It blows my mind that Asianometry is doing this cool stuff that I've spent my entire life learning how to do, but I'm homeless in Silicon Valley, CA, because one person said something bad about me when I was in grad school. It's going to be better, because my first PhD advisor moved back from New Zealand because he's dying of Alzheimer's. Jim was a great guy, but he left us about six months ago.

One more thing... I worked at Intel Research Labs in 2001 for an amazing research engineer. His name is Konrad Lai.

Hey Jon, Since you talked about optical fiber before, could you consider talking about the economics of world wide networking? Like for instance, when somebody downloads a file from a server in japan from the UK: who pays for all the intermediary traffic etc. I mean I guess it comes to do trans-national agreements but I reckon there is quite a bit of in there to talk about. Also if I understand correctly some companies have near oligopoly on actualy installing those submarine cables and rent out capacity. Also comparing the difference between these submarine optical cables vs the ones in co-packaged optics may be interesting.
