A lot of tangents in this one

I forgot to turn the air conditioning off before I recorded this one so the noise gate is a little wonky at times 😬 But I think it still sounds ok!! I couldn't render it again because I only had the files I already put on my laptop before the germany trip, but I can re-process the raw audio when I get back home if it's bothersome

Oskar Acosta

just wanna say as someone that has to pull an all-nighter right now, this is an absolute godsend 🙏

Jason Perez

What are your feelings about Grimace suddenly killing everyone?

Clementine Danger

Jenny DO NOT turn around but I think your toys are moving in for the kill

Veskie

Awesome timing for me. The video sounds totally fine, or even rad as heck...

Markus D

I'm kind of surprised that you feel so positively about most diet sodas but not root beer, 'cause I also hate diet root beer but that's because I generally dislike most diet sodas since they often use aspartame as a sweetener which I think has a gross, overwhelming taste.

Luis

Heck yes! My work schedule changed to early mornings and I'm trying to adjust by being up at the same time everyday. Now I have something to do thanks Jenny!

Jason Perez

I feel like you would be his accomplice. The Mrs.Lovett to his Sweeney Todd

Tall Jeff

Oh no Josh Groban is Grimace‽

Markus D

I finally feel validated as someone who dislikes Ed, Edd, and Eddy! I've grown up hearing people talk about it being super clever, but I always thought it was ugly and annoying so I never had any perception of that. HOWEVER, I'm Canadian and we had an insanely prevalent run of terrible gross-out cartoons in the early 2000s, so something like Yvon of the Yukon would probably be my worst cartoon choice.

Jason Perez

This is my head cannon from now on

Jack

The gamer lights are red, something’s up

Jason Perez

So the worst park I’ve been to is Six Flags Great America. They have the justice leage area and the dark ride, BUT the dark ride is in the opposite side of the park, separated from the Justice Leage area. It’s literally in some random corner of the park behind their western area surrounded by nothing. That park is so weird

Cicada

When I was younger my parents had me cut out sugar to treat my acne. So that I wouldn't feel left out, they made me hand out raisins on Halloween. I got called Raisin Girl by local children for years. I'll take saddest story ever for 400

Jesse Walker-McGraw

At the six flags New England park they have a sort of combo spinning ride/dark ride which is really weird. It has screens with Cyborg and I think they get taken over by an evil computer virus or something, but literally the entire time you're spinning on a flat ride, so you can't see or hear what's going on

Izzi C

I also hated the "one thing about me..." trend, partially because it was slow and boring, but also because 9/10 people couldn't even keep up with the original cadence. They could do like the first sentence on beat but then fell into monotonously rambling with disjointed pauses for at least 3 minutes. It didn't even follow the original bit at that point :(

Ted Koutz

There was a boxed Lamilly in my mom's doll collection (she came with the double denim outfit) and it's incredibly odd to see in person. Like if I didn't know the history behind it and someone told me it was part of an art exhibit where they were making a statement about how body image is conveyed through children's toys that would make more sense than a commercial product that was intended for girls to play with.

Jenny Nicholson

I'm kind of shocked it's still being produced at all anymore since there are different-bodied barbies and huge brands like Rainbow High that are curvier than Lammily is, which actually have cute clothes. There's something so defeatist about setting out to make a non-skinny doll and then when it's time to style her being like "so she's given up on looking good"

Markus D

I'm going to need someone to tell me about the MLP G4 toys that have weapons and angry expressions. I at least want to see how that was executed.

Markus D

I always take umbrage with people saying "Pixar movies are bad now" because Turning Red is a really recent one and that might be my favourite Pixar movie. I was never a huge Pixar fan (like some people LOVE/LOVED them as a company but I always thought their catalogue was a real mixed bag) so I don't have as much of this feeling of the company having a steep descent in quality, but I do see how a lot of the projects in recent years, with some exceptions, have at least lacked interesting concepts.

Kimberly

I'm only 15 minutes in, but this is a top-tier ramble.

Claudia

Dinosaur TV was creepy! They looked so awful--- and the one episode I remember was a take on that Solomon tale about cutting the baby in half, except I was too young to know the story so i had no idea what was happening-- and even worse, in the show they literally cut the baby in half, it was awful

Markus D

I've always disliked Disney's Alice in Wonderland, but I was also a huge fan of the book. I thought the movie made Alice a lot less competent and cheeky. I think Dinosaur is actually a pretty solid movie, but it almost feels... too adult for most Disney movies? Like the themes are really dark, there's a lot of peril, and it's all kind of "apocalyptic" until the end. I think Atlantis was a mess of a plot, but I have to give it credit that they made a lot of unique characters and I always appreciate that not-too-exaggerated level of steampunk. Chicken Little was legit bad and might be my least favourite Disney movie. I don't remember Home on the Range well. I like the villain song, but that's about all I can say with certainty.

Steven Clark

The worst pizza was the pizza at Hobo's Bar & Grill in Quakertown, PA. I ordered it on a first date once, and we ended up leaving our to-go box in the bushes outside. Jenny has no way of knowing about Hobo's Bar & Grill, though, so her answer makes sense. Also, this video showing up in my email reminded me to pay the rent, so I'm grateful for that.

Sqand

Dinosaurs is a prime example of that phenomenon where something is nominally a satire or critique but ends up just recreating what it's supposed to be satirizing, which is made 100% worse because it's a conscious decision. The baby in particular is, to me, the worst example of both the annoying baby character and the annoying catchphrase character.

Kav

It's crazy how big an impact art style can have on your enjoyment of any cartoon. Perfect example, I know JoJo's is super-interesting and would probably be right up my street but something about the art style just makes me bounce off every time I try it. It's not even like I think the art style is bad - it's just not to my taste.

Lambda34Delta

The talk about Arthur and the Minimoys gave me so many war flashbacks because I distinctly remember hating the book as a kid and for some reason I insisted on reading it and finishing even though I hated it deeply while I read it and I was just suffering and miserable every second. And then I watched the movie as a kid and I spent most of the time going "god, this is so much more tolerable and so much less obnoxious, I should have just seen this instead", it like weirdly redeemed it for me? I don't even remember what was so creepy about the movie and I'm pretty sure I watched the European version which I think either says something about my kid self or it just means that as bad as the movie is, the book was just so bad that it makes the movie look good in comparison? Maybe I should go back to it and jog my memory lol. I will say the main thing I remember feeling while reading the book is that it felt like... so twee and saccharine in a really awful condescending way. It was really the kind of kids media that makes you feel like you're being talked down to and spoken to in a baby voice. Which given that they were also written by Luc Besson himself might be the reason. But yeah that was an interesting trip down memory lane lol.

Jack

She’s right to say this.

Beau Audirsch

I like diet lemon-lime sodas, the bitterness of the artificial sweetener pairs well with the citric acid.

Luis

Huh I didn't hear the AC at all the audio is fine! Also I stood up and clapped at the Dinosaurs rant I HATED that show. I'm older so I remember when it was airing original episodes on TV and I despised the show so much I just wouldn't watch TV that night. Like not even other channels I'd just have my TV off completely and read a book or something! Hell truly is Dinosaurs 🤬

Beau Audirsch

Hard same. I was a little kid when Rugrats and Aahh!! Real Monsters were on Nickelodeon, and I couldn’t stand watching them. The squiggly line art style legitimately mildly grossed me out.

quaarkbeast

“Why are you picking on service workers? You could at least prank your own friends and then they can decide if they wanna remove you from their lives” lmfao yess 😂👏🏼

Trystan

There's a video on YT by coldcrashpictures called Saurian Cinema: Capitalism Killed the Dinosaurs (And We're Next) which talks about how Dinosaurs was basically an anti-capitalist socialist show that used puppets to sneak it past the more conservative network bosses. It was definitely never supposed to be for kids and addressed quite a few serious topics like global warming, capitalism, racism, sexism, gender identity, etc.

Adam Steeves

I don't have as much hate to the Dinosaur tv series, but I don't like it. I remember one specific episode that after I saw it, it bothered me for years and made me scared to fall asleep because of it. I think it was the Halloween episode where the teenager son turned into a werewolf? or maybe human/hairy ape.

Gideon Cripps

I can't believe you'd insult me personally like this - my mother was a diet root beer

Natalie

I don't watch a lot of brand new movies, and I like a lot of movies that aren't fantastic but are pretty good, especially if I grew up with them. The other day I watched Agent Cody Banks and couldn't believe how bad it was. There was really weird and gross sexualization of minors. The acting was bad. I remember not hating it as a kid but wow it does NOT hold up.

Katherine Evans

I am upset that Jenny thinks we dont know what Sally Corp is. Im here for theme park content!

Kav

You're in luck - I did indeed also hate Dinosaur. Mean-spirited media is rarely my preference to begin with and, while there are plenty of counterexamples to that, when the aesthetic and wider tone is (from a critical perspective), well-done to hammer home the mean-spiritedness, I'm completely out.

Steven Clark

What the Dinosaurs show reminds me of is the old Muppets segments on the first few episodes of Saturday Night Live, where they didn't let Jim Henson and his people write the skits, and the Saturday Night Live writers didn't WANT to write the skits, and nobody really had any idea what the skits were even supposed to be about, so it would just be these cool-looking puppets having boring conversations with no point and no jokes. With Dinosaurs, it was like they had this idea that wasn't necessarily bad to start with (a dark parody of family sitcoms, with sweet dinosaur costumes), but then they put it into production without actually thinking it through. It wasn't dark enough (or anywhere near smart enough) to work as dark comedy, so the "dark" moments just felt weird and out of place in what was basically a live-action Flintstones public service announcement, with "Very Special Episode of Blossom" messaging. Terrible show.

reagan

EEEK new ramble video on my birthday!! thank you Jenny

Tristan W

Now I want nothing more than to know what your least favorite fast food is now. 😭

Markus D

See, for me aspartame isn't BITTER, it's just kind of a gross, cloying sweetness that's too overpowering compared to the flavour of the soda and seems to stay in my mouth for hours after.

Markus D

Ah, I think JoJo looks pretty cool. When it comes to anime, basically anything with the really "generic anime style" turns me off. I know some people don't check out One Piece because of the art, but for some reason, even though I was an art snob as a kid, I still went with it.

Markus D

I hate that that makes it sound cool even though actually watching it feels intolerable for me.

AU

& The "Solo Mating Dance".

Brian Balster

how about.. Jenny's Least favorite My Little Pony? :)

Markus D

I feel like "she's given up on looking good" is maybe a bit unaccurate since she's supposed to be a kid and not a milennial suffering through depression,, but then the issue is that her clothes aren't fun because they're too realistically cheap and practical, so the kids would be basically dressing her in the same stuff they wear every day.

Brian Balster

i like the zero sugar Wild Cherry Pepsi.. I can just assume that the cloying sweetness is from the Wild Cherries. I'd prefer regular pepsi, but have to watch my a1c levels

Ted Koutz

I feel like Dinosaurs had the highest "very special episode" concentration of any sitcom partially because they were satirizing very special episodes where sitcom characters got hooked on drugs, started doing steroids, turned goth for an episode, etc.

Kav

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think the art style is really interesting, I admire it for doing something different, and I can totally see why people love it, particularly if they're burned out on that "generic shonen" look. I mean, Gurren Lagann is one of my favourites ever and, while its animation can be impressive in set pieces, I'm not about to claim it's got a "better" art style than JoJo's. It's purely a personal preference thing - to the extent that I can't even really explain what it is about it that doesn't do it for me. At least with Rugrats, it is immediately apparent why a lot of people wouldn't find it appealing (I was much the same there at the time).

Ingrid Russmann

I remember nothing of Dinosaurs, despite watching it regularly when I was...5? --Ish?...because I, too, was utterly traumatized. All I remember is a gag with a head in a fridge--and being too scared to tell my parents, but living in silent angst until I forgot the show and remember it again a decade later. ✊

Erin Nye

I felt the same way about the Ella Enchanted movie. I was the only one of my sisters who read the book, and they loved the movie so we watched it all the time.

Val Stanton

I loved Arthur and the Invisibles as a kid, I had the Nintendo DS game and everything, but I haven’t revisited it since then. This is the first I heard of the extended cut though and oh my god was I just dying laughing at Jenny’s name for it 😂

Aramis Calcutt

I love coffee but “coffee-flavoured” stuff is gross. It’s the flavour of the absolute worst stale instant coffee. And even worse than that.

Pontus Knast

They're mentioned and shown briefly in the Last Bronycon video!

Markus D

It's weird, like what The Simpsons ended up doing but if they made the wrong decision of leaning into the archetypes of "family sitcom" too hard.

Markus D

Edit: I'm confident that she's talking about the "Guardians of Harmony" series since it has some action figures and statue-type figures that fit the idea of "MLP with weapons and stuff".

Jordan Cannon

Youtubers always talk about background noises in their videos that I can never hear

Savannah

omg I've never met someone else that was into A*TEENS haha. I had the same experience - I thought they were just genius songwriters haha.

Meagan Holmes

I live really close to Sally Dark Rides in Jacksonville and did a tour of it about a year ago, and Jenny’s totally right that it’s a “tell me what your budget is” kind of place.

Katie

I'm so relieved to know someone else felt betrayed by Ella Enchanted. I LOVED that book and felt so ashamed after watching the movie.

Meagan Holmes

They’re also really heavy in the “shooter” style rides and showed off all the different types of “guns” they’ve made and it was kinda weird

Meagan Holmes

AND their joker animatronic shot me in the face with an air cannon, so that was kinda cool

S G Matthews

When you brought up Dinosaurs, I just thought “please, don’t mention the episode with the two creatures.” And then of course… I really do think about that all the time and it’s still upsetting to me. I think there was a denouement where the main dinosaur family finds the two children of the creatures, and I think there was a male and a female so it’s supposed to be uplifting like the species can continue, but… even past the decidedly gross implications, even as a kid I knew one pairing is not even for a species to continue. Definitely a disturbing moment for my childhood, too, and no, I don’t think it contributed to my being a vegetarian, either.

Brian Balster

i PROBABLY should have watched the whole post, b4 posting.. But THANX Jenny! for the MLP info

srahhh

Omg I was also an Ella Enchanted book bitch in a world full of movie praisers.

srahhh

First time I was given alcohol in high school it was tequila & diet root beer. Safe to say it's my least favorite soda too lol

Aramis Calcutt

So the Knott’s Berry Farm video is officially off the table?

Brian Balster

i'm trying to think, How that drink could possibly have been More Worse? If you added rat posion to it? Not sure that Would be worse.

Joy

I worked at Magic Mountain for like 2 months in between undergrad and grad school and I totally agree with you on how ugly and uncomfortable the park is, but also the rollercoasters will HURT you. Even the rides that are fun when they first open only take a few years before they start to get too rough

Ino

In defence of that Hall of Justice, it does look accurate, but it is still bland/boring by itself without more theming around it

Jem Unger Hicks

I love roller coasters so I enjoy going to magic mountain for the rides but I 100% agree that otherwise it is not a pleasant place to be lol. They rly need to hire a firm or something to redo their whole vibe and get some consistent theming bc it’s actually so terrible to walk around inbetween rides. I feel like knotts does a better job at making a park with kinda random themes more pleasant and interesting to be in. DO BETTER SIX FLAGS

Naomi M

'He looks like the paper mache heads the alcatraz convicts used to escape!' was not a reference I was expecting when talking about a doll but I can definitely see it!

Winona Honey

I never watched Dinosaurs as a kid but recently my friend made me watch it and I was really uncomfortable, I didn't like the way the puppets moved or the weird warts and wrinkles on their skin, it was like a live action Land Before Time. Just unpleasant to look at. I agree the set was weird too, but so were the sound effects! When the baby would cry I would cringe and try to turn away. Bad experience overall. Did not enjoy any part of it.

TalysAlankil

To me the real shock is finding out that the Arthur series was renamed Arthur and the Invisibles in america. Like I can't say the original title "Arthur and the Minimoys" was particularly good and the movies/books are generally not great, but it's weird to me that they felt the need to change the name. The second biggest shock was finding out while researching the title change that there's a spinoff that came out last year. It's a horror movie where a group of kids goes to the house where the other movies were shot. The wikipedia summary is wild and probably more interesting than the movie itself.

Lagomorphliker

Once I realized that root beer tastes like wintergreen gum I could never taste it the same way again

George Fletcher

I found Dinosaur to be completely unwatchable. I also despised Ed Edd and Eddy (but my kids liked it).

Kyle Williams

The only thing I want to change your mind on is the use of the word "mouthfeel". Natalie from Contrapoints has ruined that word for me!

Tall Jeff

I’ve run the numbers and you are correct about everything

Frita Gee

I’ve never seen a 3.5 pony before, it’s so funky it kinda stole my heart

Who Are These People

Every Eastern European I've met dislikes root beer. I think they associate the flavor with medicines or home remedies.

Magicalbunbun

Compys also eat a baby in the jurassic park book so you’re smart in not liking them.

Joy Wood

I feel like we still got your MLP hot takes. Yay! And I too remember the giant carrots in Six Flags. My sister and I running through them is a happy memory. :)

Sam Hetherington

I had the sandwich-shaped picture book with the bugs too! It was called Sam's Sandwich so naturally I was given it as a kid. There was also one shaped like a box of chocolates, a burger and a pizza

Magnus Smith

haha i was so obsessed with arthur + invisibles as a kid! couldnt say i *liked* it as it was bad and strange and kind of ugly, but i was fascinated by it and remember watching it a lot. i guess just trying to figure out why it was so bad and weird!

Diana.H.

The extremely expensive Star Wars Hotel souvenir precariously perched on top of a giant Deutsh mushroom in front of a horse desk covered in Furbies, Ponies and a tree with a face is pure Jenny Energy.

Rob Fitzsimmons

I went to Six Flags Discovery Bay once, when I was visiting family as a teenager. It was awful. Picture Magic Mountain, but then also you may wander past a big concrete tank with just one singular, clearly sensorilly deprived dolphin. I just sat there awhile and eventually it came up to me and floated next to the window, but for the most part it just completely ignored everyone and everything. Just completely devoid of curiosity.

Rice G.

i didnt hate dinosaurs per say, but i definitely found it unsettling and didn't like watching it as a kid.

Roni

I grew up with MLP G3, but I only have very vague memories of G3.5. I think I must have erased it from my mind, because I looked up the ponies and oh boy do they look deformed lol!!

Heather Hollands

I swear I remember that book with bugs under the ingredients. I think it was shaped like a pizza box and the different toppings had bugs and stuff under them. Oddly, I remember enjoying the concept of the book. I thought it was creative

Steph K

Somewhat of a coasterhead here, and you're right about Six Flags. It's not a pleasant experience. Even tho I like coasters, when I visited southern California, I ended up enjoying Disneyland way more than Magic Mountain because it's so much of a better experience overall. Honestly that experience made me start caring way more about theming. Coasters are fun but they don't make a good overall package.

lia

loved your commentary on six flags magic mountain! man i really wish those more coaster-heavy parks went harder on theming lol. there’s so much missed opportunity! things like characters, docking music, sound effects etc can really flesh out a ride and enhance the experience. at one of cedar point’s areas, frontiertown, they’ve got two coasters called maverick and steel vengeance that are fully incorporated into the lore of the land (explained here if anyone is interested! https://youtu.be/62dzOopXzCc). such an awesome use of backstory to make the two rides all the more memorable. thanks for another great video jenny. safe travels!

Shaun Cheah

At least in that case the suffering would end.

Ham

I recently caught up with some of the Disney animated films I'd never seen, and was shocked by two things: 1, Princess and the Frog is really really bad, just no story structure and no sense of where the songs should go or who should sing them; and 2, Emperor's New Groove is really really good even though I hate David Spade.

Ham

Stealing "book bitch" because that's me and any film of Wizard of Oz

Aimee W

I haven’t really started the video yet but I have to say your eyeshadow looks exactly like how I did mine for an entire year in middle school (because it was on the back of the “for brown eyes” eyeshadow palette I got for my birthday)

Aimee W

gold goes well with brown? groundbreaking

Markus D

That movie was also WRITTEN BY LUC BESSON. It's called "Arthur, malédiction". I only know about it because of a video about it by YouTuber FunkyFrogBait.

Markus D

I agree very much. I WISH Princess and the Frog was better, because there's a good idea in the premise, but it just... isn't very good or interesting, and hell, the SONGS aren't very good because instead of actual jazz or blues musicians they just got the whitebread Randy Newman to write them for some inexplicable reason. Emperor's New Groove is one of those movies that's really enjoyable for all ages. It has great comedic writing and physical gags as well as a lot of heart. It's also one of the only movies I can think of where "asshole main character" worked for me as a lot of other movies have the protagonists be too malicious or annoying to make their face-turn feel worth it.

Markus D

I also just want to say that Lamilly is an insane name for a doll and one that I've never heard before but is also doubly unappealing because it makes me think of "laminating".

srahhh

Jenny's explanation of what makes a truly "bad movie" is basically the same thing as the TikTok algorithm she was talking abt earlier, i.e. active dislike vs genuine disengagement

srahhh

Also SUPER hot take but I also felt that way about Howl's Moving Castle

Josie Nguyen

i’m so glad you feel the same way about lammily. not enough people realize that the first person to make you insecure about your body is likely going to be a family member, especially the sort of invasive judgemental parent or aunt that would get you a lammily doll when you wanted a barbie

Scott Carter

I've never seen Dinosaurs but I DO hate peanut butter. I've never in my life liked it and people always act like I have a 2nd head when i say I don't like it

Tama Hero

The way you feel about Dinosaur is the way I feel about Married with Children, although I think Married with Children was actually intentionally aiming for gross and creepy

viruviruviru

Honestly in the last ramble you stopped to turn off your AC and I literally hadn't heard it before you mentioned it and I also didn't hear it after.

Austin P. Smith

Jenny really said "Pride Month is over, time for Luca hate" LMAO

triggthediscovery

If they're going for realism with Lammily, they should make a "Lammily Dream Studio Apartment" which comes with a doll of her ex which she still lives with because she can't afford rent on her own.

run_away

This video is great, but it's also making me kind of sad. Student loan forgiveness being struck down means I'm dropping all of my subscription services, so I think I'm dropping Patreon as well. Not quite sure how that works since I've done yearly blocks for some of my memberships, but I'll be finding out shortly lol. I've had a ton of fun watching these monthly videos over the years(?) I've been subscribed. If my financial situation improves I'll be back : ) Thanks, Jenny : )

Jos A

As an early 2000s kid, I vaguely remember Dinosaurs but their designs were so hideous that I was never interested in watching it.

Ruth Sangree

As someone who also loved Ella Enchanted, the book I am happy to meet another movie hater. One of my most disappointing adaptation experiences.

Wes

magic mountain sounds slightly lamer than our six flags

Dani St-Onge

I literally thought Dinosaur was a nightmare I imagined as a child until I saw a video about the dark ending. It almost traumatized me as much as the Submarine Ride in Edmonton Mall.

Jenny Nicholson

Omg I watched a whole youtube video about that submarine ride! They took an underwater drone around the track to see what was still there (not very much)

Dani St-Onge

While I now greatly appreciate rides and what goes into making them, I am not sad to see it gone. I had so many nightmares about a squid eating my sub, and because it was the 90s/00s there was no way for me to see footage of it and know that it WAS real.

Wes

u gotta quit believing hollywood’s anti-monkey propaganda

run_away

Don't forget the "I Pay Half The Insurance So It's Kind of Also My Dream Car"

Nicola Callahan

It sounds like maybe the Starcruiser video will be coming soon after her Germany trip? Since she was talking about credit songs. Here’s hoping!

Nicola Callahan

I’m so sorry! I’ve been using Christmas or birthday or tax refund $ to pay for yearly subscriptions. I hope you’re able to return soon!

Sarah, the Creator

Done with the video now, and I think Jenny and I have pretty similar disgust triggers. I have always needed to get a clear look at everything I put in my mouth. I feel the lobster stuff very strongly as well. EDIT: And I find those TV dinos quite unpleasant as well! Relatable content.

Jaz Mei Luo

My Least Favorite Animal Sidekick is the goofy cartoon snake from the Ella Enchanted movie

William Wallace

I'll join you on the Dinosaur series hate train. The little bit I saw in the commercials were enough to convince me not to even bother.

Alex Andra

Oh no, I loved Cody Banks as a kid but mostly because I had a huge crush on Frankie Muniz. I’m going to save myself from re-watching it and discovering that it’s bad 😭

Jiminy’s Journal

Jenny is cancelled, now. 😢 The irony being that she followed it with a bunch of dinosaurs. Like, The Good Dinosaur is right there.

Alex Andra

You may have just massively improved my social media experience because when the Depp/heard trial was going on I was aggressively not interesting every single post that I saw because it was all too triggering, and it felt like my entire feed was consumed with that content. Now I will go forth with the knowledge that I have to aggressively swipe away to escape.

Amanda Moreira

trust me, la ronde manages to be the worst amusement park in the world

MJ

Jiminy’s Journal

I have seen exactly one episode if MwC. It ended on a transphobic joke.

Sparrowlucero

what's funny is it's not even a kids show, it's an adult sitcom that's just relatively pg like the simpsons

tofu nugget

Came in excited to watch new Jenny video, came out lowkey traumatized after searching about the dinosaur tv series, seeing the already horrifying animation, and listening to the gruesome description of what happened in the finale….. How is this a kid’s show…. 😭

BoPod Horsecast

Always a pleasure to find another person betrayed by the Ella Enchanted movie after adoring the book

COTF Creative

Speaking of credit songs, I would kill for like, a Patreon download of the Evermore one. It's SO GOOD and I walk around singong it all the time 😂

BestStressed

Can't see if anyone already posted this, but Diet Coke and Coke really are different sodas! Diet Coke is made from the New Coke recipe that they tried to introduce across their line. There was a huge outcry and they went back to the original recipe... except for Diet Coke.

Gnome Choomsky

Yeah... I'm not entirely sure which was first, but, yes, "diet coke" and "new coke" were based on the same recipe! And "coke zero" was based on the "classic coke" recipe!

Dan Gibbins

Now that she mentions it diet root beer DOES just taste like watered down root beer. That's what's been wrong with it this whole time. The worst movie I think I've ever seen fits basically all of Jenny's criteria. No compelling characters, practically no story, no themes, and the only scene I ever think about I think about in the same way I remember going to the dentist and needing two needles' worth of numbing agent because the first one didn't take. I think of it in horrified bewilderment over how a scene *that long* has *that little* actual content. Also to make things worse it stars Ronald Reagan and is very racist. It's called This Is The Army, it was the highest grossing film of 1943, I hate it terribly, don't watch it. I watched Dinosaurs a lot as a kid but not all the way through and never since, I think she might be right about this one.

Evan Chappelear

If I remember right, Coke decided to make the Diet Coke recipe completely from scratch because food science wasn't good enough yet to make something sugar-free that tasted like classic Coke, and Diet Coke ended up being so popular they decided to base New Coke off of it.

Matthew S. Dentice

I also rewatched all the songs from the Donkey Kong cartoon a few weeks ago. Glad to see I’m not the only person on the planet who thinks highly of them. Alnd as someone who also hated the Dinosaurs tv series, the video and comments have been very cathartic. I don’t know if I’ve ever agreed with Jenny on anything so much. I was nodding in agreement with every sentence of her critique. Truly a very disturbing show and it’s good to finally hear something other than endless praise for it.

Oh, that's cool! I didn't know it went in that order! Although it makes sense why Diet Coke ended up being the only one that kept the recipe. I live in fear that they will decide to screw with the Diet Coke recipe or condense it in with Coke Zero, but I think maybe it has enough loyal adherents that they know better.

Mr. Creosote

One of Jenny's nightmares is watching Dr. Zaius drinking a diet root beer at 6 Flags.

pk kakes

Jenny thank you so much for the dinosaur (tv sitcom) slander, I'm a huge puppet nerd and definitely agree people feel not only to like it, but defend it just because it's associated with Jim Henson when in reality it is one of the weakest Jim Henson projects. PLUS it's not even really a full "Henson" project, he just came up with the idea for it before he passed away. Full body muppets that use animatronics are some of my favorite types of puppets, but the dinosaur ones are just too damn ugly and uncanny.

GreenDTea

The little dino baby was a creature of nightmares. It looks like the mid-animorph transformation between a creepy baby and ET.

Eric MacMillan

Absolutely love how a lot of the categorize match the original Jenny awards. Can't believe its been 3 years since the first one

Cabbage

Ah! The HQG1C baby party ponies in the background!! My favorite set they've done so far for sure

Cabbage

Also incredibly funny that Lammily is coming up because I made a joke about her today in reference to the HILARIOUS Bass Pro Shops hunting-themed fashion doll that looks a lot like Lammily but still manages to have more creativity and love put into her than anything a hack like Lamm could ever imagine lol Funnily enough, the original Lammily doll was discontinued and they made a big deal about it being the FINAL RUN, BUY HER NOW!! A few years ago and I am like 99% sure that they never sold out and she is still in stock (or she was until very recently) lol. What a sad sad doll.

David A Behlman

Once you're on one of its rides it's pretty good, and there are quite a few great ones.

David A Behlman

I always hated characters being eaten by things whether, implied or graphic depictions, I just hate concept. Hearing your summary of parts of that book made my stomach turn. While on the subject of things we don't like I need to vent about The Witches. I hate that movie - not for the infamous transformation scene but for when the main evil witch steps on her fellow witch who's accidentally been turned into a mouse. Ok, I managed to type that. Just a sick and disturbing moment - sorry to bring it up. That movie can stop existing rn ty.

pk kakes

also wanted to take the chance to ramble more about why their designs don't work for me: the dinosaur costumes don't know what they want to be. full body muppets like the gorgs, especially junior and ma gorg from fraggle rock work for me because it's leaning into the cartooniness and colorfulness of the style of the show. The skeksis and the mystics/urRu puppets from the dark crystal also work for me because it is intentionally leaning into the creepiness and otherworldy aspect that is apart of the premise in the movie. when i look at the dinosaur costumes, it doesn't know if it wants to be cartoony or realistic looking so it's this weird creepy uncanny mesh in the middle. in my opinion the entire set of the show has this problem too. i can tell it kinda wants to be like the flintstones and have this wacky fun prehistoric world that functions like modern society with fun "caveman" version of modern appliances and technology. but it has this very dark, gritty, (and honestly ugly) color pallette and atmosphere that would clash against any of the "funness" this show tries to visually have. TLDR; cartoony + realistic = uncanny. and uncanny costume + uncanny aesthetic/set design = ugly looking show. and this isn't even touching upon the writing issues i also have with it 😭

Chase Cargal

I support content creators keeping their AC on. They shouldn't have to melt!

Dylan Clarke

I remember arthur and the invisibles being one of my favourite movies as a kid I even had the video game lmao I need to revisit it

pirdblant

Yeah there was something creepy about the son’s head fringe wiggling about and especially the gross little fleshy baby. It was like Don Bluth decided to go “live action”. I’d watch it but my stomach would be in knots the whole time. I have no idea why I endured some things as a child. 🤢

pk kakes

omg yes!!! the reason why the baby's head moves like that is because he's the only live hand puppet on the show. live hand and full body muppets can mesh super well (literally look at any other jim henson franchise) but it just looks so off and weird with the baby's freaky animatronic eyes mixed with how all the other dinos look + move. edit: another creepy fact about the baby is that it's one of the only surviving puppets that we know of from dinosaur. if you look up the pictures of what the heads used for it look like today you can see just how deteriorated and spooky they look.

April Feldman

AH I hated that Ella Enchanted movie so much!! I also loved the book so much as a kid, and I was so excited for the movie- and it actually came out right before my birthday. So for my birthday party I invited all my friends over and we had a fairy tale themed party, and then we all went in our costumes to go see the movie- and I hated it so much!! And none of my friends had even read the book, so they all really enjoyed the movie and were talking about how great it was, and I was just sitting there fuming. Also my dad loved the music and he ended up buying the soundtrack and would play it all the time. So I was unable to escape the reminder of the movie. Hearing you talk about the Ella Enchanted movie unlocked these visceral, suppressed memories, but I'm glad I wasn't the only one who loved the book and did NOT like the movie lol

ignacia maría

finally i feel like i’m not alone hating mamma mia. it really seems like everyone loves that movie

Austin F

omg was G3.5 the one with the weird cartoon tie-in with the baby horses where their mouths didn't move when they spoke? idk if you'll see this, but i'm wondering if you ever owned it. it's such a strange artifact of the 2000s to have with you physically

Austin F

i never got the hype around it either (but i'm also a guy - although i know some other gay guys do like it). amanda seyfried's cover of 'i have a dream' is amazing and iconic though i'll give them that

Austin F

also, if we go by the logic of your curse, one of those 'mysterious' parks is going to be exposed as being run by the mafia and disappear that night without a trace

Will Huynh

But Jenny did you know that Six Flags Discovery Kingdom started as a theme park in Redwood City called Marine World that had cool Dinosaur animatronics: https://youtu.be/ghHcul2sKW8.

Devin M

Cool and sunny is literally the best weather. Shorts and hoodie stans unite!

Austin F

my sister really loves princess and the frog but the only part of it i ever really enjoyed was tiana's "almost there" song :/ which is a shame because it feels like it has a lot of potential, both in the concept and some of the characters, and anika noni rose has such a lovely voice

Devin M

Okay sorry to comment twice in a row, but I know your worst pizza that you’ve never had. Rhode Island red strips. Bread and sauce, no cheese, room temperature. We have great pizza in RI (lots of Italians), but for some reason red strips are “our” pizza.

Austin F

i live near washington DC and the reason i could never move to california is because i couldn't live somewhere that doesn't have an 'actual' winter, if you know what i mean? i love cold and would feel deprived without a season where it gets below freezing every day. i hate heat so much (as you can imagine, i'm in hell right now x_x), so 'cold and overcast' is my type of weather

Kinetics Video

And start believing Japanese video games' glorious monkey-affirming truth

Jesús G

i hated the dinosaurs show so much. The puppets and vibe was so viscerally unpleasant, i hated even seeing the show. I can’t say for sure if i saw the same episode you described, but the feeling you described about the really dark and just mean tones? I completely remember that exact feeling. Ugh. The most “ugh” show ever. edit: It’s so wild, i don’t think i’ve ever seen anyone say anything negative about dinosaurs, it’s only ever brought up to point out how ahead of it’s time it was, or whatever. Glad to see so many people here hate that god damn eyesore of a show 😂

Minnie

I was also just telling my friend the other day how monkeys are uncanny valley scary and I don’t fuck with monkeys. they’re like a creepy little man.

Minnie

also I would do anything for you to make a video about Lamily so thank you for the tangent lol. I saw a quote where he was like “Barbie looks harsh and mean. women should be soft and kind.” 😬 say you’re intimidated by a baddie and go.

enya4eva

ELLA ENCHANTED the best girls’ book

Markus D

From the sounds of it, it WASN'T, it just was aired on kid's networks for some reason.

Asmodeus

As a child I totally had mixed feelings about the show. I can appreciate it now though, and I dont think its bad at all really.

Markus D

I haven't seen Luca, but it's insane to me that I've heard from people LOVE it and people who HATE it.

Jamie

I had the exact same experience with Ella Enchanted. I consider it a huge sign of growth that I've come to appreciate it as a separate entity. But in my heart of hearts I still bitterly resent it.

Jamie

I would love an Arthur and the Invisibles video!!!

David A Behlman

I feel like it’s just a lot of wasted potential. It’s not awful, and looks pretty good, but it’s ultimately underwhelming and didn’t have the epic emotions that Pixar is so often capable of.

run_away

Thanks friend : ) I'll definitely be back if I grab a raise or start doing gig work. Tbh this is one of the patreons I'll priority since she does these monthly videos.

PhilJoeO

I rewatched Dinosaurs for the first time since I was a kid last year and I agree with everything said. Earl particularly is so unlikeable, but he's always framed as the character we're supposed to relate to. Also agree, the neighbour Brontosaurus was the best character!

erin 🤸‍♂️

i don’t know about anyone else, but i cannot hear the air conditioner

Fred Hinojosa

That male Lammily doll looks like Conan O'Brien.

Mary O Keeffe

I would be so hyped about a potential Europapark video! I visited on a school trip when I was 16 and me and my freinds had great fun posing in different lands and taking photos like we were on this massive continential tour. We went at Halloween and they had a massive pumpkin spider display, as in a spider made of pumpkins. Would highly reccomend.

Georgie

my local theme park M&D’s in Scotland is definitely the worst theme park in the world 0/10 do not recommend

Mireille C

I dunno if there's a theme park worse than Elitch Gardens in Denver. It's downtown and hemmed in on all sides by the rest of the city so it feels tiny, tiny, tiny. The light rail stop is disgusting. I've been there once and all I did was take pictures of typos on their signs and have an undercooked personal pizza. They do have a Meow Wolf attraction, though... but I didn't see it.

Stephanie Carrin

Oh my god they had the maze with the giant carrot punching bags at Six Flags Over Georgia and it has been an almost primal memory for me- along with riding the Mindbender and deciding I never wanted to ride a roller coaster ever again

god’s favorite sacrificial lamb

omg, jenny, you’re literally that tweet that’s like “i was never into ed edd and eddy as a kid…even then i knew something decidedly unchic was afoot.”

Natalie

She's even mentioned it in her previous vids! That's how I knew what it was! I was like oh the icon, Sally Corp!

Samir Roy

DINOSAURS was the one TGIF show I never watched. I watched all the others they threw at us when ABC had us locked in the grip of the TGIF lineup. But I instinctively drew a line in the sand at this one, and never dared cross it.

Dahlia

I've never been more saddened to hear six flags magic mountain to be the worst park, but it's true. There truly is like zero theming, and the food there is all sooooo bad. I think if you're into thrill rides most are pretty good, but for a while they had some really bad ones (Viper, Green Lantern), but yeah with that being like the closest park to the home I grew up in, it hurts.

GabWoof

Omg I also live in Jax and never knew it was in the city. I need to see if they're still doing tours

mollying

one more vote for traumatized by Dinosaurs

Tzivia Kleinbart

Thank you for the Ella Enchanted rant! I see so much love for this movie online and it must be from people who watched it as kids without having read the book. I remember having the same experience as you in the theater, sitting there horrified at what they had done to one of my favorite books.

Michael Chui (Duiker)

Wait, people like that show? I've heard people reference it, but I've never seen anyone say it's good.

Markus D

I like the songs, but that's because they're just... good ABBA songs, but it always really threw me off from the get-go as to why the premise was associated with ABBA in the first place. Like, hell, why does it take place in Greece? They wouldn't at least make it Sweden or something to give a little connection?

Steve Ray

That's what comes from asking hobos to cook pizza for you. Have them stick to franks and beans.

Markus D

It definitely does have a lot of potential, but one of the biggest problems with it is that it feels disingenuous—Like it probably would've been a good movie if it was headed by Black American creators interested in telling a story that was culturally relevant to them, but as-is it might be superficially about a young Black woman in New Orleans, but the movie doesn't really have the heart and soul of an artistic vision that would best support and coalesce the themes and setting that it introduces.

Markus D

I feel like when people talk about old Cartoon Network it has a tendency to get brought up among the "good shows". I don't know if it's more nostalgia than anything, but I rarely hear people say explicitly bad things about it.

Ash D

giant porg has never looked so decisively at the camera in any other video, i think hes discovered that hes being filmed

Thomas Hartwell

I've always loved Dinosaurs, but man alive I would not ever consider it a kid's show and it's bonkers it was marketed that way. I think it's fairly intelligent and surprisingly progressive given its vintage, but it's also not at all something I'd want anyone younger than like 14 watching

Anna HJ

Your Ella Enchanted take makes me feel so seen. I read the book like 30 times as a kid and was SO UPSET by the movie. I actually recently went back and reread the book—genuinely still super enjoyable, holds up great

Monica McFadden

I was not expecting to learn about Alcatraz and paper mache heads, but I welcome this knowledge! The small G5 MLPs remind me of GI Joe (the 80s ones) or Star Wars. Being jointed and having molded hair, they have an action figure vibe. I skip a lot of them because, yeah, same characters over and over, but I saw a set with G3/G5 Minty (brushable), so that's on my wishlist. (There's also a cartoon episode with G1 Minty. Strong Minty rep.) I never watched the Dinosaurs sitcom because the character designs grossed me out, especially the dad and the baby. I just googled them to refresh my memory and they're worse than I remembered.

Ted Koutz

The Lammily denim outfit, minus the shorts and non-OSHA approved footwear, reminds me of these denim shop coats they'd sell at welding supply stores where the fit was less important than having something that keeps hot sparks off you and doesn't burn easily. Ironically if Bass Pro Shops made a welder doll they'd probably do an ok job judging by what they're doing now

Dundough Breadbox

Excellent take on The Dinosaurs show. I don't think I remember any episode as much as that one when the boss eats. I stopped watching the show around that time and only saw the final episode because it became a thing to watch finale episodes. Yes! Reeses cups have that gritty powder, but it works. That eating spiders book sounds beyond dreadful.

Meagan Holmes

It’s basically smack downtown. I think their website says tours are suspended due to Covid, but we still got one so I guess try calling anyway haha 🤷🏼‍♀️

Scoot

I feel exactly the same about peanut butter and I have never met anyone who agreed with me. Peanut is okay with chocolate but peanut butter flavoring is gross and peanut butter cookies are gross and once in a while a pbj sandwich is fine. And Reese's cups aren't really peanut butter. Preach.

Ted Koutz

Aside from the multi-layered white savior narrative this movie has going on the Minimoy princess character design is weird because she's like a sassy elf maiden and every other member of her species is like a Norfin troll or a troll from the Rankin Bass Hobbit movie wearing unsexy clothing, she's wearing skintight leather pants and a bustier made out of a leaf that shows off her midriff and she's framed in an uncomfortable, leering way. The part where there's the buff Masai warrior guys who kneel down before the protagonist and are like "only you can save us, 10 year old boy" feels like something from a 1940's adventure serial as well as the plot where his grandfather in an African explorer outfit saved them by teaching them about irrigation. How the black-coded Minimoys are portrayed is also pretty uncomfortable, too

Munchy Lunchco

I have a vivid childhood memory of trick or treating at a nearby house that belonged to a friend of my dad's. He invited us into his porch to wait while he grabbed something candy-adjacent for us (I don't think he got many trick or treaters, as his house was pretty out of the way, which further added to the ambiance of impending spookiness). From where I was standing in the porch, I could see into his living room. There was a very strange looking show playing on the TV that I had never seen before (which I found out years later was called Dinosaurs). The baby dino was there sitting in his high chair, his nearly toothless maw flapping, his eyes bugged out and glassy. To my child eyes he looked like a wad of chewed up bubblegum. It felt like something I wasn't allowed to be seeing. I felt like something was very wrong. Seeing that critter was the most disturbing thing that happened to me that halloween. The whole happenstance is seared into my memory.

Liz Jones

I hated the Dinosaurs show mostly because I hated the stupid baby character so so much.

Libby Williams

Sam's sandwich! My parents still have it, and the pizza version too. My kids love them both and always ask me to read them when we visit, even though half of the flaps are missing 😅

Henry

I always despised Dinosaurs. Not with the same incredible burning passion Jenny seems to have; but it just seemed like a shameless rip off of The Simpsons without being the slightest bit funny, clever or appealing on any level. There were a lot of shameless attempts to rip off The Simpsons, but most of the successful ones were at least funny in their own right (Family Guy, et al). And yeah, visually it had this sort of grimy quality which was also unpleasant. And oh god, that %$# baby

Henry

Yeah Married With Children was a profoundly unpleasant and nasty show, but it was going all out to be that. It had a self-awareness to it and if you could get on its level it was sort of admirable for that. Dinosaurs, otoh, was just shit

Henry

It was very clearly pitched as an antidote to all of these legions of insufferably bland and wholesome family sitcoms that were a plague at the time, and it worked quite well as that. That said I haven't watched it recently. I'm sure it has not aged well

Xofer

My mother loved Dinosaurs and especially the baby, she thought it was the greatest thing ever, which always made for an uncomfortable half hour if it came on while I was visiting. 🤦

Betsy

Has there ever been a more damning critique than "I think Boy Lammily looks like the Alcatraz prison dummy heads made out of paper mache and hair clippings from the prison barber shop"?

Jane Mahoney

Seconding you and everyone else RE: hating Dinosaurs; I remember being so grossed out by the whole look of the show as a kid and I can't comprehend people's nostalgia for it

Girafarig

i could listen to jenny talk about mlp all day 💕 I know almost nothing so I love learning about the previous generations

Jessica in LA

I had the same exact experience with the Ella Enchanted movie, lol. I used to listen to the audiobook all the time.

Alexandra Ewing

I already knew I was a fan of yours Jenny but your love for the A*Teens really put it over the top for me into pure fondness.

Rae Abigail

Omg yes I also had the book that was shaped as a sandwich with bugs in it! I thought of it as soon as you started describing the seven spiders book because it was my absolute least favorite book as a kid and I couldn't believe when you started describing it haha. It was called Sam's Sandwich or something like that and it was about this mean boy making a sandwich full of bugs to give to his sister and it's obvious in retrospect that I, a little girl who was terrified of bugs, was most definitely not the target demographic lol

Jim Hanson

I have spent years telling people why monkeys creep me out so much. A lot of people seem to get where you're coming from when you explain it to them - they're eerily too human and too clever. Keep spreading the good word, Jenny. Down with monkeys.

Joel Keene

I hated Dinosaurs when it was on, i think i was in middle school.... but it was redeemed in my mind somewhat after it was heavily featured in Some More News: The Movie, which is, incidentally, the best movie of the last 4 years. Maybe ever

Amelia McLean

The Dinosaurs show was and is horrifying to me; also, I would constantly listen to the audiobook of Ella Enchanted as a tweenager and was not pleased to see what the movie did with it; lastly, although I am a peanut butter consumer and fan of the PB Cups, I fully agree that the Reese’s “peanut butter” is some variant substance.

Luisa

My friend and I went to watch the Arthur original cut after this video and we were flabbergasted when the dad ran inside afraid of the African men

Maddy

jennys doll in the background made me think of this but my least favorite barbie movie is princess and the popstar i have such a vendetta against it and i hate what they did to "to be a princess." i have to admit that the song at the main climactic moment is really good tho

DaisyMaisy

I think her name is Lammily cos it's a portmanteau of the male creator's name lmao, the guy just has the absolute worst vibes.

Babs

The hatred/fear of monkeys comes from that one episode of Wild Thornberries. You know which one.

JD Rasco

Wow. She drinks a lot of soda.

Taylor Calloway

Butt ugly Martians was my Serendipity-I have been trying to find this show for years, I had already given up. I watched one episode when I was maybe 6, and fell in love with the Martians. I have been trying to remember what this show is since I was like 18, you just changed my whole night omfg. Thank you SO much.

Andrew Ward

The most interesting of that tik tok trend was the one where the guy was talking about how his aunt invited everyone in the family to her house for Thanksgiving before dying the morning of, and how they had to celebrate it with her in the house because they couldn't get the guys to pick her up because of the holiday lol

Linden Jacobsen

i can send you a link to watching the show if you want

Eksiski

Okay this isn't very interesting, but my first job was actually at Magic Mountain, and I worked there at the time that the Justice League dark ride went up. I think I was able to ride it before the park opened on the first day the ride was open, so that was cool. The park is super gross, and they treat their employees terribly. I still get random checks in the mail from various class action lawsuits that have been filed for their mistreatment of employees, so that's fun! I recently went to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA, which is about an hour from where I live now, and I was BLOWN AWAY that a rollercoaster park could actually be beautifully maintained, and pretty impressively themed throughout the entire park. They even have multiple dark coasters similar to Space Mountain, which is a favorite of mine so I loved them. Highly recommended, if you've never been!

Steve Ray

Because Greece is carefree and fun and full of optimism, unlike Scandinavia, where everything is bleak and doomed, as seen in * The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series * The Unit (the socio-medical dystopian novel, not the David Mamet TV show) * The Harry Hole detective stories (a/k/a The Snowman, et al.) * Let Me In / Let The Right One In * Ingmar Bergman's work * Lars von Trier's work

Steve Ray

I had no idea Luc Besson was the creator of so many traumatized-supergirl movies -- he practically owns the genre.

Lily

the assumption that i don’t know sally corp 🤨

zach spencer

Ha Thats funny. I would say Luca and Elemental were my favorite of the pixar or disney animated movies since what I would consider the last great one which was Coco.

Hanna Hays

Whenever people are impressed that I know a lot of ABBA songs idk if I should tell them that it’s because of the A-Teens 😂

Franki Lew and Kitschy Cats

Literally all these takes are based, from the awful intersexist barbie to the monkeys. It me.

Franki Lew and Kitschy Cats

I totally get hating Dinosaurs, especially when that was the most vivid episode you remember. I have an honest fear of non-muppet puppets, so much so that "my Dinosaurs"-equivelant trauma is so gutpunching I hate to even utter it's title, I'll just say it's an 80s fantasy thing that involves puppets but is not Jim Henson and I hate it so. I'm actually deeply afraid of things with faces, animatronics and costume characters from my childhood as law -but not stop motion movies which is odd because I reguarly watch claymation/stop motion stuff that would have kept me up for weeks if I saw it as a kid like it's nothing now...so maybe I'm not the best judge...oh well.

Sewing Savage

Ive seen both the American cut and the pervert cut of arthur, i dont know why. Theyre both so awful. The main thing i remeber about it is how dissonant the dub was from the lip flaps and also madonna was the voice of the love interest...??

Dan Black

6:15 - I'm glad you (Jenny) liked Dollywood. I wanted to go there, and now I want to go even more! 15:36 - Absolutely agree; I hate monkeys! (I, too, include other primates who aren't technically monkeys.) Chimps, especially, are vicious and horrible. So many species are also literally dirty poo-flingers. 29:48 - I probably agree on L3, because of the political stuff they tried to roll in. But I really like K-2SO, because he's the perfect combination of C-3PO's statistical and analytical intelligence and R2-D2's sass and social awareness. 34:45 - YES, I *HATE* prank videos. If you take them at face value, why would you treat your family and friends that way? But it's especially obvious they're fake when the friends/family still "fall" for it every time and never stop trusting the pranksters. If someone pranked me even once, I would be cautious and never fully trust them ever again.

Athena Vinson

i can sleep soundly knowing you hate bunch a crunch in your popcorn but i am also disturbed that you dont like monkeys :(

Miranda Kanowsky

Finally another person who hates monkeys and mamma mia!

ash

Oh my god I feel so seen when you talked about that Dinosaurs episode. That one made me cry and gave me existential nightmares as a small child. It made me nauseous and the way you describe the characters making your skin crawl is exactly how I feel! No one gets it when I try to explain lol.

Chrombus

Hockey is not that cold. If you have a long sleeve t-shirt you might regret not bringing something more. But it’s possible to get too hot and remove layers for a couple minutes.

Rebekah Fisher

Not trying to sound harsh as I haven't seen the movie, but...does having queer subtext make it better?

Sage

I know it wasn’t the point of this vid, but I was also meat-adverse/vegetarian as a young kid and continue to be vegetarian as an adult, and I really related to a lot of the takes in this video. I was the only vegetarian I knew as I was growing up so it is interesting to hear what experiences others in the same boat had.

Alexandria Ritz

Speaking of disliking wholesome pranks, I hate the "wholesome catcalling" where they're just saying funny/nice things. It's still talking to people on the street who didn't ask for it!

Sarah G

Jenny: I wasn’t aware of my body when I was a child so Barbie wasn’t an issue me: wow god i wish that was me :( Jenny, 2 seconds later: But plus size Barbie has merit because fat kids don’t get to not be aware of their bodies me: :)

ts_babyjane

always happy to hear jenny’s opinions on dollywood! thats my home park, i used to go all the time as a teenager.

Steve Ray

Or until it gets upset at you and dies.

Jack

she addresses this in her reasons to hate disney video, under reason number bad activism EDIT: July 2021 ramble from 15:50

David A Behlman

Prank videos as a trend is a menace. I remember just looking dumb-founded at people as they shared that "tell your kid you ate all their candy" video. I'm just like, it's funny to abuse trust?

Tracy Christenson

Jenny gets it! I have to admit, though, that it never really occurred to me to compare myself to Barbie because Barbie was plastic and had a hollow head, which is obvious when you accidentally pop one or two of them off. I can't remember exactly how it happened, but the heads are definitely hollow, and that's even more unrelatable. I also felt the same way about people who criticized me or teased me about my weight. They were unrelatable, and I figured they also had hollow, empty heads. I never actually popped off any of those to check, but I just figure.

Tracy Christenson

My brother absolutely hates monkeys for similar reasons! I don't mind them, but I'm not big on them, either. One time, we saw a monkey on tv who had been trained to make hot chocolate, and my brother said that he would never, ever consider drinking anything made by a monkey. Then, he said, "Also, the monkey cannot make chicken mole. Therefore, the monkey is useless." We still quote that sometimes.

Steve Ray

It's an all-star cast -- Robert DeNiro, David Bowie, Mia Farrow, among others.

Sam Cotter

One of my favorite things to do when watching the patron vids is to guess what video Jenny is working on now based on the props she has in the back.

Sentient Puffball

I went to six flags in new Jersey as a kid and i remember the looney toons stuff, mostly i remember these tubes that shot out air that hovered balls over them

Dan Black

It was a bad way to end a kid's show, especially a comedy. Reminds me of the ending for HIMYM, since it didn't fit the feel (or the character arcs) of the rest of the series. I personally didn't mind it as much for Dinosaurs, just because I was already an adult at the time. And the way it went over the top on the cause-and-effect thing was a bit humorous and fit the way they had done other things in the series; it was just darker than usual. Anyway, it still left me saying, "Huh? That's how they end the series? Weird."

Aimee W

popping back in to say I thought of another anti-awards. Taking awards back from people that didn’t deserve them

Eric

I was thinking anti-Jenny awards would be things the anti-Jenny would think are great.

Steve Ray

@Ted: Even though the movie is nominally set in mid-20th-Century Connecticut, the story is a mash-up of pre-20th-Centrury France, not some generically-critiqueable West.

Christine Govas-Robert

Jenny: If there's one book I'd burn, it's this children's book about spiders in food. Me: So not Mein Kempf?

ash

Oh I meant the episode with the critters being eaten alive, it’s the only episode I remember. I didn’t know about the series ending until I was an adult and it’s so bleak that I kinda can’t take it seriously. I also respect them a bit for ending it that way cause it’s so out of pocket and they had to know it would be polarizing.

Adam Jaspering

I grew up near Six Flags St Louis, and your discussion of the poorly themed rides and badly integrated IP is spot on.

Jaz Mei Luo

My reasons for liking Luca didn't really have anything to do with the queer subtext (this coming from a queer person). I just thought it was a cute movie.

Lily Smith

the Six Flags near me growing up had a Bugs Bunny kids' play house/palace thing, where my friend and i caught strep

Lily Smith

hershey park theming is pretty surreal, i remember a ride with romeo & juliet overtones about a peanut butter boy and chocolate girl. they were humans, not globs, and heirs to their respective Candy Conglomerates. weirdly high-concept, especially because (iirc) those characters were one-offs for the ride and not, like, beloved characters at the park. enjoyed it though

simrell

ella enchanted hate is so funny to me, one of my college film professors was the director for the movie haha

Mel T.

I never watched Dinosaurs. It reminded me of Roseanne, and I was already super uninterested in Roseanne. A dinosaur version of it sounded even less interesting to me.

boobookeys

1. Boy Lammily looks like that Tumblr post where someone skinned an Elvis animatronic and wore his face lmao

boobookeys

2. Hockey games are not that cold, maybe like 50-55 degrees in the stadium? And if you wear a jersey those things are toasty. I've never seen anyone wearing mittens at an indoor ice rink though. It's pretty fun :)

C. D. Peck

"shrimp are kind of grosser because their pose makes it look like they're curled up and afraid" I fuckin lost it

Selina

boy Lammily kinda reminds me of E.T.....

Mina

I feel validated on the Magic Mountain. Growing up in Southern California MM always felt like a busted bootleg Disneyland. They practically gave away tickets in the 90's I'd always see on soda cans you could like trade empty soda cans or something for Magic Mountain tickets.

Jon Irons

maybe it's the flannel on the dad, but i felt exactly the same way

B Hair

Wow, I looked up Luc Besson and that story is hella crazy

emchovy

so glad I see all my hockey fans talking about how hockey isn't cold. Jenny I promise it can capture the cosy vibe you're dreaming of. also it's fun

LKB

I grew up in SoCal going to Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm. I didn’t go to Magic Mountain until I was a teenager they had the summer concert series in the 80s because I was completely uninterested in attending an amusement park that wasn’t themed & decorated.

Virginia Fleming

Yes yes yes, Dinosaurs was very depressing to me as a child and I hated the baby. Thank you for this.

Marina Vollin

I'm late and also someone probably already said this but if anyone wants to experience Arthur and the Invisibles without having to watch the whole thing Toddintheshadows has a great bit on it as part of his Cinemadonna series. It's in the cameos video.

Ian Menard

I'm shocked that Escape from Tomorrow wasn't your least favorite movie

Cynethryth

I didn't *hate* Dinosaurs as a kid, but the older I get, the more bewildered I am that it ever existed. What a strange show. I only really remember the baby and his one joke, but I was so young, I didn't really get it. But everyone thought the joke was hilarious.

Kerri Anderson

I never watched Dinosaur, but I remember seeing pictures from it and feeling a sense of forboding, which apparently is justified as it sounds like the worst thing ever.

August

I really cracked up when you claimed Sondheim is easier to sing than the pop music in Mama Mia. Respectfully disagree, let’s say 😂

Ross Well

The second Jenny mentioned Dinosaur, the only episode I could remember from it was the one where he eats the little creatures. I was going to comment about how disgusting it was watching their little tails being slurped into his gross dinosaur mouth, then she mentioned that exact episode. I'm glad I wasn't the only one traumatised by it.

Zach Varnum

I emphatically agree that monkeys suck as animals lol

Wiggly Wormy

ok, but honestly the experience of loving the book Ella Enchanted to the point where you convince your family to watch the movie, only to be embarrassed and disappointed is something I will never get over as a child, and I FEEL bad, bc now everyone talks abt how great that movie is, but I can never wipe away the pain of watching it that first time

Kaivalya Hariharan

i feel like an Arthur and the invisibles video might be fun

Luke Beall

I watched Arthur and the Minimoys because of this video and I think I may never forgive you

Lily Smith

i saw Arthur and the Invisibles when it came out and remember liking it but i was also 6 years old. great memories of playing it at recess with friends who had not seen the film (messing w pinecones, hanging upside down on the monkey bars so our hair looked like the movie)

reno

Don't remember my feelings about the show but I have a vivid memory of receiving 2 dinosaurs actions figures and being sorely crushed

Kelly Porter

Thanks for the great ramble, Atlantis slander and all. I feel like the Dinosaurs show was not intended for children. I don’t recall the fluffy creatures ep (maybe repressed, lol) but I do remember the one where the daughter was handed a death sentence for her round-earth theory, and declared that she wanted to be executed via throwing her off the edge of the flat earth. She was proved right when they walked around the entire globe and ended up back where they started. But uh, yeah, the concept of executing a child for having independent thought isn’t great kids’ TV.

Kim

Lammily is such an awful name for a doll, too.

Xylia Stargazer

Never heard of Lammily before now and now desperately trying to find an archived interview of all the derisive things the creator said about Barbie

Reed

Hearing Jenny think for a second as she tries to think of what boy Lammily reminds her of before going: "—When the convicts escaped Alcatraz prison—" is quite possibly the funniest sharp left turn I've ever heard a sentence take. I've never been so bewildered, confused, and laughed so hard at once.

Paige Vermeulen

my least favorite MLP line is G4 simply because if I tell an unassuming citizen that I collect MLP, they immediately assume I'm talking about Friendship Is Magic. and I resent that

Hollis

I for one felt so vindicated by your dislike of six flags magic mountain it’s so miserable and all my co workers always wanted to go cause cool coasters. Also if you ever wanna play a horrible god awful game there’s a full relatively higher budget Arthur and the invisibles video game and it’s so so horrible but maybe one of the funniest games I’ve ever seen.

George Hodulik

Not me having diet root beer as my favorite soda :(

Sabrie Colbert

I literally cannot deal with monkeys I say it all the time. If I lived in a climate with monkeys all willy-nilly I would simply pass away

Katrina Gluch

like, 2-3 years ago I matched on tinder with the lammily dolls guy (i had no idea what they were at this point) and he told me all about how great his dolls are like 4 times and then I unmatched him LMAO but thank you for unlocking that memory, I had completely forgotten about him until noe

Anemone Plenary

Ella Enchanted the book was so dark, it was legit traumatizing. I honestly wish the book was a little more kid friendly. The idea that a simple mistake like eating your soup wrong could KILL YOUR MOTHER or that cute fairy tale creatures could be reduced thoughtlessly to MEAT and also the whole idea of being an adolescent girl for whom the idea of consent is literally IMPOSSIBLE… just no. That book is well written and smart but it is practically the Hunger Games in terms of the maturity of the ideas presented, but the fairy tale setting makes it somehow even more upsetting.

Anemone Plenary

For the record, I also hated the series Dinosaur as a kid just from when it would randomly come on and the dialogue seemed mean and boring and the design was indeed gross as if it was shot with the same camera as Texas Chainsaw Massacre. People said I would “get it” when I got older but I’m glad they were wrong.

reinier

I came to North America AFTER shows like Dinosaur and Rougrats were all the rage, and seeing it without nostalgia for it, they just look ugly

Aly

YES TO MONKEYS BEING THE WORST! They also seem to be in diapers a lot in movies and tv for some reason?? Which is then new levels of terrible because its a mix of them being too human, and also that nauseating "funny" baby character that is in fact, not funny. Not a coincidence that apes were like the mascots of the NFT/Crypto scence.

Mariel

I absolutely hated the dinosaur tv show. I remember being assaulted by the ads during all of the other shows, too. The plaid shirt the dad wore. The in diapers way they walked.

Ashe Trash

I feel like I'm incapable of disliking monkeys due in whole to watching Zoboomafoo constantly as a kid.

joseph merz

i wish u liked monkeys :( good video tho

joseph merz

all these comments abt monkey hate is making my soul ache 😭😭 primates are my special interest and they make me very happy,, i understand monkey fears are common though. still bumming me out a little 😞

Starlit Rain

I had this with Eragon, and well, my mom too because I knew the book because she read it. It was so awful I pretend I never watched the movie

Starlit Rain

Im from germany and i find the concept of a theme park for a brand pretty surreal in general XD

Nadia Wheeler

Just catching up here: THANK YOU. Thank you for bashing the Ella Enchanted movie. I still get so mad thinking about how it destroyed the book. I had a very similar experience taking my family to it. That movie deserves all the anti-awards.

Lilarva

French person here, I LOVED Arthur et les Minimoys, it has a lot of problems (including the director) but why people hate it ???!!! Why ???

Cecile

i would commit various crimes to see a book accurate ella enchanted adaptation (though i know it would never compare to how i imagine it in my head)

Cecile

the audiobook and its musical interludes are ingrained in my mind!! i still love it so much

LS

(Children of Time is a sci-fi novel featuring spiders)

Kavi Montanaro

My friend raved about The Ella Enchanted book, I had forgotten that conversation, I should read that pronto. I had also forgotten that Dinosaurs was a Henson production. It's so far off the classiness of, say, The Storyteller, or most anything they were doing in that era, I can't really group them together in my mind.

John Patrick

My late mother forbid us from watching Dinosaurs for a litany of vague reasons that can be boiled down to "that show has bad vibes." And that's not mere anti-dinosaur bias, because we were very much a Land Before Time household. So I too am glad the Dinosaurs are all dead as hell. May their fossils rot in their Cretaceous era graves *spits on the ground*

John Patrick

I just YouTubed the scene in question and I am afraid it might actually be a very good scene ethically speaking and trauma may have been the intended result

Kevin

Nope. Hated Dinosaur as well. It didn’t traumatize me but I do remember that baby being one of the first times that I felt that someone who didn’t understand me was trying way too hard to market something directly to me.

Caroline

In defense of coning: at my school anyway kids would order ice cream and then when it was being handed to them they would grab it by the ice cream and then just walk off with a fistful of soft-serve.

Maddy

I HATED Dinosaurs! My father ordered us the series on Netflix, because we were huge Muppets and Labyrinth fans. I remember he was so excited when it showed up in the Mail. But I was too young for it at the time, and I remember thinking the characters were super disturbing, and the plot was bizarre and equally disturbing. There was an episode that established once a dinosaur reached a certain age, they were ceremoniously sacrificed to the Tar Pits in a weird form of ritualistic puppet dinosaur murder. I still think about it.

Lindsay

That's so wild to me. Also, the fact that he named the doll after himself, get such strong Pygmalion vibes off the who thing. And the cherry on top that the name sounds a bit like the word "lame"

Jordan

I hated Dinosaurs SO MUCH. Scary. Mean. Crass. Dirty. That baby was the worst. I find adults doing children’s voices could really be wonderful, but the guy that did the voice of that baby was annoying and terrifying at the same time. I’m was so glad you hear you feel that way because I’ve always felt alone as well!!! I know I’m late to the party on this, but I am a new Patreon member!

Libby

The diapers are a big part of why I hate them like grow tf up and use the toilet. The monkey on friends was named MARCEL. You mean to tell me Marcel can’t be potty trained? That monkey has a grown man’s name

Libby

I had such a low tolerance for gross out stuff as a kid that most things on the Cartoon Network were a no go but I hated edd Ed and eddy SO MUCH. I never understood why people liked it and I hated when the boys in my class would do impressions of the characters with their dumb stupid voices. I can still hear kids in my fourth grade class saying buttered toast the way one of them did. Revolting.

Loretta Pontillo

I also hated Dinosaurs, the sitcom. I'm maybe 5-10 years older than you, so I was at the age where I had to babysit for children who inexplicably did like the show. I always found it off putting and unfunny. (I'm an OG patreon but just missed this video somehow)

Ryan D.

The skin crawling you describe about Dinosaurs is so on point. Here is my attempt at a description: It's like your skin is coated in some sadistic, freshly refrigerated, honey-jelly combo. After which you're placed into the hot car from Titanic, just after Jack and Rose left. Finally, you are stamped and rotated between the velvet seats and the humid glass over and over until you beg for mercy.

Bobby Bingus

I watched so much dinosaurs during quarantine that seeing real actors with human flesh felt incorrect

Lauren Woodring

I feel very validated that someone else hates the "take something important to you and carelessly throw it around for fun and comedy" trope. My loathing didn't spread to monkeys, but that trope always felt mean spirited and anxiety inducing.

Kav

(Although I'd say it's unlikely) I'd love to know if Jenny ever watched Mamma Mia 2. Mammia Mia is a film I watch once or twice and was kind of fond of in spite of myself. I'm also not a huge fan of jukebox musicals with songs I'm familiar with, while I'm a man and don't want to speak authoritatively to her other criticisms, I can certainly see where she's coming from, and the cinematography, editing and even sometimes choreography ranged from not great to non-existent. Oh, and a lot of the characters couldn't really sing. I love ABBA, though, so, like I say, I remember it vaguely fondly despite all its flaws. Mamma Mia 2 is, by a mile, the silliest film on my list of favourites of all time. The jukebox element was helped by the fact that I didn't know at least half the tracks because they had to dig much deeper into the back catalogue, Lily James was a hurricane of charisma and, like, if ever a film didn't need to try AT ALL on a technical level to turn a profit, it was Mamma Mia 2... but they tried so hard. There's ambitiously shot scenes, the editing is bordering on perfect in some of the musical numbers. It makes me cry... twice... every time (and there have been a lot of times - I probably watched it six or seven times during lockdown). It's a little self-aware in a way the original wasn't. So, I mean, Jenny's never going to read this but if you went into Mamma Mia as an ABBA fan and were disappointed, it's at least worth a go. There's a staggering amount of earnestness to what almost anyone would expect to be a shameless cash grab.

Kate Hannah

Dinosaurs was great Jenny the baby was top tier

Teijo

dinosaurs was a terrible show

Melanie

When I was a kid I was scared of asparagus because there were these evil plants in Zelda 2 that vaguely looked like asparagus. I refused to eat that cursed vegetable for years because of a video game design choice. Jenny saying she doesn’t like asparagus makes child-me feel seen.

Katie

Dinosaurs was so creepy! And did have weirdly dark sets which I've never heard anyone mention. I remember my mom also thought it was creepy so we never really had it on, but the little that I saw definitely made me feel uneasy. I was also incredibly disappointed by the Ella Enchanted movie (I unfairly had a grudge against Anne Hathaway for years because she was always in the movies that didn't live up to my book-reader standards), and more recently thought that Luca was surprisingly boring (and had lazy animation) given all the praise I'd heard for it, so I felt very seen by this video!

demonsita

Glad I never watched Dinosaurs, always just gave me creepy vibes and I absolutely despise Alice in Wonderland, as a child it really unsettled me just how mean and creepy everyone was to this girl that was just lost. In high school we had to watch Alice in Wonderland (for geometry class??) and it was still just as unsettling. Just such an infuriating movie, I still get so uncomfortable with the little baby clams getting eaten by a creepy man fish? Idk something along those lines. BUT i love atlantis and also dinosaur the movie

roger

They sell hot chocolate at hockey games, it is kinda cozy. Except that it feels like a Roman gladiatorial game with hulking dudes in armor slamming into each other at high speeds and the slapshots crashing into the boards

Skylar Pilot

YES, Jenny! The Dinosaurs sit-com scared me so much as a child. I ran away whenever it was on screen. Dinosaurs plagued my nightmares. Lately my girlfriend has been re-watching the whole series, and I have had to very firmly state that I will NOT watch it with her. You summed it up so perfectly-- nothing about that family of dinosaurs is trustworthy, and they've always made me feel such a deep sense of unease.

air_infector

i wonder if jenny has seen that live-action sequel to the Arthur trilogy made by the same guy where it's about a french guy who is a mega fan of the arthur movies and he and his friends go to a house that was a filming location of the movies or something because they know he loves it so much. and then they start getting murdered danganronpa-style. and it's starting Luc Besson's own daughter and apparently she can't act and it absolutely bombed at the box office. FunkyFrogBait on youtube has a short video on the movie!!

Rigmarole

I know exactly what children's book you're talking about with the gross bugs inside the sandwich - I had the same one and it was like a core-memory. Made me very untrusting of foods like that

felldragons

I can’t believe someone else knows Seven Spiders Spinning, I’d half convinced myself I hallucinated it. If I remember correctly, I think the spiders fell in love with the girls??? They unthawed from ice (?) and the girls were the first things they saw. Which made it even MORE upsetting as the spiders were brutally murdered one by one. They just wanted to be loved…

Melanie Unwin

Jenny Nicholson likes Dollywood... whew!

Hazel Davis

Your recollection of Mama Mia sounds like a fever dream. I love it. My ultra horrible secret is that I don't like Jim Henson's stuff outside the Muppet Show. It scared me as a kid and gives me the heebies as an adult. I can admit it's cultural importance, but the terror of seeing the Dark Crystal on the big screen as a kid has never really left me. Makes me feel like I've watched a Kubrick film, just... heebie central.

Abigail

I laughed so hard when you said boy Lamily looks like the Alcatraz prison break dummies.

Elaina

The way she knew IMMEDIATELY too. Like an absolute genius level of humor

Jillian Glasgow

I also recall being disturbed by dinosaur, I think maybe an episode where they thought a character was dead and either buried him or had him in a closed casket and then it turned out they were just asleep. Became a new fear for me

Kevin William Walker

Everyone thought I was a monster but cutting my rootbeer with milk was great for the mouthfeel and flavouring - like a diet root beer float

Kevin William Walker

Oh shit I'm all about tootsie rolls - and then she further dissed paydays, which are one of my favourite things about visiting the US

Adam Is Easily Startled

I was OBSESSED with that book as a kid and read it more times than I could count. I thought it was so creepy and weird. And tbh, as an adult I still find the premise creepy and weird, lol.

Darius

my family only watched chicken little once when i was a kid and all i remember is a chicken, aliens and everyone i was with agreeing it was the worst movie we’ve ever seen

LKB

And it’s such an accurate description.

LKB

Sea bugs BLECCH

LKB

I was in my early 20s when Dinosaur the series came out in ‘91 and I also hated it. I thought it was repulsively ugly and unforgivably stupid. I didn’t watch enough of it to notice the meanness, or that horrible plot that would have made me gasp in shock as an adult (and I was already a vegetarian then too.)

LKB

No no the pizza is FOR hobos, because it’s so bad everyone leaves it in the bushes and the hobos eat it for free.

LKB

I always liked the Disney version for being psychedelically colorful and silly, I could not stand any other version including the books. I grew up in the 1970s with the 1933 B&W version of Alice being broadcast on syndicated TV with remarkable regularity. It was a Big Deal Star Studded Movie when it was released but by my childhood, the costumes and effects had aged so badly that I found it repulsively, skin crawlingly creepy but I couldn’t stop watching it whenever it came on because I was too into weird creepy stuff lmao. It’s inadvertently creepier than the Jan Švankmajer stop motion with taxidermy, bones, and antique dolls version. Here’s the 1933 trailer! https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4nlcn6

Markus D

Something about the Disney Alice in Wonderland just doesn't hit right with me, like it's not weird enough and Alice isn't clever enough. It has that whitewashed mainstream American feel to it that I don't like. There's a 1999 TV movie version of Alice in Wonderland that I remember enjoying, though I have no idea if it holds up.

Tuesday Sellers

I would never have guessed that 1) someone else read Seven Spiders Spinning or 2) that it was written by the same author as Wicked??

Tuesday Sellers

I feel like Jenny in general is always the person that remembers that strange obscure thing you experienced in as a child, whether it be a strange direct to video children's short, a book, or anything else

Robert Romero Jr

I know Jenny drinks sodas but I pictured her as an only drinking water with lemon or lemonade type girl. Love that root beer is one of her faves though. Yes finally someone agrees with me that ed, edd, and eddy was the worst for the same reasons i have. Since you mention it we still getting that knott’s video?

St

I like your thinking behind barbie's proportions being due to doll clothes but I'm pretty sure that's not entirely it. Barbie is based off a barely post-nazi german sex doll/gag gift for men called Lilli. It was described as "a pornographic caricature." Idk but it seems relevant to why Barbie looks the way it does. Also Dinosaurs had the most cursed vibe of any show I've ever seen! I was creeped out by anything puppet related for so long because of that show lol.

PurrCruiserDelta

I feel like all of the people who hated Dinosaurs and didn't watch it were the wise/lucky ones. I was a child when it was coming out and didn't love it, but also didn't hate it enough not to watch it when it was the only thing on. I saw the finale when it came out, and it ruined me. You mention the show, and in my mind's eye, I'm seeing child-me bawling while this formerly ridiculous family freezes to death in a group hug.

Mayra Lutteral

Hearing the title "Arthur and the Minimoys" just transported me back to my childhood where we had that damn thing on DVD. I had completely forgotten about it oh my god. Its so ugly

Cece

Ed, Edd, and Eddy was horrible. Thank you! The stupid plank of wood upsets me still to this day.

Brando

You talking about the Dinosaurs episode where the boss eats the mammals unlocked a memory for me in which I too was traumatized that I had successfully repressed. So that's fun.

John Buisman

The not liking cold and sunny offended me so much I felt I needed to comment.

Hannah Liller

I'm actually so shocked you don't like dinosaurs lol, me and all my friends love it *also you may have been too young to realize, but throughout the show it included a lot of more leftist beliefs so it's not that surprising that they would end the show with a 'call to action' about climate change

notgerardway

omg i resonate so much with the lobster/crab/shrimp thing, i feel so so sad when i see those lil friends getting eaten, it enrages me even more when people see like, live PETS like my partners crayfish and shrimp that they raise, and make stupid jokes about eating them. it makes me want to start commenting that kind of shit about peoples dogs or cats until they realize how fucking rude it is and stfu ._. like even in a country where people might eat dogs or cats i can imagine it is still rude to joke about eating one that is kept as a pet

Spliffy

I also don't like monkeys! Especially chimpanzees omg those horrifyingly long arms and that thing they train the "animal actor" ones to do where they stretch their lips open and bear their teeth (I think it's supposed to look like a smile but it is truly unsettling). I don't mention it ever because when I say I don't like monkeys people look at me like I'm a monster (how could you not like these lovable little scamps?) but when I see someone holding hands with a chimp on TV all I can think about is how that animal is strong enough to rip their arm off.

Alejandro De Anda

Couldnt disagree more about Luca. I do agree about modern disney/pixar, but Luca was the exception. It was simple done correctly. It was beautiful and impactful in its simplicity. Kinda shocked that Jenny of all people doesnt get it lol

Wild Wesley

I ALSO hate peanut butter! People find it really weird so I just tell them I’m allergic, which technically I am, but back in the day when they did that test where they prick your back, it came back negative. But peanut butter makes me physically ill. And I used to think it was psychosomatic (which maybe part of it is), but I had something that someone made that had peanut butter in it where the taste was obscured enough that I didn’t notice and I still got sick. But everything about peanut butter makes me nauseous at the very least and violently ill at the worst. Taste, texture, smell, gross.

Lexie Lou

"Why are you pranking service workers that are like, working at McDonald's of all places? They're already NOT having a good night." I replayed this a few times for peace of mind even though it's been eight years since I worked at McDonald's.

Brian Weidemann

Today I learned that Jenny would refer to me as a “coasterhead” (derogatory) 😞

em

okay the dinosaurs and chicken little slander hurt my soul just a bit

Knox

Just recently discovered root beer with creamer, and it's so good for the same reason

Chloe

Late to the game but I totally agree with Ella Enchanted! It was one of my favorite books as a kid, I borrowed it from the library over and over. I think the movie was one of the first times I was really disappointed in a book adaptation. The other was A Wrinkle in Time (the 2003 movie adaptation, I haven't seen the most recent one still).

shamaamamamamaah

Six Flags magic mountain sounds suspiciously like the rides at Movie World aus (Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Joker rides, the Batwing drop). Even the Tweety cage ride.

Danielle Schatten

Ok, especially regarding the recent discourse, I'm suuuuper baffled by that whole Mean Girls thing, because hearing Jenny describe her rationale for her dislike of Payday bars, all primates in zoos, and Ed, Edd, and Eddy (three things I LOVE) in ways I totally did not understand but in which she went into great detail has made me want to UP my subscription tier because it's hilarious and amazing content that feels like a differing perspective that I'm struggling to comprehend in a fun way. Why would someone throw a fit about someone you like disagreeing over something so minor??? This isn't exactly politics lol

Danielle Schatten

In fairness the world was almost saved from its current decline into fascism by a chimp in 1951 when a rogue animal actor on the set of "Bedtime for Bonzo" attempted to strangle the lead human actor to death, a man whose performance in the film would be overshadowed by his later career as US President Ronald Reagan. So, who's to say if violent chimps on film sets are REALLY bad or not? /s

Danielle Schatten

yeah, I do in fact enjoy eating seafood but I kinda feel weird about eating it in public and making a spectacle of consuming it in places where we don't make spectacles of consuming other forms of meat. like, it's def a cultural thing sometimes, but there isn't really much of an advantage to keeping relatable traits on seafood most times when they're being prepared, and it's especially shitty to do so in front of vegetarians/vegans for no reason. other meats are heavily abstracted; why are these ones so anthropomorphized?

Danielle Schatten

Great, I have another new phrase that isn't going to leave my vocabulary... and I also really want chicken mole

notgerardway

i think some people take disagreement as an attack- even where it doesnt make sense lol

Spliffy

Lol can we get some chimps to Washington asap please

Hannah Liechty

I have that exact picture of me in one of those 6 flags carrot cars. We only went once, we were more of a cedar pointe family but that carrot car was very prominent in my memory

🪰

you might be allergic to palm oil or some other common additive in peanut butter, just fyi--it might not be peanuts specifically.

Wild Wesley

I don’t remember if that was one of the things they tested me for. I’ll have to follow up. Thanks!

sean

Just imagining a Lamily commercial that would air on Disney Channel. *upbeat music* wow! Lamily got cellulite! Cool! Little girl: Lamily, do you want to drink kombucha and play soccer? Lamily: sorry guys, I'm on my period Kids: wow!

sean

WAIT is this accidentally about the TikTok where Chappell Roan raps about breaking her neck

Rey D

So late but I LOATHED that fucking Dinosaur show! So mean! So stupid! Such a waste of cool sculpted puppets!!!!! Thank you for exposing it for the mean punching down trash it is and was.

Nina Røste

For what it's worth, pretty much nobody eats peanut butter outside of North America, so you're definitely not alone. I'm from Norway, and I only tried it once, but it was kind of off-putting, in my opinion, very sticky and weird texture.

Mary Dedrick

Jenny, I’m sure you already know this but all of your opinions in this video are 100% accurate (with some small exceptions)! Ella Enchanted IS one of the worst movies of all time, Mamma Mia is not great, peanut butter is overrated, and I never watched Dinosaurs because I found the puppets to be so disgusting-looking. Tbh I can’t remember what else you talked about but just know that I watched the whole video like “she’s right!”

Pete Rowen

Ok, super late to the party but yeah absolutely, Dinosaurs was the worst. It gets compared to the Simpsons a lot but I feel like its spiritual twin was actually Roseanne: dumb writers trying to be "edgy" but thinking that was equivalent to pointless cruelty. Henson creature designs were always out there, but they're usually redeemed by the poignant story. In this case, I feel like the ugliness on screen was just reinforced by the ugliness of the characters. Sorry, you said most of this, but it's hard to find someone who remembers the show enough to care about hating it.

Andria Henry, Author

Late to the party but I also HATED that Dinosaurs show. I wanted to smack that annoying baby so much.

Silky

This comment is a year old but I feel the need to add some context. First of all, "barely post-nazi" is a weird way to describe Germany in 1959, as if any doll created there must be inherently suspicious. But also, Lilli wasn't a sex doll. She was a doll of a comic character from a tabloid magazine who was kind of a sex symbol of the time. But she wasn't a sex toy, she was just a fashion doll. And she just looked like a 50s cartoon design of a fashionable young woman. And then Ruth Handler was inspired by her in her design of a similar doll, Barbie. She just designed her like that because it made for a good doll. I think a lot of American sources are incredibly misinformed about this because they can't access primary sources for context and people love a salacious "did you know this secret backstory" twist, but it's an absolute overexaggeration.

a little crow

This is so not anything to do with the video but PLEASE what is that blue book/dvd/something in the bottom right corner of the video?? I've been staring at the blurry title the entire time trying to read it and I feel like my brain is broken. It doesn't even matter but I've been staring at it so long I'm going insane

Shay Olin Parker

Wait, you didn't like The Book of Henry? I agree that it's kind of insane, but I find it to be a beautiful subversion of the "sick kid" movie. I actually adore the film, and I want to watch it again now

Kelly

I hate Ed, Edd, and Eddy so much and what was worse was my brother loved it so I’d have to sit through the ugly animation and hear their annoying voices, and all of the characters were genuinely so unlikable that the stupid ugly wood plank became my favorite sheerly because it didn’t talk. Also a monkey tried to choke my mom once in Mexico so that’s a valid opinion.

I love this so much! 😂😂 I absolutely agree about monkeys. All my life, I’ve always had a visceral response to seeing them, even though I’d always loved science and the study of creatures. Same thing with Dinosaurs the show! Although I happen to like that show, due to nostalgia, it is very grotesque. And always hated the baby. I always had a visceral response to it. (Also have this reaction to Ren & Stimpy and Beavis & Butthead).

i was thinking this too! the justice league shooting ride

Also late to the party but I also disliked Dinosaurs. Not as much as you because I never actually watched it. I think I was afraid of it or grossed out, specially because of the baby. I thought it was disgusting. And I also hatee this trope in children's programming of a character suffering for comedic effect. I would have been traumatized by that scene also.

Omg, from the description, I believe my six flags (great adventure) in New Jersey has almost the exact same justice league section and dark ride as magic mountain. It’s a barren concrete lot with a vaguely themed cyborg ride, and a hall of justice that feels like a cheap shell with barely functioning animatronics. It was nice to see them use a space of the park that had previously been shut down for a decade, but it was sad to see what they managed to do with it. We used to have an epic looney toons section with an indoor play zone (foam balls, canons, jungle gym etc) but they lost the rights to that lol, and it’s now a jersey devil/pine barrens theme. Which I oddly appreciated for the bespoke aspect of it.

I'm so with you on the thing about people saying they want to eat your pet shrimp. :( I used to have pet rats and the amount of people who casually talked about wanting to kill them or how gross they were made me so angry. I don't understand the kind of person who can see an obviously loved and cherished pet and make a joke about wanting to kill it. It's so messed up

i‘m German and I was OBSESSED with Arthur as a kid. I even listened to the audiobook religiously. I don‘t know what that says about me. Maybe it‘s a European thing? and yes i agree it‘s weirdly horny
