UPDATE 2025-02-02: The individual file for the base (gray - base) was not placed in the right orientation for printing. It is now corrected. Sorry for that.

Hello my dear friends!

I am very happy today to be back and to have a new model to present to you! As you all know, the last few weeks have been very difficult and being back at work does me some good. I still have work to do and some days are really difficult, but devoting time to you is a great escape for me. Thank you all once again for your patience and understanding!

That being said, let's move on to the current topic of this post; A new birdhouse model is now available!

Dozens of you have asked me for it in the comments and by private messages, so I decided to listen to you and here is the final result; A cute and well detailed birdhouse shaped like a Hobbit house!

With a beautiful wood texture and fuzzy skin on the grassy parts, it has a little magical look, very typical of these little houses.

The project is relatively simple and within everyone's reach, as long as you follow the instructions and take your time.

As for the "wood", I put a lot of effort into making the wood texture easily printable for everyone. You should have no problem coming out with nice pieces with a nice finish.

For mine, I printed the "wood" pieces on a textured bed, but I wonder if that was a good choice. If anyone does it on a smooth bed, I would love to see the results! :)

Now, the really important info:

TWO MODELS ARE AVAILABLE!

A "plain" model, like the other birdhouses from previous years and a model compatible with a blink camera. You have the option to print one or the other.

PLEASE NOTE: The model with the blink camera, I have not tested it yet in terms of camera. I added windows on the birdhouse, in order to increase the brightness inside. But tests must be done and if you want to do them, please let me know the results. The reason I haven't done any tests yet is that for a few days we have had cloudy skies and we received a lot of snow and I would like to do my tests on a nice sunny day to see the optimum result. So to be continued... I await your comments.

The parts for the blink camera option are in a folder of its own in the project. In the Bambu Lab project, the plates are marked as optional parts.

AS ALWAYS:

- All parts are placed in the right orientation for printing

- All parts are 100% support free

- The project is 100% printable on any type of 3d printer and it is also compatible in  dimensions with a "mini" printer like the A1 Mini or the Prusa Mini.

- Some parts were printed with fuzzy skin. It is mentioned in the file name, and the plates in  the Bambu Lab project already have the fuzzy skin set by object.

-Other parts require color changes. This can be done on any printer. If you are not familiar with color changes, just let me know and I will guide you a bit. The color names are specified in the file name as well.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT POINT:

Some parts (like the house body) are named "light yellow" which was my original color choice. But i didnt get good results with my light yellow, probably because of moisture, so i printed mine in a light beige instead. Just to avoid confusion.

NOTE ON COLOR CHANGES FOR BAMBU LAB USERS:

-In the project file, the color changes are already applied BUT BY LAYERS and not painted. You have to slice the plate to see the color changes applicable in the preview.

HARDWARE REQUIRED:

You will need (9x) M4x12mm screws.

8-32 x 1/2 also works or any other screw of similar diameter. For my part, I prefer the M4x12mm self-tapping type screws which offer a little more bite in the plastic. A bit like this one:

I think I've covered everything that needs to be said. Being a bit "rusty" from my last few weeks, if I've forgotten something, just let me know and I'll make the necessary corrections.

Have fun friends!!! Happy printing!

Pascal

David Haney

wow , i LOVE this one dude ., great work , i have a couple of the others but , I`m going through some stuff at the min . Once I`m back to full strength I will definitely be printing this one .

Adam Jones

Welcome back Pascal!!!! You've knocked this one out of the park....yet again!!!! Thanks so much for all the effort you put into not one....but 2 versions, so people can have the option to mount a camera!!! I can't wait to get this printed!!!!

Nicolas Gamand

Great design ! Curious to know what material you use ? Not specifically the colors but is it PETG ? ABS ? As I see those ones are leaving outside with cold or high temperatures, so I’m wondering it sustain very cold or very warm temperatures

jerald straub

Do you have a list of the colors you used?

Chris West

Great birdhouse to welcome you back. Thank you!

Chris West

PLA. Bird houses aren’t meant to be in sunlight, so PLA works just fine.

Trouwe Afdruk

This looks amazing Pascal, what a fantastic design! I can't wait to work on it, I might have all the colors already! Thanks, all the best 👍

Randy clayton

Welcome back!! Thanks for a other awesome design!!

An

How do you get to the Dropbox

Darknynja

This is absolutely amazing Pascal. I knew you would find a way to implement a Blink camera in a way that would out do all the others I've seen. It's so nice to have you back. Thank you for this.

Darknynja

Can you tell me what color filament you used for the roof and grass parts? I really like your color choices. As always you did a great job picking the colors.

Nicolas Gamand

Ok ! Thanks for responding so quickly ;)

Michelle

I am printing this right now. I wonder how hard it would be to turn the fairy houses you did into bird houses?

Hannah Galloway

I love this! I’m not an active paid patron, will this eventually be in the shop?

Andrew Smith

OMG it is so beautiful!!!!!!!

ChubbyVerse BY Made By An Adams

I think this would be a cute house for the kids to play with too. just need the bird round opening to be a more of a door. I make my kiddos so many flexi animals This would be a cute play house.

Escrich

Fantastic design!!!

Rhonda Maurer

Stunning! Can’t wait to start it! Am glad you’re back!❤️

Ruth Evans

Omg I love it 😍 I’ve just found my next project. Thanks for all your beautiful designs, I’m quite new to 3d printing and love how easy your designs are to make.

3DA Prints

These are incredible. Do you use PETG so they are more outdoor friendly?

Dale Salter

Could we please get a tea light version of this omg so cute

Joe Brassell

I've been printing bird houses in ASA where possible. But PETG should be pretty good too. Far less fumes.

Randy clayton

Does anyone have the dimensions for the whole bird house please? Like height x width? Thanks in advance!

Eduardo Correia

HI PASCAL. ON THE STANDALONE FILE: GRAY - BASE, YOU PLACED IT UPSIDE DOWN. JUST IN CASE PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE IT AND JUST PRINT IT. AS YOU SAID THAT ALL FILES ARE IN THE CORRECT PRINT ORDER WITH NO SUPPORTS. CHEERS AND WELL DONE, EXCELLENT BIRD HOUSE.

Sharon Devereux

It is approx 180mm high, 214mm wide and 195mm long not including the support.

Sorry, newby here. Just became paying member but I don't see where the files are or a link for dropbox? Anyone help?

Jrod629

Does this just fit the regular blink camera? Or blink mini?

PA1 MAKER

Thanks for notifying me Eduardo! It is now in the right orientation! Have a great day my friend! :)

PA1 MAKER

Hello and welcome my friend. The info to access the dropbox is in the first post pinned on top of my patreon. Its a monthly link with a password, and those are changed every month. You'll still have access to the full dropbox, the link and password are changed each month only to prevent those who left to access the dropbox anymore. I'll make a post today for the February link, so if you want to wait just a bit, you won't be confuse with both links. ;)

PA1 MAKER

Hello my friend. Its made for the outdoor blink camera. Unfortunately the blink mini is an indoor camera, so i would not recommend it for outdoor purposes.

Gregory A Henry

On average, how much are you listing these for if you sell them?

Randy clayton

Anyone else having issues with the Hobbit House frame cracking on them? I've increased the walls, infill, everything else i can think of to strengthen it. As soon as I go to screwing the screws in the base to the frame it cracks. I dont even tourque the screws down either. I've had 3 crack on me now. And yes I'm using petg.

C LR

Might need to triple check your printer calibration, if you do a real simple print with a say 5mm circle cutout, measure to see if it's actually 5mm. Usually it's one of two things in slicer - either elephant's foot compensation (first layer adjustment) if it's only out of spec on the first few layers OR you can go in and adjust your horizontal or XY expansion settings and that'll expand the holes if you use a negative value...but at the cost of also adjusting that entire model in the XY planes. Orcaslicer I know has XY Hole compensation that'll only adjust holes, might be an option but make sure to check out the preview - it's gonna adjust all internal "holes" in the model, not just specific ones. I'm sure Prusa/Super/Bambu have the same, prob Cura too at this point. I haven't printed this model or had one split, but at times I do wish we had modeled threads. Have some cheap M3/4/5 assortment of screws I used for one model that ended up stripping out a head just a few mm from fully tight on the last model I printed while trying to cut threads using that screw.

Randy clayton

It's not cracking at te screw holes. It's cracking at random spots on the actuall bird house part. Like the side walls of the house part

Randy clayton

Welp.... I feel like the NEEEEEEWB that I really am!!!! I was printing the petg beige on pla settings. I printed 4 that cracked..... almost a whole roll of filament wasted bc of me rushing trying to get my orders out!!!

Gregory A Henry

I used Polyterra muted green for the roof and a light wood color for the sides. Bambu matte brown for the details and Bambu blue-gray for base and chimney. They seem to match the pictures pretty well.

Darknynja

Thank you for this info. I already have most of those filaments you mentioned. Pascal always picks the best color combinations, so I try to copy them.

Matt Marmet

As for threads, I've found that heating up the screws a little with a lighter right before screwing them in, really works great. It softens the plastic just enough and then molds it around them.

Darknynja

I wonder why when using the Bambu project file after I change the printer from P1S to X1C it carries over all of the settings except Layer Height? On the P1S it has the roof sliced at .12 with fuzzy skin but on the X1C it has set to .28 with fuzzy skin. I couldn't figure out why the time to print on the P1S was almost 13 hours and on the X1C it was a little under 6 hours. After comparing everything I noticed the difference in layer heights. This would explain why the main house body took no time to print, and the quality wasn't what I had hoped for. It did the same thing with that part. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

Ricardo Valdes

What model Blink camera does this Birdhouse use?

Wayne Mason

I cant seem to find this in the download file?

Magsw257

How do I download this pls

Randy clayton

Do you have any Hummingbird houses or feeders by chance? I did a quick search but didn't see nay for hummingbirds... Thanks in advance!!

Karen Crist

I love your bird houses! I was wondering how you clean them out after nesting season is over. Is there a panel that slides off or does the roof come off? Thank you

PA1 MAKER

Hello Karen! Yes, all birdhouses have an access door to clean them between seasons. For this model, the house can be unscrew from the gray base to have a full access to the interior.

Rémi Gagné

Bonjour Pascal, aurais tu la liste des filaments utilisés pour ton impression?

PA1 MAKER

Bonjour Rémi. Je vais tenter de faire l'ajout durant le weekend! ;)

Melissa Clason

HEY!! NEW TIME PRINTER!! wondering if you can tell me because i feel stupid. how do i attach the bottom cleaning door? im assuming smaller bolts than i use for the ramp on the front (birdhouse - tooned edition

Skye

It uses M4x6mm screws according to the directions I see.

3DThomas

Hi. Love your birdhouses 😀 I’d love to see a version with space for heated inserts for the baseplates and bottom screws. Keep up the good work😀

SH85_Printing

Es ist super geworden, super Arbeit und super Design !!!

Shannon DeFriese

I’ve been inserting M3 brass inserts in mine. Works great.

PA1 MAKER

Thanks a lot my friend! :) Glad you like it!

Simon

Hi Pascal Just been printing the hobbit house with the cam and bought a blink cam to fit in the holder, but the holder is too small! Side to side and height are fine but the radius of the corners is way too tight. Measuring across the diagonal the Blink cam is 86mm, but the holder in 85.5 mm. Any chance you could resize the cam holder so that it fits correctly please?

Ken

how do you download the file

Darknynja

Can we maybe get a cover for when the camera is not attached to the birdhouse? I attempted to make one, but it didn't turn out very well. I know Pascal could make one that fits perfectly. I want to be able to cover the hole when replacing batteries or during the off season when the house isn't being used as much.

Fraser

It is unreal

Darryl Turner

just wondering what version of the Blink camera are you supposed to get to fit the hobbit bird house?

James McCallister

Just finnished repairinng a storm-damaged deck. A new Hobbit house will go with the mountain atmosphere Ill let you know. Your prints are always solid. Thank you

Penny

I'm printing this and everything worked perfectly except the second plate of brown roof parts. I've tried on two different printers (both Bambu) and it keeps stringing on the upper layers. I'm pretty good at figuring things out, but have tried all of my tricks with the same results (drying the filament, slowing the print, adjusting the speed, etc) any suggestions?

Sue

I am new here and love your Birdhouses! Can someone tell me what type of filament and the colors please, thank you

Chris West

We no longer post the exact colors and filament used. Being that there are makers worldwide who use this model, they can’t all source the exact same filament. We encourage you to use your own creativity to find the colors that work best for you.

Chris West

Hopefully, you were able to find a solution. For printing-related questions, we highly recommend using the Facebook group—many similar questions have already been asked there, and the community is very active and helpful. You’ll find plenty of people willing to jump in and offer assistance. Best of luck, and feel free to reach out if you need anything else. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1403567230344891 Thanks so much for subscribing—we really appreciate your support.

Curtis Comstock

I am having the exact same issue on my bambu. Everything else has had no issues.

Chris West

A recently cleaned plate does wonders!

Dale Salter

Is there a way to convert this into a light up fairy house to sit on a desk.

Chris West

Seeing that this is about 7 in.³, that would make a very large fairy house!

Dale Salter

Yes but it would look really cool

Dale Salter

Or can we get a hobbit fairly house, pleeeeeeaseeeee

Chris West

Feel free to remix this yourself and make it a fairy house. Many members have done just that with other models.

Hello, I have a question. The filament used for The Hobbit Birdhouse is PLA. Wouldn't PETG be more suitable for outdoor use? Or, will using an epoxy sealer keep the PLA from weatherizing well enough?

Chris West

PLA is generally acceptable. We suggest you look through our Facebook group as this question has been asked there a few times. You may find some great tips.

B C

Yeah no, I don't do Facebook. I will use Petg to air on the safe side. I was just curious.

Duinan

Okay, found the issue (at least for me) for the second plate of brown parts. Because the wood grain is so detailed, it creates very small segments for the first couple of layers. Some of the pointed ends of those small segments stick up a bit, peeling from the plate. I tried multiple runs at different speeds, plate temps, nozzle temps, etc. Used clean plate and also tried with glue stick. Same issues basically each time. Then someone suggested that I turn on Brim (outer only). Worked like a charm! The brim came away easily (I set the distance at 0.2mm). It held the parts down long enough to get multiple layers on top. Perfect.

Chris West

Glad you found a solution for you! I have had tremendous success with the Frostbite plates as well. -Chris
