Hello! Me again!!! :) So here's my first attempt at a book nook! Although i am pretty happy with it, i have failed some parts of the design.

First, because of the arch at the top, the project is not what i want regarding the filament consumption. Most of the other parts are very small and doesnt require lot of filament, but the brick section is consumming a deceiving 300g approximately. I'm sorry for that, i will work on that for the next ones. I will also try to make an update eventualy for this one, with less material needed.

Second; I wasnt able to fit the thing on a Mini bed... To be an acceptable size for a book nook, it needs to be this big, and making the large parts in two or three parts was difficult without having a joint or a crack somewhere in the bricks... I will have to work on this too. Sorry for that my friends.

Third: Its ALMOST support free... But with the counterbores at the top of the brick section, some supports are needed. That's the only part requiring supports, all the other parts are support free.

I am actually experiencing with sequential bridging (Thanks to Maker Muse) for holes like that, and if everything goes right, i will use this method in the future for counterbores and similar sections to make them totally support free.

Now the cool stuff!!!

This book nook is super easy to light up!

You will need two battery operated tealights. That's it!!! Two cavities are located at the top, in which you can insert a tealight to light up the whole scene. With a flickering effect, it is simply amazing!

You can modify the scene! Some parts have a specific place, with indentations in the floor to glue them in place. But all the other parts can be position anywhere in the scene, so you can make your own custom book nook, just the way you want it!

Like my other projects, it can be printed on any regular printer. For the multicolor parts, it can be done with a simple color change at height. If you are not familiar with color change at height, send me a private message, and i will help you with pleasure! A complete Bambulab project file is included (3mf) with settings and colors already set.

As usual, follow the instructions carefully, and make some dry fit checks (without glue) at every step.

I will try to make a list of the used filament in the next days, but i forgot to keep track of the filament used while working on the project. Will see what i can do with that.

In any case, consider this as a first trial and if you have any kind of questions, feel free to send me a private message. Suggestions regarding the build will be welcome too.

Keep printing my friends!!! Pascal

Beautiful!!!!

Andrew Smith

Starts to tear up :). This awesomeness is what I knew you would do! I love it!!!!

Josh

Omg dude! You have outdone yourself!!!

Chris West

Great work. Love the first item in this series. I look forward to everything else you come out with.

Wes Fields

Yes! Please keep these and the fairy houses coming; the wife loves everything! You, sir, are one amazing designer. Keep up the excellent work.

Kenai

Duuuuuude!!! You are AMAZING!! Totally blown away by all the details you’ve managed to put in such a tiny space!!

Josh

I just noticed your mention of "300g" of filament... When I pop this in Bambu Studio with your defaults (0.16mm Optimal preset, etc..) for my X1C it estimates ~20h and ~652g.. Wowza! Dropping the one object down to .20mm layer height, 10% infill and 2 walls it says 370g (10h). Do you know how strong this object needs to be?

Brianna Patton

I would also love to know which settings you used to get it down to 300g for the main shell. I can get 344 at 3 walls, 8% lightning infill..

Debra Tokgoz

AGAIN, awesome! I wasn't sure what you would come up with and this is perfect.

Josh

I just spent a day and a half printing a millennium falcon (that only looks OK)…. I would hate to waste even more filament when not needed 😂

Nicki Holm

Amazing job love your design ❤️

I’m just glad to hear you are considering filament usage. Some of that will be the nature of making something with an interior that’s not just infill, but it is a barrier to making many of these so I appreciate the effort. You could consider some designs that are more flat and upfront (like a storefront) or the ones that look like a dragon is crawling out of the books. It’s nice to have some of each type for different uses.

TheArtifactWorkshop

A store front could still have display windows with objects, and all windows could light up- but won’t need finished volume beyond the first inch or two. Behind this can either be an open top thin wall “bucket” for hidden storage or even just a some click to assemble bits to make more of a “wireframe.”

TheArtifactWorkshop

Frankenstein is a great first choice, but I’m so surprised it wasn’t fairy related ! I will cross my fingers you pick a fantasy themed one next. (We could use a dragon or castle 😅

Frédéric Lallement

as you say :) lots of tiny parts to print .... good bed adhesion required ;)

Frédéric Lallement

maybe on purpose to jump a bit aside of the past fairy & christmass houses :)

Adam Bowen

Love this. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Adam Jones

Fabulous creation!!! My wife loves building book nooks for our family, so this will be an instant hit!!! Thanks for taking the time to create it and share with us!!!

Alberto

Very nice!!! Please a book nook of lord of the rings in the future :)

Mark Kane

This is awesome. So much detail. Would love to see a sci-fi themed one like Star Wars or Trek. Of course Harry Potter would be nice too!

I started this today but the Body/Arch bit says it is taking 652g filament. This is way more than the 300g you mentioned above. I opened it as a 3mf file so all the settings were transferred in. Just wondering why there would be such a huge difference (I don't mind, I love the design, Im just hoping I am not doing anything wrong).

Matthew Hardy

Same here. I've just re-sliced with 3 walls and 10% Lighting infill and it's coming in at 323g... I'll se how it goes!

Greeneyes

I bet mine is taking way longer than yours too, was 20 hours when I started but I was on my way out the door and I had someone waiting for me and wanted to set it off so just went with the 20 hours… Luckily I have another printer that Im just finishing something off on.

PA1 MAKER

Hey friends! Its my error, i forgot to mentionned in the description that i used different settings for the brick section. In fact, Matthew is pretty close to what i used. 3 walls for a strong print, and 15-20% of lightning infill. With the lightning infill, you will have infill under the arch (because the part is upside down) and just a few infill at the top. This should give you a print between 300 and 350g. Sorry for that my friends! I will correct the description.

PA1 MAKER

Thanks a lot Andrew, glad you like it! 😊

PA1 MAKER

Wow, thanks a lot Wes! 😊😊

PA1 MAKER

Wow, Thank you Denise!!!!! 😊😊

Greeneyes

Hmmm, Im 27% in on the original settings, 14 hours to go, do you think I should cancel the print and reprint with your settings or just let it go now…

But it should be between the values mentionned above. Sorry for that my friends! I will correct the description.

Thank you very much Adam! Glad you like it! 😊😊

Great first Book Nook ! Love the details ! Can't wait to see the other themes !!

Tobias Habich

Very nice, I'm excited to see what comes next. I made a few small changes and saved materials. Additionally, Frankenstein and his creature were installed and the tank was filled with the 2 glass bodies.

Rhonda Maurer

Can you tell me what the "Dark Brown White Black Table looks like? Does it have all three colors? Thanks so much.

Mattis Matters and More

Just going to try printing this... The height of the Brick piece is 212.4mm... max height of my MK3S states max height of 210... online some say its good to 217cm... so we will see how it goes!.. I did have to change my printer max height to 213mm just a note maybe for future nooks... :)

Mattis Matters and More

Actually it fits on its back... so instead of waiting 32 hours to see... I figured I would just print it that way... :)

Mattis Matters and More

This printed so very cool!!! I would suggest 10% infill for the brick piece it may take the 32 hrs down a bit with 15% infill... Other suggestions for pieces in this nook would be an open book for on the desk (It looks too neat...lol): maybe a lab coat hanging by the door and definitely a black cat to be sleeping in the corner...lol... how do I send you pictures?

Mattis Matters and More

I had to print with a different orientation (Prusa MK3S+)... On its back... so I needed some support for the Tealight holes... 10% fill with adaptive cubic fill and 2 walls... 353g filament... and 27hrs

Timothy Joseph

Ì finished mine this week and it looks great on the bookshelf!

Sommer Slagle

I have a question is it possible to add a clear piece to the front door, so you can open and shut it but still see inside?

Jeff Herrmann

Absolutely awesome! May I pester you for the cord for Bambo? This is just perfect for my son! Thank you for such amazing work!!!

Gary Rice

I use translucent filament shaped to the size of the door or window, to allow light to come through. I have never down a clear window, but I guess I would use a sheet of the clear plastic that they use for vacuum machine. Good Luck

Cynthia Arnold

I LOVE making book nooks and the miniature houses. I love your prints!! Thank you!!
