I will add that I talked to multiple Congressional staffers "off the record" after I did these livestreams. Unfortunately I can't share what they told me. What I can say is that I am EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in the current way we petition the federal government. We'll see if I have more success getting responses back from U.S. Representatives.

Before watching, see if you can guess which Senator sent me a video response. :)

Thank you for your continued support!

I called every U.S. Senator in the country. Here were the responses I got.

Of the 101 offices I called, 53 didn’t pick up, so I left 53 voicemails. In every single voicemail I left, I briefly mentioned the bill, issue, or policy I wanted the Senator to know about, as well as my contact information. Oh yeah, I also tried to remember to thank them for their service. Sucking up never hurts, after all. 48 staffers DID answer. At first, I told staffers that they’re call was being recorded and they didn’t like that too much. So I stopped telling them after that. By the way, the District of Columbia has a “one-party consent” law, which means it’s not a crime to record a phone call as long as one party knows.

You got a video response from Senator Cory Booker! Neat!

Naterade

I was not able to catch your live streaming of calling every United States senators. However, I did watch some of it. Can’t say I was shocked by the lack of responses or just being confined to speaking to staffers. I get that they are busy, but I think most of them are either afraid of looking bad or don’t care to speak to someone with opposing views. I think weekly, biweekly, hell, I’ll even take just monthly town halls should be mandated for every congressional person in every congressional district they represent. Wishful thinking, I know. I am glad you got a response from senator Booker and senator Merkley! Also, kudos for being professional and respectful towards, I wish there was more of that in society.

Naterade

Respectful to every person you spoke with*

Matt Beat

Thank you so much. Yeah, if I actually talked to Mitch McConnell, it may have been a bit more difficult for me to be nice and professional. 😏 I really like your idea of a mandated townhall. They must face the public directly.

Naterade

McConnell would be a struggle for me as well. Also, it is crazy that there is only one millennial in the whole senate! (Jon Ossoff of Georgia) McConnell has been a senator longer than Ossoff has been alive!

Matt Beat

Several Senators have been there longer than he has been alive, and one of them is running for re-election this November. :sigh:

Michael Madden

I contacted my senator, Bob Casey, about 2 different issues and he responded separately to both by email. And they both seemed like personalized messages. Perhaps it was because you weren’t a constituent to some of the senators 🤔. Regardless, it’s pretty bad that the Kansas senators didn’t reply to you.

Alex Gorell

I wonder if not being a constituent of theirs makes them less likely to respond. I have contacted Senator Schumer like 6 times over the years and i've gotten a response every time one of them being phone call. It's really cool that Sen. Booker actually made a video response I honestly wouldn't have expected that at all. I also would have a hard time with being friendly to McConnell or in fact several senators at this point.

Matt Beat

I agree with all your points. I will say that I didn't tell them all that I wasn't a constituent...only some of them knew.

Gael Guerard

I remember listening to the first session you did 3 months ago. I was out of work at the time I was able to listen to most of it. I have to admit I'm impressed by that kind of determination! This follow-up video was great! So cool that you heard back from Sen. Booker! Keep up the wonderful work! I'm surprised you don't get demotivated after that and such little response. I'm surprised that you plan to do all the congressmen next. Looking forward to hearing the results. Good job Matt! 👍

Matt Beat

Well words of encouragement like yours certainly helps. I also am a little crazy so that helps as well. 😄

Devin Canada

I despise Booker. but this made me despise him a hair less and his response helped me see why people vote for him.

Matt Beat

lol fair enough. Yeah there are things about him I don't like, but now I'm biased to think he's a swell guy
