Year of the Snake 🐍✨ New illustration preview + struggles !! (Patreon)

Hello Patrons,

Here's this week's new illustration !
When I started this painting last week, I decided to make it big. So I bought a bloc of paper size A2 (I have never painted on such a big size before !). I spent 4 days on it before realizing I would never be happy with it - so I started over on the usual size I use : A3.

I struggled so much with this painting ! Both of them were tricky, I thought painting it again on a smaller size would be easier but it wasn't 🙃 I hate to waste time, especially when there's a deadline, but I'm glad I'm finally done with it (almost, I still have to fix the face, but I'll do it later).

Look at the difference between these two sizes (A2 is twice bigger than A3) :

One of the struggles for this painting were the scales - I didn't know how to design it !
This morning I painted the scales and realized way too late that I drew them going in the wrong direction 🫡
I wanted to show you the mistake I did (left) and how I fixed it (right). I re painted over it, the brown scales were too dark to be covered by the orange paint so I added some white to the paint. It worked pretty well ! 

I then re painted the gradients over the "white" areas and drew the scales going in the other direction (when I tell you I wasted so much time with this painting !!).

 This is definitely not how I pictured this painting in my head but it's the best I could do ! Not a big fan of it, maybe I spent too much time on it and need to not see it for a while 😪

UPDATE (yes I am still working on it 🫡 trying to figure out how to improve this painting) :
What if ?... 👀 to match the Celestial Dragon from last year !
