I wasn't sure whether I wanted to share this story, but I thought, why not. I received a cancellation this week with a note (they shall remain anonymous) that he felt it was far too long between sex scenes. That he was put off early on because a character used the word "Fortnite", since no one uses that word anymore. Wondered if English was my first language. He wasn't the first to point this out to me, which I find... perplexing.

Who would think this story is set in modern day?

I've tried to be clear with everyone that this is not a fuck fest, which has a story. It is a story that has occasional sex. As far as Fortnite is concerned, that comment rendered every other criticism to be outright null and void.

The Laqueus Amulet is a gay story that has sex, yes. It moves slower than fuck comics because the story comes first. Supplementing the lack thereof with Pin-Ups and short stories. One must do some sexy stuff, I mean, I'm a man, and I'm gay.

If you are here just for the sex, are you not happier when it does happen? There's nothing wrong with that viewpoint, in my opinion.

Bernard and Cole, for example, are based on a real-life couple. Loosely based on looks, but the difference is clear. "Bernard", in real life, is big, hairy, muscular, and a bit of a belly, while his husband of 15 years is hairless, thin, and, dare I say, even a bit pretty for a guy. How they met is in the story, sort of... which reflects how they met in real life. Bernard played on a gay rugby team, and Cole is a physical therapist. Nature took it from there.

I don't have a large audience. I struggle to retain 80 dedicated followers at any point. Which isn't horrible when you think there are at least that many who are actually reading my work and investing in both the story and characters.

When I set out to do this story, I wanted to have an eclectic assortment of couples. Big with small, beast and men, big men with effeminate men, beast and beast, two big men together, two who want to have their options open.

You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can please all the people all the time.

That saying often comes to mind. And although I didn't create this story and its characters to please most, I did so for inclusionary purposes, and based my characters on actual friends and acquaintances, sometimes even including their likeness. There are three in this story (four now, I should say, I think you know who you are) based on their likeness. I always ask for permission first.

Anyway, I digress...

I am a creative. I love painting, drawing, 3d art, and making music. It's what I've been doing professionally for over 30 years. Won Cleo's in advertising, worked with SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment America), and given lectures on art and design. There is one thing that links all creatives: difficulty when receiving criticism. It's difficult NOT to take it personally. I am only referring to personal projects.

I want you all to know how much I appreciate you! I'm not just saying it for the sake of saying it. I really do. I even made a few friends from this, which makes up for so much more than anything else. I can't tell you how excited I get when I receive a personal message, or even a comment on a post. It's like fuel that keeps me going. And questions about the story or characters are like an orgasm!

Sorry, got a bit chatty, haven't I?

I really appreciate you too!

Love this comic, I stayed for the story.

The best things in life have substance. Sex makes the approach but writing/graphic art makes it is what makes us stay.

Alexander Scott Bullitt

I love the story and the illustrations. The sex, when it happens, develops out of the story, which makes it special. You do you. It's your vision, not theirs.

O-KAY ... Oh my god, where do I start?! First of all, YOU-ARE-DOING-AWESOME-JOB-HOLY-COW-MORE-PLEASE! Then, about people being happy or unhappy about whatever project, as you said, you can't please everyone... I am myself a NSFW creator and even if I'm UTTERLY bad at trying to steer my creation toward appreciation of the masculinity in general... Most of people just see one things: Smut. As soon you have a character a bit sexy, showing some private life scene, kissing, hugging, being naked or further into more bedroom stories... As soon you do that, most of people brain goes off and immediately put "SsSssSseEeEeeXxxX" sticker on the artist's face. That, only that, nothing else, ever, not possible... Story? Deepness? Plot?! PFSH! NO waaaaaaaaay a NSFW artist will ever do that, right?! -___-" You set up the story as a dark fantasy world vibe from my point of view. The style, the matters, the few scenes actions... Yeah okay of course, creatures are relatively naked in this world, they don't seems to have the same relation to covering themselves as our reality... Fuck yeah that's great since it's a FICTION >:( ... Jesus... :/ I like those fictionnal world that have different rules, culture, vibe, approach of certain topic. I don't care if they are realistic or not, it's not the purupose of being a fiction! If it was supposed to be realistic... It would be boring, no creature, no orcs, no bulls, no anthro, just bland humans stuck on their stupid phones too busy being worried about how they will guess the next trend that will last 52 seconds on the socials... You have a unic style, mixing 3d poses and 2D skills to give out your style, and you manage to make the size difference just neat to my personal opinion. The characters aren't weird anthros like I saw too much time, of people not even trying to THINK about how anatomy works... (not judging but seeing too many minotors with 2-3 tibias instead of just one...) I don't know how you manage to keep it consistent, but the colorimetry of your work is even! x___x Something I will probably never understand how to do with my current tool and knowledge. Addition to that, you make flashback clear and loud just with VISUALS. Plot wise now, I'm still catching up when I can, and so far I have no complain. Your story take time, and if there is any god above, may them bless you for being part of the slow pace persons. Sure, I do like nsfw scenes! Sure, I do love a good looking characters showing off... But nothing is better than loving those characters by knowing them, their story, their taste, their dislikes, their believes and much more. Being attached to a character convey WAY MUCH MORE attraction when it come to the intimate moment, the joyfull one... Or the sad one. :/ Killing characters is something that most of the artists don't dare going toward. It's hard to do that. Not because of the matter of death, but because... giving it a reason, or making it come up with a reason, or at least, that it's not vain or "string pulled"... It's hard. I do have a huge favoritism for grey characters that are not really bad, but not really good, making discutables choice, for though reasons and situation that lead them there... Give them then a redemption arc, and if well made... a final sacrifice. Ugh, just writing this give me goose bumps! I-Just-Love-This. ...I'm sad for what happen to the characters there, but it just what it is, doesn't it? A dangerous world, with an important quest that seems to have a larger scale matter... Those story would be boring to never have serious situation, and sometime, some loss... Just this previous page here, and in fact, even this one... my current feelings are like > "PleaseBeAllSafePleaseBeAllSafePleaseBeAllSafePleaseBeAllSafePleaseBeAllSafePleaseBeAllSafePleaseBeAllSafe" ...See, I can be quite chatty too, and I'm sure there are few other quiet watcher that think mostly the same way around here. If I have to end this feedback by talking about your current audience level, I would first say congrats for having quite of a few persons engaged on this, and then keep showing how good your work will be. I wish I could do more, but look like my own audience is terrified to interract with me lately... Censorship's shadow is all over us, and they have a public "sfw" visibility that they don't want to stain with my kind of content. I will not backtrack, I will not give up, I will not let anyone tells me what I should belive, what I should like, what I should do when it come to MY creations. So just keep going, your story is interesting, 200+ pages so far that's INSANE ... Not counting the extra your throw sometime there and there... Thank for your work <3 !

I use fortnight regularly...

Well said, Thom. Sex is a bonus. I'm in it for the story, the characters, the art, and the creator. Because I like your work. The Occultation series is on my bookshelf in my living room, not squirrelled away like most book in the attic. If you were ever to put Lacqueus to print, it would live in the same shelf.

Rodan

I really enjoy the work you do on the comic and the characters you create. The fact that you spend more time setting them up is what makes the sex more enjoyable.
