Sure, he is an evil, rotten, dirty scoundrel. It's also true that he has no lips to kiss and dangerous fangs. And it's also true that he has a weapon I'm sure you couldn't handle. But he does have a very long tongue. An 18" (45.72cm), you can do what you will with that bit of information.
LAQUEUS
laque·us / ˈlākwēəs
Laqueus is a Latin noun meaning a noose, snare, trap, or binding rope. Historically, it refers to a snare for capturing animals or a cord used for strangulation, especially in Roman executions, and it serves as the etymological root for "lace" and "lasso". ~Wiktionary
The Laqueus in his true form outside his host is monstrous in size. He snares a host by temptation or circumstance. Once snared, he thrives and lives off the torment of his host, often causing a desire so strong that it becomes torturous. In the King's case, it is love and the desire to be reunited with his Prince. The Laqueus will do all he can in his power to keep them separated, but tease him by sailing close enough to King's Castle as if dangling a carrot in front of a mule. The King is made to cry out for his love, but no answer follows.
The question is, what happens when that answer is heard? Will it just make things worse for the King? Fear and pain keep the Laqueus strong and allow him to even trap others into serving him, whether they volunteer or not.
The Laqueus exists in a worldly realm as well as the realm of the void. A dark place where he is free to do whatever he pleases to a captured soul.
