A little over a week ago, I asked about a field of these plants... Listen, we're gonna need to talk about safety more. These are nettles! Those will sting! 

I learned a lot from this quick read on nettles by Petra LeBaron-Botts, including that nettles have been used as a textile material for thousands of years! The comments are also full of fascinating facts. Nettles are a good reminder of how much I don't notice, how much I don't know, and how much I can still learn about the outdoors. 

Salal is a waxy-leafed native shrub that is fascinating in its own right. Next time I see some, I'll get some good photos to share.
