Presidential candidates raised more than $1.6 billion in the 2024 election cycle, but if you think flooding politics with money is bad then you don’t understand FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Thanks to this Supreme Court decision, that pesky problem of an individual donor not being able to give more than $117,000 to political campaigns because of stupid campaign finance laws has now been solved.

Thank you, wonderful subscribers! We do it all for you! <3

Chris Tam

desdinova

Nooooo! The bit!!!

Nicole Luciano

Was Rhi doing a Zoolander impression here? 😆

Michelle Corey

I appreciate the Eric Adams tease but the people need to know when you're dedicating an entire episode to that clown Peter. I'm glad you all finally had the time to do this one, it is super informative. Thank you all for your service ✌🏻🫶🏼

Happy McCutcheon v. FEC Day to all who celebrate! 🥳🥳🥳

Hi Michelle! Have you heard about Peter’s second podcast with journalist Michael Hobbes, called If Books Could Kill? They have a few episodes on Eric Adams already both on the main feed and Patreon in case you want to hear any right away! :)

Michelle Corey

Absolutely! I'm a patron for that podcast too. Love it! That's why I had mentioned it lol because I know Peter has an on-going obsession with Eric Adams 😅

Reminds me of how Bill Clinton apparently wanted to impose salary caps for CEOs! Like are we even in the same reality? Thing is, as Robert Reich tells it, he was talked into only putting a cap on base salary and not on equity, which is a major part of how we got to this place of extreme wealth disparity.

Let's see. Individual can give unlimited $$ to candidate. It's not corruption bc it's not "quid pro quo" Musk bought trump the presidency, and now is allowed to run the government. How is this not corruption?

Peg Conlon

I NEEDED the last 4:00 of this podcast so much! Thank you Michael for your ending. It’s a clip to f-ing wake up to every morning and move forward with anything the daily news cycle may bring.

James Talley

RIP the bit, but excellent eulogy!

Disappointing that there wasn't a mention of the Maine ballot measure that passed last year. It asked "Do you want to set a $5,000 limit for giving to political action committees that spend money independently to support or defeat candidates for office?", and is intended to draw lawsuits and work its way up to the Supreme Court

Just got a Jamaal bowman text saying he’s back….by starting a PAC. That this is what he AND Cori bush both did after their losses is a great illustration of how bad this has gotten

Awesome episode. I've been telling people that if this isn't changed back, nothing else matters. But, then I was thinking, isn't it all over, anyway? Say we get a liberal Supreme Court in 20 years. Can't they say, "we need to address the Super Major Issue about Citizens United" and then roll it back. Won't the next conservative Court say, "we need to address the Ultra Super Major Issue of Citizens United ", then re-roll it back. And so on. Isn't this what's going to happen. Now that the hymen of norms has been shredded, isn't it just obvious that this is just a stupid game and we all lose?

Janusz Ostrycharz

"in thrall to billionaire donors" Is that the explanation for Rubio's 99-0 confirmation?

Seth Hicks

Got you with that Matt Damon/Kimmel joke and you finally did it. Shame is only dead in the executive branch. And the judicial branch. And over half of Congress. And in most state governments. And oh God.

No episode this week? :(
