the pacific northwest had awesome snow levels in the 2020-2021 season. this photo was after the first real storm last fall in the Cascades- check out those snow covered shelf mushrooms!
Not so in California.
California's snowpack was 59% of it's average on April 1st this year, lining it up for a long, hot, dry summer. Fire season has already kicked off in the Bay Area and outside San Diego, and it's not likely to let up this summer.
If you live kinda sorta close to any forested or brushy areas, make sure you've packed an emergency kit. Know what you need to pack up in the event you have to evacuate. Talk with your friends, family, and neighbors about evacuation plans, and have phone numbers of people who live near you.
Check the weather forecast, fire incident map, and wildfire risk for any wilderness area you're headed to, be safe with your fire sources, and follow the rules. You aren't the exception to a burn ban when one's in effect, and for fucks sake, don't set off fireworks in wooded areas.
