Patreon supporter John Johnson wanted me to take an 8th grade graduation test from 1895 and share how I did by turning it into a little educational video, so here it is.

This video was definitely a bit different than my usual kind of videos. What do you think about it? I have another more vlog-like type video planned for the summer about Dwight Eisenhower.

Thanks to John for the video suggestion, and thanks to all of you for your continued support!

Taking an 8th Grade Graduation Test from 1895

Mr. Beat takes an 8th grade graduation test from 1895. Well, supposedly. This test has been floating around the internet for years, but was it really an 8th grade graduation test? #history #socialstudies #geography Thanks to John Johnson, my Patreon supporter who suggested this video topic. These stories were essentially saying we are all so dumb today that and they were so smart back then, right? The logic also being that my grandparents, who stopped going to school after 8th grade, actually got more schooling than these darn kids today do. Darn kids. But hold on...let’s take a look at this test. How difficult WAS it?

Fun thinking about how things have changed in over 100 years. I wonder how much today's 8th grade "intelligence" is based on life experience and exposure to vast amounts of information--like we have with today's internet and media exposure...

Get ready for the influx of extra credit comments. You even have the smooth funk music playing in the background. :)

Unfortunately, most tests today also don't do a very good job testing "intelligence," probably because we all disagree about what "intelligence" means. :)
