UPDATE: The Bambulab project files have been updated with the missing parts.

Hello friends! Me again!

Let me introduce you the gingerbread Christmas train! Probably my most ambitious Christmas project to date!

I will say it right from the start, this one was a tough one for me! But i am totally in love with the result and i can't be more happy with the final look!!!

The reason it was so tough, its because i wanted to make it really easy for you. So i had a lot of work to do to make things clear, define orientations and prevent any confusion. I must admit that i was a bit confused myself during the project, so i didnt want that to happen to you!

At a certain time, i had to redo a complete set of instructions because i made a mistake. With over 50 exploded views for the instructions in three different folders, its useless to say that it was a bit demanding. 😅

Like many other projects here:

-All the files are support free

-All the files can be printed with a regular printer

-All the files have color coded names with quantities

-All the files are already placed in the right orientation for printing

-Will fit on a Prusa Mini or BambuLab A1 Mini bed

-Bambulab 3mf files included in the folders.

There's a lot to say about this project, but most of the info has been included directly into the instructions. So read them carefully, don't hesitate to look a few steps ahead and (please) make some dry fit checks (without glue) during the whole project.

In the dropbox, you will find a folder with a huge amount of files. I strongly recommend that you make this project step by step, one item at a time. There's three parts in this project: The locomotive, the Candy Wagon (center) and the Wagon.

Start with the Wagon first. It will make the things much easier, and you will have some experience to do the candy wagon next.

For the signage and other multicolor files, all of them are made to be printed with some color change at height. So it is printable on any kind of printer. If you are not familiar with color changes at a specific height, send me a private message and i will help you with pleasure!

FOR THE BAMBULAB USERS:

3mf files are included in the folders. Be careful, some files are optional if you are using an ams or not. But its well indicated on the buildplates.

THERE'S A SMALL HOLE INSIDE THE CHIMNEY! Yep, and its there for a good reason: Insert a piece of steel wire into it and use some wadding (don't know if its the right term in english) to create a nice smoke column like my marvelous wife did on ours! The effect will be amazing, believe me!

FILAMENTS I'VE USED ON THIS PROJECT:

-BEIGE: D3D Filament - PREMIUM MATTE PLA Kraft

-RED: POLYMAKER - POLYTERRA Army red

-GREEN: BAMBULAB - PLA BASIC Green

-BLACK: POLYMAKER - POLYTERRA Charcoal black

-WHITE: GRATKIT - PLA White

-CLEAR: SPECTRUM FILAMENTS - PLA PREMIUM Translucent

Again, if you have any kind of questions, i'm always there to help you! I wasnt quite available in the last days for personal reasons, but i will be more present in the days to come!

I hope i didnt forget something. If its the case, don't hesitate to flag me any error!

Have fun my friends!!! Pascal

I can't wait to print this to go with my gingerbread house! It's so cool!!

sNp

Wow this is so beautiful. Good job

Bernadette Kruk

Amazing!!!! I can’t wait to get this printed- starting first thing in morning! Thank you!

Ethan Beurskens

I am blow away and slightly overwhelmed. My Ender 3 is shaking on its crappy bed springs just looking at all these parts 🤣

Justin Grewe

Does the wheels turn? I can't tell from the picture of the parts. Thanks.

Kenai

Oh! My! Gosh! This is amazing!!

Darknynja

Another amazing project. Thank you for taking your time making it as easy as possible and especially for making it support free. It’s obvious you put a lot of thought and hard work into this awesome model and I for one am very grateful.

Chris West

Hopefully someone is getting a Bambu for Christmas.

Chris West

How do your models keep getting better and better?! Wow! Not to mention how great your photos have been too!

3Demoniak

Whoa ! Il est incroyable !!! Le niveau de détail est fabuleux 🤩

Dwane and Sam

Absolute perfection. You have done an incredible job. ❤️

Bernadette Kruk

Justin, looking at the instructions, it does not look like the wheels turn

Escrich

Absolutely awesome!🥰🥰

Alberto

Hi! Great design again thank you!! I think you forgot this piece in the black plate of Bambulab project? BLACK - LARGE WHEEL SUPPORT - 4x, and in the Candy Wagon the 4 units of Green-White wheels multicolor?

RudydG

Wow!! just curious, i see that the layer height for the Bambu files are 0.12? Is this necessary?

Alberto

I print them in A1 mini at 0.16 and great results too, 0.12 is more fine of course but good results too at 0.16 👍🏻

Chris Felix

I'm just finishing up the Frosty countdown so this is great. One question, in the Bambu files the large and small wheels are all just single color. Was the intention for the end user to paint them as needed ?

PA1 MAKER

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate! 😊

PA1 MAKER

Hello Justin! No the wheels are not turning. Because of the links on the locomotive, the size of the parts etc, it would be really difficult to make them turn with the same amount of details.

PA1 MAKER

Wow! Thank you very much my friend! I really appreciate! 😊

PA1 MAKER

Thanks a lot my friend! Nice to read that this morning! Thanks to my amazing wife, who is waaaaaay better than me for photo staging!!! 😅😊

PA1 MAKER

Merci énormément mon ami! J'apprécie beaucoup! 😊

PA1 MAKER

Thanks a lot my friend for the kind words, but especially for the suggestion regarding this amazing model! I am glad i was able to create your vision of this little gem! 😊

PA1 MAKER

Thank you very much Deborah! And thanks a lot for all the kind words you left on other posts. I don't always have the time to answer them all, but i read each one of them and your good words are really appreciated!!! Thanks again! 😊😊

PA1 MAKER

Hi Alberto! Thank you, i'm glad you like it! 😊 For the large wheel supports, you are right, i forgot them on the BBL project plate. I will add them in a few minutes. But for the multicolor wheels, it was intended this way, i only upload one set on the BBL project for the Candy Wagon and the Wagon, but i have wrote on the plate to print both, green and red ones. But i realize this morning it may be a bit confusing. so i will make the change today and put both plates. 😉 Thanks for notifying me!

PA1 MAKER

Hi Rudy! Its my favorite layer height, that's the only reason! 😉 Because many of my designs have curved surfaces, it prefer 0.12mm because it gives better results. And if you slice the parts with both layer heights (0.12 and 0.16) you will see that the amount of time is a bit different but not that much, so i prefer using 0.12 at all time to have a nice surface finish on all parts. But feel free to change those settings as much as you want.

PA1 MAKER

Hello my friend! I just verified the BBL project for the locomotive, and the wheels (large and small ones) are painted in the 3mf file. They are the ones on the two last plates. The ones that are completely white, on the second plate, are the ones for the multipart option and they match with the green/red stripes on the other plates. Its for those who doesnt have an AMS. If you wanna print them with the ams, use the ones on the two last plates. 🙂

RudydG

I guess a second Bambu printer is needed ;-) These designs are so beautiful.

Chris Felix

Ahh gotcha thanks, yeah I saw the "BAMBULAB MULTICOLOR LARGE WHEEL ASSEMBLY" stl in the bambu folder and wasn't sure. Thanks for another awesome model !

Lewist09

Awesome, thank you Pascal.

Alberto

Oh, you are right with the lollypops, it's enough to print again changing the red roll for a green roll, I didn't figure it :)

Roderval

PASCAL: You definitely need to add a few other different candy wagons, a people wagon, and rails

Adam Jones

This is an amazing addition to the Christmas collection!! You're hard work is really on display with this creation!! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!!!

Daryl Jennings

This may be my favorite file yet. My wife was asking how you made the smoke coming out of the train though, your setups for pictures are great!!

Karen Persyn

Love this, just 1 question, the file named white-green cady wagon icing, i'm guessing we will need to do a colour change on this?

Charlie Kent

Holy crap! This is so freaking cool! I am so going to start this next weekend....right after my surgery...I'll have nothing but time on my hands! =)

Kelley G

we are missing the back axles for the bigger wheels

Maryann Foster

I can't find the yellow botton at the front of the Locomotive

Maryann Foster

Nevermind, its because it was clear not yellow Found it!!

Enrique Riri

Fantastic work! Thanks . Working with Bambu Lab X1C, it's a real pleasure for me.

Nat McHugh

Download the file again they are there now

Galloway

Fantastic! I love it.

Kelley G

got a question can we get the sign as a blank so we can add our own name to it ???

Darknynja

Once again, I commend you on your photography skills and your choice in colors for your models. I'm sure I've said it a hundred times but that's still not enough. Not only are you an awesome designer of models but you're a great photographer and color coordinator too. 🙌👍😁

John Pia

This is incredible. I subscribed because of this model, and after seeing all your other work, I'll be here for a long time.

Kiara Ortiz Navarro

if anyone has already made this and can tell me the dimensions that would be awesome thanks!

Jen

This has got to be the coolest thing I've seen so far! I am in LOVE!!! I love the instructions and love that you've got it formatted for the Bambu! I can't wait to give this one a try!

Nicholas Hagstrom

I am a new subscriber and first off I want to say your work is amazing! I do have a question though, how do you know at what layer to add the color change? I am not seeing it in the instructions

Rebecca McNally

What are the two white frosting stripes for in the locomotive?

Alberto

Hi! I finish print the locomotive, their dimensions are: 22cm long, 14cm tall, 10cm width

Derek Hackett

So it’s safe to say all three train pieces will be a little over 2ft in length?

Jen

I printed it over the weekend and it’s beautiful! On the locomotive, can you check the green and beige engine pieces and see if they are colored for AMS piece? On the one I downloaded, it was a solid green. I recolored it on my end, but want to make sure it was colored right for other users. It came out beautiful and I’m excited to add it to my decorations!

Kelly Irizarry

Hello everyone. Has anyone had issues printing the Ginger bread train and the pieces not fitting? It's actually happened to many with several of the files and I'm wondering I'm doing something wrong. it's been incredibly frustrating to say the least. For example, I printed the locomotive cabin and the cut out area that fits into the locomotive base doesn't fit the cabin. I'm not sure if it's a slicer issue or why this is happening. Even when printing things at 100% the corresponding pieces don't fit. Any information as to what it might be is appreciated.

Alberto

I always activate a XY contour compensation of -0.03 and have perfect fit without have to put a lot of force, try this perhaps ?

Kelly Irizarry

Are you referring to the horizontal expansion? I’m still learning about 3D printing. Thank you for your reply.

M Rod

@Kelly Irizarry, did you verify the scale was reset to the original size? Maybe give that a shot. I am about to print this one tonight, I'll see if I have any issues.

Chris Felix

I'm assembling the wagon (not the candy one) today and I think the brown doors are wrong on the 3mf files. The door knobs are on the left hand side of the door yet the pictures show it on the right hand side and it's driving me crazy.

Kelly Irizarry

I'm resetting my slicers settings and hopefully that solves the issue. Thank you for your suggestion.

Escrich

I love this model, looks simply awesome once printed :D

M Anderson

This is not a complaint more a suggestion. I love all your models you are very talented. For the train any reason you did not do a trim and door for the engine car. I would have loved that, rather than looking inside to an open area.

Cynthia

did you click on the 3 . on the ripper right corner of the file folder? it gives you an option to download. it takes some time to create a zip and download. then on your browser bar there will be a down arrow. that’s your download link. click o. it to open the folder and unzip the files.

Ricardo Costa

Anyone tried to resize to smaller? I'm thinking to print at 50%, could I have problems fitting the pieces?

PA1 MAKER

Hello Ricardo! Take the smallest part of the assembly, something thin or small (like the cow catcher icing or the wheel links) and scale them down to the size you want. If they print perfectly, the rest should be ok. You can also make a test with one of the larger elements, like the cabin or the body of a wagon, to see if you'll have enough walls. No need to print those, just have a look at the preview. Usually, a piece like the locomotive cabin should be (at normal size) 1.2mm, 1.6 or 2mm thick. With a 1.6 or 2mm regular thickness, the scaled thickness will be 0.8 or 1mm thick. Which will give you 2 walls at least. That should be good. But a thickness of 1.2 at the regular scale may give you some problems once scaled down, because you'll have only 1 wall... Again, it may print correctly, but make sure in the preview that everything seems fine. ;)

Dan Poel

Love the Train!! Printed it, it came out amazing

Ethan O'Brien

Working on this now and absolutely love it. Finding your designs has been the the best!!!

PA1 MAKER

Thank you so much Ethan!!! Glad you like it! :)

Luis Colon

how do i go about making the polar express sign without ams at what layers do i swap

Carolynn Fritz

What kind of glue are you all using?

Fe

ARKA - KRAFTPROTZ 3D PRINTING (PLA,ABS,PETG, TPU), viscous, 50g 6,99€ on Amazon

Tal Star

You have some great models. Looking forward to building them!

Joel Hagle

Just downloaded this and there is not a .3mf project available. Will you be creating one, or will have to use the .stl files?

Joel Hagle

Sorry, I found them. My fault.

Alain Real

I love this project , but I'm having a couple of issues , is there somewhere i can send you some pic to see if you guys can help me , but the way I'm new in this , so is probably me doing something wrong . Thanks

BadActor

What issues are you having?

BadActor

Start with green then place a pause at layer 5, swap to white for the rest.

Ryan Chaffey

In the UK what is the closest beige filliment people have found to match this project ??

Greg Sinasac

I have the same issue / observation. I was visualizing the locomotive put together in my head and realized the beige was missing from those pieces.

Greg Sinasac

Loving this project. Is there a way to easily edit the text on the Polar Express sign? I'd love to personalize for the person I'm giving this to.

Joel Hagle

I printed this and now all my kids want one!

Jake Corbett

I am a little confused on something. In the picture instructions, it shows the front light as yellow in color but in the 3mf file and the STL files, it is labeled as clear. Should it be printed in yellow or clear? Thank you.

Karl

I don’t even see any headlight file…

Ginger Moyles

ONE QUESTION - Locomotive has 2 little white 'cabin icing strips' where do they go?

Francois LECLERC

Hello, Is it possible to put a first name instead of Love Joy Peace? if so how should I proceed I am a beginner, thank you

Stefano Gallarini

I would like to ask to the ones who built the Locomotive 🚂 where to glue the white cabin side icing strips... they are not mentioned in the instructions and I cannot see them in the pictures. If someone has built it in the past, where did he glued the strips? Please help. Thanks! 🙏

PA1 MAKER

Hi Stefano Those parts were removed from the original design. I just forgot to remove them from the stl files. They were intended to be placed just below the Polar Express sign, on the small angled wall. But placing them perfectly centered without an indentation was almost impossible, and the orientation of the print didnt allow me to make that indentation without creating a tricky overhang, so they were discarded from the design.

Stefano Gallarini

I imagined that was a piece to glue under the sign. The name of the part is clear. I glued them where you intended to. Once the sign is in the right position, it is not hard to glue the "snow" just below the angle under it. I did it. Thanks! 🙏

Alison Lloyd

I’ve only joined Patreon today and paid for your membership, but I can’t seem to find the drop box or files for bambulabs? I seem to be going in circles

Bryan Kirby

For those doing the color change for the tracks, I chose the red licorice, waht height are you changing filament. I tried it at 5.0 which was too low.

Tina Richardson

I dont see the 3MF files in the folder, am I missing something?

ARTiMADE GIFTS

Once you unzip the file you downloaded and go to "STL Files" folder, click on each part of the set and it has another folder within it that says "Bambulab Files"

Dustin Fournier

get invalid values errors when opening in bambu studio

Dustin Fournier

raft first layer expansion -1 not in range and tree support wall count -1 not in range

Cassie Werachowski

so im guessing the cabin door addition does not work with the red trim on the door? i cant get it to fit. already had the red pieces glued on.

DaveTheBuskerUK

I have made 5 of these for this year. 4 for family and I'm donating one to a charity for pan disability football that our lads go to. I sent the photos of the train to them and they are over the moon. I'm going to swap out the Polar Express signage with a personalised one for the charity and they plan to auction it off this week. Thank you for these amazing designs.

Big Al

Love this set, but I'm getting seriously bad print on tbe underside of the cab and body of the caboose, the overhang on the bottom is really rough, even though I have lowered the speeds its still grim, any tips?

Claude Grevé

Wich Filament are you printing an at wich Speed?

Big Al

Im using Sunlu Burley Wood (light brown not actual wood), I have slowed down on overhangs to 10% (30mm/s) and still having issues. I did improve it by adding support, but its still far from perfect. So far I have done the loco, caboose and now the candy truck, all the same, the slopes under each on the main body have this horrid bumps.

NoCoBirds

This is adorable, and I can’t wait to print it!

Martin Allen

can we post pics of our builds please if so how?

K and P

I've been waiting and keeping a eye out for the extra train cars before but no luck and with now finding out you have a patreon I have them now. I'm so happy.😊

Chris West

We have several train cars that have been released late last year. There might be more later this year.
