Purpose. Opportunity. Repose.

Within his wondrous realm, these were what blossomed for many. After all, Askr offered a momentary break from an individual’s original life—a pause to whatever expectations and burdens coated their soul. Here, they could pursue whatever they desired at their own pace and put their talents to use however they saw fit.

The only thing expected of them in return was a contribution to the kingdom’s longevity. Whether that was through direct combat against those who threatened peace, helping at an orphanage, managing shops, farming, craftsmanship… it ultimately didn’t matter. Almost everybody, young and old, found a position to fill, with plenty of breathing room in-between to find fulfilling hobbies or maintain existing ones.

Almost everybody, that is.

Some were too chained to their original lives. The promise that they could return to the point at which they departed, or that they could use their experiences here to forward their ambitions in this original world—it simply did not matter to them.

For this reason, some chose to return home, and that was that. Not everybody could adapt to this new realm so easily. Sometimes, that was just how things were.

Yet… despite the blatant incompatibility, there were some who opted to stay.

Morgan was one of these unusual cases.

Fascinatingly enough, this was not the first Morgan you had met! Another had been summoned to Askr years prior, but unlike this second case, that one had adapted well to her new environment. An opportunity to further her tactical knowledge and impress her father? What wasn't there to love?

This second Morgan, however, was very different. Unlike the original, this one had been twisted by the forces of darkness, expressing her loyalty to her master, Grima. That was the core reason she refused to contribute to the cause.

Yet, rather than return home willingly, she had opted to stay. Her reason was simple enough: she believed her master would inevitably find her and bring this world to ruin. Truthfully, her claim wasn’t exactly impossible—there was always a chance you could end up summoning the Fell Dragon itself. It wouldn't be the first time somebody not so pleasant answered the call.

However, you suspected Morgan's definition of ‘inevitable’ was probably ‘a few weeks at best’. It had been months since she was summoned, and in recent weeks, she had shown an increasing degree of impatience. This led to her deploying some… drastic tactics, to say the least.

Once again, she found herself within your presence, her expression somehow radiating both optimism and frustration.

“You should summon my master, Summoner” she spoke firmly, her speech coming across more like a command rather than a suggestion. “Do this, and you may be spared when this world meets its inevitable doom. I'm offering the deal of a lifetime, you know.”

This was not the first time she had come to you with this offer, nor would it be the last.

“I can’t do that, Morgan,” your answer was the same as ever. “I’ve already told you before—I can’t control who I summon. It isn’t that simple.”

If you could, you certainly wouldn’t dare summon Grima anyway.

Morgan grumbled in annoyance, though you quickly noticed her aggravation wasn’t as high as it typically was. This was usually the time she would scowl at you and begrudgingly leave, but it seemed she wasn’t too keen to leave just yet.

“There must be a way,” she grumbled, her tone making it perfectly clear her resolve had been beaten down a little, but she wasn't down for the count just yet.

You wanted to feel bad… but the only thing that could bring her salvation would also spell doom for the entire kingdom, so, uh, you didn’t feel that bad at all.

Truth be told, there were a few rare cases where you could choose a hero directly from a small selection. These incidents had occurred whenever you summoned heroes frequently in a small window, as if some higher entity had taken pity on you and offered a consolation prize.

Of course, you weren't going to tell her that. It would ultimately give her false hope; you had no control over who was available in that selection.

There was also the part about not wanting to summon an evil dragon to annihilate the Order of Heroes. That was pretty important too.

“I'm sorry, Morgan,” you tried your best to sound genuinely remorseful. “I just can’t help you with that, and I really need to finish this report right now, so is it okay if you come back later? If there’s any other problems you’re having, I could help with those then.”

The urgency of your report was a little exaggerated, sure, but her stubbornness was a song and dance that always played out the same. She would try again, and again, and again—and your answer would always be the same. You didn’t want to turn her away; truthfully, you would have loved to teach her that there was more to life than her loyalty!

But it was a sad truth that some were just too stuck in their ways.

Your dismissal was deliberately worded to give her a chance to think things over. Hopefully, she would consider coming to you about some of the other problems she was having instead. For example, it was obvious that adjustment was a core issue even though she never brought it up. There were even reports that she had been seen sulking by her lonesome, and although some had tried approaching her to help, she had threatened them and stormed off in response.

She had a tough shell and it was going to take some time to crack. There was a chance it never would, but that was a thought you refused to entertain.

Morgan was displeased about adding another failed attempt to her tally. Interesting enough though, you telling her that she had to leave was what prompted the strongest reaction. She looked… sad?

That was a first. Had you ever seen her look… disheartened? You were very used to seeing her being, well, angry, and not a whole lot else.

Hm.

You had a theory. It was a ridiculous theory and you were probably overanalyzing things… but there was a possibility this girl actually did want to talk about something else—something actually unrelated to Grima.

She just didn’t know how to.

That was fine, of course—you were a patient person! That being said, you weren’t sure how long it would take for her to figure things out. One more visit? Ten more visits? One hundred? It was hard to say.

But you could gently push her in the right direction. Forcing her to speak about whatever was on her mind would do you no good, but subtly convincing her you were somebody she could trust and confide in? That could do the trick.

Of course, you needed to actually make sure she did want to talk about something else. Morgan sharing these new emotions could mean, well, anything. Fortunately, you had already conjured up a scheme that would hopefully answer your question.

“If you'll excuse me,” you spoke up again, catching her attention. “I need to use the restroom.”

You didn’t actually need to use the restroom, but your idea did require you to leave momentarily. Nobody—not even somebody as naturally wary as her—would question whether you genuinely needed to go or not. Therefore, it was the perfect means to excuse oneself without suspicion and observe from a safe distance!

And observe you did.

Confident you had left your sight, you peered around the corner and carefully watched from afar, mindful of any noise, lest you expose your eavesdropping.

How did the wild Morgan act on her lonesome? That was what you wanted to know.

At first, not at all. She stood there awkwardly, consumed by her thoughts.

Then she started grumbling again, and then she started fidgeting, and honestly? It was super cute. With no eyes on her—as far as she knew—she was free to have a little tantrum. Unfortunately, she eventually grew conscious of how she was acting and managed to compose herself somewhat.

Then she did something quite unexpected.

She took the report you had been writing.

You were initially ready to step in, fearful she was about to tear the thing into pieces. However, she treated the papers with great care, moving around the room until she found an adequate place to… hide them?

Huh.

Why would she—

Ah.

This was how she prolonged her presence here, wasn’t it? You would return, find the report missing, and she would offer her assistance in locating it.

You weren’t entirely wrong about her wanting to talk about something else, but you hadn’t accounted for the fact that you were probably the only person she wanted to converse with.

She had talked about sparing you when the supposed hour of doom arrived, after all.

Morgan—dare you say it—was actually considering you to be a… friend?

Well, “tolerable acquaintance” probably fit the bill better, but it was a start!

It made you wonder whether all the Grima talk was just an excuse to talk to you at all. Talking about her master was second nature so that was easy enough, but specifically targeting you was a whole different matter. Sure, you were the only one capable of summoning, but she could have easily bugged the prince and princess too.

You were intrigued. There was more to this particular flavor of Morgan than you first thought.

A few moments later, you stumbled back into the room, making certain you accounted for the average time spent in a restroom to avoid suspicion. You could never be too careful with a tactician’s daughter.

“Morgan?” you acknowledged her continued presence. “How come you’re still here? I did say I need to finish that—”

Your pause was deliberate. You scanned your table for the missing papers, selling the act further by pulling your eyebrows forward and squinting your eyes.

“Looking for your report, are you?” Morgan bought the act just as you hoped, smiling triumphantly. “I know where it is, but I’m not going to tell you.”

Huh. So THAT was the game she wanted to play, hmm?

Alright then.

“And why is that?”

“Why?” Morgan crossed her arms and growled, adopting a tone that certainly sounded harsh, albeit a tad forced. You had heard her bicker enough to know whether she was genuinely angry. “Because, Summoner, I am NOT done talking to you!”

“I—”

“You are going to listen to everything I have to say,” she cut you off. “If you play nice, I MAY give you that precious report back.”

You really were the chosen one! Morgan was infamous for refusing to hold conversations with anybody. Many had tried, and many had failed. She would only engage in talk when it was absolutely necessary from her perspective—the aforementioned obsession with wanting her master to be summoned was a great example of that. Even then, she would still keep chatter to a minimum. One dismissal—maybe two, if she was feeling especially stubborn—was usually enough to make her give up and leave promptly.

Today, however, was different! For one, she was still here! And this game of hers? You knew what it signified.

This was how troublemakers acted when they wanted attention.

They, well, made trouble.

“I’m listening.”

Morgan appeared momentarily caught off guard by your response, seemingly expecting some resistance. Nevertheless, she cleared her throat and composed herself.

“Simply put, I am not done trying to convince you to summon my master,” she made her intentions clear, and obviously, you weren’t buying it for a second. “And you will find my new reasons to be quite persuasive.”

In other words, she had figured out how to keep you engaged in a conversation for a long time. That was all well and good, but this just wasn’t the ideal location for such a long conversation.

Hm.

Your mind quickly drifted to a recent phenomenon. A collection of heroes from Fódlan and Firene had brought with them a custom that had proven very popular amongst the heroes, and it was a particular delight that you believed suited this conversation quite well.

You were also feeling hungry. There was that too.

“I will accept on one condition,” your answer perplexed her, but she gestured to you to continue. “We will discuss this over some tea and cakes.”

Morgan narrowed her eyes.

“...Tea? Cakes…?”

Your suggestion furthered her confusion, but it wasn’t because of the spontaneous offer of a cozy little teatime session. Rather, her expression signified quite the revelation—she didn’t even know what either tea or cakes were.

Now that was something you had to fix!

Tea was the beverage of the gods, keeping you awake and warm during moments of immense stress. Cakes were edible comfort, each layer a fleeting but wondrous taste of perfection. These were delights you were now very keen to share with her, for it would be her first taste, quite literally, of what an ordinary life in Askr was supposed to be like.

Of course, you weren’t going to force anything down her throat. If she ended up opposed to the atmosphere you were presenting, or disliked what you were offering, you would think of something else. Regardless, the fact she wasn’t outright declining your suggestion at all was a step in the right direction.

“Come,” you told her. “I’ll show you.”

___

Morgan did not look as uncomfortable as you were expecting her to be. The sensation was certainly there, but her pride was doing her a favor for once and preventing her from lashing out immediately.

You had taken her to one of the castle’s many gardens, specifically one that was secluded and out of the way—an ideal location for teatime sessions. Thanks to your position, you were able to procure a respectable range of foods and teas for her to sample.

Honestly, that was probably what was causing her current discomfort.

“...What is the catch?”

“There… isn't one?”

“This is poisoned, isn’t it?” Morgan’s assumption was extreme, but also easy to disprove.

“Pick one,” you encouraged her. “I’ll eat whichever one you choose.”

It was best to shut down her suspicions before they could spiral into something outrageous.

Morgan scanned the selection… for quite some time. You had not been kidding about the plentiful options, and it seemed your decision to share such a bounty was a wise one.

“That one,” she pointed to a small white cupcake without many sprinkles. “It looks pathetic—just like you.”

Her attempts at being harsh were just cute by this point.

You would never tell her that though.

As instructed, you picked up the treat and took a bite, maintaining eye contact as your expression never changed.

“Tastes pretty good,” you told her. “Most delicious poison I’ve ever eaten.”

Morgan looked unnerved, but conceded that there was no catch and grabbed one delicious-looking cupcake—one entirely coated in chocolate and covered in sprinkles, the ultimate enemy of the tooth. She bit into it eagerly, her eyes momentarily widening while she experienced a small taste of heaven.

To her credit, Morgan was doing well at hiding how much she was enjoying this. Her expression certainly painted the image of nonchalance, but her subsequent devouring of the remainder of the cake—and then helping herself to another—communicated a different story.

This poor, stubborn thing had refused to indulge in Askr’s luxuries, hadn't she? Perhaps she saw it as a sign of weakness.

Morgan soon swallowed her treat, but in her haste to do so, things didn't quite go down the right way, promoting a coughing fit. You hastily handed her some tea, the warm liquid soon soothing her throat and calming her down.

She looked simultaneously embarrassed and pissed, unable to focus on either feeling, at least at first. Morgan ultimately cleared her throat and sighed.

No gratitude came, but you weren't expecting it.

She seemed content, but then a frightening scowl formed on her face, as if she had just made an unsettling realization. “That… tea… was the real poison, wasn't it?!”

Morgan looked like she was ready to strangle you at a moment’s notice, but fortunately, this was an easy enough conspiracy to debunk. You hastily took the cup she had drunk from and sipped it—several times, just to be sure. Naturally, you didn’t sip from the same end; an indirect kiss could be a recipe for disaster. Of course, you made sure she was watching as your throat contracted, and in response, she scoffed quietly.

Goodness.

Why did this girl think you were trying to kill her?! Did she honestly think you had purposefully fed her those cakes with the intention of making her choke, forcing her to drink the real poison without thinking about it?

Hm.

Honestly, you could kinda see it from her perspective. You had invited her to this rather spontaneously. She had every reason to be suspicious.

Silence reigned for some time, but you didn't mind that. This girl had a lot to think about and there wasn’t much else you could do to help—besides offering a comfortable environment to work through it all. Considering she had already resumed feasting upon the food, it seemed you had brought her to the right place.

Morgan only began slowing down after numerous slices of cake and other pastry delights, and doing so had done wonderful things to her mood. She now lacked the “I want to kill somebody” stare. To some extent, you missed it. It was, after all, still very cute.

“There is…” Morgan paused, averting her eyes for a moment before gathering the courage she needed to continue. “...another thing I wished to talk to you about.”

“Oh?”

“Unrelated to my master,” she added, and that was perhaps the most surprising thing of all. Was she actually willing to talk about her other troubles?

You leaned in, making sure she knew she had your undivided attention. “I’m listening.”

“These contracts,” she scoffed. “Can exemptions be made? There is an annoying pest I've been wanting to kill.”

…

You would have preferred something unrelated to killing.

But, well, it was something different. Baby steps.

“I'm afraid not,” you gave her an answer she was seemingly expecting, for her expression lacked any surprise and she simply sighed.

At the very least, the tea seemed to be doing the trick; Morgan seemed genuinely more relaxed than usual. It was a far contrast to how tense and on edge she usually was, and honestly, it was nice to see her look… happy.

Would it last? Probably not. Frankly, you could see her realizing how she was feeling and suddenly deciding to reject your offerings out of some stubborn, forced disgust—followed by her storming off, disappearing for an entire week.

That was fine though! Progress was progress! Until that time came, you were happy to bask in the momentary serenity, satisfied Morgan's shell was beginning to crack and—

“Oh, Summoner! There you are!”

Oh.

Oh no.

This garden was public, so somebody strolling through and finding you was never out of the question… but why did it have to be one of the loud ones?!

Some heroes were quite clamorous to say the least, adoring the sound of their own voice.

This new arrival was one such example.

“Good afternoon, Serra,” you greeted the cleric, noting immediately that her appearance differed from her ordinary attire—and you could already tell that this was going to be her chosen topic of conversation.

A surprising number of heroes had recently chosen to don fashion from the other realms. At first, you thought it was a fad, but it refused to die out. Every half a month or so, you’d always end up encountering a familiar figure wearing something fancy brand new.

In Serra’s case, it seemed she had taken a liking to some of Nifl’s fashion. In all honesty, it did look rather good on her.

“That's Lady Serra,” she corrected you with a huff and a puff. “But I will forgive you if you tell me what you think about my new outfit. Resplendent, isn't it?”

“It is,” you obviously weren't going to deny that claim, yet… “But, Lady Serra, I am a little busy right now, so—”

“Ah! Splendid! We share the same opinion!” Serra interrupted, caring not for what else you had to say—or perhaps just tuning you out after hearing what she wished to hear. “But do you know who did not? Erk!”

A notable grumble distracted you from the adjacent cleric, turning your attention back towards the lady sitting on the other side of the table.

A lady who was not pleased.

“Hey, you, pink-haired cretin, how dare—”

“I asked him, and GOODNESS, his response was appalling!” Serra didn’t hear Morgan at all. “Do you want to know how he responded to me? He growled at me, Summoner! Growled!”

Supposedly, Erk and Serra were inseparable in Elibe. That, of course, was her claim. From what you now understood, it appeared one half of the duo was not so content with having such a high-maintenance lady glued to their side.

Growled, hmm?

Funny she mentioned that—you just so happened to be hearing some growling from close by… and it was getting increasingly louder.

“Uh, I'm sorry, Serra, but—”

“You MUST aid me in my moment of crisis!” Serra just didn't care—no, she just wasn't listening, and that was a terrifying thing to do in the presence of somebody who wasn’t afraid to use violence to solve their problems. “He must be taught some manners, and if he won't listen to a lady like me, he may listen to—”

“Hey!” Morgan stood up, slamming her hands up on the table, finally catching Serra's attention. “Don't you see that we're busy here?!”

The outburst was shocking to witness, but not for the reasons one might expect.

Frankly, you were bewildered—and beyond thankful—she hadn’t immediately reached for her axe and attempted to cleave this girl in two. Such a feat would ultimately be impossible due to the contracts, but the intent would cause quite a scare.

Serra scoffed and crossed her arms, displeased by the interruption, but upon surveying the scene for a few moments, she soon… smiled?

“Oh, you must forgive me!” Serra sounded… genuinely apologetic? “This is a date, isn’t it?!”

“W-What—” Morgan attempted to speak, but predictably, she was interrupted.

…which was probably for the best.

“So the rumors were true!” Serra clapped her hands together, fascinated deeply by the revelation she had seemingly uncovered. “The Summoner does have a special somebody.”

…Huh?!

This was the first time you were hearing about any rumors!

“Serra—”

“So that’s why you’re here,” Serra continued. “A quiet, secluded garden, sharing all sorts of treats with each other! How adorable! This must be a first date, right?”

Morgan was reaching for her axe.

Oh no.

Oooooooh noooooooooo.

“Oh, you’re Morgan, aren’t you!” Serra seemed to finally recognise who she was talking to. “I’ve heard a lot about you. You’re the kindest thing, always helping others. The Summoner is very lucky to have you!”

Kindest thing…? Always helping others…? You weren’t sure about that one.

No offense to Morgan, of course, but…

Speaking of which, the girl in question appeared especially furious. If her anger had been at its maximum before, Serra’s subsequent comment had broken the limits.

“Summoner,” Serra giggled. “I have decided to graciously postpone dealing with the Erk Problem until later. Enjoy your date!”

Serra, perhaps sensing that danger was close, departed. Realistically though, she had just gotten very lucky and was oblivious to her fortune.

At least she seemed to understand that romance was something not to be disturbed.

Of course, what was happening here wasn’t romantic in the slightest! It was just good that she understood that privacy was sometimes necessary.

As Serra happily skipped away and her humming dwindled, an eerie quietness seized the moment. Not even the rustling of a nearby tree in the wind and the faint chirping of some birds could dispel the uncomfortable stillness.

…

…

…

Minutes had now passed.

Minutes that felt like an eternity.

Morgan had not moved—not even to sample any more food—and that was not a good sign. Her gaze was fixated on her lap, making it difficult to gauge how she was feeling.

At the very least, you took comfort that she had shown restraint and not attacked. Morgan was certainly no brute and understood the difference between a loudmouth and a genuine enemy, but it was obvious patience wasn’t her strong suit.

After what really did feel like an eternity, she was the one to break the silence, though not in a way you could have ever imagined.

“...Hey…” she spoke bizarrely quietly, only audible at all due to how silent it was. She looked up, and to your surprise, she seemed… flustered. “Is this… what you were planning all along…? This was supposed to be a… date?”

Great.

Morgan now thought you had tricked her into something romantic. Now that was grounds for a merciless slaughter. It was undoubtedly the cause of the fluster; she was humiliated by what you had supposedly done.

In other words, you had signed your death warrant.

…though then again, maybe not…?

Morgan WAS struggling to maintain eye contact for some reason. That glare of hers was borderline iconic at this point, and yet at this very moment, it was simply not present.

You soon learned why.

“...I've… never been on a date before…” she spoke quietly, fiddling with her hands as she articulated her thoughts. “I… never thought I'd ever engage in such bizarre customs… and with me, even though she is the one…”

Morgan shook her head and snorted.

“I…”

You wanted to correct this misunderstanding, but you held your tongue; this was a situation where the truth could undo all the progress you had made. Besides, you weren’t particularly sure what to say.

Silence soon reclaimed its throne, but its subsequent reign wasn't as nerve-wracking. Morgan soon resumed her feast, and though it seemed a lot was on her mind, she was keeping herself busy.

If there was any silver lining to the situation, it was that you had discovered she had quite the sweet tooth, you supposed. She ended up eating a lot, and when she inevitably leaned back in her chair and sighed, she looked content. All in all, food was a good way to bring her satisfaction and comfort.

“That… wasn’t half-bad,” her confession wasn’t the full truth, but she was getting there. “When Master Grima is summoned here, you shall not mention this day to him. Do you understand?”

“...That’s fine with me, yeah.”

That day wasn’t going to ever happen, of course. She had seemingly also forgotten about the entire reason she was even still here, but that wasn’t surprising.

“Good,” she stood, wiping away some leftover crumbs sticking to her thighs. She had been a bit of a messy eater, but that added to her charm.

Despite standing, she had yet to move a single leg. The twitching of her mouth and the mumbles that emerged from her lips indicated she had something to say but wasn’t ready to say it.

Stubbornness worked in her favor this time though; after a few moments, she finally spoke.

“...Thanks, for, uhm, this…” she muttered in an almost incomprehensible manner, like every fiber of her body was trying to reject the words coming out of her mouth. “I, uhm, didn’t know dates were like this… but it was… nice…”

With that, she excused herself and left, leaving you baffled.

This hadn’t played out how you imagined it would, but you couldn’t argue against the results. Her farewell was spoken calmly all things considered, lacking the venom typically present in her tone.

Had it been the cakes or the tea that had done that?

Had it been a certain cleric’s remark that sparked an internal debate?

Or perhaps it had simply been…

Well, it was ultimately progress of some kind.

You just hoped she wouldn’t freak out about all this later and decide she never wanted to see you again.

…because that would make you sad.

___

It had been a few days since you last saw Morgan.

Well, that Morgan.

Today, the original—if it was even right to call her that—was paying you a visit, helping you with general tasks and chores. She had approached you asking for a discussion about strategy, and upon learning you were hesitant due to the abundance of paperwork you had to do, she decided to lend a hand.

It was admittedly a little weird watching this Morgan in action after what had happened with her variant. The constant joy on her face as she organized your papers in alphabetical order while keeping in mind deadlines was fascinating to watch though. She claimed she had helped her father deal with similar matters before, so something like this was a walk in the park.

“Thank you, Morgan,” you were grateful. “I owe you one.”

“No problem!” she was as happy as ever. “Shall we talk strategy now? I’ve really wanted to chat to you about a few things on my mind.”

Morgan quickly shifted the conversation to the most recent skirmish against the Order’s latest enemy, which was fine, but after spending all day during Order of Heroes business, it was honestly the last thing you wanted to discuss. Alas, you had promised her, and you weren’t about to back down from that especially after how she had helped you.

On the bright side, it wasn’t the longest discussion ever, mainly focusing on some of your strategies. There was both praise and honest critique in there, and in the end, you both gave each other some good pointers and insight.

Content with your answers and the discussion that took place, she expressed her gratitude (which you returned tenfold, because goodness you had not been looking forward to organizing all those files on your own) and left.

…only to return a few minutes later.

“Ah, Morgan, you’re back, did you forget—”

You froze as soon as your eyes darted across her expression.

That scowl.

You had seen that scowl before.

Also, the change of clothes. That was a pretty big giveaway too.

“...Morgan, hey…”

This was that Morgan—the one with a sweet tooth.

Though nothing about her seemed sweet today.

Far from it, in fact. She looked pissed.

“Why were you with her?” Morgan looked like she would have crossed her arms angrily if it weren’t for the fact she was gripping her axe rather strongly.

Not good.

The presence of her counterpart had clearly caused an upset, and while you weren’t certain as to why, you could hazard a few guesses. Regardless, you knew it was instrumental to set the record straight before she decided to swing that thing.

“She was just helping me out,” you answered quickly. “I’ve been dealing with a lot of paperwork—not to mention one of my reports went missing and I had to redo it.”

Morgan loosened her grip with that last comment. She had blatantly forgotten about that, giving you a “get out of axe swing” card to work with. Of course, you hadn’t needed to redo a thing, but now that she thought you had, she genuinely looked remorseful.

Bleh. It suddenly didn’t feel so good lying to her like that!

Even if it was to avoid a fatal injury…

“Oh, uhm…” she stuttered, looking away momentarily before swallowing. “...What kind of work…?”

A change of topic, huh? That was understandable.

Morgan listened intently as you summarized what you had done with her counterpart, but the reaction at the end wasn't what you expected in the slightest.

She was now pouting. It completely juxtaposed the fury in her eyes, painting an unfamiliar expression you weren't sure how to describe.

…other than cute, of course.

“Stupid worm…” she mumbled. “I could have done those things too, you know… and I would have done it a lot faster and more efficiently too! Hmph!”

Huh.

Now she was pissed again!

At least this time, it was an adorable kind of anger. Interestingly enough, what she had said was the closest she had gotten to lending anybody a hand with anything. That was progress!

Though you weren’t sure how to respond to her declaration.

“I’m… sorry?”

That was, sadly, the best you could come up with. Jealousy wasn't something you had witnessed from this Morgan before, though you were beginning to understand why it existed; of all the heroes who had helped you, it just had to be her alter ego. There were definitely some insecurities there.

“Next time, do not accept help from her,” Morgan decided to be demanding. “Ask me instead.”

“Oh?”

Now that was interesting!

“Well, it’s just…” she realized what she had said. “Y-You and I will be working together, uh, once Master Grima is summoned to this world, so… we may as well get used to it early, r-right?”

Good save.

The Grima excuse was a good way to hide how childishly (but adorably) selfish she was being.

However… it wouldn’t be right to deny her counterpart’s aid just because of this one’s security. The offer of aid existing at all was appreciated, but not with this condition.

Morgan noticed your hesitation and seemingly predicted it would happen, for she had a little something extra to say.

“...I am willing to bargain.”

Bargain, huh? It seemed she had come prepared.

You weren't sure what she could offer that would make you change your mind… but there was nothing wrong with hearing her out. Your curiosity has certainly been tickled.

“Shoot.”

Morgan swallowed hard, gazing away while biting down on her lip.

Perhaps prepared wasn't the right word to use. She knew what she wanted to say, but actually letting those words escape her lips? That was a behemoth of a task that she had not readied herself for.

Luckily, her stubbornness once again saved her. While it took a number of attempts and some considerable time, she managed to finally speak her mind.

“We could… uhm… ah… g-go on another date… if you want…”

…To her credit, you were not expecting that. It felt wrong to hear something like that come from her.

Did that teatime session really classify as a date though?

Well, it didn’t matter. Serra had put the idea in her head and it wasn't leaving. You weren't sure whether to thank or scold her for that next time you saw her, but the facts were undeniable—her claim was going to help you get closer to this girl, even if the methods are unconventional.

But was another date really worth it? Morgan’s—the one who was here earlier—help had truly been invaluable, and it just wouldn't be fair to suddenly exclude her from here on out by agreeing to this proposition. That would cause problems later down the line, to say the least.

Well, bargaining was a two-way street…

“Hmmm,” you mumbled. “I’m not sure, Morgan. Just a second date?”

Morgan’s eyes raised in surprise at that comment, but she cleared her throat and kept herself together. “...you want more than that?”

Hm.

Well…

No, no no no. It still wasn’t worth it. Not accepting help from the other Morgan? That still wasn’t good.

“Well, I’m not against that idea,” you smirked. “It’s mainly your condition that’s the problem though.”

Morgan crossed her arms and sighed. That was good. The axe gripping was no more. Your limbs were safe for now. “Fine. Consider the second date a freebie.”

Hm.

You could work with that.

How interesting though! A free date? It almost made you ponder whether that condition was truly that important…

“But in exchange for that, bring cakes,” she added something extra that wasn't in the fine print, but luckily you were going to do that anyway. “Lots of them.”

Hah.

It totally wasn’t.

There was still one tinsy, tiny problem though. A date, well, implied an interest in romantically pursuing the other individual. Was that something she was conscious of? Was it possible she believed dates were a food exchange and nothing else?

Well, it didn’t matter; the shell had been cracked, and if this was how you were going to get her to open up more, then it was objectively a good thing.

“It's a date.”

___

The second teatime (date?) was scheduled for the following day. Fortunately, you had some spare room in your schedule—and even if you hadn’t, you would have made some.

Unfortunately, things had not started out great.

First and foremost, Morgan was nowhere to be seen. You had given her the time and location, and yet… no show.

Secondly, that was bad because you really had brought out the treasure trove of delights—and you were not going to be able to eat them all by yourself.

Thirdly, a solution to that would be to contact a connoisseur of sweets like Lysithea.

Fourthly, the issue with that was that it would test fate; Morgan would undoubtedly show up right as somebody was chewing on the food meant for her.

Fifthly, you were thinking way too much about these things.

Luckily, your patience wasn’t tested too much, for the lady of the hour arrived fashionably late. Ten minutes late wasn’t ideal, and she looked a little aloof with her hands behind her back like that, but at least she was finally here.

To make up for her lateness, she did something you were once again not expecting.

“...I’m sorry I’m late.”

A genuine apology for—

“Those weaklings at the bakery took far too long with my order. I was almost ready to slice them apart for their incompetence.”

Huh.

Morgan sighed as she sat down, seemingly oblivious to her surroundings, but that soon changed. Upon glancing at the variety of treats you had readied for her, her eyes and mouth momentarily widened in awe, but she hastily restored her usual cool facade.

You had been ready to tell her to dig in, but her earlier comment wasn’t something you were going to ignore.

“You visited a bakery? How come?”

That really didn’t sound like her at all, so, well, you were really curious about that!

If it had been any other day, it would have partially made sense; she could have stomached the social interaction in exchange for some sweets… but she also knew you were going to provide a lot.

Morgan had become quite attached to the concept of looking away shyly and evading eye contact.

“N-No reason…”

Even speaking shyly, too.

What was up with this girl? Where had all that snark gone? You weren’t against the transformation, of course, but it was a little jarring to witness.

“Really?”

Morgan was having some kind of internal battle if all that fidgeting was any indication, but in the end, she managed to calm herself down and unveil the truth.

You had been wondering why her hands had been behind her back the entire time, but as she brought them to the forefront, everything became clear.

“Here,” she passed you a small object wrapped in cloth. “It, uhm, isn’t much, but…”

You took the… present? That was what this was, right?

Morgan… was giving you a gift?

Had those cakes actually been poisoned with something that made her… sweeter?

“D-Don’t just look at it, you idiot…” she mumbled. “You’re meant to unwrap it…”

Morgan snapped you out of your bewildered state, and in return, you did as she asked. After unraveling the cloth, you were greeted by a small chocolate cupcake that appeared to be the same type she had tasted during the original teatime session.

“I, uhm, didn’t want to come with nothing,” she justified her actions. “It’s not much, I know, but… well, we ARE going to be partners when Master Grima is summoned here, so—”

“Thank you, Morgan.”

The least you could do for such a kind gesture was to take a bite. Morgan watched intently as if she was the one responsible for baking the treat, and when you swallowed and smiled, her nerves faded.

Although the remainder of the teatime session was coated in silence—primarily because neither you nor her could muster the courage to actually speak after a stunt like that—it wasn’t too bad when there was so much to eat.

In the end, the session concluded and you were left feeling… strange?

You weren’t sure what had befallen this girl. Of course, it was great she was opening up and willing to even give gifts! You had no complaints about that.

There was still a lot of progress to be made though. It was evident there was still a lot she wanted to say to you, and though the gift was naturally a fantastic gesture, you wished she could be more direct with whatever was on her mind. Both teatime sessions had ended up being relatively silent affairs—far from a traditional date.

___

“Good evening, Summoner.”

The face of a certain tactician was always pleasant to see after a hard and tiring day. Morgan—the one who smiled—had decided to pay you a visit. This wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, but it was peculiar to see her so distant. It was as if a lot was on her mind.

“Good evening, Morgan,” you greeted her. “How can I help you?”

“Uhm, what’s this I hear about you and I… dating?”

Ah.

Right.

You had completely forgotten about that.

Frankly, it was surprising that word hadn’t gotten to her sooner.

“Well, you see…”

You explained the situation to Morgan, clearing up the misunderstanding. Thankfully, she accepted your word without complaint and by the end, found the truth to be a little amusing.

Morgan sat back and smiled. “Mo-Mo, huh?”

“...Mo-Mo?”

“I’m glad she’s opening up to somebody,” Morgan seemed… happy? “But, uh, maybe cut the oblivious act? That’s not a good strategy.”

“...Huh?”

You hadn’t the faintest idea what she was talking about, and your confusion only grew when Morgan decided her time here was done and left. She had gotten the answers she was after so it wasn’t completely farfetched, but in exchange, she had left you with questions!

How rude!

Well, at least she hadn’t reacted badly to the rumor and had wisely come to you for clarification. If it had been the other Morgan…

___

“You WORM!”

Once upon a time, you had loathed the idea of participating in some training drills. In hindsight, you were glad Alfonse had been so insistent in making sure you at least knew how to defend yourself.

It was thanks to that insistence that you were miraculously dodging multiple swings of a gigantic axe.

Things had been going well with Morgan—the axe-swinging one, that is.

She was a frequent visitor, providing assistance while keeping it cool, and bringing up Grima whenever she recalled suddenly that she actually served a master.

There had even been talks of a third date!

It was still unusual progress, but it was progress of some kind and that was better than nothing.

Yet, for some reason, on this particular day, she had decided to seemingly undo all that. She had charged into your quarters with the utmost fury plastered all over her face, and well, here you were…

…trying to SURVIVE.

“Morgan, you need to calm down, I’m sure we can talk—”

You barely managed to evade her slamming her axe down, splitting your poor desk in two.

“No, never,” she spat. “You’ve poisoned my mind—no, my heart.”

“W-What do you mean? Talk to me, please.”

So this was how you were going to die, huh? It was a good thing her axe was heavy and all, but all she needed was one successful swing to take you out.

One saving grace was that she seemed uncharacteristically worn out. You had seen this girl on the battlefield—several swings was not enough to take her out.

Yet, here she was, completely flustered and out of breath.

“I saw you with her again!” she growled. “And it felt like my heart… it was…”

“Well, we never agreed that she wouldn’t be—”

Morgan gathered her strength and swung her axe once more, lotching it deep into the floorboard. You barely managed to evade that one—and that signified one thing and one thing only.

The next one? That was going to be the killer.

You could at the very least understand her motivations, even if her actions were completely out of order and extreme. Morgan—the one who didn’t have a desire to murder you—had given you a helping hand the previous day, and it seemed word of that had found its way to this one’s ears.

“Morgan, please, talk to me. Say anything—anything.”

Your plea was desperate and likely to fall on deaf ears, but by some miracle—likely influenced by her exhaustion—she decided to put a pause to the onslaught.

Instead, she sat down on your bed—one of the only things that had survived her rampage. She let go of the axe and leaned back, spreading her arms and legs as she soaked in the comfort of the mattress and relaxed.

“Why did you poison me?” Morgan asked, her voice weak and tired.

“I didn’t—”

“You did,” she groaned. “Why else would my heart hurt so much around you?! And whenever I think about you with her, Little Miss Perfect who everybody loves… it gets even worse. Why bother with me when she’s right there?”

The insecurity this one had around her counterpart was obvious enough, but you had no idea it was, well… this bad.

No wonder she had been so annoyed at Serra’s comment. Morgan—the one she loathed—was indeed the perfect little hero for many, always lending a hand to others. It was no wonder this one saw this variant of hers so beloved by others and felt a wide range of difficult emotions.

…but why were you also somebody that made her heart—

…

Ah.

Was this that oblivious strategy in play?

Wow. What a fool you had been! Everything made so much more sense now.

This wasn’t just a girl who lacked societal norms and didn’t understand basic concepts like cakes and tea.

This was somebody feeling love for the first time.

Honestly, was it any wonder you hadn’t noticed? She hadn’t exactly expressed it that well.

Besides going on dates, and giving you a gift, and, uh…

Hmm.

Maybe you were to blame.

Goodness, you needed a crash course on this stuff—it had almost cost you your life.

But c’mon—nobody could have predicted somebody like Morgan, so devoted to Grima, to fall in love with you!

The same person who always came to you and nobody else, and got jealous that you had been talking to another girl, and uh…

Hm.

Ah.

You needed more than a crash course.

Although you were ready to self-reflect more on all the silly things you hadn’t picked up on, your focus was instead drawn to the increasingly loud sniffing. This led you to discovering a sight that broke your heart in two.

Morgan was crying, and from what she had said to you whilst trying to kill you, it seemed she wasn’t the only one who needed a crash course on love. She didn’t understand what was happening to her.

Therefore, it was time to make things right.

“Morgan,” you said gently. “You shouldn’t put yourself down like that. You’re special too.”

“Shut up,” she spat. “She’s the one always helping you.”

“You’ve helped me too,” you reminded her. “And only one Morgan has ever given me a chocolate cupcake, you know.”

Morgan didn’t respond for some time, your comment not one she could quickly rebute.

Instead, she relied on outright lying to herself.

“That meant nothing…”

“Well, it meant a lot to me.”

That wasn’t a lie. Although you may have somehow dodged the true meaning behind her gesture—though to be quite frank, so had she—that didn’t mean the present didn’t mean a lot to you. It wasn’t everyday somebody went out of their way to give you something like that.

Morgan managed to somewhat pull herself together and sit up, wiping away her watery eyes with her tears.

“The poison is in my eyes too,” she whispered. “Make it go away…”

You weren’t entirely confident you could, but there was a chance you could replace them. After all, you had one heck of an idea.

A very, very stupid idea.

One that would not help her confusion, but it would at least flare more… favorable emotions, hopefully.

You sat besides the sulking girl, gently placing your hand on her cheek. She flinched a little, but seemingly took comfort in your warmth. When you tilted her head towards you, she allowed it, and the subsequent eye contact lasted for what felt like an eternity.

Mustering all your strength and courage, you leaned in… planting your lips against hers.

To your great surprise, she… kissed back. For somebody who didn’t know a lot of things, she knew how to smooch. You had expected to leave her speechless by the end of this, but in quite the plot twist, you were the one left unable to articulate a single world upon pulling away.

At the very least, it was nice to see that a faint smile had formed on her lips.

“...I… I read about those,” she confessed. “I, uhm… was reading about dates, and…”

Ah. That made sense.

More importantly, it was nice to hear her sound ordinary again. Somewhat, at least. Your act hadn’t vanquished the sniffles and the tears quite yet, but it had calmed her down. She was well on the road to recovery.

“...Can I have another…?”

You swallowed hard. That was a greedy request, but she had more than earned the right. Although you were a little too bewildered to speak, your body was still very much capable of movement, and your lips in particular were very eager to join against hers.

The second kiss soon transitioned into a third—which in turn, transitioned into a fourth, and a fifth, and a sixth, and a…

Each one was a little more intense than the last, the sea of emotions that were once lost in a storm finally finding the light. There was no longer any need to think about everything that had transpired—even the murder attempt. Why bother thinking about how this girl had just tried to slice you in two when it felt so good to kiss her? Her lips were gentle and soft, and borderline addicting.

Alas, everyone had a limit, and it was her that decided to pull away when she needed to breathe. What you saw heavily contrasted her earlier appearance; there were no longer any tears, there was simply an expression of awe at what had just happened, and honestly… she looked beautiful.

“...I… I didn’t just learn about kissing…” she spoke so, so softly, her tone so unbelievably gentle and adorable.

Even so, what she was potentially proposing there… that was quite the step, wasn’t it?

“Morgan, I—”

You were interrupted not by her words, but by her hand clasping yours.

…and then you were once again rendered speechless as she guided it to her between her legs, pushing up against her crotch.

A step? Scratch that. This was one heck of a leap.

But her intentions were very clear—she wanted you to know just how wet she was. Even through her leggings, you could tell she was absurdly turned on.

It was a little thrilling. To think that moments ago, this girl had tried to kill you, and now she was doing this. Everything had gone from one extreme to the other, but to some extent, that did feel very, well, Morgan.

Frankly, it was no wonder things had turned out this way. Adrenaline was one heck of a drug—and you were both experiencing it at its peak.

“...you made me like this,” she whispered into your ear. “So… take responsibility.”

Comments like that did NOT help.

“Morgan, this is quite the… well…”

Honestly, you weren’t sure why you even bothered speaking. Considering she opted to roll her eyes, it seemed she agreed.

“I did a lot of research,” she admitted. “And at the end of a date, sometimes, this can happen…”

This technically wasn’t a date, but…

Ah, scratch the technicalities. You were thinking way too goddamn much.

It was time to make love to the girl who had just tried to kill you.

It wasn’t like this relationship had ever been normal to begin with.

Morgan proved she had indeed done her research by discarding her clothes, and while there was a lot of armor to get through, it made the anticipation even greater. You followed in her footsteps, discarding significantly less clothing. Morgan finished up first, shuffling her body across the bed to take advantage of the nearby pillow, spreading her legs and showing you the fruits of your efforts directly.

Of course, it wasn’t just her pussy that was a feast for the eyes. The rest of her body was spectacular too! A modest pair of breasts, curvy hips, and some very delicious-looking thighs for good measure. There was a lot to love.

…and honestly, what you loved the most was her bashful expression. It was almost like she had just realized what she had done and was resisting the urge to cover herself up.

“...don’t just stare,” she spoke quietly, characteristically looking away shyly. “I told you to take responsibility.”

That was precisely what you were going to do.

You climbed onto the bed, getting into position between her legs, marveling at her figure for a little bit. Of course, you were conscious of the fact that this lady was not the patient type, which was why you soon teasingly pushed your cock up against your folds. The intersection alone caused her to shiver, sending a rush of pleasure she had likely never experienced before up her spine.

“...it’s already better than my fingers…”

Or maybe not.

“Morgan,” you whispered. “Let me know if it hurts.”

You realized how ironic it was to be so worried about her safety as soon as the words left your mouth. Alas, you didn’t let it dwell on your mind; you had a job to do.

“Tsk,” she scoffed. “I’ll be fine, idiot…”

Morgan proved she wasn’t being overconfident when you took hold, found her entrance, and began to push inside. The initial penetration did cause her to wince a little in surprise, but she had certainly been through worse.

On the other hand, you were NOT used to the absurd heat slowly surrounding your shaft. Morgan’s insides were suffocatingly hot, but you weren’t going to let that defeat you! She wanted you to take responsibility—and the only way to accomplish that would be to fuck her hard and fuck her well.

“I-It hurts…”

Oh.

Oh.

Morgan had been hiding her pain and the tears had returned… and it was heartbreaking.

You paused, moving a hand to her face to wipe a tear sliding down her cheek. “It’s okay. You’ve already been through the worst, I promise.”

“...a-are you sure…?”

Perhaps she hadn’t done as much research as she should have…

Either way, you were still determined to make this an experience she would never forget. Morgan breathed heavily, clutching a hand you offered tightly, using it to help distract her from the pain she was experiencing.

Your words ended up ringing true, for with every passing moment, the ache inside her dwindled and her breathing returned to relatively ordinary levels.

“Mhmm…” she mumbled. “It feels better now…”

Morgan smiled.

You were no stranger to a Morgan smile, but something about seeing it from this one was especially heartwarming. It wasn’t just an ordinary smile either… this one contained so much love.

She was happy.

Happy not just to be here, but happy to be here with you.

“...please keep going…” she urged you on, and naturally, you were eager to comply.

Somewhere along the line, this girl had stolen your heart just as you had stolen hers.

Satisfied she was ready, you resumed your motions inside her, sinking in a little deeper. Morgan handled it well, only expressing an occasional mild discomfort, but the determination on her expression indicated to you well that it was nothing to worry about. She was strong and she could handle it—she would handle it.

Once you were all the way in, you did not remain idle; after all, this was just the beginning. Morgan seemed a little puzzled when you began pulling away, but she soon learned why when you sank back in—this time, much faster than before.

“...d-do that again…” she purred.

Luckily for her, you had every intention of doing that many times, and as you fulfilled her wish many times, her smile—and the frequency of her adorable moans—grew.

You retained a moderate pace for some time, letting her get used to the sensation of being filled up, only ramping things up once you were convinced she either could handle more or was craving more—usually, both.

Her body reacted divinely to what you were doing, the constant trembling as she experienced euphoria radiating through her body a delight to watch. The jiggling of her breasts, the sweat dripping down her figure, the drooling escaping her mouth… it was all magnificent.

Morgan’s moans were growing all the more intense, and that indicated she wasn’t going to last much longer. That was a blessing in disguise, for you hadn’t quite adjusted to how absurdly warm her pussy was. The heat was surreal and undoubtedly pleasurable, but almost too pleasurable! It took much restraint to hold back the urge to cum right there and then, but you were determined to only do that once she had reached her peak too.

Fortunately, it was looking like that moment was about to arrive.

Morgan grasped your pillow tightly, letting out her loudest moan yet. Right on cue, her pussy tightened up dramatically, sealing your cock in place right as you nudged against the entrance to her womb. Her orgasm struck without warning, sending spasms throughout her body that were surreal to watch.

…albeit only momentarily, for the increased pressure soon brought you over the edge, shifting your focus to the most euphoric of pleasures.

Although you knew there were consequences to cumming inside a girl like this, you didn’t even attempt to pull out. The thought of doing so just felt… wrong. Therefore, you embraced the sensation, filling her to the brim with your seed.

The moment faded as quickly as it appeared, the singular taste of heaven not enough to satisfy neither you nor her. Nevertheless, desires mattered little when exhaustion was too strong to ignore. You ultimately collapsed next to her, and for some time, you both laid there, too breathless to even speak about what had just transpired.

But eventually, she recovered… and what did Morgan do first and foremost? She chose to snuggle up next to you, grasping your arm and using your shoulder as a pillow. The gesture was enough to snap you back awake after almost succumbing to slumber.

“...mhmm, that was my favorite date, I think…”

That wasn’t what you were expecting here to say, but you did have a pretty good comeback in mind.

“The date where you almost killed me?”

Morgan chuckled. You weren’t sure what was so funny, but on the flip side, your cum was currently flowing out of her pussy. Did that mean you had gotten the last laugh?

“I won’t do that again if you don’t see her anymore,” Morgan suggested.

…It seemed that insecurity still needed some work. Ah well. “You know I can’t do that.”

“Fine,” she bizarrely seemed to accept your answer. “But only if I’m the only Morgan you get to do this with! No others!”

Hah. Maybe not, then. She just wanted to be cute.

“Now that is a compromise I can get behind.”

It certainly helped that you weren’t even remotely close to pursuing a romantic relationship with the other Morgan, let alone anything sexual.

Not like that mattered.

There was only one Morgan for you.

“By the way,” Morgan mumbled. “I will still be pestering you about summoning Grima to this world.”

“Morgan, I—”

“...but if you fuck me like that every day… then maybe I won’t…”

Hah. That wasn’t a bad offer at all.

There was still much to figure out regarding your relationship with Morgan… but in this fleeting moment, it mattered little. For the time being, all that mattered was relishing the feeling of having her in your arms within your half-destroyed room.

Hm.

You had kinda forgotten about that part.

Ah well.

Worth.

This is definitely a new favorite of mine from you! Morgan is one of my favorite FE characters and I love how you wrote her here. The buildup to the smut was super well done, and her relationship with Kieran was very wholesome. Great job!

Thank you very much! Truth be told, I had to cut quite a bit because it was a little too ambitious for what is supposed to be 5000 words max (oops). Even so I think it turned out OK! The buildup was challenging but very fun to write :> I'm happy you enjoyed it!
