more of my lingerie shoot from Valentine's Day, wearing Hopeless Lingerie, shot on my iPhone.
somehow, this shoot feels so long ago. much, much longer than a month. as often happens to me in the winter, I'm feeling disconnected from my body, from time, from my creative impulses, and devoid of motivation to reconnect. it doesn't help that this season has no plans to slow down this month: my days off are precious few, and my schedule is packed with private lessons and weekend camps. I'm so glad that long days are coming soon, and with them the daylight to go for afternoon hikes.
I think I'm also still processing this highlight on nudity outdoors on the Indigenous Women Hike Instagram, which I highly recommend reading. It discusses the privilege expressed by so many people who get naked outdoors, be that thin privilege, white privilege, male privilege, cisgender privilege, the list goes on. It also discusses consent, "spirituality" on native land, and the defensive reactions from white people the woman running IWH has received. It's a lot to process, and it has me honestly wondering if I'm doing everything wrong here. It's hard to sort out defensive reactions and white guilt from a productive conversation within myself.
sometime in the near future, I want to write more thoroughly about this. for now, I'm trying to shape that internal conversation around
what impact can I have in making the outdoors a safer place for everyone, so everyone has the comfort to do what I do?
how can I better seek consent from those I interact with- online or in person?
how can I educate better about being naked outdoors in a way that doesn't jeopardize others' consent?
are there ways I can bring people along, literally or figuratively, to expand access to the outdoors for those who don't have it?
what organizations can I support, and in what capacity can I support them, to make the outdoors a safer and more accessible place for everyone?
what resources can I seek out to learn more about the native land I'm on, and what is permissible in recreating on native land?
shot by me on the stolen land of the Numu (Northern Paiute), Western Mono/Monache and Eastern Mono/Monache.
