THE PHILOSOPHY OF BERNARD (Patreon)
Content
I post this with some reservation.
"You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time."
It's a great saying, for sure. And never more true. For me, I like big men. I'm 6'2 (1.88 m), 220 lbs. So that means I like even bigger men than me. But that's just my preference. Always has been, always will be.
Some smaller guys like bigger top guys to be dominant. Some, in contrast, like their bigger men to be submissive. There are even smaller, more feminine men who prefer even smaller. It is a rainbow of preferences. Not one person can attempt to claim rights to a preference without experiencing pushback of some sort.
In The Laqueus Amulet, you will come to find all sorts of couplings. This was done intentionally. A bit of something for everyone. Well, as much as the story can allow.
LIAM AND WILLEM
Big + Small
You would think that Liam needs to protect Willem, which is partly true. In a pinch, Willem can hold his own. He is not vulnerable. We have seen him stand his ground against Liam himself.
HOLTON + FINTAN
Big + Bigger
Holton is a caretaker. Fintan is dependent. Although Fintan is smaller in comparison, he is submissive to his love. But it's made clear they both dislike being separated.
A T + B K and + = coming soon NO SPOILER
Very Big + Very Small & Small + HUGE!
You will find a couple where the bigger man is not a top. Rather, the smaller one is the driver. And another in reverse.
BLANK + BLANK = Also coming soon NO SPOILER
Another couple, being both bigger men, are versatile.
ARMOND + EASTON - SPOILER ALERT!
Lastly, I will point out two who sleep around without needing a relationship whatsoever. Content with an open and free relationship. Despite them not thinking they are in one together. Nothing can stop Easton from sharing his manhood with whoever he wishes.
Remember Queer as Folk? Very popular gay show. Well, I hated it. I hated it with a passion that burned deep within my soul! For me, there was not one single solitary character that was in any way likable. Not one I could see being my friend. And no way in hell could I see any as a boyfriend! A bunch of lying, cheating, manipulative assholes is what they all were.
Now, I know all too well that some loved that show. You may have a good reason. But my reasons are my own.
How many of you have seen The Lost Language of Cranes? It's a slow burn. It's a story of a father and his gay son. When his son comes out to his father, his father breaks down, crying. But not for reasons you might think. Watch it for yourself.
The difference between the two shows is like night and day. No, the father isn't a pretty boy with a perfect body, nor is his son. Which makes it all the more real and relatable. His son doesn't act bitchy, superior, or entitled. It has a composed soundtrack that isn't constantly bumping four on the floor!
Anyway, I think I may have gone off course. This rant, if you want to call it that, was sparked last night. Apparently, I had a rage quitter who messaged me with disdain for not having enough fuck scenes. And that Bernard shouldn't be fucking a twink.
Bernard, like so many other characters, past and present, is based on actual people I know. Bernard's personality is characterized by a combination of sweetness, shyness, compassion, curiosity, and humility. He is also strong, protective, courageous, loyal to a fault, and deadly if need be.
There must be good reason Bernard is drawn to this young man. Maybe he likes to be cared for, since he is always looking out for others. And this might be the first time someone showed interest and care for him. Perhaps something in his past reminds him of this young man. Or maybe, he's just open to whoever welcomes him in.
I know this is a lot to read, but I have just one more point to make. I promise.
I used to worry quite a bit about the number of Patreons I have. Worry even more about the ones I lose. I'm a creative person who, admittedly, cares about why people cancel. Although I turned these notices off, the count remains. An ever-steady reminder of where I stand. If I'm being honest, I like having the number of followers I currently have. It's small enough to actually form a bit of friendship. Though the majority of you, in the back row, are just quietly content with whatever you enjoy without a need for interaction, I get that.
I need to work on myself and stop needing EVERYONE'S approval. I know that is a goal that is impossible to reach.
With that, I thank you for your time and for allowing me to vent a bit. It's helpful.
