/whimsical” then (1982) have aged like milk so changing to Test Track was a good idea. The Mickey Mouse Revue was amazing and is one of my fondest childhood memories—it was the definition of magical to have all the iconic characters together and as animatronics. The reason it left WDW was when Japan was doing the deal for Tokyo Disneyland they specifically wanted the MMR, so rather than cloning it which would have been expensive, they sent it to Tokyo. And you are correct on some repurposing, when it closed in Tokyo the Drawfs & the organ are now in the cottage scene at Mine Train 😀, and the Three Cabarellos are in the Epcot Mexico ride but they are definitely reskinned and look a lot better. And yep, Horizons was awesome and the definition of the original ethos of Epcot. And it would have aged like fine wine. It would have needed some updating, but if you watch videos of it, it still works. It didn’t go b/c of a sinkhole (urban legend) it was the loss of GE as the sponsor and it was too expensive to maintain without a corporate sponsor. If I had a time machine I’d go to Horizons, MMR, and Kitchen Kabaret as much as I could. You made great choices!!

Wyatt Case

the hairy animatronics in the water of Hollywood tour gave me forreal goosebumps

bug

I think it's fine to want people to be impressed by your knowledge of something you've put a lot of time and effort into researching, though. If i rode a roller coaster with someone who knew the fandom/industry turns for all the loops and twists and drops, and was able to recall which ones a ride had, or identify them from experiencing it, I would be impressed, and interested! I think it's fine as long as someone isn't trying to make you feel stupid for not having. the same breadth of knowledge

Zoë Collis

Aragog looks very smart in his flower hat, I had an excellent, hideous version that was a strawberry like this as a tween. it suits him much better

Joe Robinson

When Jenny said "You're going back in time!" I had a viscery memory of riding the Knott's dinosaur ride as a kid. I would never have remembered if I had just heard the name on it own. Weird. 🦕

izzsegu

Rip the great movie ride as well. It was one of my faves as a kid I so vividly remember freaking out at the alien scene haha

izzsegu

for me it was the alien scene where it pops out of the ceiling! I had not seen alien before so I had no clue what was going on and got soooo scared

Patrick

I would LOVE a video about Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride. The absolute horror and visceral terror i felt on that ride is literally unmatched. Not to mention, there’s barely any information on it on the internet. Spooky all around.

Oh I think I did the Tiki Room Under New Management. I'm not a amusement park afficionado but Idk, it was entertaining.

Is the Hollywood ride with the caves a Plato reference? Images projected on the wall and all that? Hollywood and Plato's Allegory of the Cave: the Flume Ride

Omg Maelstrom was my family’s favorite ride! We ended up riding it near the end of the night during the Epcot wine festival and everyone else on the ride was hammered and it made it so fun. We were so sad to learn they replaced it

alex

maelstrom really scared me as a kid but i also really loved it

Jane Leach

I have spent decades thinking the dinosaur going back in time ride was a weird dream I had as a kid

alex

i feel her on this so hard because i think the actual reason i like animatronics is that they're kind of scary

Scott C

Oh no I’m a coaster bro. I’m here. I love you

Scott C

You’d never get negative g’s on a lift hill tho.

Scott C

No but you’re correct we’re the worst. I can’t watch 80% of the YouTubers . Very cringe.

Georgina Ivey

Have you heard of wicked witches haunt in Thorpe Park?

Ethan Flynn

Can't believe you didn't include Journey Into Imagination

I want to see kitchen cabaret so bad now. I had no idea what it was until now. I’m obsessed.

Cutting Alice but not the Song of the South section from the original Mickey Mouse Revue video is certainly a choice.

Ingrid Russmann

I went on Maelstrom as a kid! The trolls TERRIFIED me. 😂

Robert Brandenburg

The video made me remember the Old Smurf’s Enchanted Voyage at Kings Island, and now I have the song stuck in my head.

Spliffy

Love your long videos, Jenny <3 Especially anything theme park related, so so good! Can't wait for the Efteling video, went there with the Dutch side of my family a couple of years ago and I can't wait to hear your thoughts!!!

I got stuck on the Animal Kingdom Dinosaurs ride in the pitch black dark as we could feel the vehicle beneath us lurching over and over to get back on the track and finally the ride restarted and BAM huge dinosaur roaring at us, which is the point in the ride where they take your picture. So yeah the picture turned out pretty funny, with just our terrified pale faces staring wide eyed into the face of this scary dinosaur. 10/10 would ride again. Something I would not ride again?? Freakin Mission Space. I hate it so much. I felt so sick after I rode it I couldn’t bear the thought of riding the Guardians of the Galaxy so my friend rode it without me. 0/10.

I fondly remember the submarine ride at Disney World. I would have rode it around 1973. I was very disappointed when they closed it. This brought back fond memories even though it was the California version. They were very similar!

CoderMom

My six year old was so terrified of the Dinosaurs ride he spent the whole ride with his face buried in my shirt. He rode it again at 13 and laughed at his younger self.

I rode the Hollywood ride at Phantasialand as a toddler while visiting family in Germany. I always had a vague memory of "that time we went to Germany, we went under a big spider, right?" I actually remembered it more as a cliffside rollercoaster, but given how small I was and the canyon set dressing, it makes sense, and I remember all the water too. I don't think I have ever actually seen a video of the ride until now. It's funny to me that of all the horrors in that ride, I only remember the spider. Maybe I just closed my eyes after that part? hahaha

I'm getting caught up on Jenny's videos now...and hearing her list all of these rides that are "mysterious" to her, that I myself rode as a kid, is a stark reminder that I'm almost 40 XD

This made me realise I would love to hear Jenny's take on the weirdness that was 'Titanic the Experience' at Fox Studios in Sydney in the late 90s/early 2000s. If she ever does learn of it and intuit from the footage/description of it that it would have absolutely terrified kids, I can confirm that nine year old me truly believed I was gonna die and we had to go home immediately afterwards because my siblings and I were like literally traumatised. I had nightmares for ages afterwards and my sister refused to go back to squad swimming.

(in the experience they separated ppl into two groups and half were first class and made it into the life boats, and my group were steerage and we ended up trapped in the boiler room and it filled with water and we all died. Like you died as part of the ride lol. From memory the water was also on fire and they had a lot of actors like screaming that we were gonna die, the whole room moved, the car from the movie rolls across the room and feels like it nearly hits you (in the cargo hold part), it really looked like the part in the movie where the guys in the boiler room get trapped by the watertight doors and die, I think a lot of the props were actually used in the movie and shipped to Australia for the ride. It was probably really fun and thrilling for teens and adults, because my memory is that they did a really good job making it look and feel real, like incredible attention to detail, lots of actors and impressive special effects, but omg was it insane to let little kids experience it. It must have been a nightmare for the ppl working on the ride/themed experience dealing with it. I think it was crazy expensive too, I remember dad being pissed that we all wanted to get the heck out of there the minute it started because it was too scary.)

Beauty Inside A Box

Someone might have already said this but I’m pretty sure I heard somewhere that the Snow White animatronic is now at the Snow White ride in Disneyland Paris

buckets

omg i love your content...

a.s.

DAWG i admit i thought this could be exaggerated but i looked it up and it's exactly as terrifying as u described, wild that there wasn't an age restriction when they talked abt how it would be intentionally very terrifying by being so realistic???

Gavin Rodgers

I get that exclusionary coaster-head vibe from Ryan on the Fya pod lol. Love the pod, especially Byron. But that’s bc he is more cool about it. He’s knowledgeable without having to flex it, much like Jenny.

Gavin Rodgers

Distinctly remember the tiki room under new management overlay… negatively lmfao. Me and my family were confused and so relieved that it was temporary 💀

Gavin Rodgers

I went on maelstrom many times and can say that it is very worthy of its spot on your list. 1,000 times more atmospheric and immersive, with cooler storylines and unique concepts. The trolls were terrifying and the drop hill where the boats peaked out of the cave was so much cooler. I could go on all day about maelstrom and the great movie ride. Major loses. Only nice addition for the frozen ride was the Nordic village queue. Should have just updated maelstroms queue and called it a day.

Johnathan Reale

Oh my god, Kongfrontation! I remember going when I was younger and thinking “Oh wow, look at how they made a fantasy world where the NYC MTA ran a tram”, only to learn that oh wow the Roosevelt Island tramway was real!!

KedaseDerragar

Man, it was great seeing Kingdom of the Dinosaurs again. Both my grandpas worked at Knott's when I was a little kid in the early-mid '90s, so my family was there all the time, and that was my number one ride by far. The reason it always stopped partway through is actually really sensible but also hilarious: it was an omnimover! When it first opened the entire track was end-to-end vehicles, and the recording of the scientist that got talked over is what would play when they had to stop the ride to assist passengers on and off. Those long "trains" you see later in its life are just segments left over after removing most of the cars (presumably to save on maintenance costs), but they never actually changed the ride system, so every single ride through would stop at exactly the same spot in the forest when they shut off the still-omnimover track to load the other train, hence the interrupting spiel about that one specific dinosaur.
