But what about before that? How many Presidents have run for a third term? Well, technically four. 80 years after George Washington first set the two-term precedent, Ulysses Grant was the first to BREAK that tradition…first by considering running for a third term in the election of 1876 and then later ACTUALLY running for a third term in the election of 1880. He didn’t even get nominated, however. Next up was Theodore Roosevelt, who ran for a third term in the crazy election of 1912. He lost. Next was Woodrow Wilson, who wanted a third term but his own political party wouldn’t let him run. And Harry Truman, the last President eligible to run for a third term, was highly unpopular at the time and dropped out of the race early. That said, Teddy Roosevelt and Truman only served PARTIAL first terms due to Presidents dying in office, so their third runs were understandable. #shorts #mrbeat #presidents

Interesting Topic. Thank you!

I understand the tradition of two terms and then stand down, however, a question could be asked if presidents should stand down after two terms. I'd be in favor of say get your two terms sit out at least one term and then run again. I know that's another topic for another time. Another educational short!

I believe Resyndicated did a video on this topic too. I find it interesting that Harry Truman was the only exception to the 22nd Amendment

Thank goodness for the 22nd amendment! If only there were such limits on Congress!
